I wanted a light dinner close to my hotel. I preferred seafood over a big steak that night.
Decor: very roomy, open and modern.
Staff: Attentive, it was kinda dead and I sat by the bar but the server and bartender were very attentive and helpful.
Food: I had the Black Orchid Ahi, nicely prepared and the mustard sauce was perfect to contrast the sweet coleslaw. I also had the potstickers, nicely pan fried with a sweet sauce.
I would say if you want to save on $$ get appetizer of the Ahi vs getting the same amount of ahi plus rice for double the price.
I shall return
I'm giving Ling and Louie's 3 stars only because the sake was good. Â The edamame was overcooked. Â I ordered a chicken curry dish, it was gravy like and poured all over the rice. I really didn't like the taste of the dish. Â I also would have preferred the rice on the side like my friend received his with his skillet dish. Â Then I would have at least eaten the rice and been satisfied. Â The beef skillet dish was bland. Â The service was good. Â The music was weird. Â I am on the fence if I'll give it another shot.
Review Source:I've been here twice now, both times before or after a show at the Improv. The food is pretty great. I seem to have a crazy tough time deciding what to order each time since there are so many yummy sounding options. The first time I got the Buddha's feast and the second time I got wango mango chicken. Both were very satisfying and tasty.
I also like that they have items prices for most budgets. You can find some pretty great things for less than $10.
Service has always been pretty good. This is a solid option if you're doing something in Northfield!
On our most recent visit we had the lettuce wraps and the seared ahi. Â Both were okay.....the biggest issue was service. Â We sat in the bar and everything seemed to take a very long time. Â We got our own water, napkins, flatware from other tables, etc.
Management did comp part of our ticket - which was appreciated. Â We like the ambience and would like them to succeed. Â However, they need to address the quality of service.
I sat in the bar and ordered appetizers. Â The server seemed disappointed that I wasn't interested in ordering a full meal. Â If I can sense that desperation in the servers, maybe they should schedule less help so the customer doesnt see that. ;-)
Beers were fine, but choice was somewhat pedestrian.
I would say the over all experience was ok. Â There were high points and low points to my visit this evening.
Lets start with the high points:
Pear Martini was yummy. Â I am not usually a Martini person but this was really good. Â A little more pear flavor and perhaps a slice of pear in the drink would have been preferred to the cherry in it, but still good. Â
Louie's Loaded Nachos
These were pretty good, the chicken used in them was wonderful. Â The tomatoes were a little odd tasting in them, I think it's just a bad season for tomatoes. Â Not a very big portion, but good enough for 2 people with obviously still room for dinner and dessert.
Bacon Bourbon Cookie Sundae
This was way too good once we actually got something to eat it with. Â I saw a picture of it on their site so I had to try it. Â Could have used the same amount of bananas as were pictured , they must have been running short this evening. Â The peppermint bourbon was a nice surprise as I had never had it before. Â I would recommend this so save room.
The low points:
They seemed to be a bit understaffed this evening. Â Brittney was our waitress and she was wonderful but I did notice others looking for someone for assistance several times. Â
For an entree I ordered Pork Fried Rice. Â The pork tenderloin they use was an interesting change as they consider this Asian Fusion. It was cut into medallions and laid atop the rice itself. Â They were more then happy to make it for me without eggs as I am allergic. Â The unwelcome surprise in my fried rice was mushrooms. Â Just not supposed to be there and unfortunately the menu description and our waitress did not mention them. Â It wasn't terrible, I am just not a big fan of mushrooms. Â Also it did seem a little bland, perhaps a little white pepper would have done the trick.
Dessert was delivered and it looked great, unfortunately we had to ask for something to eat it with. Â We were left with this wonderful dessert but no silverware. being who I am of course I had a finger in the whipped cream at a moments notice. Â Brittney to the rescue again. Â She really was sweet and hard working. Â
I wasn't overly impressed with the place in general. Â I may go back if I am in the area and don't want to go to any of the other places available there but I won't be making a special trip.
I was visiting Denver and a group of friends (10+) wanted to get together to hang out. Â Someone suggested that we go to Ling and Louie's Asian Bar and Grill. Â This restaurant is very similar in concept to a P.F. Chengs restaurant.
The restaurant has nice decor and quite an extensive menu (over 30 items). Â I ordered the
Evil Jungle Chicken Prince dish. Â This was the dish that made Ling famous! Â Tender sliced chicken wok'd with fresh vegetables, Thai basil, and mint in Ling's signature peanut-red curry sauce.
Let's just cut to the chase - the food had a really good concept, but was executed pretty poorly. Â It was a Westernized style Thai red curry stir fry dish. Â The dish was salty and had little to no flavor. Â I ended up taking three bites of my food, and ended up throwing the rest of the food away. Â Another note - about 50% of the people at my table ended up throwing their food away as well, as it had no flavor.
The waitress was really nice and tried her hardest to provide a great experience. Â However, she only visited the table 3 times in a 1.5 hr dining experience. Â We ended up having to ask for silverware, water, extra napkins, and to order additional alcoholic beverages. Â The restaurant was not full, as it was a Wednesday night.
I'll probably pass on this restaurant in the future. Â Nice concept, but I think that they need to do food quality control checks.
Food Grade: Â D
Service Grade: Â C+
Worth the Money Grade: Â C
Overall Impression: Â D
I visited Ling and Louie's last night. Â Upon walking in, I was seated immediately and I left a name with both of the hostesses for the rest of my party when they arrived. Â I was seated next to a wall of running water. Â I kept getting splashed with little droplets throughout my stay, which drove me nuts. Â When my party arrived, they said they gave the hostess my name at the door and she looked at them blankly and didn't know what they were talking about. Â They came and found me on their own.
To start out, we split the lettuce wraps and pot stickers. Â The lettuce wraps were OK. Â They seemed dry and under-seasoned. Â The pot stickers were under-cooked and "doughey." Â So far, we all weren't very impressed. Â One of the people in my group ordered a couple of different signature cocktails from the bar. Â I tried them both. Â They were, how do I put this? Â Weird. Â Their menu also offered fresh limeade. Â I LOVE limeade so I ordered a strawberry limeade. Â It tasted like syrup. Â It did not taste fresh at all and it was kind of gross. Â I sent it back and got a regular limeade instead as our server told us the regular limeade tasted better. Â It was better, but still didn't taste fresh. Â If I didn't know any better, I think when they said "fresh" on their menu, it meant that the over processed lime syrup was freshly pumped into some water before coming to your table. Â Needless to say, I didn't finish my drink. Â I stuck with water.
For our entree's, we split the Sizzling Surf & Turf Platter, the Thai Mussel Bowl and the Wango Mango Chicken. Â The steak on the surf & turf platter was tough and chewy. Â The shrimp and veggies were cooked and seasoned nicely, but the steak ruined it. Â It was also a pretty small portion for the price. Â The wasabi mashed potatoes did not have much wasabi and just tasted like dry mashed potatoes. Â The mussels actually weren't too bad, however as we each started pulling mussels out of the broth, a lot of the shells were empty. Â Seriously? Â It felt like a rip-off. Â The garlic parmesean bread that came with the mussels tasted good, but it did not go with the dish. Â It was a very strange combination. Â The chicken was dry and way too sweet. Â Overall, it was pretty disappointing. Â I don't have any plans to come back.
Bad.
Bad.
Bad.
A real stinker.
I didn't get sick from their food, but I should have walked out after being left to stand at the front entrance for 5 minutes while employees loitered by. Big mistake. Had to ask for my drink 3 times; small portions for the price. Cold food... well, at least mine was cold (it wasn't supposed to be). My date's came on a cast iron plate so his was nice and toasty. Would not eat here again, we weren't even inclined to stay for the happy hour with such terrible service.
Yup only two stars. Â If it wasn't for my first time, it would be a one for sure! Â The first time I went was with my sister. I don't know what she ordered, but my orange peel chicken was ok but not worth the price. Â Second time I went was with my dad and I promised it was good. I lost credibility with dining after this experience! Â When we first entered it looked empty. We stood there for 5 minutes until someone came and she seemed like she doesn't like her job to say the least. After waiting another few minutes at our table, our waitress decided to come and brought menus.apparently the owners like lazy, slow employees because she was just like the hostess. Â When she came back we ordered Thai lettuce wraps, pad thai, and he ordered some chicken princess of some sort. Â When he ordered he asked for NO peanuts. So the waitress asks ....
"well don't you want a little bit?"
"no, I don't like peanuts"
"peanuts give the dish a whole new dimension to the dish."
"no peanuts"
She was really rude about it to say the least.
The first thing to come was the lettuce wraps. Â They were okay, but not worth the price! The chicken was salty amd it looked like my dogs ceasar meals! Â And they used head lettuce which makes it hard because when your holding it, it breaks apart so you get chicken amd sauce everywhere!
My pad thai was terrible! The best way I can describe the flavor is like eating spicy ramen. You get all the veggies, but the spice they use is about 1/5 of the packet making it lack a whole lotta flavor!
Do yourself a favor and do NOT go here! If you want quality Asian food, drive 15 minutes and go to federal. You will not regret it!
Update:
this place is still awesome! With the patio now open, it's the perfect place to grab a bite and people watch, while soaking up the vitamin D. I had the pleasure of experiencing the L&L patio this past weekend and loved it! Ps. happy hour is all day on the patio!
ps. drinks are still damn cheap, along with awesome food options and killer staff :)
We waited for a hostess for about 5 minutes and I almost walked out but I had 3 hungry preteens with me and we already tried to eat at Marcos pizza down the way and no one greeted us there either. Just as we were about to turn around and leave, the hostess greeted us and seated us.
Our server was eh. She was nice but seemed kinda out of it. Like she really didn't care to be there. Brought our drinks then said she was going to bring us straws but never did till I asked her for them. Â The calamari was good. The rest of the food was really salty! Even for me! And I'm a saltaholic! Â This makes me sad cause I was just expecting better. The booth seats sit really low and for us shorties 5'5" and under it was kinda difficult to reach and serve our food.
Eh.......
Long and Louie's. Wow!!! How to start. I was one of their first and loyal customers. I always went there and ate. I loved the atmosphere and service!!
Unfortunate for them, management changed and so did everything else. I have eaten there a couple of times lately and have found various objects in my entrees. The service is horrible and it's rare if you even get another drink or refill.
It used to be fresh food with fresh wait staff. Now however it is dangerous food with incompetent wait staff. I wonder what happened to the tall guy and why he left. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing and kept the place lively. It is sad when you enjoy something and then it all changes. Wish my husband and I could find the young man that always took care of us. He obviously knew something that we didn't. Good luck to long and Louies. You seem to have lost a lot of your ummmph!!!
So I gave them another chance. Â The fiance` and I were dressed for a date night with no idea where to go. Â I mentioned that this place had good drinks and appetizers, so we decided to venture out.
Previously when I had been sat at this particular establishment, it was in the cozy area with the high-backed booths. Â It was almost worth being ignored in that area because it was so secluded. Â This time? Â Seated in the very front of the restaurant next to three booths full of families. Â Not just families--people with SEVERAL children who were throwing food on the floor, scarfing food loudly, and were generally being disgusting. Â As you can imagine, he and I were pretty insulted, but assumed that we were over there because of a lack of tables or seating selection...or something. Â Who knows.
I told him that our paper menus weren't there when I'd been the previous time, and he told me that maybe we should have been given crayons to color on it. Â I rolled my eyes at him and tried to be hopeful about the rest of the meal.
We were sorely disappointed. Â It took forever for a waitress to come over to even get our drink order, much less bring back the drinks (presumably because of the children flinging food and spilling their drinks around us). Â The one cocktail I had could have turned into 3 or 4 had the service been better. Â The food was pretty good. Â Not great, as it was the first time I'd gone, but pretty good. Â Everything else, though, was miserable. Â I couldn't wait to pay my check and leave.
To recap: Â The only way I will get roped into going back to this establishment is if it's a special event for a friend. Â I'm all about three strikes and you're out...but the second strike was too much to bear.
It's a chain and it's in stapleton - it is what it is. But it does have happy hour till 6:30 on sunday - woot woot!
Patio was nice, although right beside the kiddy fountain.
Staff is usually pretty friendly.
We like to do the spicy tuna roll and a lemon grass wheat.
I've had the ahi tuna salad with terrible tuna - so i shy away from trying that again.
The crab wontons are kinda icky - skip those.
But there are plenty of yummies on the menu to enjoy!
California has spread its tentacles and reached Denver or vice versa. Â Does it really even matter at this point? Â Ate here once in Irvine, CA and it was unmemorable. Â So unmemorable I had forgotten the name and
mistakenly ate here again years later in Denver, CO. Evil Jungle Princess Chicken is what refreshed my memory. Quite a name for an entrée. Too bad it doesn't remotely live up to its name.
Quick place to eat before the movies in Stapleton.
Walked in around 6 didn't have to wait for a table.
The server was nice. Â
The atmosphere of the place is modern Asian fusion but we ate on paper menus and the servers wore tshirts. Â I dig it.
The menu is what caught my eye while dining here. Â From Asian inspired salads, pizzas, traditional pad thai, rolls, edamame to rice dishes, this place had it all.
The service was quick and for dinner, the prices were mostly less than $10 a plate. Â
I got the ahi tuna lettuce wraps. Â The tuna were big chunks but they were seared too long. Â It was full of sweet but salty flavor though. Â The lettuce cups were also fresh. Â But nothing to write home about. Â I think I've had this "chain tasting" sort of lettuce cups before. Â
I have to remember that this is chain style eating. Â Would I be back again? Â Not for dining...MAYBE for a quick bite to eat before the movies.
Oh Ling and Louie's... what has happened to you? Â
We used to meet up with several friends here quite a bit and enjoyed your food quite much. Something has happened though. Â What? Â Your food now sucks! Gross! What did you change and why? Â For that, you've lost us as customers and I tell others the same. I hope you find your way back someday... Â but how would I know, as I can't even fathom TRYING to gag your food down again to see if you are back...
I am certainly a fan of Ling and Louie's and it's time I reviewed it. Â Chain or not, I always enjoy lunch, dinner or happy hour here, so why let the surburban-mall stigma change my mind? Let's break this down nice and neat.
Location/Ambiance -- Thanks to Northfield's mainstreet set-up, Ling and Louie's has one of the best patios in the area. Â And for that reason it is a go-to location from May -October. Â Indoors is warm and inviting and I like the way the seating areas are broken up a bit and wrap around the bar making everything feel a little cozier.
Keep in mind, this part of town can be windy, so even on sunny days the patio may not work out. Â Also note that the sun hits the patio late day so bring the sunglasses but it's worth a few sweat beads on the brow if you ask me.
And a quick note about Northfield -- it's a surprisingly convenient location to meet up if you're from east Denver and/or north Aurora. Â Don't overlook it and it's many great options for dinner and a movie. Â
Service -
The bartenders that I've seen regularly (a guy and a gal) are solid and also friendly. Â I also have a favorite server - I'm 95% positive her name is Heidi, but there's about a 5% chance it's Becca (long story). Â She is very nice, helpful and just the right amount of chit-chat. Â She's always got great recommendations for what's coming out of the kitchen that night and even with large groups who are hyperactively enjoying the happy hour beverages she never seems less that thrilled to be your server.
But then....there are the hostesses (and this is a definite plural because for some reason there are almost always 3 or 4 on duty). Â A few have been pleasant and helpful, a few have been confused and nervous and a few have been condescending and twitty. Â On a recent visit, despite a reservation for the patio which had been twice confirmed, on arrival the hostess told me it was hot outside so she set the table up inside. Â When I asked to move back outside she pointed out that the patio is really popular so most of the tables were full but they would try. Â (we did get our patio table after only a few minutes extra wait) Â
Food -
Thus far I've never been disappointed with the food and I've made a point to try a variety of things on the menu. Â The flatbread appetizer with filet is particularly good for a snack, the crab cheese wontons are delicious and the Evil Jungle Princess is my favorite entree.
Certainly it's Asian fusion for the mainstream diner, but I think with a little thought and consideration most anyone could find something that measures up to particular preferences.
Also be sure to check out their beer selection - Â some really good microbrew options are available.
So, good location, good service (mostly) and good food -- seems like a winner to me!
After writing my previous review (extremely negative) I got a nice response from the restaurant manager requesting to send me a gift certificate so I could try this place out again. Â I'll add a star just for that.
My husband and I went back, and were successfully served. Â The food was OK; we had gyoza as an appetizer, then I got the lettuce wraps and he got a seafood combo dish. Â Everything was good, but there was a small piece of plastic wrap in the lettuce under the gyoza that we didn't notice until we'd eaten all the dumplings. Â The service was better than the last time, but it was still pretty slow. Â Despite the food being pretty good for the price, I probably won't eat here again. Â It's not terrible, but I can't increase the rating to more than two stars.
Wow! Â What a wonderful surprise! Â The menu is amazing. Â So many different options to choose from. The speciality drinks are also unique. Â I had a Golden Pineapple which was to die for! Â OMG. Â
Great service and food at a moderate price. Â Friendly servers and bartenders, too! Â Can't wait to come back!
This is the second location I have been to in Denver, this one being within a stones through of my place. Â Recommended this place to a friend of mine for dinner, and dinner we did. Â We walked right into the place at 8pm and were sat immediately in a booth. Â
Atmosphere was nice and service was excellent. Â I ordered the Jungle Princess dish with Chicken which had yummy spicy sauce coating the entire thing with tons of veggies and brown rice (my choice). Â My friend had the Kung Pow Beef which looked amazing. Â Overall a great place for some Asian Fusion cuisine and great conversation. Â This place offers great flavor in their dishes from mild to very spicy.
I would recommend a go if you have never been. Â Couldn't go over 3 stars for a chain. Â :)
So... if you've done and know PF Chang's, then think of this place as a more random looking, sports bar version. And keep in mind, it's a "franchise", so I'm assuming that while some locations may be company owned, most are run by franchisees. (Their website shows 5 locations with one soon to open)
To borrow and paraphrase L 'n L's own explanation......
Ling and Louie's is a contemporary concept, Asian Fusian. I'd have to agree with their website, and say that this young franchise, with two locations in Denver, and a few more locations scattered in the Southwest, appeals to today's diners looking for a fresh twist on the American-Asian culinary mash-up with an emphasis on premium ingredients, and unparalleled service in a casual, unpretentious atmosphere. A frozen Mai Tai from the bar doesn't hurt either! It appealed to me, and I liked it.
We did the ahi tuna appetizer, which is like, or is, a sashimi platter... the mussels in this interesting soup-sauce, and the chicken wraps. Each dish had a sauce that made the protein more than you'd expect it could be. In fact, they do a good job kicking up the "flavor value" of many of their dishes by virtue, in my opinion, of their unique sauces and flavorings.
This particular location is in the Northfield Village Shopping area, (my own name for the "Downtown Disneyland" setup you see at "Victorian Gardens" in Rancho Cucamonga.) I have no problem returning, because the location is "easy-peesy" to get to, and the food, and flavors, are as interesting and good as my old time fav'..... PF's.
If you'd like to try the other locations, I suggest you check out their website and menu pages... then you'll get through the "discovery phase - shock and awe" quicker, and be able to make some menu decisions before sitting down. I'm looking forward to trying their other locations myself, as I travel throughout the Western region.
The food is too ordinary and even the ones that were marked spicy were really really bland .. I am highly disappointed, specially with the taste .. Price range is average .. We enjoyed the exuberance of Downtown as we were sitting in Patio. There were these Vegetable Spring Roll and that was the only thing that I could really appreciate in terms of Taste ..
I would probable not go there again and will not really recommend it to someone who loves spicy food .. Service is okay ..
My initial thoughts on L&L:
Asian Fusion food. Â Hmmmmmmmmm......Not a fan. Â
Secondly, L&L is a chain. Â Keep your expectations low. Â
However, since I got a FANTASTIC deal for L&L through http://weeklyplus.com, Â I wanted to give it a try. Â The website offers discounted deals for food, services, and products, so Momma didn't raise no fool. Â If I can save $$$$ on food, I will eat and try any place. Â
When it comes to the menu, L and L does offer a wide variety of dishes, with interesting twists of some standards.
On this particular evening, the Veggie spring rolls proved to be delicious and delectable. Â The egg roll type of wrap teemed with veggies, noodles, and just enough crunchiness to create a wonderful symphony of flavors and textures. Â Add in the hoisin/sesame sauce, and a second lime/cilantro/honey sauce, and the taste buds explode.
My main entree, however, only came across as adequate. Â First and foremost, I ordered a Lo Mein dish, and L&L used Yakisoba noodles. Â Didn't work for me, but I am a traditionalist when it comes to Lo Mein. Â I like thicker egg noodles. Â The overall taste let me down, and the uninspiring fusion of Japanese noodles to this Chinese dish left me hungry and wanting McD's french fries. Â :-) Â
The wok stir fried vegetables I ordered as a side also tasted alright. Â I felt it needed more garlic and the use of high quality soy sauce. Â If you have never invested in a quality soy sauce at your local Asian market, I advise you do. Â The depth in flavor will amaze you. Â Anyhow, the way L&L makes this side dish needs improvement to be great, but as a side for dinner, it will sustain you, just not blow you away. Â
My GF's dish was a Sizzling Beef dish. Â Wonderful strips of Filet Mignon cooked over a sizzling hot plate, with asparagus spears. Â She enjoyed that dish very much. Â I sampled a piece of the exquisite beef, and I enjoyed it. Â
But seriously, Filet Mignon would be hard to screw up....Even for an Asian Fusion place. Â
For the price, you may find yourself unfulfilled. Â I can list a handful of Chinese, Japanese, or Thai restaurants that surpasses L&L for food quality, and not break the bank. Â
Not my first choice for the Stapleton Area.
HOWEVER- They have a molten Chocolate cake and a cheesecake/banana egg roll that I must come back to sample at a later date.
This was our third or fourth time at this location and what a disappointment. Horrible service, the waiter even had to come back to our table and re-ask what we ordered-he had forgotten. No offers or suggestions, he barely spoke to us. And the food, I would expect more than miniature pieces of canned pineapple in a sweet & sour dish. And I think they forgot to put the wasabi in the wasabi mashed potatoes, dish was tasteless and bland.
I'll stick to PF Changs if I'm looking for Asian chain food.
I ate here some time ago and am now just getting around to writing a review. Its pretty much standard mall fair pan-asian food in a very cute location. The interior is charming but I bet it would be better for just drinks.
The food isn't bad, its just mediocre. The service was OK but it seemed like some of the wait staff was hanging out drinking and that was the focus for the other waiters. Oh well.
This is pretty much your average American, Asian Bar and Grill, chain restaurant. Â There is nothing really GREAT about this place. Â
I actually reviewed this place about a while ago, but felt that I was a bit unfair to the place. Â Like I said earlier, it is your average, American, Asian Bar and Grill, so, I guess in my opinion, that being said.. You're not going to get really authentic Asian food.. They have their own spin on it. Â Now, personally, I am not a big fan of this.. I've been spoiled with some of the best Asian food.. Â If you're looking for over the top, delicious, authentic Asian food, you won't find it here, but if you are looking for a lunch venue and in the area.. I guess I wouldn't rule this place out 100%. Â The prices are decent, and the lunch portion (the only portion I've experienced) is a big portion!
I had the orange peel chicken with brown rice on the lunch menu. Â Now, normally I wouldn't have gone with that choice, but we were chatting a lot, and it was totally one of those quick look to the menu and order the first thing you see decisions. Â I didn't care for it so much. Â It was mostly rice, some chicken, and some small bits of overcooked bok choy! Â It just seemed slopped together. Â
I can't say anything about the service in this place.. it was all average, and nothing more. Â You know how it goes, you get seated by a host, the server is nice, takes your order, tells you the specials, gives your food, fills up your water.. and that's about it. Â At the same, I really cannot stand when you go to a restaurant, like a chain restaurant, or similar and the server talks and talks and talks. Â I also hate being bothered by server more than enough times.. Really.. Â So, I guess, overall.. the service was fine.
I know I'll end up coming back here sometime, I work down the street from the mall and I think it's important to go back to places after having a "just-ok" experience. Â May as well give it another chance.
Went there with my brother, his wife and a friend of theirs. Â It was a great place. Â Happy hour there is cheap, entrees in that 12-18 range. Â Nothing is overpriced. Â Very decent Asian casual. Â Better food than a PF Chang and better atmosphere.
Our server was Liz, she is fantastic. Â She took great care with of us. Â She is very knowledgeable and attentive. Â She made great suggestions that complimented our meal.
The restaurant as well as the shopping area was dead. Â Surprising for a Friday evening. Â Maybe 100 diners between 6 and 830 when we left. Â Maybe less. Â
Patio looked great. Â Hopefully the entire area will pick up.
This is a tough one - while it's not a great place by any means, I'm sure I'll be back again.
Each of the three times I've been here, someone I was with ordered something fried - and it always tasted the same - like oil-saturated breading wrapped around some meat. Last time we had to send it back it was so intolerable.
I do enjoy the happy hour menu a lot and there are good deals to be had - last Saturday eve on the patio we were told it was happy hour all night (not sure if it was the patio, the day or what). I've also had the sizzling skillets here twice and they've always tasted pretty good, depite the splatters of oil that film everything when they bring it to your table.
Bottom line, don't expect great, expect okay - and dfeinitely don't order anything fried - even if it's listed as a house specialty or your server tells you it's really good.
So its not often we get to this side of town but we were doing some shopping so we stopped in for dinner. It was about 8, my bad impression started at the door. All the hosts were talking to each other and did not even greet us till I coughed...which was greeted by a dirty look from the host.
We were seated and our server was nice and the Kirin and hot sake for $6.50 seemed like a great deal, but if you like sake don't get this the sake is not good at all.
So I ordered Crab cheese wontons and Lettuce wraps and my boyfriend ordered the Pad Thai....We got our food and the I did not like the Wontons so I sent them back and ordered some Edameme. We waited over 20mins of them and they never came...I asked our server he said they would be right out...another 20min still no food. So I let him know we did not want them. I was explained to him that I did not understand what was taken so long and that we would like the check....
He then brought us the check and proceeded to tell us how he was working with a hurt back and how he had a baby on the way and he was in school...a plea for tips...even thought we had horrible service...I felt this was a bit tacky...
We will not dine there again!
My wife and I were undecided about where to eat in Northfield @ Stapleton and we finally decided on LIng and Louie's and we weren't disappointed. Â The service was wonderful and quite helpful and the food was real and fresh, no fake stuff here.
We started with the crab wontons and potstickers. The crab wontons were filled with real blue crab meat. No fillers or overloaded with cream cheese. The sauce that is served with the potstickers is wonderful and brought out the flavor of the potstickers.
For the main course, my wife had the Evil Jungle Princess Chicken and I had the Ling's Sweet and Sour Pork. Â Both entrees were delicious. Everything was fresh about these meals and the peanut sauce on the chicken dish was delicious.
Now the menu has warnings for spicy items. The Evil Jungle Princess Chicken is listed as a spicy dish and it is not. There is no warning for the Sweet and Sour Pork. Â Well the chicken dish is not real spicy at all. In fact, the sweet and sour pork is more spicy than the chicken.
Overall a great place, good atmosphere, and great service. Definitely worth a visit.
OK- its a chain of two- but it feels like a chain. The good parto of a chain is consistency and L&Ls always delivers. The ugly truth is this...mama still loves a hot sake and a big ol' Kirin and you can get one here for $6.50.
PLUS.. Social services called and you can also feed small children protein (disguised edamame and/or a bento box) in an interesting way. My three yr. old regularly requests the bento box from this joint.
Bottom line- food is decent in taste and price (but certainly not mom and pop Asian authentic)
If you want to go out to eat around Stapleton/Lowry/Mayfair/Montclair and you have a human 4 ft. or shorter, this may be a ride you can hold up your arms and squeal. The service is incredibly accommodating for those of us who have small ones.
Did I mention big Kirin?
Sorry everyone, this place is NOT good! We had a party of three, I ordered Pad Thai, my buddy ate Dan Dan Noodles, and the lady had Walnut Crusted Chicken. The Dan Dan Noodles were not up to par. The Walnut Crusted Chicken was dry and bland. The Pad Thai was the worst I've ever had. For the first time, in a very long time, I returned my food and did not order anything else.
The atmosphere is nice and the waterfall is pretty cool. The food was horrible! The server was not very good either!
I was more than pleasantly surprised by the lunch Pad Thai I ordered at Ling and Louie's Asian Bar and Grill. It had to be the most flavorful version I have had to date. There was a lot of tasty broth under the noodles, chicken, shrimp, and sprouts. It had a touch of heat, a lot of spicy goodness, and was a nice combination of savory and sweet. I did end up with quite a few broth spots on my shirt, but I was too intent on eating to notice.
I will go back even though it is not that convenient.
Northfield Stapleton's Asian Fusion establishment, a franchise of a California restaurant, and you can taste the California in the food!
That food is made with very fresh ingredients, and most everything on the menu is available with tofu instead of chicken, seafood or beef. Â All the entrees I've tried have been pretty good, and I can particularly recommend the Evil Jungle Princess dish.
But we tried the Long Life Chicken Noodle Soup, and it was not edible. We love spicy food, I'm totally serious, I know it's a subjective thing, but you've gotta believe me, this soup was WAY too hot. I guess the Long Life refers to the soup itself, not the health benefits it gives you. I also tried their signature Tom Kha Gai soup, which was very flavorful, but very rich, so I couldn't finish the bowl.
Fat Tire, Sunshine Wheat, Guiness, Sapporo and Kirin Ichiban on tap. But I had the fresh squeezed limeade, and can happily recommend it!
Service is notable. Just the right amount of attention and perfect timing. That and the really cool water feature along the back wall earn this restaurant a solid fourth star.
