I want to like this place, really I do. The food is eh at best and the service, well, I guess you can call it service when they actually pay attention to you. Ever since the place opened, I feel like I get left alone for a long period of time, looking at the waitress with pathetic eyes because all I want is more water.
I've been on a variety of days - from really crowded to barely crowded and it's the same. The sushi/sashimi just tastes like it has been sitting out for a while and is sometimes fishy.
Stayed one night. Seems to may have been an apartments building that has been turned into a "hotel". Our room seemed like a studio with a kitchen, small eating area w table and chairs.
I simply needed a place to crash after the bars.Wasn't looking for 4 or 5 star..just decent, clean, convenient and well priced.I did have concerns but for $90.00 on a Sunday ,located on lascollins- one block walking distance tooffice, the hotel serves it purpose . It was clean, spacious,I would stay again as one nighters or a place to crash if you plan on beong out all the time and not lounging at the hotel during the day.
but it all depends on what you are looking for /what you want(purpose) of the hotel
I went in for a business happy hour meeting. I arrived late and joined the group on the sofas near the bar. Not once did anyone from the staff stop by to ask if I wanted a drink. I went to the bar to order my drink and stood there, and stood there and stood here. When I finally got the attention of the young lady busy eating her skittles and talking to her coworker behind the counter, she seemed too busy to help. She passed me on to another person behind the counter. He prepared my Cosmo and didn't card me. Then he takes my credit card and because it has "check ID" written on the back he decided to card me (although my picture is on the front of the card). I paid for my $12 drink and walked away shacking my head.
I've gone to this hotel/bar before and had a much better experience but my most recent experience was horrible.
The only pro is that the drink was mixed well.
This review pertains to the lobby/bar area. Â I've always been curious about NYLO in Las Colinas since it was near my work building and wanted to try out a boutique hotel bar. Â So I invited some friends for happy hour on a Thursday night (advertised as 'well-heeled Thursdays'). Â The entrance wasn't clearly marked and the lobby area was dark. Â Front-desk folks were friendly and responsive. Â The furnishings were nice and modern. Â
At the bar, we couldn't get seated at the nice U-shaped seats since we didn't have group of 8 people.  We settled for seats at the long table instead, near the kitchen, and somewhat overlooking the nice pool area.  The furniture is modern, funky, and uncomfortable.  There was live music that night, a guy at a keyboard and a female singer provided enjoyable music (but I can't tell you now what she sang). The staff  members are cute and young, but appear to be inexperienced.  We asked for happy hour beer, and instead of bringing beer on tap, she brought beer in bottles (a difference of $3 vs. $6).  I think sushi that night was 50% off, but the portions weren't too big.  The fried calamari with spicy sauce was a hit and worth whatever it cost. my friend ordered the $20 Sangria pitcher and she sent the whole thing back as it tasted completely of slightly flavored ice water.
You can take your drinks out to the pool area with shaded cabanas and they'll give you plastic containers. Â Visually stunning place, service was so-so. Â Beer was served warm. Â The entire bar temperature was a bit warm as well.
We liked how our group of four were able to converse fairly well without having to raise our voices or get distracted by sports TV. Â Will most likely not come back here again since their bar food menu is limited and very pricey (compared to say, Humperdinks, or any other other places in Las Colinas). Â Overall experience is so-so and largely negative.
I couldn't wait to come here and report how much this place has gone down. I use to love it for the ambiance alone and was excited about taking a friend there who was visiting from out of town. Sadly the pool was dirty. The neat seating area with sheer drapes was pushed back against a wall. It was so dark it was abnormal. It just looked a bit run down. The only reason I gave 2 stars is our server was awesome and the drinks were potent. Not sure if management has changed or what but they need to get a grip on the establishment as far as the ambiance. I was very dissapointed.
Review Source:Surprisingly the Sushi is actually quite good. Not quite Blue Fish, but very good.
The atmosphere can be loud, with live music and laughter - which is a good thing. But if you were looking for quiet and intimate, this is not the place.
Service is attentive (at the bar). The Ceasar salad was not that great. Certainly not bad, but not great. And they have some kind of alternative type of crouton that I have never seen in my life and hope never to again. Round, bullet-like things.
Good selection of drinks and wine and beer. Diverse menu.
I was staying in the hotel (great rooms by the way), so that is why I ate and drank here.
almost deserving of 4 stars....
very cool ambiance, trendy, urban - slightly upscale all rolled into one...
I love the depth of this place...- lots of places to sit , lounge and dine....
it's very huge... good for groups - very large booths, making large party dinners very easy...
unfortunately i can't rate the courtyard, because of winter... the linen and patio furniture was not in full swing....
but the pool and fire place looked very inviting. Â
great service...
good sushi
an excellent choice for happy hour! --
Good ambience, modern, trendy... nice lighting, sexy decor. Yes, sexy... :-)
Beautiful courtyard!
Good drinks, they run around $10-$12-ish as expected at a place like this. It's a good pour too so you don't feel like you're being overcharged or anything. Â
Another thing about this place is the location... there isn't much to do right around that area so this is really the place to be if you want a place with a sexy lounge feel to it.
P.S... they have a sushi bar! And it looks really tasty. We had just come from having dinner so I can't really vouch for it but maybe next time.
I'm a pretty regular guy, so when a coworker suggested we meet a colleague at NY Loft for happy hour recently I welcomed the chance at a change of atmosphere.
The decor is really cool - funky is the word that comes to mind. Funky in a good way that is. (Do people even say "funky" any more)?? Grays, blacks, reds, glass brick - even in my boots and jeans I liked the ambience.
The service was attentive. Seems that a coworker had just spent the weekend there and befriended one of the servers in the bar. That is always helpful, and the service we received was quite good as a result.
We had a few glasses of wine. I started with a red, which was way too warm. Switched to riesling and I was just fine. As we began to sweat we were told the AC wasn't working. With temps outside in three digits it got a bit warm. We ordered some sushi rolls which were fresh, tasty, and generous.
We agreed to give them a try again, hopefully with working AC. If you find yourself in Irving/Las Colinas pay them a visit.
BTW, NY Loft is also a boutique hotel. I'm told the rooms are very nicely decorated and a great value. Just FYI.
Finally went to Nylo after a much too long wait considering we live down the street. Â We were there kind of late on a Saturday night so it wasn't packed, which is always a plus. Â The drinks were fantastic and our bartender Chris was fantastic. Â He was very friendly, fast, and made the experience even better. Â Will definitely be going back for a laid back night in a great atmosphere.
Review Source:I've been meaning to write this review for a while, and a while translating to when they first opened since we had the opportunity to come here a few days before the actual live grand opening.
The space itself is trendy. Â From when you walk in and head to the bar, you feel like you are in a trendy, modern, upscale New York establishment. Â The decor is fantastic and we had fun sitting (or trying to sit) in some of the most interesting pieces of furniture on may see.
There was a group of 8+ of us, and we were able to easily find a table comfortable to fit us all...and then some. Â The service was great and the drinks kept coming.
It was a nice day out, and should you go there on a nice day, I would recommend to try to sit outside. Â Their outside areas are gorgeous and just so comfortable looking. Â Due to the size of our group, we felt more comfortable indoors.
I would definitely go back...particularly to see if they were able to keep the space fresh and lively as I have remembered it. Â And this time, I would definitely try the food ;-)
Had a late dinner after flying in from San Francisco. Enjoyed it a lot! Great atmosphere in tune with the loft-style design of the NYLO hotel this is located in. Chicken flatbread had a great combination of BBQ sauce and fresh herb flavor. Steak was cooked nicely and the truffle fries carried just the right hint of truffle. Service was great and attentive, too.
Review Source:Ah Nylo. Â The girl that tried too hard, but in the end was a prude and didn't put out at all. Â
Nylo isn't completely dismissible, and hopefully time will heal the substandard service, the warm bottle of red wine (literally warm on the first pour...we had to ask to ice it down), and the decent but lackluster sushi. Â
Though I'm a bit out of place in a trendy, gray concert-walled mod place like this, I dug the red-grey-white-black decor here. Â The indoor area opens out into a large pool with outdoor seating, which would be very sexy with the right clientele. Â The crowd was....off. Â I think I'm just too old for the "let's wear a mini dress and tried to get laid" crew, but this place will hopefully draw some decent regulars soon. Â Hopefully.
OMG!!!!! This place had the WORST SERVICE ever!!!!!
We went there a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday. She made reservation for dinner about 2 weeks ahead. On the day of the dinner, she called to confirm her reservation and they said everything was okay. When we arrived for dinner, she had a little bit of a problem with them seating us. I guess they couldn't find her name? I didn't completely listen to what was going on. After about 10 minutes, they finally sat us. We were sitting down for almost 20 minutes, and still, no one greeted us. We had to ask another waitress who was going to serve us, and she went to go find him. When he came over, we relized it was the same server who saw us from the beginning, and didn't say anything to us, just gave us a look and walked away.
I ordered the Lobster sushi. That was really good! But besides that, the rest of the entrees that everyone else ordered from the regular menu wasn't good at all. A friend of ours even received his food 15 minutes before everyone else. When everyone's food came, we asked the server for chopsticks and little bowls for the soy sauce to eat with the sushi. He just pointed to the soy sauce on the table. After asking him 3 times, I walked over to the sushi bar and asked the sushi chief for the things we needed. I felt bad because he shouldn't have to do anything like that, but I was also mad about the service our waiter was giving us. Our server even had the nerves of saying he gave us chopsticks on the table, but when I came back, nobody had any!
When we began to pay out, one of our friend had their card swiped twice, while another person didn't even get swiped. (We noticed that when we received our check books back and some of the credit cards and receipts didn't match.)
This server obviously didn't care about us-- and if he wasn't sure of how to do something, he could have asked for help!
I was debating on giving this restaurant 2 stars, but really the only thing I enjoyed was the sushi I ordered. Even some of the other sushi that was ordered wasn't all that good.
If it where not the fact that in Las Colinas there a few places like this I would say spend your money elsewhere. For a quiet drink that offers an upscale decor this is a place to go. If you expect descent service and friendly staff don't go here. I have honeslty tried three times to enjoy NYLO but, each experience has shown the staff is just not anywhere near excellance. The last time really took the cake when, unannounced, they shut off the beautiful fireplaces on the pool deck and said, we are shutting down the patio. All this before midnight. Issues are while NYLO claims to an upscale lounge it functions more like a coffee shop attached to a hotel chain.
Review Source:This review is for the restaurant function of the Loft which is simultaneously situated in the lounge/bar area.  I echo the sentiments of the previous poster who was excited as the prospect of Las Colinas finally obtaining a chic bar/lounge.....a lack of which has been a perpetual lament of mine for many many years.  But on to the review for the food....the menu is an attempt at asian fusion small plate offerings with a limited sushi menu on the side.  We opted to try  a few of the sushi rolls as we were not in for a big meal at the time.  Big mistake, even allowing for the newness of the place the food was just short of awful, the fish was almost warm and the rolls nearly fell apart when handled.....very little flavor to the rolls and what flavor was there was that of fish that was much less than fresh.  So unless I'm feeling brave or I have information that might  indicate they have cleared any start-up hurdles that resulted in some of the worst sushi I've ever had, no more meals here for me.
That said, I would like to comment on the bar.lounge area separate from the restaurant which is very post-moder/art deco/chic with tables that offer bottle service near the bar and tables situated near the back which they call the "library" for the bookshelves which offer seating options and waiter service. Â the bar opens up to the pool area with several cabana canopies and a larger fire pit area. Â The drinks are standard fare with some innovative martini options as you might expect. Â They also offer frequent events with DJs, specially themed nights sponsored by top-shelf liquor purveyors and musical nights.
Bottom line, this place is one of, if not the only swanky/chic bar/lounges in Las Colinas and as such I highly recommend happy hour or after dinner drinks here.....just don't eat here!
At last - a chic place in Las Colinas....NYLO is a brand of upscale loft type hotels that's springing up in metro suburbs around major cities.
The Hotel is not fully opened but their Loft Restaurant and Lounge is under a soft opening and a bunch of us went there on Sat night for pre party drinking.
The Hotel is parked into a corner off of Royal Lane and McArthur.....I live in the area but never noticed this place until a friend of mine told me.....The interior is plush, contemporary, cozy, modish.....I would actually rate it on the same lines of the Living Room at the W......
Due to the soft opening it was kind of slow for a Sat night......the drinks menu was attractive and so was the dinner/appetizer menu.....the Calamari is a must try.....more along the lines of a Chinese Orange Fried batter covering the calamari......
The place also has private rooms, a dance floor, the DJ was jamming good music acoustically well reflected by the audio systems around the whole bar.
For those of you living in the LC area this place is more than worth a try.....I am very excited.....I see some good times ahead at this place :-) And, ofcourse the rooms are affordable which can come in handy as well around 2ish in the morning- HA!!
