This isn't your typical fancy restaurant.

It's more of a dive bar with a fishtank partition that serves up awesome food and great drinks. The service is great, but if you are expecting fine dining, please pass.

I went with a http://restaurant.com coupon, and it was so good that I went back again. Their king crab is sublime, and if you are lucky enough for pops to be cooking up fresh artichokes, grab them cause they are great. The clam chowder was so-so, but the crab really steals the limelight. My SO also had filet mignon which was also great.

Come here for live music, a fun time, and amazing food. Bring a http://restaurant.com coupon.

King Neptune's is a fantastic dive bar with great food located in the ever eclectic town of Sunset Beach. This isn't your ordinary run-of-the-mill bar food. We are talking succulent bbq ribs with meat that falls off the bone, juicy cooked-to perfection filet mignon, fresh veggies and scrumptious steak fries. The decor is unique and quaint. The bartender was on point. It's so nice to know that there are still dive bars that haven't went all corporate and refuse to conform to the set stereotypes of today's society. King Neptune's belongs in Sunset Beach... as it's the one town that hasn't went all OC on itself. Cheers to you King Neptune's... my man and I had a great night out on the town at your establishment.

Oh lord where do I start with this review. Well lets start at the beginning eh?

When I first moved to OC (late 70's) this was a favorite of a then coworker. The then owner was a retired military officer, US Navy I believe. He had the place overly decked out with guns and various other munitions. Big ones. Really big ones. Lot's of regulars just like now, and apparently some of the same from 30 years ago. An interesting crowd of mostly friendly hard drinking folks. Then, as well as present day, mostly older.

My favorite times to visit back in the day was Halloween (incredibly wild), and St Patricks Day (epic). Kids, those were the days when it was sorta ok to drink and drive, as the cops rarely pulled anyone over. And if they did, would seldom write anyone up on a DUI.

The now legendary event was when they had a wedding ceremony for the two stuffed beavers that sat on one end of the boat hull that acted as the bar. Yeah, you may want to read that sentence again. Yep, a complete wedding ceremony with preacher, best man, and bridesmaids. As opposed to some doubters it really did happen as I was there. Ah the good ol' days.

Present day it is owned by Juan and his dad. Dad, a former chef at a now defunct local seafood joint, does the cooking, and Juan mans the bar and handles the front of the house. Juan is a master mixologist, and likes to try out his creations on the regulars, compt of course. Everyone loves Juan in Sunset Beach where he is pretty much a rock star. This used to be on my weekend bicycle circuit before old age and laziness kicked in, and Juan still remembers my drink of choice after all of these years.

The place is a true living historic icon, and all should visit at least once. Afternoons are my favorite for sports watching, but they do get some decent live bands on weekend evenings.

Don't be afraid of the exterior biker bar look, or the scruffy appearance of some of the regs. I guarantee it will be a memorable experience, and be sure to say hello to Juan for me. Just don't take him up on too many of his creations and expect to motor up PCH. This ain't the old days.
