My friend adores this place so she brought me this weekend. I had the meatloaf, both baked and fried cornbread, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, fried corn. The meatloaf had a weird flavor. The corn was too sweet. The mashed potatoes had no flavor. The mac and cheese was definitely Kraft mac and cheese which made me really sad. Cornbread was great, it was Jiffy! And finally the food wasn't even hot. I LOVE a good hole in the wall and I am all about yummy homestyle comfort foods, but not getting any of that here.

A lot of people question me, when I recommend Kountry Kitchen. But once they finally give it a chance, they always kick themselves for not rushing there sooner! The neighborhood looks a little rough, but I have never experienced any problems during my visits. The staff and fellow patrons are always friendly. The service is welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere is very homey; it's like eating at a friend's or relative's house. And the food... well, that's the best part. Hands down, the best soul food in Indy. The catfish is my favorite, but the fried chicken, baked chicken, and ribs are all delicious too. Both the fried and baked corn breads are tasty. Then there are the greens, the mac & cheese, the black-eyed peas, the mashed potatoes-- yum, yum, yum, and yum. I could continue, but shortly: it's all damn good. Please, don't let hesitations about the area (or anything else!) keep your taste buds from experiencing how wonderful Kountry Kitchen is.
