Went to the old Lighthouse and it was so, so with the customers. Â However, I have to say the customer service was better. Â I have tried to come into the New Lighthouse, twice. Â Once when it first opened, and yet again today. Â I am not a person who has an opinion when a place first opens, but I doubt I will try again. Â I live in the area and I try to give a business every chance, but when you can not get service nor a nod or hello, that is not a place I am willing to spend my money or my time. Â In this day and age when money is tight. I choose to spend my money where I am at least greeted.
Review Source:This place has really changed! The crowd is super low key, they all seem to be watching sports. There is TV's everywhere. Not really my thing until football season. Anyways I went there with my husband and I had the burger he had the sirloin with a baked potato.
They serve the steak on a stonegrill, it smelled so good and omg the taste. I'm pretty sure I haven't tried something that good in awhile. The steak also came with a baked potato and they have a potato bar where you can fill er up!
I got the burger, it almost reminded me of an in and out burger but better, if that is possible. It was so good! The fries fresh cut and fried, also very good.
The bartender with the accent is really great, the place was packed and he never seemed flustered or not in control. Also very nice!
Overall I would call The Lighthouse the best kept secret in Des Moines.
One more thing, I tried the fried chicken once too, best I've had in I don't know how long.
This place has great service, amazing food and decent prices.
I used to go here a lot before the new owner and since then I love it even more. The old owner was grumpy as could be and the only reason we went there was for the great bartenders. The new owner I have yet to meet but he turned the bar around in a good way. New paint, booths, chairs, and menu. Our bartender was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed. The new chef went out of his way to cook us dinner, even though the kitchen was closed, and he even came up to us after to make sure everything was okay and asked if we needed anything else. The atmosphere is really calm and its an older crowd. There was zero obnoxious drunk people and no fights.
