I am a BBQ fanatic. I watch BBQ shows and competitions andwould love to compete. I also love good down home BBQ. Well this place is not that. Let's start by saying the very nice lady behind the counter was very courteous. Pleasantly smiling as she told me all that they DIDNT have which was more than half of the wall written menu. I order ribs and the very nice man said I was getting the best cutof the St. Louis style ribs. It was the very end of the last piece they had. It was not tender or fall off the bone at all. The beef ribs were god awful. Not tender and far from meaty. The shining star (which is why I gave them two stars) was the brisket. Besides the customer service, the brisket was the only happy point of my meal. It was tender and had the correct pull consistency. They also had no side dishes! I am totally to blame for the experience. I should have kept driving to Astoria. Oh, and BTW the kitchen closes at 8pm on Sunday, but they dont tell you that. Had the experience, cant say that I am going back. Major disappointment.

All over the map. Even though only a third full, it was hard to get the old bartender's attention for a drink, and the BBQ was okay, but they were entirely out of sides. The drunks at the bar played almost nothing but Sinatra continually on the jukebox. Not recommended.

Great bar. Nice to walk in on a scorching hot day to A/C, cold beer, and The Ramones on the jukebox. Cheap beer, friendly staff and patrons, excellent BBQ.

This is a local gem for sure. Went here for the first time last year and I was really surprise by the flavor and quality. Now here's a funny story. One of the owners "who's a female" started to talk to me about columbian girls and their big booties. I was like hmmmm ok what about them?

She then proceeded to say some things I can't really say on here. LOL I have no idea what was wrong with her on that day but I thought that she was crazy. Anyway aside of that I really like the place and have gone back a few times since then.

"take out only" Oh she wanted to take me in the back to show me her huge bbq pit oven. I said maybe next time. lol

First let me start off by saying I had my first drink in a bar at this place in 1971 when it was called Tip Toe Inn, yes I lived on the block for 41 years! Spent my youth and teenage years sitting next to the bar in the doorway between the Tip Toe and Tony's Deli! Great memories! Now for Legends, great neighborhood bar and very good BBQ! You could smell the smoker in the air from my house down 71st street when it was Pearsons Texas BBQ, a welcome home smell for some years. Now, it's run by the bar owner, Coach! Coach is a big guy like me and we like to eat good! We like to eat good food! The portions are nice, the food is very good and yes the service is slow, who cares drink more and put your cell phone down! Enjoy the people and conversation! I recently returned back to NYC after several years of living in Phoenix! After work today I'm going to stop in and get my drink and BBQ on and maybe run into some familiar faces! Legends is one place where everybody knows your name!

Whoever thinks this is a dive has never been to real dive bar. The tap selection is decent if lacking in the craft brews (Guinness, Pilsner Urquell, Brooklyn Lager, Bass, Yuengling). Chili is outstanding, a nice understated heat that builds throughout. Brisket is above average, sandwiches are big and a good value. They recently expanded the menu a bit with quesadillas, fajitas and Mac n cheese. Only wish they had a few more sauce options...big fan of the north Carolina style sauces, which they don't have. But, really glad this bar is in the neighborhood and its a nice change of pace from all the ethnic places. It's also the kind of place where if you stay for awhile and have a few beers, your liable to get one or two on the house. Really, this is my kind of place: uncrowded and unpretentious.

Tasty grills, reasonable price. Beer is also little cheaper than other bars. St. Louis rib is a must. The smoky scent comes into your nose when you have it in mouth.

I was in the mood for some BBQ but wasn't in the mood to drive out to the city or the island and I was close by. I was here this past Sunday. Ordered the meat sampler platter and it was utter garbage. Only thing good out of the platter was the sausage,
Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Shoulder was dry and I mean shoe leather dry. Had to choke it down by drowning it in sauce. I was starving otherwise I would have thrown it out. Had a side of Cole Slaw it was pretty good nice crunchy slaw and tangy dressing.  On top of the food being mediocre so was the service. It was a Sunday but not like they were very busy. Guy that cut the meat was just standing there watching the game. Took about a half hour to order and then get my food. It wasn't even hot about room temperature. Will definitely not make a return visit.

If I never looked at yelp there wouldn't be a chance that I would be in this place for some amazing barbeque. When you walk in you are basically walking into your local bar but walk a little further and bang! You are setting yourself up for smoked baby back ribs along with the best tasting brisket I ever had. Their barbeque sauce is really good. You can get it mild to hot. The medium was awesome. Perfect spice which just gave the meat a nice little kick. The ribs don't come with any sauce when served because it doesn't need it. The dry rub is amazing and the fact that the ribs are smoked makes it even better. The pulled pork is also top notch. Another favorite. Also for an appetizer, the nachos are a must have. They are loaded with your choice of meat. I'm getting hungry just thinking about this place. It's really a gem in Jackson Heights.

I heard about this place on a tip from Yelp. We were in search of barbecue and wanted to move beyond the morally-impressive-yet-culinarily-disappointing mediocrity that is the Butcher Bar. After trying to track down John Browns from one (closed) location to another (not yet open) location, we decided to go a bit further afield. I'm glad we did.

I was with my wife, a friend, and my 6-year-old daughter, and I have to admit feeling a little unsure when we got to Legends. From the street, it looks like yet another dive bar, and I wasn't really sure about bringing my daughter in. Still, the smoky smell was amazing, even from the street, and we dove in headfirst. We needn't have worried: the place was great, and the waitress -- yes, the same one everyone else has mentioned -- took us under her wing.

What most of the reviews have missed about the waitress is that she really is the one running the place -- and, to be honest, running it really well. No, it isn't fast food, and she seems perfectly content to keep things going slowly but comfortably. Then again, we never had to wait for drinks, our food was ready relatively quickly, we were given a tour of the roaster, and everything was delivered with smiles and genuine joy. This place doesn't run on a Manhattan timetable, but it runs well. What's more, having stood in line at Fette Sau for 45 minutes and gotten similar delays at many other barbecue joints in town, I have to say that this place was pretty amazing, service-wise.

And the mean...oooh, the meat. The pork ribs are amazing, the brisket is solid, the pulled pork and North Carolina pork and smoked sausage...can't say enough about them. The corn bread is, hands down, the best I've had in New York and the baked beans and mashed potatoes were both very good. Even the waffle fries were a cut above.

Not everything was perfect. I was disappointed with the cole slaw and the sauces, to my tastes, could do with a bit more vinegar flavor. Then again, with meat this good, nothing else really matters. And, for that matter, it's worth noting that the prices are insanely good -- the check for our table, including sodas, beers, tons of sides and a lot of leftovers that came home with us -- totaled $55.

To put it mildly, I'll be back.

Maybe I have just been in some really super gross and seedy dive bars, because this place was a lot cleaner, brighter and more pleasant than I was expecting from the reviews. Plenty of tables available at 8pm on a Saturday night.

The waitress was disarming and sweet (calls everyone "Mi amorrrrr!!") but was comically bad as a waitress. She delivered our food holding a plate in each hand, while talking on her cell phone pressed to her ear. Her English was sketchy. Tried to order a Lienenkugel beer and got Sam Adams. Tried again - she heard Pilsner, then realized they were out of Lienenkugel. Whatever, I drank what they gave me and I assure you the food is worth it.

We ordered (for two people, with intentions of bringing home leftovers):

Jimmy's Junk - brisket (SO MOIST AND FATTY MMMM), kielbasa, pulled pork with BBQ sauce, and pork shoulder. All the other stuff was tasty, flavorful and moist, but I'm still dreaming about the brisket.
Baby back ribs (full rack) - dry rub, awesome flavor, not too spicy, super moist, so melt-in-your-mouthy you barely have to chew it.
Corn bread - so fluffy that we called it corn cake, it arrived freshly piping hot, and was insanely good. The pieces are huge, although the waitress said we'd need two since they are "small". Not so, but they are so delicious you will want to eat the whole huge hunk of sweet delicious corncake all yourself.
Creamed spinach - my mom said it's the best she's ever had. I thought it was great, with a really nice creamy tang.

You should really ask to see the smoker. You may have to use miming and broken Spanish to make it happen, but definitely work a look! And the smell back there....words can't describe it.

Easily the BEST in NYC and that doesnt really say much BUT i would say it's even better that many i have been to down south.

Talked to the man behind the greatness and he's been BBQn for 25 years. Even the corn bread is crazy good.

    everyone must go there.

The legend is true for Jackson Heights. Texas barbecue exists at the back of Legend's Bar & Grill. Be warned, it's a dive people... A true dive where the service is slow, you wonder if anyone is there, and if you'll ever get your check.

Time stands still at Legends. There are no windows so when you walk in the outside world and hour of the day becomes non-existent. The bar boasts 5 large screen state of the art tvs. It's definitely the place to go on game night whether hockey, basketball, or whatever else sport floats your boat. The clientele is all local, sometimes old, majority men, and diverse. It is not a fancy place but you can get all your top shelf liquor here. I once walked in and they gave my friends and I complimentary shots of a new liquor they were trying out. Toasty!

I wanted barbecue for dinner and chose Legends over pizza. "Can you smell that?" I asked the boy. The smoky smell of barbecue permeated the air two blocks up from Legends. "That's the barbecue," I confirmed. Walking through Jackson Heights, you can get a variety of smells from Indian to Mexican meat on the grill. Walking on 35th Ave between 73rd and 72nd, I knew I was walking in the right direction of Legends.

We sat down and was greeted by the sweetest Hispanic woman. She immediately took a liking to the boy, "Mi amor," she called him. Me? Chop liver. Actually she warmed up and squealed, "Que linda!" to me. I guess she found my jealousy endearing. Warm reception is what you'll get at Legends, the rest is history and our waitress disappeared into the night.

The food was so so. It was definitely good and loaded with pulled pork. The servings are big here and do not dissapoint. We had pulled pork sliders, nachos, and a side of cornbread. I wanted some sausage but our order alone was enough to feed three people. They misheard us on the nachos as we had wanted chicken with it. Instead they gave us pork. So we had pork on top of pork. Cornbread was moist and cakey. I loved it. One serving is also big enough for two and definitely necessary to help counteract the saltiness of the pulled pork. There is more pork on the sliders than the bread size can handle.

So Legends is not a fancy dinner but a solid one for bar food and barbecue cravings in general. I wouldn't say it's any better than any of the spots in Manhattan. We all have high hopes for barbecue but really, nothings better than barbecue from the out of state sources itself.

Don't let the facade of Legend's fool you! It's everything I'd come to expect from a neighborhood spot in Jackson Heights...with a smoke pit! The staff is very laid back and friendly. The food is pretty good. Great spot for some beer, smoky bbq, and to watch game. And those wings! MMmm..smoky hot wings.. drool.

First off, the atmosphere at this place is awesome. As soon as we walked in and ordered a beer, the bartended said, "Oh no, that's ok. We'll ring you up later." SUCH a nice feeling! The bar was filled with obvious regulars--people acknowledging one another by name, etc. Love that, and it's always a good sign.

Now. The BBQ (Texas Ranger). Fabulous! And I'm still dreaming about their creamed spinach, you definitely have to order it. Get the large order, you'll thank me later, though you'll wish it was even bigger so you could take home leftovers. There won't be any, trust me.

Everything was brought to us by the most adorable Spanish-speaking woman who called everyone "mi amor" or some other similar term of endearment. She was great!

If you're looking for hoity toity and fancy, skip this joint. If you're into a down-home, feel good scene, don't miss it!

Visited the Texas Ranger for the first time on a Friday night. It's a unique BBQ spot in Jackson Heights that has earned raving reviews in social media channels. The Results: Terrible service, great food.

The front of the bar was crowded with drunk men, which is understandable for a Friday night. We sat at the back, and waited 10 minutes for the menu, until I grew tired and got one myself. The food selection is outstanding: corn bread, garlic mashed potatoes, pulled BBQ pork and chicken and baby ribs.

We ordered beers, chicken and beef samplers, garlic mashed potatoes and onion rings. However, The food took 40 minutes to arrive. I didn't understand why; the folks sitting next to us arrived 20 minutes after and were served with us.

But the wait was worth it; the chicken so soft it melted in my mouth, and the BBQ sauce in which it was bathed was pleasant and not at all overwhelming. The beef, on the other hand, was though and a little to earthy for my taste. The onion rings were huge, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The garlic mash potatoes, a feast of garlic and butter and pulled an easy "wow" out of me.

Next time, I will order my food for pick up and eat it in the comfort of my home.

Bar in the front, BBQ pit in the back: that's all one really needs to have a good time. There aren't may BBQ joints in my beloved Queens (I can only think of one other than Legends), and I dig this place because of its proximity to my living location.

Brisket, sausage, pulled pork, creamed spinach, all delicious, with pretty good prices to boot. The waitress, pit-master, and bartender are all friendly folks and are more than willing to engage in friendly banter.

Enjoy eating meat? Enjoy a nice cold one to go with that meat? This place is for you!

I'm so happy I finally got to experience Legends. For $8, you get a large sandwich stacked with MEAT. I got the brisket and it came out moist without having to ask for it that way. A huge plus for me! Bf got the kielbasa (labeled something else which I can't remember) and it was charred to perfection. Shared some mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Small sides are only needed for two; we definitely over ordered.

Bar is filled with standard American beer and the locals know the bartender.

    I love Legends.

My girlfriends and I meet here at least once a month, usually on a Friday or Saturday night for dinner and drinks. It is a sports bar, but during weekends they have a DJ and this place is definitely a good time. It's always an awesome crowd too. The music they play is awesome, and the drinks are great prices, especially being in New York. The food is great too.

We usually eat dinner first, have drinks, and then there is room to dance since the DJ plays such awesome music. The place is gorgeous. There is 3 floors, huge bars, plasma tv's everywhere, awesome sound system, and really nice decor. I love it.

From the outside you would think ok average bar nothing special. But this is a prime example of a hidden gem - in the outer boroughs.
They have great BBQ - friendly service and reasonable pricing. It is not a glitzy chain restaurant nor do they have a famous chef but they are making delicious food that you will think about for months after.
I got the Jimmy's Junk  Plate, fries and baked beans.
The pulled pork is a little bit on the spicy side - The drinks are pretty strong well worth the money
My waitress was great - she came over to the table frequently to check and see if everything was ok and make a few jokes.
Hands down if you go there once - you will make another trip with out a doubt.

I love this place. It has the charisma of an old bar that so many places no longer have.
Its not trendy, it not hip, its just an old school bar with killer BBQ in the back.
It still has TV's inside the walls... how awesome is that??!!!!

None of the pretentious crowd who pay $17 for a martini here. Just normal real working people who just want to relax and chat a bit.

John and Mike are running the bar there and are great bar keepers, always greet you by your first name if you come around from time to time and get to know them. And the type of individuals that come in from time to time could easily be from ma Scorsese film.

BBQ is great and sandwiches are to die for.

I think Im going to be the only one in here with not a good review of this place.

I went there like 6 months ago for a beer with my brother, as soon as we opened the door every old man in there turned around to look at us, the place smells awful, just like an old town tavern.

Idk about the food, but for the smell wouldn't try it!!

Oh sweet yummy Legends/Texas Ranger BBQ...I really thought I had reviewed you before now. Sometimes I think my reviews get lost in the Yelp Neverwhere.
The brisket is actually mind-blowingly awesome...melt in your mouth but not too much fat with a beefy meaty smoky flavor. I think it's the best brisket I've had in the city. The kielbasa is also really delicious with a great crisp to the outside. I am so glad this place is just a few blocks away from me but sometimes I feel like I am too full to walk home.
Besides Cassidy's, this is also just a nice neighborhood bar with pretty good drink prices and a friendly atmosphere. Sometimes it's super crowded but that's totally okay because it's definitely worth the wait for the BBQ. I know there are people who go here just for beer or drinks but I can't imagine not eating the food when it's just so darn good.

We had eaten there once with some friends and it left such an impression that when it was time to cater a dinner for my entire family it was my top choice.  We ordered the catering package that feeds 10-20 and it was more than enough food for 18 of my family members.
The ribs were smoky and tender and amazing, the pulled chicken was nice and spicy and the chili was rediculously good.  But the absolute favorites were the brisket which was moist and smoky and the pulled pork.  Even the rolls they provided were super fresh.  We also ordered a couple of sides and the creamed spinach was one of the best I've had, better than any of the NY steakhouses.
Not only was the food amazing, but it was not expensive at all.  I'm stoked about eating the leftovers.

You enter a small neighborhood bar walk to the back where there are some tables.  A friendly waitress offers some menus and you notice the huge smoker in the back behind the counter.  It felt like a place you'd find in a small town upstate, not in Queens.  Sure the menu included standard bar fare like burgers and wings, but of course we traveled for the BBQ.

We opted for some babyback ribs and a sampler plate that included pulled pork, brisket, pork shoulder and sausage.  The brisket and pork shoulder were a little on the dry side, but when dipped in your side of BBQ sauce (you have a choice of mild, medium and HOT!) it was tasty. The sausage was also good.  The star of the plate was the pulled pork, tender and juicy with a hint of spice...really good.  The winner of the night were the babybacks.  They make their ribs with a dry rub.  The ribs were meaty, juicy, falling off the bone finger licking good.  They had the perfect amount of spice and smoke, they were delicious.  As for sides we tried the onion rings - good and crispy, but a bit on the greasy side; baked beans - thick and tangy and a bit addicting; coleslaw - your standard mayo based slaw, but it was a nice complement to the spice of all the BBQ.

Great little find for some good BBQ in Queens.

Been trying to get to Hill Country, but its eluded me. For some silly reason, the 'Q at Legends had been forgotten... until a couple nites ago.

It is still so very good. I was there on a WED nite, early, and I was the only custie for 'Q. As has been mentioned, it was the aforementioned guy doing all the cooking and a cutie who came to the much bigger city from Buffalo some years ago.

I got the beef ribs on recommend of said cutie; and, they are good-Good-GOOD, the smoke is just right, as is the blackening on the outside and its juicy and good. But I should have stuck w/pork ribs as pork is just my thing. Again, tho, the beef ribs are so very good, and that's from a pork person.

Also got the pulled pork. This also pleased.

One note on price; it seems the time previous that it was ~u$22 for the assortment platter w/ LOTS of meat. This time, it was at or about the same, but for only the two items. Jes' sayn, consider the assortment if you have any inclination to try a bunch of stuff. It seems you get more for your dollar.

OH and tired eyes missed the wings, that someone had mentioned. Next time...

In prev review, a couple things I wrote are questionable:
    - Hill Country has the only beef ribs I've liked (altho, its been some time since having been to Dino and I remember not their beef ribs); Daisy Mae's tasted like liquid smoke to me.
    - When I wrote that the bar was "nothing fancy," it was kind of a disservice. Regarding ambiance; yah, its a simple "old guys" bar. But, its so fitting that this bar gets to play host to this 'Q. It just seems right.

Unbelievable.  This place looks like a tiny, quiet sports bar from outside, with almost no indication of the BBQ heaven going on inside.  There are 8 tables in the back where it smells like burning wood.  They claim to have the largest smoker in NY, and I believe it.

On a Sunday the place had maybe 10 guys watching football, the restaurant section being empty.  We sat down, and a woman came out and told us that the appetizers and sampler platters were 50% off when a NY team is playing.  (The sign said 25% off, so I'm not sure).  We ordered the meat sampler platter and two different side order sampler platters.

What we got: 4 HUGE ribs (more meat then a half rack of regular ribs), with smoked meat that dripped with juice and practically fell off the bone, and large portions of awesome pulled pork, pork shoulder, sausage, and beef brisket.  My favorites were the pulled pork, the pork ribs, and the sausage.  The sides were 8oz each of creamed corn, creamed spinach, corn salad, mashed potatoes that seemed to already have sour creme and cheese, and spicy BBQ beans, all delicious!  The two of us ate for about an hour, continuously talking about how awesome everything was, and we ended up only eating about 1/3 of each item.  I went home with a very heavy take out bag, and the bill was $23, after the 50% discount (I think it was supposed to be 25%, but she was nice!)

Unbelievable.  I felt like I was stealing.  The service and food come kinda slow, but this is slow BBQ, and really it just seems slow because you are staring at a bunch of BBQ meat on the counter and constantly smelling the smoke and meat.

We will be back when our BBQ coma wears off!!  Great place, and they do delivery and catering too!

LEGENDS! What a fun little bar!

Came here with a friend that knew the bartender and so we got free drinks after free drinks...

It was small, the crowd was older but interesting, and I had a ton of fun. The jukebox kept us entertained!

It's a good place to wind down after a long day at work -- but don't expect a city-like bar or service.

If you're looking to get some down home BBQ, stop in here.  As soon as you walk in you smell the smoky flavors of BBQ meat and right away your mouth begins to water.  Your eyes are lured to the kitchen where the ribs, kielbasa, and other meaty goodness glisten under the heating lamps.   Then you sit and look around and notice, them place is not so glamorous, the service is friendly but slow, and you wait patiently for your meal eyeing everything that comes out of the kitchen.

Food is good, nearly tried everything on the menu: the combo try 4 different meats is a good choice for anyone who can't decide but wants it all. The ribs (both kinds) are very tasty, the sides (which are not included with the meal) were so good but so bad for you!  Beer battered onion rings, waffle fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, potato salad, corn bread - yup tried it all and it was all good!

It is a great place for a relaxing lunch/dinner with friends.  The price is a little high for a hole in the wall BBQ place but if you're in the area try it out for yourself and be your own judge.  You won't be disappointed.

At first glance, it's hard to notice the appeal or draw. But once you've been welcomed to your seat, and the menus have been dropped, you'll be bombarded with warm hospitality and insightful suggestions.

The menu at first seemed mildly daunting, having a wide selection of barbecue staples like baby back ribs, pulled pork/ chicken/beef, brisket, pork shoulders, and chicken just to name a few. Their "Bubba's Bomb" a meat lover's right of passage, encompasses nearly all the aforementioned choices. Of the meats sampled though, the pulled pork and St. Louis style ribs were the winners. The brisket dry without any supplementary sauce, while the pork shoulder and chicken were mediocre at best. All in all though, still one of the best bbq places you can find in the cubby of queens, and possibly New York.

P.S. No matter what the friendly Spanish lady on the counter says, DO NOT TRY THE SUICIDE SAUCE. It's the blood of the devil i tell you. EL DIABLO!

My bf and I have been coming here for over a year now.  It's a great place to stop by and get an ice cold beer.

In the back of the bar, there is a separate establishment called "Texas Ranger BBQ".  My bf and I are big fans of their beef brisket and corn bread.  He also likes their short rib flautas and kielbasa sausages.  Their pulled pork is also pretty good.

We usually call Texas Ranger ahead of time when we need catering.  Beef Brisket sandwiches - YUM!

    Texas Ranger BBQ Hours:

I give this place five stars because I grew up in the area.  It's really just a dive bar with a few TVs (none LCD or plasma) and a few tables.  It's small and somewhat uncomfortable, but in a way that's what I like about it.

In the back is where Pearson's BBQ used to be (it was one of the best BBQ joints in NYC).  Now it operates under a different name (new ownership, I believe).  There are a few small tables and that's it.  There's one dude back there cooking everything.  The waitress is lazy as hell; it's take forever to get the food.  However, the food is above-average BBQ... and it's cheap.

Jackson Heights is the most ethnically diverse community in the world, and this bar reflects that.  The last time I was there, I saw two white American firemen, a young black transplant from Cleveland, an Asian couple (both wearing football jerseys, and screaming at the TV), a Colombian waitress, an old guy with an Italian flag decal on his jacket, etc.  You get the point.

And here we all are in this little bar, eating BBQ and watching football.  The scene here always makes me happy.  Real nice people, from all over the place, all welcome, not just getting along but embracing one another, all screaming at Eli Manning in unison.  I smile.

Go check it out.  It's not Blue Smoke or Hill Country or Dinosaur BBQ, nor is it ESPN Zone or a top notch sports bar, but you will enjoy it and feel right at home.

Oh, and in case you're wondering what I'd rate the place if I weren't a local; I'd give it 4 stars.

Holy crapola - this is a carnivore's wet dream!  Let me preface this review (or droolview) by saying that both my friend and I are from the Midwest, aka Meat Country.  We know our meat and BBQ, let alone old-school bars.  Legends nails everything and then some on the points, especially when we put the screws to the expertly smoked proteins.

First off, you could blink and miss this place - very low-key front but once inside the bar / restaurant is a bit cavernous, especially by NYC standards.  CLEAN...and a non-Irish bar (thank the dark ones).  This is a "bar".  In the back are tables for a-munchin, but you can eat in the bar if you so desire.  The menu is pretty straight forward.  Apps, sandwiches and then either sampler dishes or full on protein plates.  Both of us went for the sampler, which is a good deal = $13.95 for 4 different proteins at 1/4 lb each.  If you want anything like sides (which you should) or cornbread (which you REALLY should) then you have to order those separate.  Classic meat-haus.

Onion Rings were awesome and the cornbread rocked.  That baby was a mile high and fully studded with kernals of corn...and had me moaning for more!  Butter and honey woulda killed but no need to get picky.  The meat itself was amazing.  The brisket, pulled pork and sausage really were winners for us but frankly there wasn't anything bad on the plate.  The people next to us got ribs which also looked awesome and done properly (i.e. rubbed with sauce on the side, not on the ribs).

Both of us waddled out of there savoring the smoked goodness that we just downed while contemplating when we'll go back to Legends.

One thing to note - there isn't anything close to being fishitarian / vegetarian friendly about this joint.

I was briefly married to a Brazilian guy here last night.

But it was to confuse the already sweetly confused waitress who forced cornbread, onion rings, potato salad, beef, chicken and pork onto everyone on the table.

I had their chicken wings as well, and they were fantastic. Their suicide version was just spicy enough without losing the flavor. Great BBQ sauce and great sides. As an onion ring connoisseur, I have to say they were pretty tasty. And the cornbread was mountainous, buttery and full of, well, corn.

One of the people in our dining group last night knew the owner so we not only had an incredible meal with the chef asking us if everything was AOK, but we also had a tour of the immense smoker out back. That's right, smoker. No gas grilling here, but genuine woodsmoke and charcoal, with their briskets and other meats slowly cooking for up to 12 hours at a time.

It's not much to look at from the outside, and on the inside it's your typical sports bar look, but the BBQ is amazing. Worth a trek out of whatever hole of NYC you live in to come and try out.

My last review wasn't very detailed. :D

*I'm a huge fan of the kielbasa sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich
*Onion rings are great, as is the cole slaw.  On Sundays you can get creamed corn and it is SUPER yummy.
*I like old man bars, so a mixture of old man bar and barbecue joint makes me very happy.
*The waitress is a character. Very sweet.

Decided to come here after a long week because:
    1. I was craving bbq
    2. I didn't want to shlep to the city
    3. the Yelp reviews looked great

Well, it's definitely a neighborhood joint, that is for sure. The "waitress" is a very friendly, (but food-pushing) abuelita who may be a tad hard of hearing. I ordered a beer from a list on the wall that apparently she had never heard of, and the bar did not stock, haha!! I had brisket, friends had pulled pork sandwich, hot wings, and pork ribs, with sides of onion rings and fries.  The onion rings were thick and oozing grease, but in a good way.  The fries were blah - dubious if they were fresh or frozen. And even though pulled pork was delish, I've gotta say, overall, the Yelp reviews led me astray.  Denis Leary gets catering from this place, seriously? Shame on you for name-dropping, and shame on me for falling for it.

Maybe I'm being too harsh - it's as good as you'd expect from looking at this place, but definitely not the gem other Yelpers make it out to be.

I don't typically go for BBQ but I was intrigued that this place is a block away from Jackson Heights and Little India. Now it looks like I'll be eating more BBQ.

There's a casual mixed crowd of diners, drinkers, neighbors and new faces. For some reason I had imagined this place would be dark and moody but it is brightly lit very welcoming and there's something for everyone on one of the 7 flat screen TVs.

I had the BBQ Brisket sandwich, and order of fries and a pint of Yuengling. All were satisfying. The sandwich was stacked with lean brisket and didn't have much sauce but, despite this, was juicy and tender. The fries were exactly what fries should be: thick, crunchy and salty. The Yuengling was, well...Yuengling. Indistinctly pleasant.

A total secret! This BBQ place used to be in LIC (if I recall correctly), then vanished one day and reappeared in the back of Legends. So good you'll eat too much and get sick, and since it's in a bar, good beers on tap! Don't tell your friends.

(It's still NYC BBQ, but... good luck beating it.)

VERY good barbecue!!!   What more can I say?  Let's see... it's buried in the back of a family owned bar.  From what I gathered from the fairly drunk gentleman that shared his story, this place is owned by two brothers.  They share a love for drinking and barbecue.  The barbecue itself has a very long, historical tale.   Apparently it used to be a full, stand-along restaurant, but has since down-sized after nearly going away completely.  Now it's contained in the back of Legends.  If my memory serves me, the name of the barbecue restaurant used to be called Pearson's, or Piersen's.

Regardless of the name and the history, this place stands alone in the wonderfully diverse community of Jackson Heights.  Nearby restaurants are more geared towards the heavy Indian, Pakistani, and Latino cultures.  This is definitely the only barbecue joint in the neighborhood.  If you're worried about the time it would take to get there, don't!   The trek will be worth it.  Bring a crowd (and pray for a table big enough), because the more the merrier... and it seems like the prices get better as you order more (larger, group-sized portions, by the pound).

They serve excellent ribs, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, barbecue chicken, and sausages (or kielbasa... I can't remember) for sure.  For sides, they carry cole slaw (good stuff!), fries, and baked beans.

I've eaten there a couple times now, and I always walk away happy.  If drinking is your thing, you can get mixed drinks, liquor, beer, and wine.  Families can be seen there, as well as individuals, couples, and larger groups of friends.

They also do take-out and catering.  I would LOVE to get them to cater an event.  The last time I was in, the waitress was telling me how Dennis Leary comes in once or twice a month and orders 300-500 dollars of barbecue for a party/get-together.

    Enjoy!
