Stopped in tonight for a beer and the fish and chips, the beer was okay. The fish and chips however... I can't really review the fish and chips because I never got them. Ordered with others in my group, the waiter while delivering the order (30 minutes later) asked if we needed anything else. I reminded him about the fish and chips. He said they were coming right up, 30 minutes later (now a full hour since I ordered) I went to ask about the fish and chips and was told a to-go order was holding things up but they'd be done shortly. After another 20 minutes I paid for my beer, canceled the fish and chips and left. I won't be back.

Extremely disappointed.   First time we have gone here. Went on a Friday night at about 6:15 before the evening rush.  Got a great seat on the patio.  After 50 minutes we did not have any food.

What was even more frustrating is that the hostess/manager/owner?  would come out on the patio and chat with her friends and bring them beer, sit down at the table and talk.  Why was it frustrating?  Her friends arrived 40 minutes after us and I would think that the manager or owner would be aware that two tables away a family of 4 with 2 young kids (who had behaved heroically up to that point) had been sitting for 40 minutes without a crumb.

Our server apologize when I told him we were leaving because we couldn't wait anymore.  They did not charge us for our three drinks (2 ice teas, and a coke).

If you want a beer good place.  Food service.....well I guess I can't comment because they couldn't manage to get any type of food to our table even after 50 minutes.

    Great food, great beer!
Service is sometimes spotty...we have been in where we were the only folks there and the bar tender/waitress acted like we were interrupting her "time" - not mean, just couldn't care less that we were there...

Decided to stop by Kilt Pub for the first time last night on my way home from work to catch the Sharks game.  I've lived in the neighborhood for a while now, but have never stopped in due to the negative reviews.  Decided to say screw it, and see for myself...

I was glad that I did.  The service was great, the draught beer selection was pretty good, and I ordered the Caprese burger which was awesome.  Service was friendly and timely, food was fresh, beer was good, and the Sharks won.

Good night, and I'll definitely be back.

I really want this place to be great, as it's the only pub in the neighborhood.  The beer selection is outstanding and the food decent, but the customer service is abysmal, particularly given the large number of staff working there.  We had to flag down a server every time we wanted another beer.  We felt ignored.  The Kilt needs to step it up.

I will be going back to this place to talk to the owner the new owner is the most unappreciative bitch. She should not be in the food service business whatsoever. She does not care about her customers. I'm really sorry that the old owner John (think that was his name) sold this place. the old owner was amazing super nice love his customer's loves his job. it's just in my nature that I think I should go talk to the new owner cause they probably have no clue about Yelp and all the other customers are talking poorly about this restaurant. this is a great place to go have a wonderful beer and food. but if you treat your customers like she does it will fail

My wife and I love the Irish pub vibe but can not always get downtown to our favorite place. Imagine our delight when the Kilt opened in our neighborhood. sadly we have been twice both times the service was not great. In fact the second time we sat tat the low bar for 30 minutes without so much a wink from any of the staff so we left. They have the decor down and the food smelled good!

We went here for lunch on  a Saturday.

I found the recent reviews to be a little harsh.  Our waitress (possibly manager) was a tall redhead with a thick accent.  She was extremely friendly and personable.  I can see how some might perceive her to be a micro-manager.

All three of us got the fish and chips.  I was not disappointed.  They tasted great!  The only thing is that the fries - although delicious - had a ridiculous amount of salt on them... so much that my legs are still retaining water 2 days later.

The people I went with said they go there pretty often and the place is usually packed on a Thursday - Saturday night.  A good sign in my opinion.  Only downfall for one friend is that she's been waiting to get a Stella (and it's on the menu) and they still don't have it a few weeks later!

The beer selection does seem quite amazing and the waitress required us to taste a replacement beer for the Stella before we actually ordered it.  I thought that was very proactive on her behalf.

I can't wait to go back and try the Shepard's Pie (they have a vegetarian pie too) and the scotch eggs.  I hear the burgers are also amazeballs!  It was a very difficult decision to make on what to order.  I will be back someday when I'm in the area again.

I'm not a really big beer fan, but if you are this a great place too go. They have a really good list of beers and wine as well. They had a small band there that was really talented. I fell in love with the band they had a folk /blugrass sound that was very original and different from what you usually get from the pubs around  here.  The bartender was really friendly as well. Only thing I do have to complain  is  we arrived there at 9:45 pm and  wanted to order some food but they were closing early because it was slow. If that's the case they should not have specific time when they close. On the door it directly says they close at midnight we arrived about 3 hours before the time.  So if you get there around 9 and expecting to get food, don't have your hopes up! But the drinks are very well worth it.

So we ended up leaving to weinelli pizza right next door; well worth it!

Great place to have a good beer. The service is not the best wait staff don't know the menu and how food is prepared. Menu is to complex for a pub style.

I liked "johns" kilt pub. I want to like the new owner kilt pub. I want to support a little local arden arcade business. but the new woman owner makes that impossible. She is so rude to the paying customers its almost humorous. The place now seems to be a gathering place for  Milosevic's Army while the very few paying customers wait it out for service.   Our waiter was so nice...and then....he disappeared...we waited and waited and waited...while she chatted the other waiters relaxed behind the bar chatting it up....finally went to chase down our bill....as she sat perched and glowering.  My husband said well that was an improvement last time she was just plain mean to us at least this time she simply ignored us. Im with the others who have commented in the post john era....not going back.

Been there twice and enjoyed it.  Very friendly and helpful staff who know their beer.  Fish and Chips up to Brit standards.  Will come back. It only gets better.  They now offer beer tasting flights.  Four five ounce beers for only six bucks.  Update!  Their bottle beer collection is off the hook!  You are well served to come here. A great experience.

I've been going to kilt pub for a while now. The food is a little better and the staff is always good. However, I'm not a fan of the new owner, I agree with the other review. She needs to just let her staff handle things because she doesn't really know the true meaning of customer service.

I have been a loyal customer of the Kilt for two years now.  John did a great job getting the place going.  He has sold the business and the new ownership has made some changes that have the place going forward with one exception... customer appreciation.
I once witness the owner and his wife come in and ask for two local patrons to move to the handicap bar so they could use the table they were occupying for dinner. That I thought was rather unappreciative  but I though this was an isolated event.  I have learned otherwise.

A buddy and I were there on Monday to watch the BSC Championship game. We ordered a couple rounds of drinks, appetizers and dinner over the course of several hours. At 8 pm, during the 4th quarter, all the televisions were switched to watch "The Bachelor" at the direct order of, the owners wife!!! We and several other football fans in the pub asked for some compromise and they refused with the exception of the TV on the wall over our heads.  The place was packed so we could not move anywhere.  We paid our bill and left. :(

I do not hold and animosity to the wait staff, who was very apologetic. Several of them said..."Sorry, it was out of their hands". I witnessed everything go down so I can't fault them.

I do fault the new owners who now a second time have not put their patrons interests first. I'm hoping some change can occur because I really like this place.  However, if they want their pub to be an extension of their household command and control then I will take my money elsewhere.

Have enjoyed going to The Kilt. Good food and nice servers. But the new owner was so inconsiderate and rude the last time we were there, I doubt we will go back. We were having a family dinner (6)  celebrating my birthday. We were the only customers in the side dining room, still eating, and she has an employee come in and start mopping the floor directly behind us. With foul smelling cleaning solution. When I mentioned to her that it smelled very strong, she replied, "it is only Pine Sol". She had the employee continue to mop the room. The owner left and we never saw her again. Three of us could not finish our food and we left soon after
. Our server was wonderful and very apologetic. The New Owner was clueless....

Had Hop Stoopid on draft, which was awesome. Waited over an hour for bangers and mash, which was not.

I'll be back, but for drinks only. My bangers were good, but an hour+ wait for them sucked.

I loved the Kilt Club, until my last visit this evening ... it is obvious that owner has changed.  Prices are higher, the portions were half the size ... not bad food, but $51.00 for two fish and chips, one glass of house wine and a beer ... certainly not worth it.  It used to be a fun pub at reasonable prices ... not anymore.

I like this place - I only showed up for a couple of beers, but its low key and the staff is really nice. They have a good selection of beer and are reasonably priced. A plus is they're walking distance from my in-laws so I can have my beers and trot home for the night.

I used to LOVE this place! The staff was great (most of the good ones are gone now) and the food was amazing (notice how I said WAS?). One of the first people the new owners let go was Chef Noah. The new menu is horrible. Food that doesn't make sense in a Scottish Pub...food that used to be phenomenal is now barely so-so. I still come here on Mondays for Trivia, but that might not last much longer because of how the Quiz Masters have been treated by the new owners. They are making very short work out of taking a thriving business and running it into the ground. Very disappointing.

I really want to like this place.  But I've given it three chances at different times (evenings and weekends) over the course of the past year or so and have been disappointed by the seeming lack of concern by the people working there over their customers.  It's really really odd. And I am a friendly and patient customer who even finds Zelda's service within the realm of acceptability. . .  It seems like the staff just kind of zones out in there -- I don't know how else to describe it.  Leaning back against the wall with their arms folded.  Would it kill you to walk around the place a bit and ask people if they need anything?

Nice beers on tap (and that's what gets them more than one star), but that's no longer a unique detail these days.  Seriously: first impressions count.  Greet people immediately as they come in and ask them if they'd like a menu.  If the staff is having problems noticing people coming in the door, put one of those sensors in that make a chime when you trip the beam.  If customers are supposed to order at the bar, TELL THEM.  Put a sign on the tables telling them this.  Don't expect people to guess.

I'm a really low maintenance customer, and I understand that people can have bad days.  I don't take the time to write a bad review unless somebody deserves it.  Repeatedly.  I'm beginning to think that the only people who have good experiences here either know somebody working there or have just gotten lucky.

Trivia on Monday was fun!  Lots of people and apparently a lot of regulars.  Unfortunately the prizes were not the most generous I've seen at bar trivias (35% off your tab for 1st place, 2nd and 3rd get a dollar store item).  They do give up to 8 hints per game if you buy that many beers.

Kilt Pub has a decent selection of beer on tap... we got pitchers of Smithwick's.  I'm not sure how much our pitcher was, but a pint of cider was 6 bucks.  They've got darts in the smaller room, too.  I'd definitely get a group together for trivia again.

I've eaten here three times and ordered the same thing on every visit. I think that should speak volumes.

The "specials" board doesn't actually change, and the first panini - The Highlander - is roast beef, blue cheese and chipotle aioli, which has varied in spiciness.  There can only be one..... (pause for laughter)....  outcome to this dish: Happy mouth. Happy tummy.

No hard liquor and I couldn't bring myself to drink the non-distilled vodka bloody mary, but there's a good selection of beers and ciders and a few wines.

The space is pretty small, but there's a back room that people can use and two dart boards, which find amateurs and pros throwing sharp objects at them twice a month on Tuesdays. Check fliers for details.

Kilt Pub is a great little bar. Not too big, not too small, always has a great crowd and I LOVE the Scottish owner... he is a card! Love their Wednesday night pint night; they feature a beer each week with collectible glass, and discount on refills.

They've got a great menu of standard pub food, but I'm always astounded by the photos of culinary creations they post on their facebook page... shepard's pie, steaks, fish, pastas, big lush salads. The food's so pretty it looks like it came from the Grange or some other high-end restaurant. I must remember to go there for dinner! :)

I stopped in last week for my second visit to Kilt pub and had an even better experience than my first visit.

I ordered a Lagunita's IPA and my husband and I split the mac and cheese with peas, bacon and tomatoes in it and a roast beef sandwich. Everything was so good! I am a huge mac and cheese fan and Kilt Pub's mac and cheese is right up there with the best of them. The roast beef sandwich was piled high with meat and toppings and the bread was perfectly toasted. I loved it so much that I kind of regretted splitting it with my husband. Oh well, I guess that means I will have to return for another!

Awesome service, yummy food and great beer!

Just made my return visit here last week. I wanted to revisit their beer selection and  try the haggis on infamous haggis Wednesday's. If you don't know what haggis is it's better that you stay in the dark, but I can tell you it consists of meats you may not feed your dog and it's considered a delicacy in Scotland. I didn't have the guts to order it myself but my friend Jason did and I stole a taste while he was outside having a smoke. It actually didn't look nearly as bad as you'd think it would. The haggis was only a small portion of the appetizer-sized plate that also had some sort of sweet slaw and mashed potatoes. However you fancy it up, it's still gross. But props to the Kilt Pub for keeping it real!

I had the pleasure of visiting Kilt Pub again last night for dinner with a friend.  I was greeted with the same great service as my last visit.  And received a PERFECTLY poured pint of Guinness.  I really wish that dinner would have lived up to the rest of my experience.  Sadly, the burger I ordered was sub par at best.  While it was cooked to my requested temperature, there was an unpleasant char (carbon taste from high flames) on the outside of the burger.  The patty itself was also under seasoned.  That said, the fries were outstanding.  Very well seasoned and perfectly done.  Nice and crispy.

Because I really enjoy my time here, I'm going to go back again and give the food another shot.  I'll ask the server for his/her recommendation and go from there.  I love this place and want to bump it's rating back up after a good meal!

    This place was....interesting.

    Pros:
    - Scottish theme and men in kilts! Awesomeness!!!!
    - No liquor, only beer!
-Outside patio for drinking beer and smoking.
-Decent selection of ales on draft.

    Cons:
-$4.745 for a pint. Typical for foreign beer but still pricey.
    -Food was aweful!!!

I was seriously suprised by the food. It looked so promising. Jessica T and I ordered the "Guiness Garlic Mushrooms." Mmmm, I thought. Garlic and Guiness sauteed mushrooms! Yummy! WRONG!

A plate arrived with little, spongy mushrooms, in muddy looking  mushroom water with a hint of Guinness. No garlic, no salt, no pepper. Bland. To the max.

Then the little toasts with tomato and melted cheese came out. It was basically a watm version of the modern, americanized bruschetta. YOu know, the typical and unthoughful crostini with tomato and motzerella?. Perhaps something other than the appetizers was tatsy, but why would I want to spend double the money on an entree when the apps were soo boring? It makes me feel as if I would be spending a lot of money for a bigger portion of bland food.

I may come back, for the beer and the cute boys on the patio. If I find myself thirsty and in the area.

For being in a strip mall sandwiched between a pizza joint, and a dive bar, this is a cool spot! It seems somewhat small, but they still managed to get in a couple dart boards, some tv's, and a little outdoor patio. They don't have a full bar, but they have wine, and more than make up for the lack of whiskey with the beer selection!

They have all the beers on tap that you'd expect to find in place named Kilt Pub, and also rotate a few others in.

Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Belhaven (Stout and ale), Old Speckled Hen, Cider (I forget which one), and a few more that I can't recall!

If for some reason something on tap isn't calling you, they have a great selection of cans/bottles (ie Chimay, Boddingtons, Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, etc)!

They have standard pub food, but whoever is in the kitchen has clearly had some culinary training, as they seem to have a daily special and turn out some awesome dishes!

    Slainte!

My husband and I ate here the other night.  We live just up the street and had stopped in for drinks before, but not dinner.  We both had the Kilt Burger, shared an order of garlic fries, a Bellhaven Stout, and a blackberry cider (you decide who had which...).

We are definitely going back!  The burgers were good, but the fries, oh my Lord...They were my idea of fried, potatoe-y, garlicky, perfection!!  They are steak fries, which initially I didn't think was a good thing.  In my experience, steak fries are soft and squishy - not the way I like mine.  These, however, were amazingly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - add some garlic and salt and..DING-DING we have a winner!

The service was, well, 'meh', but I can get past that.  We had fun just hanging out watching the world go by.

Since my first review of Kilt Pub I have had the fortune of visiting my favorite work-ajacent watering hole many many times. And ya know what? I love it here!

The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable of the food and beer that they serve. John, the owner, is a stand up Scotsman and can be found pouring beers and running food out to tables on any given night. Ask one of the Kilted bartenders to describe a beer for you and they'll paint you a verbal pidcture of the brew in question so accurately that you can almost taste it before you taste it.

The beer...oh the beer. Racer-5, Affligem, Lagunitas, seasonal specials and, of course, Bass, Guiness, Harp and a whole slew of other British Pub appropriates. A dozen or so on tap and almost twice that many by the bottle. The selection is generally in a minor state of flux as they try on new selections and part ways with the old.

The food has come a long way since these guys and gals started serving it up. All the Pub Grub is well represented: Fish & Chips, Shepard's Pie, Scotch Egg and Bangers & Mash to name a few. They have a fantastic burger and drop daily specials several times a week which are often focused on seasonal and regionally available ingredients.

At the Kilt Pub, the atmosphere is chill. Local residents are commonplace. If you visit enough you will get to know a lot of the regulars. John has started several daily and nightly special such as Trivia Night on Mondays, Lassie's Night on Wednesday, lunch specials and daily Happy Hour discounts. TVs can be found on at least four walls and they have a dart board in the dining room. Plenty to keep one occupied should the food and drink not suffice.

I hope this review does the mighty KP justice as I want nothing more than to keep their revenue stream a-flowin' so I can continue to savor all that this, my favorite pub in the Sacramento area, has to offer!

Someone at the Kilt Pub is a very talented cook.  Kilt Pub's rib eye is nearly perfect; so tender you can cut it with a butter knife if you want to.  Wife had a Salmon dinner which she said they cooked correctly.

They also make a really good banger sandwich.

They also have 4 or 5 choices of IPA which can't be beat.

The best part of the place is it is in the neighborhood.

If you live in Arden-Arcade and you like pub fare and beer, please support this place.  We would like to keep it in business but they seem to be busy which is a good sign.

This is my neighborhood watering hole for sure.  I have a saying to friends and my dad when I want a beer..."feelin' kilty?"  and this is where we go.  They have Guinness on draft and pour it correctly!

The menu is standard pub-type fare, nothing fancy but everything is quality and fresh.  So far I have had the burgers, bangers and mash and the fish and chips and all have been delicious and the fries are always straight-from-the-fryer HOT which is important to me.  If I am going to indulge in fries, they better be hot.

What is super-cool is that the owner John is a soccer enthusiast and plays all the major matches on the TVs which delights my hubby.  He even opened the place early and served an incredible breakfast special for the Barcelona/Manchester United game.

Ordering at the bar instead of having table service is kind of a pain. We have found that once the bar has your credit card and you've ordered your first drink, servers are easily flagged down for refills and food orders.

Ok finally ate here two nights in a row.  The owner, John, is always there and is very friendly and seems to mingle with everyone.  He's great!!  Food is really good too!  Grilled cheese, fried mushrooms, onion rings (red onions), salad, but there cheese sticks are to die for (only if you like blue cheese).
Lots of beer options on tap and they have a sampler so you can do a taste test.
    ABSOLUTELY recommend it.

I am definitely going back to this little gem.

Customer service - Awesome! They were very polite with quick service.
Bathrooms - Very clean! This is a huge bonus in my book.
Crowd - Everyone there was laid back and just enjoying their time there.

It is a pub and those tend to be more family oriented. If you wanted to bring your kids there for dinner you could, but you might feel a little out of place.

There is a lot of seating which I like. You wont be standing shoulder to shoulder which is a good thing.

One day while driving by, we saw that a new place had opened up in the old Cheffrey's.  Impulsively, we pulled into the parking lot and drove by slowly, as they do in gangland.  As our car cruised  by the Kilt Pub, through the lit windows  we saw people playing darts and drinking,  so we thought it was a bar only. Since we had our kid with us, we didn't stop.  We discovered later that they did, indeed, serve food, so last night  we decided to give it a go, still sans kid.

As you walk in, you see signs everywhere telling you to find a seat and order at the bar. Ever compliant, we did as we were told.  We found a seat in a booth and then went to the bar.  The bar is only about five seats long and there were no menus around.  There was a board that had specials listed and so I went up, asked for menus and ordered my beer: Stone IPA.  Any place that serves Stone is automatically going to get some of my business, no matter what the food is like.  The bekilted young server came back with my IPAs and brought us menus.

The menus are good, decent Scottish (I presume) pub fare.  My husband ordered the Shepherd's Pie, and I ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich with beer au jus and instead of fries, I had a salad.  We left our credit card, they gave us a number, and we returned to our seats.

We sipped our excellent beers as I pondered the mystery of what is under the kilt.

The food came out, and as I had suspected, the roast beef was sliced, packaged roast beef, not roasted on site and the amount was a bit skimpy.  However, it was still good, and the onions on the sandwich were caramelized in beer and very tasty.  It also came with a nice gooey cheese and was served on a soft, grilled steak roll.  The au jus was sweet, beery and beefy.  The salad was fresh and crisp with little chunks of blue cheese in it.    My husband's shepherds pie was satisfying - mounded with mashed potatoes, filled with peas, with a nice Worcestershire flavor in the ground beef.  The melted square of cheese on top was a nice, plebeian, touch.

The place wasn't full but certainly wasn't empty.  There was a nice crowd of youngish people there, drinking great beer and playing games.  The atmosphere of the pub is very friendly and something this neighborhood needs.

There are two things I would do if it was my pub.  I'd make the bar longer so that there was more room for people to sit there, and I'd start table service.  However, they are a new business and maybe they'll get there some day.

We will definitely go back, and we'll bring the kid too.  I think even Groundskeeper Willie might like it.

A new local Scottish themed bar right in my neighborhood actually managed by a Scot!!! I was pretty pumped when he thanked us for coming in and I heard his accent--made me proud!

And for a new bar, it was actually decently full for a Tuesday night. Definitely the classy winner in comparison to Longshot next door. New paint, new tables, a couple flat screen TVs and a projector and dart board in the other room, this bar is much much bigger than I expected it to be. Plus, beers on tap (they have a decent selection too) are 4.50 each which is a steal I think. And if they don't have a beer on tap that you like, they have an even bigger selection of beer in bottles, including Andre if you are feeling like being extra classy in getting the cheapest bottle of champagne out there, and seeing that as an option made me feel at home ha :-) They also have wine, but no hard alcohol in case that is something you are looking for. AND their servers wear kilts!! I mean how cool is that. Definitely no false advertising on the name of this bar!!

I didn't get to try any of their food, but everyone eating in there did look pretty happy, but the one thing that did catch my eye were their GIANT beer battered onion rings. Man did those look good. So next time, I'll be grabbing a beer and an order of those ha

Tasty food and a good selection of beers.  Would be nice to have a server, ordering at the bar is annoying and time consuming, but they do bring the food out to you.

They are still a little rough around the edges,  but I expect they will improve.  Its great to see a small pub style venue in Carmichael, lets see if we can help keep them in business!

Some of these reviews seem to be off base. Service, food, and beer selection are all above par. And some people don't think it stays true to an actual pub, but news flash idiots, we are NOT in the British Isles.

I could go for a few more beers on tap and a little more decor, but these are easily fixable in due time. It has a nice patio and is probably the best place to grab a brew in the area. This rating may be closer to a three, but by comparison to other establishments in the area, this place is definitely a four rating.

As I walked into this pub, I was a little unsure of what to do. It said order from the bar, but there was a server... When I looked at the server and asked "what am I supposed to do?", she gave me an odd look, and continued walking away from me.

No one acknowledged us for about 5 minutes, and there were not enough menus for each of us.

This place is small, and under furnished. It does not feel like a pub. Some of the construction details and trimmings are not complete. Sitting in the booths (especially with me being so short) emulated sitting very upright on the edge of a seat (my feet couldn't reach the floor) within a roller coaster.

I ordered the garlic fries as a starter ($5), as well as the bangers and mash ($10). I got a tiny little 3x5 dish of garlic fries that were VERY under seasoned. There were maybe a total of 6 chunky fries. Followed by gluey mashed potatoes, runny gravy, undercooked peas, and bangers with a pretty heavy consistency.

In addition, no one came to check on our food, or refill our drinks.

I left a big C- made out of peas in the mashed potatoes. Yah, that was me.

With eateries/bars like The Clubhouse, Longshot,  Winellies, and Willies, this place would have to have KILLER service and KILLER food; neither of which I experienced.

    Good luck.
