The Libertine is a gem of a bar & is one of our favorite places now that indoor smoking is a thing of the past in Dallas. Â Their menu is fantastic & beautifully executed- we've rarely had a miss in all the terrific meals we've enjoyed here (including half price food nights & beer dinners). Â Their Hog Wings are excellent, their Cheese Plate is nicely curated, the Tuna Burger is outstanding & even simple things like tomato soup or a club sandwich shine (the club features honest-to-god roasted turkey breast & ham- NOT lunch meat!) Their tap selection is small, but hell it's a pretty small bar & they're more Classic Cocktail focused anyway which is just all right with me. Â On a recent late night weekday visit we lucked into meeting Carrie who must have been the manager on duty- she had this way about her that was equal parts easy-going, cool chick you'd love to chat up at a bar & hard-working, diligent bartender that always notices when you need a fresh drink yet manages to be always busy cleaning & filling drink orders (without missing a beat conversationally). Â She was charming & seemed to really take ownership of the place. Â It's nice to be in the company of someone who clearly loves their job.
Review Source:One of the very lively bars on Lower Greenville, this place is fun for a post dinner drink on a week-end!
You will not be disappointed by their cocktails - from traditional to fun ones to even mystery ones (you don't know what will be in your drink until it gets to your table). The service is very good, the big wooden tables are convivial and not too big to have conversations with large parties.
I've been to this bar several times over the years, visiting family in the Lakewood section of Dallas. I've always had a fun time and this last visit was no exception. The bartenders are good at what they day, and speedy to boot. The drinks are not expensive, and the parking seems really easy for such a busy part of town.
The atmosphere reminds me of some of my favorite bars over the years, in many different cities. I always like to try some of their different New Belgium selections that we can't get in Oklahoma for some dumb, antiquated liquor law reason.
I'm sure I'll be back again soon and look forward to it! Maybe sometime I'll also get to try the food!
Gosh, I really love The Libertine. It's not pretentious like a lot of Dallas places, or
dude-bro like Addison bars.
The atmosphere is super laid back and the food is way above average bar food.
Buuuuttt, it's the drinks that really nail this place down! They are so fresh and creative! I'm a sucker for anything with Basil and the Libertine always delivers.
My favorite drink is the Elderflower Sorbet: Dolin Blanc, St Germain, Chambord, grapefruit & peach bitters.
Go getcha one in remembrance of ME!
The Libertine is a great, laid back place for solid drinks and food. Parking can be a bit of a pain, with the recent nearby construction but they do have a dedicated parking lot down the street.
One our last visit, we were able to sit outside on the patio with our dog (which is always a plus for dog-lovers!). Wednesday nights are $3 Texas beer nights, which was great as well! I ordered the burger and the bf ordered the french dip. Both were good, but we both really enjoyed the french dip.
Next time, we'll try to come on Tuesdays when their food is 1/2 off.
I've been before for drinks but this is the first time we stopped in for brunch. Â Ordered a Bloody Mary and the crab Benedict with the bleu cheese potato cakes, husband ordered the orange French toast. Â
Food came out fast and the table next to our was ooh-ing and ahh-ing at my plate, calling it "food porn" lol. Â It was really quite good and I can appreciate a correctly poached egg, not too over cooked, perfect!
Ordered a couple of champagne drinks after that cause they were cheap, probably should have stuck with vodka...oh well there's always next time!
We plan on coming back on a Tuesday night when the food is half off. Â Really want to try out some of craft beers, too. Â We like this place, unpretentious and fun. Â Our server seemed pretty nice too. Â Used to live in this area so I miss it, will try to make it down here more often (especially when Trader Joe's opens!)
Dive bar with more liquor selections than beer but a nice place to hang for a few. Bartender was friendly and the locals let you be. Did not get the chance to try the food but they do make a great cheese and charcuterie plate. Will have to try that if I pass this way again.
Cute idea where you can buy a "pal" a drink and they have 30 days to claim it. Names are written on a board above the bar, and that list was full! Great way to make current patrons to keep coming back, or new customers come visit.
Oh libertine, you have always had a special place in my heart. I've had many beers here and some great bar food, but until last night I've never felt inspired for a review.
I decided to go out on the limb and steer away from the ever delicious grilled cheese and go far the ahi tuna burger. I'm super glad I did, that burger raised the bar in my book from...cool bar with really good pub food, to cool bar with the BEST food I've had at a bar?
We also got some free entertainment from a beyond plastered lady at the table next to us. Win win haha
Also did I mention I really like the addition of the tables outside? Nice :)
My meal last night at The Libertine was epic!
Don't get me wrong, the bar food has always been great here, but the menu has never made it a destination spot for a great dinner. Â
That has all changed.
I had the Tuna Salad (seared Ahi Tuna on spicer greens with an herb vinaigrette) and Wow! ... I could eat that salad at least 3 times a week. Â The Ahi was perfect and the vinaigrette was delicious.
My husband had the Ahi Tuna Burger (he usually goes for the Grilled Cheese) and it looked every bit as good as my salad. Â We definitely didn't intend on both having tuna, but it worked out well - his burger came with an amazing Wasabi Ginger Aioli that I occasionally stole a dab of and added to my own tuna on the salad.
In addition to the amazing food, I'm so glad that tables have been added outside! Â Sometimes the inside of the bar is impossibly crowded and having the choice to sit outside on a nice night is a very welcome change!
We've always ventured to The Libertine for drinks (great beer selection) but will be sure to keep it in mind for dinner now as well.
My husband and I are new to Dallas and picked this place place on a recommendation. Â It was unbelievable! Â Great drinks and even better food. Â We had the hog wings and steak sandwich. Â They were the best hog wings I have ever had. Â Steak sandwich and sweet potatoe fries were also perfect. Â I am pretty sure I out ate my 6'3 husband.... Â couldn't get enough. Â We will be back here again for sure.
Review Source:Solid bar to grab some beers and food. They have a very decent bar food menu, which is packed with some good quality items that they expertly make many times over. I'm a particular fan of the portabella fries and love the french dip. Not as crazy about the mac/cheese here as other people...tastes too much like pasta in alfredo to me. Brunch here was good as well. I once got towed because I parked in the parking lot with Big Wongs in it, so don't make that mistake! They will tow you if you park there!
Review Source:I'd probably give it 2.5 stars if I could.  The cheeseboard was good, not great.  The Mac and cheese was a major disappointment...not very cheesy.  The wings and jalapeño soup were decent but I've had better.
The girl that waited on us was very nice and gave good service so went with 3 stars.
This is a review for half priced tuesdays....
So i used to come here when they had a FANTASTIC wild mushroom salad...
and then it went away...
BUT THEN i discovered the duck confit salad and loved libertine once more! Â The duck confit salad is AMAZING... with more than a small fistful of duck confit with a sort of balsamic vinegar sauce in the mixed greens. Â In fact, my eating companion ordered a SECOND one... for herself!
I also really enjoy their mediterranean plate here.. however, it seems a bit inconsistent. Â Another companion ordered one in addition to the one I ordered... and mine came with an extremely large pile of olives while hers came with grapes and olives. Â No issue, we just did some switcheroo (since i dislike olives), and all was well. Â But do watch for inconsistency during half priced tuesdays.
This place is a gastronome's pub in a good spot on lower Greenville. Â The food is an eclectic fusion of traditional pub fare and a mix of this and that making a pretty great place for a pint and a bite. Â Case in point, our last trip we split a standard fish and chips with a Med-Mex (Mediterranean-Mexican) appetizer plate. Â They have some awesome portabella fries that are a perfectly justifiable diet buster.
The draft selections are always unique and rotate on a regular basis. Â They also have a pretty respectable craft bottle/can selection.
Tuesday nights are  1/2 price food  - a great deal if you get in early enough to snag a table.
They just added some outdoor seating in front that I'm looking forward to checking out once the weather is right for it.
They've added to their menu, to the delight of those of us who don't eat pork or beef!
Of particular amazement is the duck salad. It has a hefty portion of protein, served in a large, low bowl, with fresh greens and just the right amount of dressing and additional toppings mixed in. On Tuesday nights, you can get anything but the cheeseboard, the meat and fish specials (of which they offer none that evening) for half price! No drink specials Tuesday though, so have a 9oz glass of wine across the street at Mudsmith before coming over if you want a drink. At Libertine, the wine pours are 5oz and are priced around $8-10, which is the same monetary amount for which you can get almost double the wine across the street, any time day or night. If you want a well drink at Libertine, it'll cost you around $5. Again, better deals are to be had on wells across the street, this time at Singlewide, where they have $2 wells weeknights til 9pm.
The service at Libertine can get a little frazzled on a Tuesday because of the half priced food, but remind your server of what you need and it will appear eventually. I still hate the high tables, but they do have some booths and low tables along the right side of the restaurant if you get there early enough. There are also about 8 small tables outside too if you want to be able to stare longingly at the new Trader Joe's construction next door while you eat.
What is left to say about this place? It's delicious and one of my favorite Tuesday night places for half price food. Tuesdays are the most affordable nights to go out in Dallas and The Libertine is certainly in my rotation for dinner, and convenient to World Beer Company across the street which has half off Texas beer that same night. Their menu changes fairly regularly but as of currently I enjoy their fish and chips or their ginger beef salad as a main. For apps get the portobello fries or the Tex-Med plate which has chips, black bean hummus, feta, corn and black beans, candied japs, strawberry jam, and guac. Yum! They have a consistently great beer selection and Wednesday is $3 Texas beer night and Thursday is keep the glass night. They also offer a cocktail menu with unique and delicious concoctions if beer is not your thing.
Review Source:The staff is really friendly here and helpful. The waitress recommended the Mediterranean plate for me and my date to split as an appetizer, and it was excellent. The sweet potato fries are the best I've tried, and the steak sandwich was delicious. They have a great and diverse beer selection, lots of microbrewery selections.
Review Source:Small place, large beer selection, not particularly good for big groups. I came here 30 minutes before they were about to close because I'm terrible at giving directions. The waitresses were kind of rude about last call and shooing us out. I understand having to deal with drunk people all night and wanting to go home, but a little courtesy would have been appreciated.
Review Source:I've always heard that the Libertine has great food. Â That's not always the reason I come here- since there is a more than adequate beer list to keep me preoccupied.
However, I've tried food on two different occasions. Â The first time I tried the mac and cheese. Â It was...good, I guess? Â Just didn't hit the spot at all for me. Â It was more like penne with cheese. Â Not what I was expecting and not something I'll ask for again, though there was nothing wrong with it- just boring.
The second time, I tried the grilled cheese. Â Cue the game show winning sound effects. Â This was fantastic. Â Super melty cheesey insides with toasty bread. I had it with a side of salty sweet potato fries, which were popular with others at my table.
One of the nice things about the Libertine is the specials- check their website if you're not sure, but on various weak nights you can enjoy specials such as half price Texas pint night. Â Half the cost, double the drinking?
Meh--it was aight. Went there on a Saturday around 7pm and there was plenty of seating. Service was very, very slow. As more of our group arrived (totaling around 6 or so), service remained very, very slow. I guess "low-key" would be a good euphemism.
Drinks were okay, not overly expensive. Food was *incredibly* average to below average. We tried lots of things--the salmon board for, like, $15-ish was okay. Good-looking hunk of salmon, although I didn't try it. I got their fish & chips which involved 3 logs of batter-fried fish that somehow had no flavor in any way! Just...blah. Tasted like water. The fish lay on a thick bed of skinny fries and they were abundant and pretty good. Two sphere-shaped hush puppies accompanied and were blah.
Oh--the real letdown was that we got an app of sweet potatoe fries (they were okay) that came with "three" different dipping sauces. I believe the three sauces were ranch, lite ranch, and off-ranch. They all tasted exactly the same--like nothing! Again, no flavor. I got a side of blue cheese dressing and it tasted just like the ranch.
I guess I'm ranting now. Suffice it to say, food was mediocre on this trip. With all the choices of bar & grills in the area, I probably will skip coming back.
Go to Lakewood Landing or Pourhouse or Cosmo's or Cock & Bull or Gloria's or Terilli's or Blue Goose or (fill in the blank) for way better food.
**again, the drinks were normal.
Playing it fast and loose!
Libertine Bar has those classic bar stylings that make it transcend the centuries. The long wooded bar and huge barback, with shelf upon shelf bursting with every liquor your heart could yearn for, reminds me of the great saloons that Carrie Nation used to hack away with her axe. Add to that their pre-prohibition drink menu and you are in a bar that your father, father's father and father's father's father (not to mention your lushy great aunt) would call home.
Ok, so I skipped one little bar item, beer. While I am not a beer drinker they have many beers on draft. Thursday nights they have a great special, order the beer of the week and you get to keep the branded glass. Sigh, why can't there be a bourbon of the week. Oh well, at least I can get a great sidecar or sazerac to cope.
All this drinking may make you quite hungry and you're in luck. The kitchen works wonders. My favorite items are the grilled cheese sandwich with avocado, bacon and tomato, I always get it with the creamy jalapeño soup and so should you! Other tasty options are the tuna sandwich, hot wings and fries. Careful with the hot wings, the sauce is slap your momma good, so don't bring her here for your Sunday brunch.
Other than your mom, I would say that libertine is a perfect place to enjoy an afternoon watching the game, talking with friends or impressing your girl with a low key night.
Viva la Libertine!
Food was so great I came here twice in three days...and mind you, I hardly go out! that says a lot!!!!
FIrst night I came here was on a Wednesday. I was here with other yelpers...we had a going party for Frances. I had the creamy jalapeno soup and a mixure of haystack fries with sweet potato fries. Food was great! it didn't taste like frozen food, fried, thrown on the plate and brought it out to you. I loved the soup!!! it was so good! first time having jalapeno soup and standards are set kind of high. That's not all I had though :) you see, I sat next to Ben E, and he ordered everything on the menu. So I took a bite out of everything he ordered from the menu. hahahah. I got a taste of hog wings and it was delicious!!! they were chunks of ribs soaked in buffalo sauce. He also ordered a grill cheese with creamy jalapeno soup. I took a bite of that, too. ehhehe it was also freaking delicious and it went great with the creamy jalapeno soup!
I came back on a Saturday after with a few friends. For the second night I had a smoke salmon board. I didnt care much for the cheese because it had no flavor but I guess it shouldnt have any flavor so the smoke salmon could stand out. Salmon was smokey like it should! Delicious! We shared an ordered of portobello mushrooms and it was good, too. Taste better dipped with the ranch they give you. They give you three, not the thick or too creamy one. But the one in the middle...yumm!!! I love that they offer Woodchuck because I can't drink beer. Cider is my go to if I don't want cocktails. I settled for the raspberry woodchuck. It was just like a Smirnoff! Dangerous because you could keep drinking and drinking!!!!
WARNING: Eating the Hog Wings could make you smack a random stranger... they are THAT good. I ordered them during a Yelpy party and was like HOT DAMN, pound my feet on the floor, STFU! Now mind you... this was a couple of Jameson on the rocks later... pallet prime for flavor... but DAMN.
We came in a large group and the service was great. She was totally Johnny on the spot with anything we needed. I like the warm interior of this place, but its a classy warm, not daunting dramatic dark kinda dark... Beers on tap, top shelf sips, tasty as hell food... what exactly am I missing? Um, nothing, that's what!
This place is pretty good. My friend and I went on Tuesday around 5:30, which is the day in which all food is half off. I'm broke and cheap, so I always appreciate a good deal. Tuesday happy hour lasts from 4pm to midnight, so you have plenty of time to grab some grub. However, it starts to get really busy around 6pm and you may need to wait to get a table because seating is really limited, so I suggest moseying on over before the 6pm crowd shows up.
We ordered:
Smoked salmon plate - this was delicious. I LOVE salmon, but only sashimi or cured salmon, and this was very good. The smokiness was just enough while being tender and flaky. Â I didn't really care for the other parts of the app - bread, pickles, cheese. The salmon stole the show.
Tuna burger - delicious! I had mine medium rare. I should have ordered rare, but it was still very good. At $14 minus half, $7 was a steal for such a large burger. Hell yea!
Mussels - Â pretty good. You really can't mess up mussels! I don't think I'd get this again, however. But the accompanying fries were thin, crispy and yummy.
Sweet potato fries - very good.
Bread pudding - I love bread pudding. Hattie's makes the best bread pudding in the DFW, but Libertine's was a bit too dry for me.
It's sort of funny that I go to a bar to eat food and not drink, but I don't really like the taste of alcohol, can't hold down my liquor, and would rather spend my calories on food not drink. So I can't comment on their alcohol, but for a bar, the food here is excellent. I'd definitely hit this place up again but only on Tuesdays.
Parking is limited on the Greenville entrance, but they have their own free lot about 200 yards away. However, that lot is kinda tiny and you may get your car dinged up cuz it is tight!
Let me start off by saying that you can never go wrong with $2.50 champagne cocktails for brunch. That alone deserves all three stars. So kudos dolls, I salute you to helping me get sauced appropriately on Sundays.
Unfortunately this about where the honeymoon ends. I've been to Libertine on quite a few occasions to meet friends for brunch and it never fails that something just does not taste quite right. It is not disgusting or anything, but it is just not very good. What I will say is that if you are unhappy with your food, the staff there has always been super nice and try to work with you, but honestly, I don't bother because it is what it is. Â A friend told me recently that the brunch has gotten better and I want to definitely give it another go when I'm back in town. As for now, three stars will just have to do.
I am completely baffled as to how this place has ever made a "Best Brunch" list in Dallas. Whoever okay'ed this spot on its brunch food had to be high as a kite and everything tasted like rainbows and ice cream.
I love this bar. It's a great bar. They have awesome beer selection, the atmosphere is casually perfect and their dinner selection isn't half bad. But the plate of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and bacon I ordered for brunch this past Sunday left me starving since I could only manage to down three bites.
The gravy had no flavor and came on "biscuits" that basically were pancakes? No chunks of sausage or yumminess were involved in the gravy - just plain white thick ass gravy that tasted like a milky powdery liquid at best. The eggs were eggs, but I asked for two and I'm pretty sure I got 17. Obviously, I finished all the bacon but we all know just eating bacon for breakfast isn't the most nutrious option.
Oh and everything was cold which made the already tasteless gravy even worse.
Of course I'll go back to drink and maybe get some fries, but I really wish I could meet the person who said this place is top-notch enough to be on a "Best Brunch" list. No siree, bob. NO.
****FAVORITE BAR****
This is a bar with some kick-ass bar food and they're not trying to be anything else. Â I've been for many a drinking night and always appreciated the variety of beers and friendly service. Â I recently bellied up to the bar and had their fish and chips.....one word - Fantastic! Â Perfect amount of crunch and seasoning from their superb batter.
Libertine will continue to be my go to bar/pub in Dallas.
Oh holy hell!
It's been awhile since I last visited Libertine, but we made the trip up there last night. I ordered a burger Med-well with blue cheese, I asked for jalapenos and they didn't have any. But the bar tender and I chatted a bit about it and he said he could get fresh jalapeno on it for me. So I went with that.
After a really long wait, the burgers came out and there on my plate i found a delicious treat in a stainless steel ramekin, grilled sliced jalapenos! I dumped them into the top and bottom bun of my blue cheese laden burger, squished it all down to make it just the right size to take a bite from and...............
AHHHHHHHHHHHH angels sang and trumpets sound, fireworks of every flavor burst in to my soul. Tears of joy came to mine eye. The world was complete again, the perfect burger!
The fries are always really good at Libertine. But they had clearly been in the window a little too long and got cool before reaching me. I didn't complain, the burger glow was still in full effect.
I love the libertine. It is such a great place to go and hang out or eat. My only gripe is the size, sometimes can get busy (especially during specials) and it is hard to stand, forget about sitting.
They have awesome specials almost every day of the week. Their food is exceptional, especially for bar food. They offer some different drinks like infusions. They also offer brunch, which is very good. Half Price food on Tuesday is my favorite.
Libertine....I love you. But I'll never be back.
And it's not because you're not amazing. It's because I closed a chapter of my life within the walls of your establishment.
I crushed on him for 3 years from afar...finally, after years of small talk and coy hellos from across the way....we finally made plans to hang out. Of course, he was leaving to move out of state in a week...but we'd waited 3 years .... we were going to make the most of it.
4 months later, numerous out of state visits....our romance came to an end. A rather sad, rather unfortunate....sudden break, that I didn't see coming or was I ready for.
But a month later, he had some of my stuff to return to me, and was feeling a little sheepish about how things had ended.
So, we met at The Libertine. I don't remember what we drank. I just know we drank a lot. And the drinks were solid and the service was pleasant and came with personality. Â I don't really remember what we snacked on. I just remember his smile and his eyes, and the tears, and the laughter.
And then, we walked away.
So, Libertine....I do remember that you provided a nice little place for me to feel my heart break into a couple thousand pieces. The drinks helped the pain though.
I'll probably drive by you because I frequent several other spots on Lower Greenville....and I'll tell people that they should definitely check you out. But as for me....that day was enough.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Libertine Bar earlier this week for the first time. It was delightful!
It was a Tuesday and it WAS a prime dinner time...showed up to a 30 minute wait. Bummer. But, there IS a Single Wide in walking distance so no big deal.
We were seated at a long booth that you sort of share with...everybody else. I'm totally fine with that normally...but everybody in Dallas speaks so loudly that it was a little weird. (Or it was just really packed...or Dallas residents talk too loud.)
Ordered beer from a lengthy drink menu. Our server was AWESOME. Attentive without being annoying which I'm super into. It was also impressive because...did I mention that this place was PACKED?
Food time: Grilled cheese with tomatoes. DELICIOUS. It's hard to screw up a grilled cheese but when you make me really pumped about it...bravo.
This place would have gotten 3 stars because it was so packed inside and so loud...but I can't blame that on them! They are popular. And it was normal people's dinnertime.
Dallas...you're not so bad afterall.
I went to the Libertine for dinner to take advantage of the half-price food on Tuesdays.
They have a small parking lot but this fills up quickly for the half-price food on Tuesdays. I parked in the adjacent neighborhood streets.
My friend and I ordered spring mix salads (ahh! radishes! AWESOME!), macaroni & cheese, portobello fries, and Muenster french fries. I had heard rave reviews about the macaroni & cheese but I think it's just not my style. I prefer a sharper mac & cheese - heavy on the cheddar. This one was just gruyere, I believe. It was good but not the very best mac & cheese. The portobello fries and Muenster fries were deliciously addicting! I would highly recommend both! The salad was delicious - a great mix of greens and light dressing.
I am glad to still be finding new places in Dallas and The Libertine is a new favorite.
I can not deny I had a great time at the libertine bar but I can deny all the backwards crap I did while there and I will. Sorry to that blonde, curly haired girl in the cut off shorts, you are a wonderful girl who deserves more than what i thought was char but wuz just sloppy.
I had a little to eat, the mussels and fries is what. From there I just made my way to whiskey and convinced my partners in stupidity that everything was under control. I think I almost fell asleep in the women's bathroom but that's fine.
This is hands down my favorite bar in the DFW.
There is always good music playing at a low volume so you can talk to people. The bartenders are awesome. You can buy a drink for a friend who isn't there and they can come pick it up later. The mac and cheese is not even from this earth it is so good.
If are a person who reads in bars, this is the bar for you. There isn't a better place to sit in the afternoon with a good book, drink delicious beer, and enjoy the quiet company. Sweet Jesus, I love this bar.
I've been to Libertine a lot. Â For brunch, for dinners and happy hours. Â Probably more so for brunch recently. Â I love the world's greatest breakfast sandwich! Â The mimosas and mojitos are pretty fantastic too, although not bottomless.
I have heard for a while that the food has gone downhill so finally decided to try it out, after a long break, this past Tuesday for 1/2 price dinner night. Â First off the place was busy! Â We got a seat right away, but it didn't take long for the room to fill up and a waiting list to be presented.
I ordered the usual: the steak sandwich. Â I thought it was really good. Â The bread seemed fresh. Â The meat was flavorful with the onions and cheese. Â The horseradish and the au jus make the dish. Â I also had a bite of my friend's mac and cheese, and it lived up to the hype.
It was discovered on my visit that Chef Roe is back at Libertine and slaving away in the kitchen. Â So seems that if Libertine did hit a slump that they are hopefully going to recover fully. Â I was happy one of my favorite bars is still serving up good bar food.
PS - Thursday is pint night.
