I recently hosted an event at the Kupe Restaurant and Lounge. The bartenders are friendly, the food, especially the fish and chips were outstanding and the owner is hospitable. I recommend this location for live entertainment enjoyment and a night out for some fun and good atmosphere. The place is new so be kind to the host and hostesses. If you have an event planned and no where to have it, talk to the proprietors and see how you can make it work!
I want to thank the establishment for making my event a success.
Thank you.

Service is the worst! It was freezing cold! The bartender didn't know the price or how to mix crown and ginger ale. I went  in nov. and had the best food and drink but after that it went down hill really fast. The Chef and bartender r no longer working there. The owners of Kupe do not know how to run a restaurant/ lounge/bar. In dec. I dropped in to have a drink. The bartender mind u not the same person as before had to make my drink 3x and still don't get it right! A lady there eating told me she got her meal and then asked for  a drink and was told to go to the bar and get ur own drinks. What kind of restaurant is that. Save ur money or go some where else. The owner never payed his employees that why no one is there working!

Review Source:I stumbled into the Kupe Lounge while looking for late evening food in downtown Hayward. Â The Lounge beckons as a late night hangout with an African / Caribbean theme, a tantalizing alternative to the rest of the Hayward scene. Â The place is huge, with tables scattered across the main lounge area, a DJ booth by the entrance, and a dimly illuminated, more intimate section looking out the storefront windows. Â That must be the lounge area. Â There was also an additional area in the back, which I didn't bother checking out. Â It was Saturday night, and, aside from the bar, the place was completely deserted. Â There were about ten people seated behind the bar, much as you see in the photos posted by Apryl G. Â Apparently, this is already too much business for the Kupe to handle. Â When my friend and I sat down, the bar tender took a while to acknowledge the arrival of new customers. Â She dismissed us with a quick "I'll be right back" and went back to whatever she was doing. Â Fifteen minutes later, we were still sitting empty handed.
This was almost enough time to memorize the entire menu. Â Most of it is standard bar fare with a few more exotic-sounding items. Â The "African / Caribbean Corner" featured Roasted or Whole Tilapia with spices and a vegetable soup. Â Underneath, the "African Side Orders" offered fried plantains, a cassava dish, and goat pepper soup. Â The only other ethnic dish is chick pea soup, if you can even call that ethnic. Â That's it. Â A total of six ethnic-themed menu items. Â Unfortunately, we weren't given the opportunity to place an order (of anything), so I can't comment on Kupe's culinary arts.
The laziness, slowness, and incompetence of the bartender was actually amusing to watch. Â She hovered mainly around the center of the bar, apparently assuming all the well liquors, beers, and wines are in the same place. Â They aren't. Â Occasionally, she would walk halfway to the far end of the bar, look around cluelessly, and wander back to the center. Â This routine was repeated several times. Â Of course, she stopped a few times to talk to her friends and a select group of customers that somehow deserved all of her attention while the others had zero. Â I have to say, she did quite a bit of hovering with a half-filled glass, putting on some kind of show that says "hey everyone, look how busy I am," looking for that elusive, exotic, hard-to-find second ingredient. Â Probably vodka. Â Or cranberry juice. Â Or ice. Â She wouldn't be able to find a can opener in a soup kitchen. Â I kid you not. Â And the outcome of that quarter hour? Â She served exactly three drinks to the other patrons. Â That's right. Â Five minutes for each drink.
I know what the Kupe is trying to be. Â An escape from the overpriced, rude service and teenie bopper / just-turned-21 trash up the street at the Bijou. Â An alternative to the 'must dress like a hooker or pimp' crowd across the street at the ME Lounge. Â An inexpensive drinks and eats joint with a full bar where you can hang out after (or instead of) Buffalo Bills. Â A place with an atmosphere without the (sometimes) ear-bleeding bands of the B Street Bistro.
But I'll be honest with you. Â If you want a stiff drink, dirt cheap, with an attentive bartender and a friendly, but rather interesting crowd, walk right past the Kupe and into the Steinroom Lounge......
.....which is where we ended up after leaving the Kupe and grabbing a bite to eat at Buffalo.
