This by far is my favorite food Ever! I have been eating here for almost 20 years :) First lest start with the kind people who own and run this place. My son is 16 and they have always remembered him even if it had been a month or so since we stopped by. I even moved out of town for a year and they remembered me when I got back in town.. It was the first place I went to eat :) The eggrolls are the very best I ever had the fish sauce is perfect.. I have tried over the years to make it at home but never have I had such good Vietnamese sauce! The marinated soft shell crab deep fried for a appetizer is a must have!! It is so good that my mouth is watering as I'm typing this. The noodle bowls are a winner.. I love the grilled lemongrass pork... It is so good :) Sometimes my son and I just stop in and get an order of eggrolls each and that is a full meal with all the stuff to wrap them up! Please don't be fooled by all the new pho places popping up everywhere.. This place is a must try.. I know you will love it as much as I do!!!

I can not express how much I love this locally owned and operated Gem!
I've been steadily coming to Kim Ba for almost 20 years now. The food has been consistently AMAZING, the portions are large, the prices are low and the service is always good.

My favorite thing to Order is the Tu Quy which is a giant sampler platter that features Kim Ba's Vietnamese egg rolls, beef wrapped shrimp, stuffed grape leaves and the sauteed beef. It's enough to feed three people and gives patrons the opportunity to sample four delicious flavorful menu items that  they can wrap with fresh veggies to create personalized masterpieces. It's also the perfect starter for large groups or as a dinner for first timers who have never tried Vietnamese cuisine before!

The food speaks for itself! You won't be disappointed!

Delicious food, reasonable prices and friendly service, in a small out-of-the-way location. A Denver classic.

I really like Kim Ba!  We had the Fried Catfish (Ca Tre Chien) which was wonderful - you get the entire fish fileted and a very nicely spiced sauce. We also had a good chicken salad (mostly cabbage) that was very lightly dressed.

Lunch service was fast and efficient!  And the restaurant was busy.

    Lunch prices are a bargain!

    Go!

BAD BAD Customer service.. if you don't want to work there you shouldn't be.. why would you take a phone call and be so rude? they should have someone much nicer and polite answering their phone calls.. Bad service ruins your appetite for food.. TSK TSK...

Found my new lunch spot! Kim Ba has everything I look for in a lunch during the work week. It's affordable, quick, nice service, and it's really good. Like most reviews get the 14/15 combo. That's honestly all I've ever had here, and it's probably all I ever will order.  It is fantastic. The egg rolls are out of this world. I love that they chop them up into bite size pieces and place them on top of a hefty amount of rice noodles. I like to allow mine to get a bit soggy from the broth.  You can order beef or pork for your meat in the combo and I always get pork. The flavors are out of this world. The textures are amazing. The temperature is always just right.  It's just perfection!

I usually enjoy a warm Vietnamese coffee and from time to time will split an appetizer if I'm with friends. The crab rangoons are the best I've ever had. You will no longer be able to order them from anywhere else because compared to Kim Ba, every other place doesn't come close. They are full of crab and cream cheese and are served piping hot.

I do want to explore the menu more but when you find a dish at a place that you just love it's very hard to stray.

I love my part of town! So eclectic with many many restaurants to try. This was our first time eating Vietnamese food and from all of the reviews I thought that I would give Kim Ba a try. I am a 'Trying to Be' Vegan and Kim Ba seemed to have many options. Was there late on a Wednesday night and there was only one group sat in the booth. Maybe this place is a little bit busier on the weekend? I opted for the Dau Hu Xa Ot (Tofu sautéed with lemongrass and chili pepper) and my boyfriend chose Dau Hu Xao Tuong Hot (Sautéed tofu in hot and spicy coconut and whole bean sauce). We didn't know what to expect but we were both very pleasantly surprised. The flavors of the sauces were amazing! I didn't have a problem  with the portions, totally gave me enough food for lunch the next day although, my boyfriend cannot say the same thing. He enjoyed it that much. Sadly wasn't able to try the egg rolls that everyone is raving about. Maybe on my non-vegan day I can try them out.

How does a Viet Namese restaurant in an nondescript strip mall with a tucked away door stay in business for over 20 years?

In this case, using a grill.  Most Vietnamese  places in the States grill, and the uninspired, bland dishes can easily discourage the uninitiated.

Kim Ba offers the opposite - flavorful, skillfully prepared grilled dishes that are wonderful.  We recently had an opportunity to return after several years, and left wondering why we hadn't been back sooner.

Every dish we tried was great - the THIT NUONG RAU SONG BANH TRANG (marinated sliced pork, served with lettuce and aromatics like a vietnamese eggroll) is amazing.  Even the scallops were good.

This is the kind of place you wish a friend would tell you about so you could be in on it.  Consider me that friend.

So I came here based on the reviews that Kim Ba has received from so many people.  As I walked into the place it was totally not what I expected.  The room was very small and I was dumb founded by the 1970's decor with wood paneling and gawdy art work.  I'm thinking to myself, the food must be great, because the decor is lousy.  I ordered the pork with egg rolls over noodles and my wife ordered the scallops.  The food was right on point and the pork had a nice grill flavor to it.  Nothing that blows you away, but it was exactly as you expect to me.  The scallops were surprisingly good and buttery.  Maybe a little too buttery for some, but for a dive restaurant, you normally wouldn't expect to get scallops that good.  I know I've tried cooking scallops and it never seems to work for me.  All in all, not sure that Kim Ba is considerably different from any other Vietnamese restaurant, but it also seems to very reliable based on my experience.

This place was pretty tasty.  I got the eggrolls and they were by far the highlight!  They came out piping hot and I had to let them cool down first.  All the fixings were super fresh!

I also got a noodle bowl with beef and the beef was fantastic.  It was a ton of food though and ended up taking home half my meal and half the egg rolls and they were still good the next day.  Yum, definitely would recommend!

YUMMY. I hate that I didn't come across this place just a little bit sooner. It is tucked away in this little spot that I would have never even guessed. I went in and asked the waiter to recommend some things for me and he was spot on. I had a grilled pork chop meal that could have fed a family of four! I sat there and stuffed my face. It was sick how much I enjoyed eating there!

Ok, I will admit it. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to certain ethnic foods, Vietnamese being one of them. Kim Ba impressed the snob.

I just moved here from Houston, the Vietnamese food capitol of the United States. In fact, it has more Pho places than any other city in the USA--a huge influx of Vietnamese came to Houston after Katrina.

After my first visit, this place matches anything I have tried in Houston. Specifically, the egg rolls are unlike anything I have had. Made to order and tasty, they are clearly the star. Like many others, I had an appetizer portion to split with my wife, as well as the beef, egg roll noodle combo. My wife got the tofu and veggies over crispy noodles. I ate them too (oink). Nothing was bad, everything was faultless.

The order was to go, so I can't comment on the service other than the food came out Quickly and the cashier area (apart from the dining room) smelled of incense.

    I will be back.

The Vietnamese style egg rolls are the best!! They even have a vegetarian egg roll option that is very tasty. Wrap it in the lettuce leaves with noodles, bean sprouts, cucumber, and fresh herbs and it is just heavenly. I have tried a couple of other dishes on their menu and thought they were just okay. Its the egg rolls that does it for me.

This was the first Vietnamese restaurant I ever tried and since then I can not find any other that compares, and I have searched far and wide!!

The restaurant is inconspicuously nestled in a strip mall, but don't let the modest exterior fool you the food is incredible. As for interior, there are several tables and booths for diners and often, especially during lunch time, many customers order take out.

Now on to the food...I would recommend the 14/15 combo with beef and all of the vegetables, the beef is extremely tender and the flavor of the egg rolls is AMAZING! The best egg rolls I have ever tried. The Pho is also an excellent choice. One of the my favorite dishes are the Spring Rolls with beef, you receive all the ingredients to make the spring rolls and make them yourself with several dipping sauces. Its a fun and delicious experience!

The day you never thought could happen...

I've finally stumbled upon something that was subpar.

Four of us came here on a friday night to grabbed some dinner, the place wasn't packed at all which was great. We picked a booth and was quickly greeted. Service was great as usual.

Feeling a bit 'adventurous', and having been here earlier in the day for  lunch, I decided to forgo the #14/#15 combo and ordered dishes from their menu for a family style dinner.

We started with the Tu Quy ($17) appetizer which consist of a lot of delicious meats, eggrolls, in a 'do it yourself' spring roll style. To my surprise, there was no rice wrappers, instead it's more of a DIY lettuce roll. Somewhat disappointing.

For the main course, we had.

    1. Ca Tre Chien (Fried Catfish) $12 - Not bad at all, the batter was quite good and it wasn't too thick

    2. Vit Xao Xa Ot (Duck in lemongrass & chili) $11 - This was a major disappointment and it was the one dish I had picked. Craving duck and the description sounded good, I thought this dish would have been perfect for my duck craving. The duck was sliced way too thin and there wasn't enough of it, there lemongrass was chopped too thick and the sauce was a little to salty. My friend said he even bit into a small pebbled when he mistakenly ate the lemongrass instead of the duck.

    3. Bo Xao Xa Ot (Beef in lemongrass & chili) $11 - Unbeknownst to us, we had mistakenly ordered two of the same dish with only different meats. This was our fault and not Kim Ba, but like the Duck plate, this one had the same issues.

3 stars seems really harsh since I love this place so much but the Tu Quy and the Vit Xao Xa Ot was really disappointing.

probably a 3 1/2 star would be a fair rating. I'm still going back here for the eggrolls. Nom Nom Nom

Ohhhh my.  I think I've definitely missed out on great Vietnamese food until I ventured into Kim Ba!

Their eggrolls = perfectly cooked and seasoned. And I love wrapping them up in lettuce with other veggies (kind of makes me feel better about stuffing my face with grease).

Combination 14&15 = this is the dish I usually get at Vietnamese restaurants and the one at Kim Ba surpassed all others.  The beef was perfect - in taste and amount. I got to have more of the eggrolls. I loved the sauce you put into the noodle bowl. Just everything - MM~

Some other foods that I got to sample = #5 - this I must order the next time I am here. I loveddddd it; the pho - also very flavorful and delicious!

This is the best Vietnamese Cuisine in town!

I personally recommend the Goi Cuon (spring rolls), Com Suon (pork chops), Scallops Xa Ot (lemon butter scallops), the coconut curry mussels, and the Ca Tim Xao Tuong HOT (this is eggplant in a spicy coconut curry).

BUT: the best thing available on the menu in my mind is the combination 14 & 15, a fantastic and large, rice noodle bowl, with an egg-roll AND pork or beef.

The story behind the restaurant, and the namesake, is too sisters named Kim and Ba, who started the business together.  One of the sons is also heavily involved, and very friendly.  They also have another, "grill" location off Santa Fe near Florida Ave.

Yum! We LOVE the egg rolls and the #33 chicken with cashews (minus onions). When we get over to Aurora, my husband and I get one order of each and a couple of sweetened coffees and leave pleasantly full and very satisfied. Great deal for a perfect meal.

Get your protein fix here. Thank goodness for good food at Parker and Havana. It's been nearly 4 years since I was last here, but I always think of this restaurant when I'm out there. That's the sort of lasting impression it makes.

I decided to go easy, quick, and inexpensive this day. Seared pork flavored with lemongrass on a bed of rice noodles layered with crushed peanuts and sprouts. The service was fast and came with a bowl of chili sauce. The pork was amazing, so good. I need to go here more often.

One small negative: my spoon stank. Funkiest thing, but didn't ruin my meal

If you enjoy Vietnamese or maybe want to try something new, check out this place. Sure the dining area is an onset for claustrophobia but the service is fast and friendly, and the grub is amazing so it all makes up for it. I recommend trying the combination 14 & 15 and let the party in your mouth begin!

Little did I know, lunch at Kim Ba would be the beginning of a 4 day asian bender. I'm  a once a week asian guy normally, but this was a great lunch. They have the best egg rolls that I have enjoyed in a long long time. If you order the egg roll appetizer it comes out with lettuce, cucumber, mint and sprouts. What a great idea!

For a main course, sadly we all had the same thing. It was a combination 14&15 which is rice noodles with pork and egg roll. I would have gone with something different just to try more flavors had I known all would follow me. Stop in and have a good affordable meal.

Decent little vietnamese place. I had pho, my bfriend had the tofu and veg on crispy noodles. Both were average- not great, but definitely good. Prices seem a little above average for Vietnamese- maybe $1 more per entree than some of the nearby places. Decor is basic, about 9 or 10 tables total. Very friendly service. Overall, solid B.

Determining from these other reviews, I must've came on a bad day, because I did not at all enjoy the food from Kim Ba's.

In fact, the only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the egg rolls were pretty good (yes, admittingly), but that's about it.

My friends and I shared a few dishes; pan-fried noodles with chicken, and another popular dish that I don't currently remember. I could taste the MSG in both of these and the flavor was just not appetizing. The noodles themselves were hard (not crunchy, literally, hard).

The price was also pretty expensive for what you're getting and the type of food it was.

After reading other reviews, I may consider trying it again with another dish. Unfortunately, however, my experience was not worth coming back.

I've been going to this place for years. It's very small and tucked away.  The service is friendly and fast.

Simply the best Noodle Bowls ever!  I like the Egg Roll Noodle bowl (number 14), but if you prefer meat, then go for the #15, or better yet the 14-15 combo.  I also like #30, lemongrass chicken.

Tried out Kim Ba for the first time tonight after word-of-mouth from friends as well as yelp reviews....we were not disappointed!

Tried #1 - fried egg rolls. When they first came out I thought they were delicious as-is and we tried a couple, but then our waitress very politely explained how to roll them up with lettuce,  bean sprouts, cucumber and mint. Wow did that make a difference! The mint was amazing and added a totally different flavor experience.

For entrees we both had pork prepared different ways - damn was it good! The veggies tasted so fresh and the juice it was marinated in was also very tasty.

Overall we will definitely be back - the food and the service were both top notch.

I had to choose a last meal  the other night before starting a month-long health binge (doctor's orders, woo-hoo).  I chose Kim Ba's egg rolls.

They were salty.  They were fried.  They were delicious.  And they were HOT!  Roof of mouth searing hot.  And wrapping them with plenty of cool lettuce, cilantro, mint, cucumbers and sprouts just upped the taste sensation.  Compound that with a little sauce, and wow!

I also had the chicken in ginger sauce, which was great!  I'd never had it before.  I'm pretty sure I could make that work with my new diet, but I don't think I could go to Kim Ba and not eat the egg rolls.

Why?  Why do your egg rolls have to be SO DANG GOOD, Kim Ba?

Kim Ba is...okay. Not bad, but nothing exceptional. I was a bit underwhelmed when I finally got here after all the good reviews, and the food was...meh. I got one of the house specials with pork, shrimp, and noodles and it just didn't have much taste. I did like the Vietnamese coffee, I'm glad they talked me into that. The service is very good. It is in a weird location on the backside of a shopping center.

LOVE Kim Ba!  We always get the vegetarian fried rice without egg, and sometimes the vegetarian eggrolls.  The food is all made fresh upon order, it is consistently good, and the portions are more than generous.

It is an old building, and it is tiny, but the great food and welcoming atmosphere more than make up for that.  The veggie fried rice always has perfectly cooked rice with crisply steamed vegetables.  It is our favorite place to eat fried rice.  The vegetarian eggrolls come with tons of bean sprouts, cucumbers, and MINT.   Very tasty!!

I came to Kim Ba to warm myself up with a hot steaming bowl of Vietnamese soup.  Feeling a little adventurous, I opted for the Bun Bo Hue, a fragrant, mildly spicy, blood red soup that is named after Vietnam's Central Capitol, Hue.  Typically, the dish includes elements such as pig's knuckles and congealed pig blood, but their version came with neither.  It did feature tender cuts of pork and beef to go along with delightful broth rich in lemon grass and shrimp flavor.  It also came with your standard plate of veggies, minus the shredded banana blossom I've had at other restaurants serving Bun Bo Hue.

In addition to the soup, we shared an appetizer of deep fried soft shell crab, which was fun.  Imagine eating Vietnamese eggrolls with all the fixings, but replacing the actual eggrolls with crab.  Deep fryer + batter = yum.

The space is nice and semi-elegant.  The booths are cozy and offer a bit of privacy.  The owners get brownie points for having a vestibule that prevented the cold air from invading the dining area.

I read the reviews and was pretty excited about trying a new place for Pho. Sadly, I was disappointed by the serving portions, or lack of. It was in a small bowl and didn't have the spices and ingredients that usually come at a Pho joint. But that was where I was mistaken. This restaurant is catered to white suburban folks.

I've been there since my first time and did not order the Pho, however I was very impressed with their 'Lunch Specials'. It was really good. So if down for a tamed, watered down Vietnamese. This is the place to go for sure.

Both times I went, I or my family members, were the only Asian gangsters in the joint. That should give you somewhat of an idea of who the restaurant caters too,

The egg rolls are definitely the prized item, so definitely get that. But I wouldn't go for just that.

One of my favorite restaurants.  I have been eating here since I was young and after 15+ years of coming here, I have never found a Vietnamese egg roll as delicious as Ba's (the owner), including my mom's.  I love that it's tucked away in a strip mall... that means there isn't a crazy amount of people and there is always a place to park.  My mouth is water just thinking of their food right now.

Kim Ba is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Denver if not THE best. (It ranks equal to my other favorate Vietnamese place, Da Lat). Kim Ba's menu isn't as extensive as some places, but what really makes Kim Ba shine is their wonderful sauces and grilled meats. I haven't tasted better grilled pork anywhere (although it is cut thicker so it's a bit harder to eat than places that serve it thinly sliced). I also think the peanut sauce for the spring rolls is absolutely perfect - the flavors are so balanced. The only reason I don't come here more often is its location - not as convenient for me. I highly recommend Kim Ba for lunch or dinner!!

I'm more of a Thai aficionado, but Kim Ba has me craving Vietnamese these days.

4.5 stars: This is a friendly place with a nice menu and excellent attention to detail. For example, the appetizers that come with lettuce, mint, and other fixin's include really fresh, crisp vegetables. The tofu with black bean and curry sauce is delicate and perfectly prepared. They've got Asian beers on ice, and yummy Vietnamese coffee for dessert.

If this place were on 32nd Ave in Highlands, there would be a wait for tables every weekend. After all, it's the food that matters, and their food is fantastic. The only thing keeping me from giving Kim Ba five stars is the atmosphere and location - I wish it were amped up a bit in terms of decor, I wish it had a bar area, and I wish it were closer to downtown.

Hands down, the best Vietnamese restaurant in Colorado.  The Combination Noodle bowl with pork is the way to go, also request the mint, cilantro and other herbs to make this dish more delicious.   They do have a full liquor license but I have never indulged here so I can't comment on the beverages.

The place is a little cramped and when it is cold you don't want to be near the door, but if you are looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine this is it.

Don't let the strip mall fool you, a very nice Vietnamese restaurant lies within.

I was expecting a run of the mill Pho place, and was surprised to find a proper sit down restaurant.  The menu is a little shorter than most Vietnamese places, but each item is a unique creation, not just a permutation of a couple ingredients.

The dining area is small, but cozy, rather than cramped, making for a comfortable, intimate setting ideal for date night.  The service was friendly and efficient.

This place is also a good value, with prices similar to more typical Pho...lunch can be had for $10-$12, dinner in the $15-$20 range, tax and tip include.

BTW, be sure to try the spring rolls with the peanut sauce...absolutely to die for.
