I discovered this venue when invited to attend a co-worker's going away party. I'm now hooked on the mussels. This restaurant isn't prominent, so you have to "look" for it. My only complaint is that it's not open until 4:00 and not at all on Sundays. I would definitely like to have the option of eating the mussels for lunch, but alas, it's not to be. I'd also like to bring my 11 year old.
Review Source:I walked up to the bar where Bobby, the barkeep, greeted me heartily. He tells me the new location is almost done and it's grand opening, to the general public, should happen in early to mid November. The downtown location will be open for at least a few months and maybe longer if it doesn't detract from the new dig's business.
The menu is short but loaded with temptations for a hungry guy.
I decided upon a Gilgaburger; an oversized Toasted English Muffin with a fresh ground, highly seasoned Patty with Chipotle Ketchup, White Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Romaine Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickled Red Onions and Dill Chips. A fried Egg can be added for an additional buck. (I passed on this.) This tasty Burger comes with a mountain of hand-cut, skins-on Russet Fries. Malt Vinegar was provided upon request. I paired this feast with Fresh Prince Triple IPA.
Stop in and try a Gilgaburger or any of their other menu items. I believe the kitchen is still run by the talented folks who brought us the Continental Delight food truck, so good eats are pretty much assured.
Tell 'em Chuck sent you!
I really enjoy this little Lounge. Nice beers, yummy ciders. I've gone when there was a DNC watch party and also for open mic night, which I believe is supposed to be on the 2nd and 4th tuesday (yay!). I've only eaten the Cuban sandwich so far because it's SO good and I can't decide on trying anything else. But I vow to next time I go! The folks that work here are smiley. It's easier to go up to the bar to order food or drink though there are people that will come to you. (It seems like all service in Salem kinda ignore you unless you seriously flag them down. is it just me?)
Review Source:Okay. Lookie here! The place is harder to find than rain in Oregon in the summer. That gives it some mystery, some appeal. The cooking is terrific. Nothing straight forward here, ALL excellent. The ambiance is DARK, and gas-fumey. Let's hope the new place is better.
The beer is only OKAY, and that kills it for me. I guess if your underwear matches the color of your Ralph Lauren pony you can make ANY place look yummy. Yeah, you can do that!
Oh, okay, I'll go back, but no Filberts in my beer.
Been here a couple of times now and will say that I enjoy coming here. I got introduced to Gilgamesh Beer the several times I've come down to Church St. Pizza for a meal. What caught my taste buds was their Mega Mamba and I've been hooked since. They have some very original brews that I continue to be impressed by so one night I was asked to come and hangout with the owner of Church St. Pizza and we went here for a beer. What I really enjoy about this place is that they have live music on the weekends and for Salem it appears to be a pretty happening place to be! I was served by Laura one of the bartenders there and I feel she makes that place! Her level of customer service and follow up is by far top notch. Very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable when it comes to beer. Â My couple experiences with her is what will make me a regular here! Â The best part of this place is if I don't make it on time for a Nice Bun from Church St. Pizza I can come here and partake in them as well.
Overall, I really enjoy this place. Fun atmosphere, great service, and live music is what makes this place such a great place to be in Salem!
So, this was intended to be my first stop on a night of bar crawling for my birthday last Friday. Â Unfortunately, it just turned out to be a party of two. Â (Thanks for the moral support James K.!) Â Fortunately, The Lounge was FREAKEN AWESOME!
It was very crowded at about 7:30pm when we arrived, with no seating available so we took up residence at the bar. Â I asked a few questions about the various taps and was offered samples of each. Â My first taste was of DJ Jazzy Heff, and I should have just stopped there. Â Why question perfection? Â But I did have the other sips, none of them even came close to the Heff. Â Jasmine infused Hefeweizen? Â Oh, that was good. Â My friend had a soda, as he was DDing for me that night.
The bartenders were friendly and helpful, and neither of us ran low on drinks. Â Even with a completely full room, they were able to spend a few seconds here and there asking if I liked the Heff and how we were doing.
The Lounge is not really small, but not large either. Â It has two bar areas, one near the taps and another floating on large kegs between the seating. Â There was a good selection of different sized tables, from party sized to intimate dining. Â I liked the couches set up in a lounge style, but they never seemed to be free.
When a table opened up, we migrated over and sat down. Â We were both a little hungry at this point, so we ordered the Spring Rolls and French Fries. Â The rolls themselves were good, but the dipping sauce was a little too sour for my taste. Â The fries were fries, nice and hot and served with ranch. Â Between the two orders, we took the edge off the belly growls.
Two bands were on the schedule and the first was pretty mellow, it was was very nice to have music in the background and still be able to carry on a conversation without yelling. Â Once the second started playing, and we were no longer able to hear each other, we left.
There is no question on whether I'm coming back or not, it's only a matter of when.
