Better than most sports bars... I guess! Â I've noted in other reviews that I'm not keen on sports bars, but I must say, although not thoroughly impressed the various times I've visited, it's a couple of rungs better than your typical TV-swamped pubs! The beers are good and cold - can't mess that up, but some of their eats fall short. I was especially unimpressed with their wings - for some reason, they use far too much vinegar for my taste. As for other offerings, I can categorize much of it as standard fare. Like other similar venues, it's very noisy during peak hours (one of my issues with sports bars). But if you do like sports bars, this local watering hole beats a lot of the competition. Recommended to the die-hard sports/eats/scream crowd!
Review Source:Just had a bad experience here. Asked for sliders with nothing on them... They came out with the mayo mustard sauce. Sent it back and they returned the same burgers wih a poor job of trying to wipe it off. Still had that sauce all over it! Â Won't be back...shows me the low quality with which they run their kitchen.
Review Source:This place is ok. Â I have only been here for work events, and we always seem to book the smoking area. Â It does have it's own ventilation, but when more than a few people are smoking back there, it doesn't matter. Â The drink prices are what you would expect, and the food is standard bar fare. Â Most of the video games have burned in screens and aren't worth wasting your money on.
Review Source:I give this place four stars. It is a great neighborhood experience. Â prime rib was delicious. Â service was impeccable. Â manager actually came to table to see how things were. when was the last time you had that happen? Â i have not even seen this at the capitol grille the last few times we went. Â if you live in area and are debating between this and outback there is no longer a contest. Â skip the chain and go here. Â i asked and they say they have prime rib every saturday.
Review Source:This is a decent local watering hole that seems to offer a little bit for everyone. Â It's nice to have an option that doesn't require a drive to Arlington or DC. Â
-Large bar area
-Dance area
-Pool table
-Air hockey table
-Flat screens
-Decent bar food- Tried the grilled chicken sandwich
-Bar games... Regular not Adult Photo Hunt
-Personable bartenders
What I liked most was that there weren't any end of the night fights. Â (I hate that.) The crowd was pretty chill, peaceful and when I was there seemed to just be intent on having a good time. Â There also doesn't appear to be a dress code, but hey it's a bar.
More like 3.5 stars. This casual restaurant is a lot better than it used to be. I have noticed a nice renovation to the interior and more attention to customers from the management. The food has never impressed me but is consistently fairly good. I like that I can eat a quiet meal in the dining room, which is separate from the sports theater and games (which I have never participated in so cannot comment upon). The seating hostesses, waiters, and the manager all seemed concerned about pleasing customers. I just wish that the foods made me go "mmm". The menu has starters (e.g., artichoke dip, calamari, soups, salads), entrees (e.g., burgers and sandwiches, beef, chicken, fresh fish), and a few desserts. You are making good  progress, management, so keep going!
Review Source:This place is pretty nice. Â The staff was friendly and accommodating. They seat you quickly and are attentive. Â The food was good but I was surprise that they don't have a signature burger, only a "build your own" option. The fries are REALLY good. The calamari was excellent, and the bread was soft and fresh out of the oven. Â I really enjoyed my dinner here. Â I will go back to try their other menu items. Â I'm only sorry that I had not gone here before or I would have avoided the bad experience at chilis across the street.
Review Source:Minus a star for allowing smoking in the bar. Yes, I know it's allowed since it's "partitioned" away from the dining area but yuck. Gross. I smelled like an ashtray for like a day after.
Other than that, this is a pretty cool spot. Huge room with lots of TVs and tables to watch sports. Games on one side of the room, including skee ball! That definitely gets an extra star for me. They food selection is pretty good and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
I'd definitely come back but I'll have to remember to take a shower as soon as I get home. I hate that everything I wore, my hair, and my skin were reeking of smoke!
Lucky's is one of those places that often struck us as a good idea, until we were making our way out of our booth and wondering why we didn't just stop for Chinese takeout.
The dining room is massive and it's almost always nearly completely empty. They must be making their money on the bar side. The staff is almost always very attentive and nice. The people watching is usually pretty good. There are TVs almost everywhere and if you're not a jerk, they'll make sure you can watch your game.
The menu is soooooo long. It is so long that Gordon Ramsey and that Restaurant Impossible guy sit around day dreaming about cutting it down by 75%. This might make it a good fit for a large group of picky eater sports fans, but usually it just means it takes twenty minutes to order.
The food is also something Gordon Ramsey day dreams about screaming about. It's just sort of slop Cheap ingredients, too much sauce, too big of servings, clearly heavy use of microwaves.
You can do better. In this neighborhood, I'm not really sure where... but there's probably somewhere.
Decided on an early dinner @ 4pm and I should have waited another hour until the chef showed up. Â Ordered a medium rare filet mignon and a loaded baked potato. Â Ice cold potato came with a SOLID ball of frozen butter. Â Sent it back and by the time the server returned, the potato was hot, but the steak was cold. Â It was also rare--very rare. Â And not seasoned. Â So I send the pair back again and in defense of the server (Sean) he made sure it came out the way it should have 20 minutes earlier. Â My daughter's pork chops were fine. Â Service was good, but for $60, they oughta get it right the first time.
Lastly, the arriving evening servers loitered in the reception area talking to the hostess and my 14 y/o daughter got to learned what getting "krunked" means.
A good place to watch sports, except for the SMOKE. Â I and many others would spend more time there without the smoke. Â The management should get a clue and realize the smokers will still come if they and can outside and smoke. Â Now, I'll go to Buffalo Billiards instead just because of the SMOKE. Â Buffalo took the hint and stopped the inside smoking and I'm sure it didn't hurt them and actually improved the number and type of customers. Â If it wasn't for the SMOKE I would have given Lucky's 4 stars. Â Lucky's, please take a hint and stop the smoking inside! Â I and others who value their health will surely be back if you do.
Review Source:While their service is usually to die for in the bar area, last fight night I came and waited 45 minutes to get one beer. Â Normally I'd leave, but there was a large party of us and we desperately wanted to see the fight. Â After it took 45 minutes, the server - Hannah- then took an additional 40 minutes to get us our next beer, since we went ahead and ordered when we got the first beer since it'd taken so long.
Ultimately if it'd been my first time, I wouldn't have been back. Â Luckily (haha) I'll give it another try and hope it gets better!
Met some friends here for a late lunch. It was a weekend but there were no sporting events going on so the place was pretty empty. I had the ahi tuna, which was delicious. They didn't have strawberry/raspberry lemonade but when I asked, they offered to make me something with grenadine in it. That was nice of them and it was good, so I can't complain. The waiter was friendly too. Â My only nitpick is that the prices are a bit high for what you get, but it could be worse.
Review Source:I went on karaoke night and sat in the bar area. Â This place is just nasty with smoke. Â As a person who likes to sing, but hates smoke, I have to think twice about this place for karaoke. Â They were trying to kill people with the second hand smoke. Â You may leave this place needing an iron lung.
Despite this, it looked like a decently kept bar. Â The bar has an upscale look to it. Â I was hungry, so I ordered the salmon entree. Â This fish tasted like it was frozen for a long time before they cooked it. Â Terrible especially when you look at the prices they are asking for bad food.
I tried the long beach iced tea, which tasted good, but did not have enough liquor.
The service was good, but the other problems were just too much for me. Â I don't want to go back.
I have been to Lucky's twice. I have had horrible service both times. Let's start with the good. The food is really good. The first time I had a burger. It was juicy and cooked well. The rolls are yeasty and soft and are served with a yummy honey butter. The second time I had Old Bay wings. They were so good and crunchy. The seasoning was perfect. I also had the lobster bisque which was mediocre.
Now for the service. The first time, we had a girl who was probably in high school. Now to her credit, there was some sort of event for school children. She was not waiting on any of those tables but I can see how that would cause a lot of confusion. The second time, I went with my mom. There were only two other occupied tables in the whole restaurant and there were at least 6 servers. A large party had just left when we came in. We waited for at least 15 minutes before the bus boy came over and took our order. He was very nice. The rest of the servers were standing around gossiping. Â I talked to the manager who gave me coupons for money off my next meal but I will only go to Lucky's for take out from now on. The service ruins all quality of the food and that is why it only gets 2 stars.
It's typical "upscale" sports-bar. Food is overpriced, especially for what you get. There are large flat-screen TVs everywhere, so there's plenty to distract you.
Their selection of liquors (at least bourbons - and, sorry, but Jack Daniels is decidedly *NOT* bourbon) is sorely lacking. Lacking a bourbon selection, my wife ordered a Tanqueray and tonic while I ordered a kamikaze on the rocks. Drinks are competently made.
I ordered their cajun ribeye cooked rare. To me, this means a flavorful steak with seasoning that accents (spices up) the underlying meat. Unfortunately, at this place, it means "so covered in mid-grade spices that you have no idea what the underlying meat feels or tastes like". On the plus side, they actually seem to understand that when someone orders their steak rare, they mean "with a cool, red center".
My steak came with a side salad as an appetizer. I chose the green salad because I've never found a caesar salad I liked. To me, a green salad is pretty much a mix of lettuces garnished with stuff like carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers or other common garden vegetables. THEIR green salad is lettuce with finely-chopped tomatoes and garnished heavily with dates, raisins and cranberries - I freaking hate fruits on my salads - sprinkled liberally with pine nuts and then doused with a sweet dressing. FMEH.
My wife ordered the house salad. It looked more like what I expect from a green salad. My wife informed me that it was ok, but didn't taste like it was made from especially well-sourced produce.
We were gonna get the bread-pudding for desert, but ran out of time. Given their selection of bourbons, I imagine the advertised bourbon-sauce would have been disappointing.
I was here to watch the UFC fights so the place was packed. Â Not my first choice of Saturday night activity, but that's not Lucky's fault. Â So, like I said, the bar was standing room only, but we lucked out and got a table just as someone was leaving which was awesome because we were starving.
Since they have a bar that is separated from the dining area, smoking is allowed. Â Which is cool, I think smoking should be allowed in bars but it seems like they had no ventilation at all because you hit a thick wall of smoke immediately when you open the door. Â
The waitress seemed a little annoyed and forgetful but she was super busy so I get that and think she did a pretty good job. Â We got the nachos (not too bad), Asian Chicken Salad (awful), and the Philly (reported to be good). Â
The food tasted ok but by the end of dinner I was feeling sick. Â Like, really sick. Â I'd rather not go into details. Â So we got the check and made a quick dash home.
So pros: ok service, they have the fights (if you're into that sort of thing), smoking is permitted (if you're into that sort of thing)
cons: Â bad experience with the food, and WAY too smokey - seriously put in a fan or something. Â I reeked of smoke when i got home.
I normally wouldn't find myself at local bars, but since it's right across the street from my home I end up frequenting this spot when I get the itch to get out of the house.
Prices aren't too shabby, and they serve blue moon on tap which is a definite plus. Â I've never been dissapointed by their bar food. It is mostly because the food is actually good and partly because I'm usually slightly tipsy by the time I'm ready to order which makes the food taste even better!
Wait staff is friendly and expedite food and drinks rather quickly. Â
One of the downfalls (or non-down falls depending on how you look at it) is that it is one of the only places that allows smoking indoors due to their ventilation system, Â so it get's really smoky inside. I normally can't leave from there without smelling like an ash tray, which is not usually an attractive smell on a woman.
Over all, I'd come back. Not too shabby, Lucky's Sportsbar!
Lucky's has decent nite life. Friday and Sat nite there is a DJ, an late 20-early 30s crowd, fun adult arcade games, and decent bar food. The TVs are also great. People don't really dance much, but the DJ is still good.
However, on a Friday it is hard to find a place to sit.
My only qualm with Luckys is that it lacks gluten free beer and menu options. I have expressed by disappointment on the comment cards, so far these have not yielded results.
I would satisfied if they had:
GF beer
GF pastas
GF breads
and GF appetizers.
Dairy free and nut free items wouldnt be bad either.
Love this place! Have never been to the restaurant side of the place, only to the bar area. Tons of games (including corn hole on certain nights), great staff, great food (not your typical bar fare), laid back atmosphere, big screen tvs to watch the games.......doesn't get much better!
Review Source:Let's start off with the good: The rolls are yummy! I've come here a couple of times on Wednesdays (kids night) which is nice that the waitresses always cater to the kids needs. Their food gets brought out first and quickly which keeps them occupied.
I have only tried the mahi-mahi sandwich which is not too bad but one night the portion was super small and the other night I ordered it, it was rather large. So a little inconsistent.
One complaint I have is that for kids night they give kids free game cards to use. But the games are all in the bar area which is a separate room filled with SMOKE. Why would I ever send my small children in there to subject them to that? So I have a stack of game cards if anyone has a kid who smokes a pack a day.....
ITS LIKE BEEN IN HEAVEN, good choice off house wine n been able to sit at a bar that smoking is allowed PRICELESS... Beside the service is preaty fast they know what they doing very professional. the ahi tuna by far is t freshes i have had in alexandria, they r lots off flat screen TVs to look at t games, t people who whos there r very respecful.. Â Â Â Â Â Â
The only prblem is t smoking seccion alot off kids goin n play w t games, i just dont know how i feal about a place where is alot off smoking an drinking n kids playing that close..
I was not at all impressed. Â I went here with my wife for dinner. Â Now I will say the best part of the meal was the dinner rolls. Â They are totally awesome. Â I had the cajun steak and it was as tasty as shoe leather. Â The service was also horrible. Â Not to mention there was some kind of baseball all-star team there making a ton of noise and running back and forth from the game room to the dining area. Â Will not go again.
Review Source:I come here to watch sports games with girlfriends or with the hubby. They always have a great selection of food and beer and it never lets me down! I always get the calamari and share with a few people. The service is a hit or miss but come on people, give them some slack on a busy night!
Overall, a solid place to enjoy with a large crowd if you're looking for that sports bar vibe. The decor is pretty awesome too!
So I had always heard this place was trashy from my older cousins and friends who would go to the bar, being that there is a mechanical bull in the bar area. Â If I was to rate the service it would be 1-2 stars, however the alfredo that I got was bangin. Â
So we went on fight night, and our waitress was horrible. Â I would be speaking mid sentence and she would just wander off. Â She failed to come and refill drinks. Â I understand it was a busy night, but its not like the people who arrived at 9 would be there until 11 eating and ordering drinks. Â They were there soley to continue watching the series of fight. Â Anyways so I thought my waitress gave us horrible service. Â Then I went to the bar to try and get change, I'm of age to bar hop. Â However, I wasn't aware that you had to be 21 to just go into the bar area. Â Meaning that I had to sit there and waste everyone's time waiting for change. Â Which I thought was inconvenient and dumb, I'm 18, last time I checked, I was aloud to go into the bar.
That being said, the alfredo I had was delicious, but gave me the runs when I got home. Â Maybe I should change this rating to a 1 or 2 star.
Hubs and I were out this past weekend shopping at the Springfield Mall and had worked up quite an appetite. Â So, I jumped on YELP and saw the reviews for Baja Fresh - which led us to this neighborhood strip mall, just in time for hubs to decide he'd rather try this place out! Â
The parking lot was pretty full, but once inside, we were seated within a minute or two. Â I was impressed by the decor - kind of golf-club-esque, with elevated booths and large windows. Â
Our server was friendly and prompt, and offered an explanation of the menus - there were two, the regular and the specialty listings. Â The calamari was recommended, so we tried that (yummo!) and for the first time in as long as I can remember, I made my entree decision faster than the hubs did - that's how extensive the menu was!
I ordered the steak salad, which featured grilled-to-order steak atop romaine, roasted corn, a mix of cheeses and buttermilk basil dressing - which proved to be a simple, but really harmonious blend of flavors! Â Hubs decided on the club sandwich, and subbed the fries for a lobster bisque...both very delectable in the bites he offered me! Â The sandwich was piled high in the traditional manner, with perfectly toasty (and oh so buttery) bread, plus the lobster bisque really had an almost sweet aroma that complemented the main course well.
I was glad to hear that the menu is always changing, due to guests suggestions (they even had comment cards on each table, a practice I didn't realize how much I missed - I remember seeing a lot more often when I was a kid!) so that it's the optimal mix of traditional and new flavor combinations.
Best steak in the Alexandria area.......(hands down)
Basically it's divided up into 2 sections the restaurant part (to your right)
and the sports bar part (to your left)
Meet my ex boss there on several occasion's to just drink in the bar area and shoot the breeze... has an arcade inside the bar which is kinda kewl and they use to have a mechanical bull which was awesome once we got drunk enough to get on it!!
but the steak is "off the chain" for the price and if any of my house guest ever want a good steak in the area I recommend Lucky's
Background story:
Went to a friend's house to watch the UFC fight. After an hour of fighting with Verizon, we decided to just go watch it somewhere. We made a few phone calls, and this seemed like the closest place to go.
We walk in... and I'm in sweatpants. Thought we'd be watching this one at home. Oops. Anyway, it was kind of crowded, but we found a table and sat down to watch the games. Also, there was NO COVER, which, for fight night, is a huge bonus.
We were seated between the kitchen/bar and our waitress' serving section. She was overly attentive. We joked that when we were ready to order another round, she'd disappear. She didn't.
The fight was on most of the TVs, and the other ones were covering two college football games. It was nice to watch that between the fights.
We each had a beer (good selection), I had an Irish coffee (not authentic, but better than anticipated), and my roommate had calamari, which was actually pretty tasty. Pricing was about standard for the area.
I'd definitely go back next fight night, and maybe check it out for football games.
I am shocked to see so many high reviews for this place. The menu competes with Mike Grill, in Springfield, unfortunately Lucky's cannot compete. The food at Lucky's is not good at all. The first few times there i thought maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but that wasn't the case.
It's very smokey and I cannot understand why they have a kids night when the place is filled with smoke.
I will not go back.
This is the perfect place to watch sports, provided you get there early enough to get a seat. Seats go fast on NFL Sundays and UFC fight nights. There are six huge projection screens and several other smaller flat screens, so any game you could want to see will be on somewhere.
The menu isn't huge, but the sliders, the wings, and the bbq prime rib sandwich (when they have it) are awesome. There is a good beer selection and the waitresses are very attentive (Daisy!).
I was there recently and was told that the mechanical bull is being removed. I have no idea what is going in its place.
Lucky's is a last resort sort of place. You know the type of place you go to when you find yourself marooned in the Kingstowne area and your alternatives are Chili's or TGI Friday's.
Lucky's is divided in half; one side a bar/arcade area and the other a restaurant. The bar features 3 large projector screens and a good smattering of flat-panel TVs throughout always displaying sports. That's the good.
Oddly the bar area is littered with arcade machines and a mechanical bull... yeah, not sure what type of crowd Lucky's is going after there. It's strange to go in for some brews with my buddies and sit at a bar table next to a group of 13 year old kids playing video games.
The decibel level is also pretty much out of hand. Each TV & projector is pretty much on full blast and competing with the arcade machines. I was there on a Tuesday night which just so happens to be Karaoke Night, so add to all that noise even more noise. The DJ's first song was a pretty obvious choice - The BlackEyedPeas "Let's Get it Started". Not sure what he was trying to start with a crowd consisting of 13 year olds and their parents. The next song was "Barbie Girl"... yep, time for the check.
Also if you hate smoky bars stay away from Lucky's. The place is absolutely clogged with smoke and could use a lot more ventilation.
I have to say too, the bar menu sucks. There are literally 3 sandwiches/burgers to choose from. A cheeseburger, a BBQ burger and a chicken sandwich. That's it.
Decided to stop in at Lucky's on a Sunday afternoon in search of the Miami Dolphins game. Since we're too cheap to purchase NFL Sunday Ticket my hubby and I usually try to find a place to get some grub and catch the game.
We were happy with the amount of HD TV's inside this place and the placement of the booths makes it easy to see. Decor was classy, the food was not shabby and the service was ok (a little disoriented at times), too. We went for the calamari appetizer, crabcake sandwich, and cajun chicken sandwich. All items came to us piping hot which is a change from most sports bars where the food seems to veg out under a lukewarm heatlamp prior to delivery.
Would head back to this location to catch a game and also to try the "theater" side (full of Redskins fans) at the time.
