Not great, not awful.  I didn't try the beer but the food was decent.  I would have liked to have had the root beer but I heard the waiter tell another table they didn't have root beer.  Bummer.  I had the Greek pita which was large and flavorful.  However, the menu indicates that the pita has tofu and there was no tofu to be found on the old girl!  I was a little disappointed as I had not eaten all day and the extra bit of protein would have been satisfying.  I enjoyed the thick and crispy chips that came with 'My Big Fat Greek Pita,' they were nicely salted and I had a fair amount of them on my plate.  My sister liked her cobb salad, especially since it came with a boatload of avocado.  The restaurant itself is spacious but nothing stands out as being specifically unique about it.  I really liked that the meus are laid out like a newspaper.  Very cool.  Service was standard, not overly friendly but there when you needed something.  I would come back to try the beer sometime and hopefully the root beer, too!

Great beer, good food, outstanding service.

The facility is a little worn but it adds to the charm.

My kids love their home made orange cream soda and root beer.

Stopped in here with my family on the trek back from Florida.  I wanted to eat something on the lighter side, so I went with the cobb salad.  I'm a huge fan of cobb salads, and I was not disappointed.  That said, a salad isn't anything special and I wouldn't judge a restaurant based on that alone.  There were several other things on the menu that I wanted to try, and I did sample some of my family's choices, and they were all quite good.

I got the oatmeal stout (which I guess doesn't match the "lighter" salad but whatever) and it was fantastic.  Most of the other beers seemed pretty hoppy, which I'm not a fan of, but I was content with the stout so no problems for me.

Service was fine.  Nothing to complain about, though nothing particularly outstanding.  The waiter did seem fairly knowledgeable about the food and beer, which is definitely nice.

It's unlikely that I'll be in the area again anytime soon, but if I am, I'd be torn between coming back here because I know it's good, and trying a new place for the adventure.

They said that first impressions are ever lasting and in most cases it's true but I am glad it didn't apply to this restaurant. My first visit wasn't nothing to talk about, neither bad or good, so I didn't come back for almost half year. My second visit was the total opposite: amazing food, great service, and even better beer!! The food was super tasty and fresh from appetizer to dessert. Also, our waiter was an expert on beer and suggested one of the best beers I have ever tasted. It was an amazing evening filled with great food and beer in a very fun ambient... If you love beer you should order a flight if you feel like trying wide variety of beer.

Today I came to this restaurant for lunch with a group of friends and was really excited to go here ever since I heard this was where we were eating. While I did enjoy myself, I will definitely say that I was expecting a lot more than what I actually experienced.

This restaurant is on Main St. in downtown Lafayette right next to Lafayette theater, which is a super cute location. Inside, the building is spacious and there is plenty of seating. It has an older look, and the decor is nice but improvements could be made.

The server we had was kind and sweet, but definitely just average. The service wasn't above and beyond, but it wasn't bad. Just normal. The food came out kind of quickly, but not super slow. To be honest, nothing really stood out to me as exceeding my expectations.

I ordered french onion soup which was on special for $4.50 and shrimp tacos which were $8.75. The soup was pretty good, it was very rich in comparison to other similar soups which I did enjoy. Definitely a treat on a cold day! The tacos were nice, but again nothing special. I will say that the prices were pretty fair considering the portion size and quality of the food.

Overall, I think this is a nice place to come with a group of friends due to its location and atmosphere.

LBC has great "bar food" ... but only sometimes.

I have eaten there 50 times, and 40 of those dining experiences were wonderful.  Unfortunately, the ball was dropped on the other occasions. let me give 2 examples.  The beer-battered chicken sandwich is generally fantastic.  it comes with agigantic piece of tender, flavorful, crispy chicken.  I have probably ordered that sandwich 10 times.  Unfortunately, the most recent occasion on which I ordered it was a disaster.  The chicken was the size of a deck of playing cards(considerably smaller than normal) and it was soggy and stale tasting.

Another occasion on which I experienced inconsistency at LBC occurred when I ordered the black n blue ceasar salad.  as with the chicken sandwich, the first 10 times i ordered it, it was great:  i received a generous portion of salad with heaps of bleu cheese and a nice thick, juicy steak on top.  sadly, the last time i ordered it i received only a handful of soggy, wilted lettuce with a tiny sprinkle of bleu cheese on top.  the steak was a miniature shriveled mess resembling beef jerky.

I should mention that the real killer is the price.  $9.50 for a burger.  $7.50 for a chicken sandwich.  $6 for soup.  $9.00 for salad.  If the food was consistently good, the prices would be justifiable, but that's not the case.

One final comment I'd like to make is in regards to the atmosphere.  LBC has changed for the worse in the past few years.  a decade ago, it had a light buzz, and felt as family-friendly as a pub can feel.  that has changed.  in the evenings LBC feels a little seedy these days.  it's a nice place to go for lunch, but i wouldnt take my grandfather there for dinner.

I don't know why I haven't reviewed LBC earlier!  This used to be one of my favorite casual date spots in Lafayette.  Excellent beers, good prices and a menu that's a notch or two above your standard bar food.

On my most recent trip, the guys I was with decided to order the flight.  The waitress suggested sharing it between to the two of them because "it's a lot of beer", but they decided to each get their own.  They left pretty tipsy because the flight includes large samples of many different beers.  It was a great way to try most of their brews.  I'd recommend ordering the flight (not sure if it was on the menu or not) if you're a first time visitor.

All in all: good food, good prices and great beer.  What else are you looking for in a local establishment?

The beer is warm, the food is mediocre, and the ceiling fans are terrible.

Beer: Their beer is served significantly warmer than standard beer temperature, which I think is gross. All of their beer is very hoppy. Typically a microbrewery will have many hoppy beers and then a few that are on the less bitter side (usually including a hefeweizen). They don't have a hefeweizen on their regular menu, and the seasonal hefe I've had is also bitter.

Food: Typically microbreweries have great food, and unique options. LBC's food is similar to a chain restaurant like Applebees, but worse.  I've had some brisket that was chewy, a chicken wrap that was nothing special, a bratwurst with really tough skin, and some spinach dip that was too spicy (despite no warning in the menu).

Fans: For some reason, they have ceiling fans blasting ALWAYS.  It makes the food get cold, blows my hair in my face, and dries out my contacts.  Not fun.

Their service has always been decent, but that's the only compliment I can give them.

This was my first stop on the way to Indy and possibly one of the reasons that I never made it to Broad Ripple Brewing because manager Kate turned me on to the Black Swan and Sun King so it was more than a wash. Three separate high ceilinged rooms surround the bar with cherry wood paneling, some nifty illustrations on the dining room walls of different types of (full) beer glasses. An indian, a waiter, a duffer, and an old timey cop wooden statues, and a couple gargoyles are placed at different points in the restaurant. Neat carved wood back bar and wooden bar with a copper surface. Kirby was behind the bar helping me out and the brewmaster (Dave, I think [of all people not to write down the name of]) talked briefly with me. Good Scotch Egg, actually a pair of them, with a mustard dipping sauce and a neat simple cole slaw featuring poblano peppers. The Oatis Brown Ale was dark and chocolaty and the Piper's Pride Scotch Ale really rich and faintly smokey. Had a very nice time and would absolutely recommend them.

This place is OK. The beer is pretty good, but not the best and a lot of times they're out of the beer I want. Besides that, the food is not very good. There's nothing there that I can say, yea that sounds good right now. Also, the atmosphere is kind of depressing on the weekend. It's pretty empty and usually an older crowd. Also, it's kind of dark. I'm not quire sure why.

We stop by sometimes to have a beer and an appetizer. But I start to get depressed if we're there too late. Also, if Chumley's is too full we'll sometimes go to Lafayette Brewing company as a backup. That tells you something. Chumley's, Black Sparrow and Kirby's are always full but Lafayette Brewing Company never is.

I just don't like this place much. I would never choose to go there; though I must admit that many of my friends love it.

The beer is average.  The fish and chips are not very good.  I must admit that every time I've gone I ordered the fish and chips since there was nothing else I wanted to eat, so perhaps other items on the menu are better.

If you are visiting the Lafayette area, you have to try Lafayette Brewing Company for lunch or dinner! The restaurant is in a beautifully restored historic building. My favorite thing to order for lunch is the Cobb Salad. It is amazingly big with delicious grilled chicken, bacon, cheese, avocados, hard boiled eggs and other yumminess. They also have good burgers, wraps, hand breaded tenderloins and other great menu items. If I am there after hours, I love the Star City stouts when they are available. If you are here on the right night. you may get to enjoy a fun evening of live music on their 2nd floor.

Ate at the Brewpub last nite and can honestly say it was horrible. Overpriced beer and food. Had a cheese crock for appetizer that must have been made from old cheese with soggy burned chips. Also had a Reuben that I spent more time picking out the grizzle and fat then I did eating it. Total for 1 chicken wrap w/fries,1diet coke,2 small beers,a horrible cheese mess, and a mystery meat Reuben $42.37 without tip. I can honestly say the wait staff were very good but this place has went to the pits. It will be a long time before I go back

Best selection of craft brews we found. They had 11 beers on tap ranging from stouts to DIPAs to blondes. The 'beer guy' came over and chit chatted with my home-brewing husband for a long time and gave him their brewing processes! Food was good and the people were very nice to my husband who asks incessant questions about craft beers! Took a growler and some useful info to go with us!

This is best described as a Goose Island or Cooper's Hawk want-to-be. Menu is limited, service is slow, management inexperienced. Lafayette should have some restaurants not patterned after frat living. Otherwise, call yourself a bar and get on with it.
    Disappointed

After a morning of flea market and antique shopping, we were famished.  Looking on our iphone for lunch options with casual fare, such as hamburger, we came across the Lafayette Brewing company.  What really cinched the decision making was that they have scotch eggs on the appetizer menu.  I have a hard time finding a restaurant that makes scotch eggs, even in Chicago where I live.  The scotch eggs did not disappoint.  They are a meal in themselves, and I wished I had stopped ordering at just the scotch eggs.

I ordered the Armenian chicken in a gyro wrap.  The whole thing was tasteless to me and a mess to eat.  I was rather disappointed in the sandwich.   The in-house made potato chips were just OK.  You know your sandwich is bland when the potato chips give them a much needed kick.  My SO ordered the hamburger and was surprisingly satisfied with it.  Most establishments won't cook your hamburger as raw as he likes, but Lafayette Brewing Company did.  The in-house pepper, steak fries were also very good.  Service was prompt, except when getting the check, but it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon so we didn't mind as much.

Great place downtown Lafayette.  Really good food and good beer.  I always get the burger with blue cheese, and it is always amazing! They have a wide variety of beers that they brew.  I personally think their beer may be on the hoppy side but none the less still good beer.  I have never been disappointed.

I had the artichoke dip for starters. Highly recommend it! Ordered med rare steak and got medium well... Good none the less. And the beers are always tasty. The Bands are a very welcome touch to those of us that want hat substance added to an otherwise already great dinner with friends or family.

Although we were in Lafayette because of undesirable circumstances, our late night dinner with the P's at this locale really helped to lift our spirits.
The beer was ok. They used a lot of cascade (type of hop) in their beers, which I am not a fan of, so I'm kinda biased against it to begin with.

But our food was excellent.  We got these little potato puffs with cheese and jalapenos inside.  I could have eaten 15 orders of them.  Bison burger was definitely the way to go  for our entree, although the pulled pork looked pretty appetizing as well.

The best part about this place was the service.  I don't know if people from Lafayette are just nicer than everyone else in the world, but they really made us feel welcome.

I'm going to say right off the bat that I like LBC.  It gets props for being the proving grounds of many a local brewer, and it hosts lots of Friends of Bob shows, and it's non-smoking by choice (as opposed to local ordinance).

The selection of house brews is generally good, if never spectacular.  The ambiance is classic woody, open and inviting, and the servers are honestly attentive to your needs.  The menu is under evolution and some things are pretty good (shrimp tacos, IMHO).  They've also installed a smoker, so things are looking up in the BBQ direction, too.

It's all basic unpretentious bar'n'grill style food, with solid, unpretentious brews to back it all up.  A fine foundation for the up & coming (I hope!) Lafayette microbrew scene.

For a brewery, the beer is average at best.  The feta spread that came in the trio of dips was the standout menu item on my recent visit.  I also enjoyed the Bavarian beer nuggets, but anything with saurkraut appeals to my taste buds.  The brisket was tough and lacked flavor, would not recommend.

My gang stopped in for a late lunch en route to Chicago, and the server gave the impression she was ready to call it a day just as we sat in her section.  We wanted to sit in the bar, but there aren't any tables big enough for a party of 6 and they wouldn't let us put two tables together.

Oh, and the carpet is horrendous.

Lafayette Brewing Company is the first brewpub we went to, and that was before we'd been introduced properly to craft beer. It will always be very dear to us and hold a special place in our hearts.

The decor is mostly wood, with very high ceilings.  The bar has bar seating, table seating and window seating, with large seating areas also in the front and bordering the brewing area (you get a VERY nice unobscured view of the brewers as they work, which is always very fun!)

I like their food, it's basic pub food with a few twists here and there.

My food needs are generally this:  No or little (or adjustable) wheat.  Lean protein.  Adjustable fats.  No deep fried stuff, but I do splurge sometimes on that front ;)

The problem is that I can't splurge here.  It's not only LBC, it happens at times at DT Kirby's, XXX family restaurant too.  But fried foods will randomly cause me massive mouth pain, to the point where eating and drinking *hurt*.  It can be from 1/2 a scotch egg.

Places that I have this issue at, I can't risk the fried foods.

I know this is a problem that probably only very few of Yelpers have, but if you have any sensitivity to deep fried foods/oils, you may want to choose your foods cautiously.

    That being said:

Beer battered fish and chips is quite good - as is their beer-be-que. =)  I adore their bisonburger, I get it without the bun and sub veggies out for the fries quite often.

Their new menu incorporates some good changes! They brought back the veggie/cheese plate (mmm...) have some pitas w/three dips that are wonderfully done, have smoked wings (which I haven't tried yet) and smoked brisket as a main entree.

Notable the last few years are the smaller portions of protein in their menu items. I understand that times get tough for restaurants, but I hope that they will be able to find a way around it. I never mind paying a fair (not cheap, but fair) price for a meat-based dish.  I do want to get a nice amount of meat on it, though.

With very few exceptions, I enjoy all of their beers =)  The ESB is very refreshing on a summer day (to my palate) and I'm always happy to dive into their Oatmeal Stout on a fall or winter day.  I'm not always the biggest fan of their IPAs, but I'm not a big hoppy-beer fan.  There's something among their flagship and special offering beers to make everyone happy =)

The second floor is occasionally open for pizza and pool/cornhole/darts - but it also serves as a music venue.  It's fairly spacious, all wood, and a great place to see local bands and bands 'just passing through'.

I look forward to many more meals and beers to come here with my husband and our friends. =)  Despite my few quibbles with the food, it's a great place to have good food and good beer!

A beautiful and large brew pub with some great beers and better food. I highly recommend getting samplers of all their beers, with a tendency towards the Scottish ale, oatmeal stout, and Tippecanoe ale. The ale was good enough that I got growler to go :)

In a party of five on a Saturday we were seated promptly and the service was super friendly. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I will only describe my beef brisket sandwich: it was piled high and delicious. I would say there was a half pound of meat. Also, the waffle fries were just right, not to greasy.

Overall, I was very pleased with our experience and would recommend to anyone, whether you drink beer or not.

My wife and I have been going to LBC for a lot of years now.  They've been through a lot of kitchen staff changes and menu changes, but in general, they've always turned out reliably good, traditional brewpub fare.

Occasionally, there's an issue with their fryer vats that causes her mouth to break out and get irritated.  It's not always, but it does happen with some regularity.  Never happens to me, but... if you're someone with occasional fryer oil irritation issues, it might happen.

Their veggie and cheese platter, recently added back to the menu, is an outstanding value, and is very tasty.

Most of their beers are very good - especially Oatis Brown and Piper's Pride.  And it's always nice to look through the windows into the brewing area and see where the beer is born!

Great place, and a true Lafayette institution.  You should definitely visit if you're in the area!

Here's the scenario: you're on I-65 somewhere between Indianapolis and Chicago and you're getting hungry. Or thirsty. You need to stop. You see that there are a lot of chain restaurant options right off the interstate in Lafayette, IN.

If this happens to you, I would highly recommend spending the additional 10 minutes of driving to visit LBC, which sits in a quaint part of historic downtown. LBC has delicious micro-brewed beer, excellent service, and a huge menu (fairly vegetarian friendly). The food itself is good, but not necessarily great.

Of course, I say all this assuming that the locals knowing what treasure this place is...

After a bad experience at Spurlock's down the street, fiance and I ended up here for dinner. He ordered the pulled pork beer-b-que and I ordered the bison burger with a Prophet's Rock Pale Ale. The service wasn't stellar, but the food more than made up for it.

Tip: if you've never had bison before, it's a much leaner meat. Make sure you order it medium rare for full flavor. Delicious.

It feels unfair for me to write a review of LBC considering only a few beers were available the day that I dropped by with some friends but --- you're a brewery. With only four beers in stock. One of which is a type that's typically brewed for people who are afraid of craft beer.  The beers we tried were good but nothing special.

I can't speak to the food because we didn't have any.  Also, I was a little bit annoyed to look at a menu with a beer special - but a beer special only for people who pay to be part of an exclusive club.  Hmmm, this beer tourist feels a little unspecial.

I'd check it out again if there was more of a selection on tap.  I love the downtown Lafayette location and would like to be back to explore the area some more.

Good place to have a nice and relatively cheap dinner. Bison burger is quite good. This is a brew pub so don't order bud lite here :-)

Portions are huge so don't worry about that. Good place to treat someone...even someone older.

The service in this place was outstanding for a pub.  I had dinner and drinks with a group of 10 and the waitress provided each of us with separate checks and was totally cool with it.

The beers were good, everyone at the table seemed to enjoy theirs.

The food was OK.  Nothing special, nothing terrible either.  I had the bison burger, it was a good size, but just your average bison burger.

This venue almost needs two different reviews...one for the beer and one for the food.

I'll start with the beer.  It is truly marvelous, hand crafted beer.  Be careful though as it can really make your head spin if you are used to Bud Light.  The Prophet's Rock Pale Ale and East Side Bitter are my favorites.  My friend loves the Oatmeal Stout.  Plus, their second floor music venue is great.

Now, for the food.  Usually, a person can' t go wrong with the food at a brew pub.  Well, their food is sub-par pub food.  A few things are ok (like the wings, burgers, and homemade chips), but many things are a let down for the price range.  One time I had some sort of steak sandwich special for lunch.  There was less beef than a McD's hamburger.  Apparently, there wasn't really enough beef for the last sandwich but they "stretched it."  I was so disappointed that I actually called later in the afternoon to express my concern as I'd been a customer for many years.  The manager on duty had a $10 gift card put in my name at the bar for my next visit.  So, kudos on that.

I'd say 5 stars for the beer and 3 for the food.

Five stars for the beer.  (I've never eaten there, so read some other reviews if you want to know about their food.)

I gotta give the brewmaster at LBC some serious props.  Their beers are very assertive... no light lager at LBC.  I happen to love hoppy west coast ales, and if you do, LBC delivers.  Their common ale and eighty five are fantastic.  And as I write this there is a seasonal IPA and also a cask conditioned IPA that are sublime.

They also serve their beer a bit warmer than the average bar.  This brings out the flavor.  (Coldness tends to numb the taste buds, which is why when you're drinking shitty beer fishing or camping, hopefully it is near freezing.)  But warmer beer is a daring move considering many people would find this to be a turn off.  True beer lovers will love Lafayette Brewing Company.  Cheers!

P.S.  Wednesdays are $2.50 pint night.  And that's an Imperial pint.

About an hour north of Indiana, there's LBC with deliciously crafted microbrews. They have 5 oz samplers for $1.50. Sweet deal. Of course, we tried all 7 that they had on tap that day. The Tippecanoe Common Ale, one of their more popular ones, was seriously delicious. I even ended up taking a 6-pack home with me.

There seems to be a lot of negative reviews for the food, but we were really happy to find some great local options that were quite good. We tried a Indiana-raised bison burger and a locally-made brat with sauerkraut, both came with home-made chips and made for a decent lunch at a decent price.

The menu came on a "newsletter" that talked about the area and the brewery. It was cute and informative and not in a weird-home-made-this-is-lame kind of way. It really gave you a sense of the pride and commitment that Small Town, America is about. They did it right.

To my experience, the food at the LBC can be pretty good, however a couple of times I have experienced some poorly prepared meals, as others have mentioned. Given the amount of times that I've eaten there, I think it's a pretty good average as far as food service goes.

General favorites include the scotch eggs and cheesy potato munchers for appetizers, and the Armenian Chicken sandwich and Bison burger. (note: if you get the bison, have it prepared a little cooler than  you would normally get - the meat is so lean that it can dry up a little on more well-done orders)

I am not a beer drinker, but I'm told that the LBCs beers are pretty good as far as craft brews go, and all have a bit of "English" influence. They have a pretty good in-house rootbeer too. I think it's worth mentioning that they don't sell liquor downstairs, and the upstairs bar is only open during music events.

Like many have said here, the food is not so good.  There's a lot of 'meh' and not much that would keep you returning.  I was especially disappointed by their "Beer-B-Que sandwich," which was surprisingly flavorless.

But LBC is not about the food- it's about the beer.  They have a pretty good selection, and their homebrews range from "ok" to "excellent."  I especially liked the Prophet's Rock PA and the Piper's Pride Scottish ale.

It's also a venue, and you'll often find folk, rock, or country acts playing- I've only been there once when a band was playing and it was on accident, so I'll wait to pass judgment on that aspect.

Nice bar with good selection. We each did a flight. The great thing about a flight is that you get to try all the beer. The not-so-great-thing about a flight is that you get to try beer you wouldn't normally drink and don't care for. The flight was $14 per person and included 10 beers. My husband found several he like. I loved the Tippecanoe Common ale and the Oatmeal Stout.

We had the beer nuggets appetizer which was okay.

We chatted with several regulars and overall had a pleasant visit.

This one of the best places in the Greater Lafayette area to get local brews, and a burger.  Their onion rings are some of the best I've ever had (and i'm not an onion ring fan), and go great with every single one of their burgers or sandwiches they offer.  The armenien chicken and the brewery sliders are fantastic, and leave you full.

This place is great for a quick lunch, or dinner and brews with friends after work.

Great beer, great food, and great atmosphere!

I stopped by Lafayette Brewing Co on a trip down from Chicago to Indianapolis...we stopped in town to visit some antique malls and popped in for lunch. The pulled pork sandwich was awesome and the fish and chips looked good. Prices are low and the beer was phenomenal!

The 88 beer was great and their cask conditioned pale ale was awesome! They sell beer by the pint or in a smaller glass for tasting (which is nice for out of towners like me that want to taste a number of different varieties). I'd definitely stop in again when I'm passing through Lafayette!

After a long day unpacking, me and the s/o decided to walk down the street to Lafayette Brewing Company for some cold beer and grub.  I was impressed - they offer typical bar food selections, but they are done well.  My steak sandwich was very good, not too tough or fatty, but with good flavor and tenderness.  I do expect the beef out here to be decent at least.

The beer was fine.  Nothing mind blowing, but not as bad as some of the stuff that doesn't even deserve to be called beer I have had here, like the one that tasted like dish soap.

One plus - it was definitely a local vibe.  Didn't see any crazy college kids that evening at all (except for some of the staff).
