What the heck happened to the stuffed breadsticks!?!
Used to love these things -- so soft, jammed with pepperoni and dripping with melted cheese...woof they were good. Â We would have them delivered to our office for lunch. Â The sticks from the Kilroys on Kirkwood may still be good (at least they were five or six months ago when I had 'em last) but these from the Sports Bar? Â Dry bread with a few pepperoni and not a single drip of melted cheese. Â And don't forget the two dips -- bland "nacho" cheese (like the giant tubs marked "2 for $5" at Kroger) and worse, a thin taste-free marinara with big chunks of tomato that made dipping impossible anyway. Â I paid $7 for a carryout order of this?!? Â No, actually I paid $28 for four orders...and everyone else was just as disappointed as I was. Â Won't be doing that again.
went there the other night for two dollar tuesdays, there was about 6 people at the bar and it took the bartender 20 minuets to get to us. When im at the bar i usually dont tip till the end of it all(not going to give you a dollar for a 2 dollar drink), Â after the third drink the bartender refused to serve me and my buddy because we hadnt tipped yet. long story short he yelled at us then had the mexican bus boy escort us out of the place.
All i know is im glad i didnt tip him at all and am going to stick with the housebar were the drinks are always cheap and the bartender is never menstruating.
A place you're going to have to check out and see if you love it or hate it. Â Its great after 12, but does get crowded which is crazy because this place is absolutely enormous. Â The outdoor patio is great in the summer and if you sit outside during happy hour you'll be blown away by how cheap everything is. Â Don't get anything besides their breadsticks and maybe their wings. Â The quintessential college bar everyone usually ends up at.
Review Source:This review is based off of the food and drinks. This establishment is rather large and was told this is the spot for sports. We came here to watch the tigers play the Oakland A's.
The drinks were modestly price. The food was subpar though and gross. Â I ordered a bbq chicken sandwich. It didn't taste like bbq. It tasted like warm chewy chicken with really sweet ketchup. Food lacked seasoning. I was the bar food i ordered would be palatable and at least edible. It was not. I wasn't obviously expecting the worlds best mf sandwich. This however was disgusting. Luckily the ambiance made up for the bad food and the beers in me made me more generous than i should be on star ratings.
My friend ordered fried mozzerella cheese sticks. Those looked decent and tasty.
The establishment is rather large and seemed like this would be a great time during the summer. They offer a really big outdoor area to drink and this spot seems to really draw the locals.
HEY BRO, DID U JUST RUSH? HECK YA, TIME TO BRO POCALYSPE IT UP! In all seriousness, the food is pretty tasty, but the amount of Axe body spray in the air is enough to bring in the local governemnt food air pollution control. If you are looking to grind up on your girl for hours in public, this is your place. If not, check the Killroys on Kirkwood or the bevy of other great local bars in Btown.
Review Source:This place has 2 faces.
It can be completely empty in the summers and before 9 PM... Â You can get some cheap bar food, which actually not bad. Â I HIGHLY recommend the stuffed pepperoni breadsticks. Â The are out of this world.
And then there's after 9 PM during the school year. Â Especially weekends. Â This is the largest bar in the state of Indiana. Â It can fill up. Â There is an outdoors area, regular bar, LARGE bar with big screens, back room with another bar, upstairs with another bar and dance floor, and then there's a large padio past the dance floor.
I like it, but you gotta know what you are getting into depending on the time/ date.
PS- GREAT drink specials during the midweek. Â $3 32 oz Long Islands!
OMG I'm surprised no one reviewed Kilroys! Unlike the other location on kirkwood (which is a frat/sorority bar), this one is a mix. It can be somewhat of a meat market and tends to get a bit packed in the dead of night around 1:30-2am ish. Unlike most other bars out there, this one charges a cover which ranges from $3-10. The food is pretty average for bar food. Not many drink specials. The upstairs part is where you want to be when you get here. It's not as stuffy as down stairs and they have a dance floor upstairs as well. Good times.
Review Source:I was in town to staff my company's week long conference at the University of Indiana and ended up here on Thursday and Friday night. Â Here's the breakdown:
On the first night, my co-workers and I brought over a bunch of clients in their forties and fifties to show them a good time. Â Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the hot spot we were hoping for. Â There was no music, no people, just lots of big TVs showing sports and unbearably sweet strawberry daiquiris that could easily been confused with flavor ice from 1988 doused in cheap rum. (One Star).
The second time I came back with a co-worker because there was no other place downtown serving food after 11 PM in the middle of July. Â Reluctantly, we sat down at the empty bar, confused as to how this place makes any money. Â The bartender was friendly (I think you could file it under Midwestern charm?) and let us order off the regular menu rather than the sparse bar menu. Â And since there was little competition for the bartender's attention, our drinks were quickly refilled. (Three Stars).
To summarize: I have no idea if this place gets it poppin' during the school year, but it's not a bad choice if you just want to unwind and stick to beer and simple mixed drinks.
Get their early, otherwise there is an insane line to get in. Â Bar is huge and can cater to the likes of many. Â Downstairs usually there is a band playing, people in booths and by the bar, talking, etc. Â Upstairs, is all dark and blacklit and booty songs galore. Â Hang out bar downstairs, nasty club upstairs. Â And they have great outdoor seating both upstairs and downstairs.
Review Source:Kilroy's Sports Bar (or just Sports to students and locals) is what it is: a classic college bar. Â On any given night, it will generally be either empty or crowded, rarely an in-between. Â Things typically get started late at Sports; it can stay dead until 1am or later some nights. Â Wednesdays are the best day to go, with half-off everything (food, drinks, everything). Â Sundays are another big day with an all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet during the NFL season. Â It's also one of the best places in Bloomington to dance.
But know what you're getting into. Â It's not quiet, it's not even particularly memorable. Â But Sports does "college" bar well.
