The Rover is one of my favorite spots in Astoria. Sometimes its crowded and some nights its quiet. I'm Irish and when I'm here I just get this feeling of HOME. The bartenders are awesome, super friendly, never had one that had an attitude. Always paying attention to what you order and they are very generous. PLUS the owner and a lot of regulars there are 49er fans so its a pleasant place to watch games during Football season!
Review Source:Stopped by here one night to catch an NBA playoffs game, seems like an alright place with average priced beers, maybe a little expensive for its location even. Â They have two dart boards, though only one of them seemed to be operational at the time I went. Â They also have the newest Golden Tee Live there, which is a huge plus in my book (without that and the darts this bar would kinda suck).
Problem is we wanted to play a game of darts after we drank our first beer. Â Were about to play when a rowdy group of three obviously tanked guys decided to play, fine whatever, will play after them. Â However after asking if we could get the next game they continued to not play, eat chips, guzzle beers, arm wrestle and annoy everyone in the bar. Â My problem is these guys were out of controla and unruly to the point they would want to fight someone if you said that they should give up the dart board. Â The bar had plenty of staff including guys there that could have dispatched of this problem, however, it seemed like they decided to ignore it which was disappointing.
We ended up staying to watch nearly the end of the game and these guys were STILL on the dartboard, I'm talking like three hours later, it was ridiculous.
Overall - average bar, for sure over rated in my book....not sure what the real draw is here.
I've officially christened this place as my official neighborhood bar. There are too many in Astoria that are a bit too trendy for my tastes, and when I want to grab a drink after work I would much rather come here. The bartender is really friendly and, as everyone mentioned, 3rd round is generally on the house. It's a true locals pub!
