I've been meaning to write and update addressing the Lamplighter's long-standing Sunday Brunch. Â In truth, I would not call it a Sunday Brunch as it does not include any typical meats or vegetables you would normally eat for lunch. Â I would call it a breakfast buffet. Â It runs from 9 am to 2 pm and the cost is a very reasonable $12.95.
The lovely wife and I stopped in around 12:30 today. Â I usually try to visit buffets closer to the opening time as I want to avoid dried out food. Â Today I was pleasantly surprised.
As best I can remember the offerings included, omelets made to order, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, scrapple, pancakes, French toast, quiche, Â eggs benedict, fried potatoes, cinnamon apples, fresh fruit, and assorted toast. Â I'm sure I forgot a few.
The wife and I both agree the choices were fresh and the temperatures were appropriate. Â This is not gourmet cuisine but nicely prepared comfort food. Â Speaking of comfort, there is no need to dress up. Â You would be comfortable in jeans here. Â
So the wife and I sat near a glowing fireplace with cups of fresh coffee and enjoyed a pleasant meal. Â We'll be back.
I've eaten at Lamplighter Tavern many times and was mostly satisfied with their food and service. Â However, the past few visits have been less than stellar concerning the food and service. Â Take for instance, on Mother's Day brunch.
The brunch cost $12.95 each and consist of multiple items such as: french toast, pancakes, eggs benedict, sausage, bacon, scrapple, fresh fruit, cereal, cream chipped beef, assorted breads, lemon cake, and an omelette station. Â For the price, the food was an ok value however mediocre the food. Â The service, however, was much to be desired as I was 45 minutes into my meal when I had to flag down the waitress to get my Mom and I icewater. Â Glasses of icewater is usually a staple at most restaurants like Lamplighter initially when seated. Â For some reason, I overheard a hurried waitress exclaim that they "were out of water." Â Ummm ok...
They were out of cognac so Mom ordered a double shot of Courvouisier brandy that cost $12.00. Â Mind you Lamplighter waitresses normally offered a discount price if patron requests a double shot, normally nothing over $8.00. Â Not this time. Â I ordered a mimosa that cost $6.00 and it was very watered down, just about the worst I've ever experienced. Â The coffee was fresh and good on the plus side as well as the omelettes. Â We also had to flag down the waitress or any available waitress to bring us more utensils that they had taken away from the table. Â The third time we had to flag down the waitress was to ask for the check. Â The fourth and final time (we had to beg the waitress at least 4 times for 4 separate action) we had to flag down the waitress was to return the check after running my credit card. Â
All in all, very mediocre food and poor service. Â This place was once good and a truly good Delco establishment, but they fallen short for some sort of reason. Â I really want to like this place, because the staff was friendly in the past, but alas, not anymore....
