When this place first opened up in Sugar Land, I was excited. My brother, cousins, and I love to go get in some pool and darts whenever we can.
Luke's used to be a nice place with plenty of pool tables and side seating. Somewhere along the line, it turned into some half club, half pool hall type of place, and it is paying the price in damaged furniture, damaged pool tables and pool sticks, and a damaged reputation. The price of the hourly rate for pool has also almost doubled since this place opened, but there's almost nothing to justify it.
Some of the TVs have a messed up color scheme and haven't been fixed since. The stools are all kinds of messed up from all of the drunkards that storm this place on Thursdays and the weekends. Somebody is going to get hurt sitting on one of those unstable barstools. Oh, and have fun trying to find the pool sticks with the bottoms still attached. There are maybe three or four, and I run all over the place looking for them.
Also, note to the DJ: TURN IT DOWN. I refuse to go deaf from such terrible music. The jukebox has plenty of selections. Why mess with a good thing?
Basically, if you want to go to this place and not hate it, go during the day when absolutely nobody is there, or go on a night when there aren't drink specials. The waitresses will actually pay attention to you, and you won't have to put up with terrible music.
Even after all of this, the sad part is that Luke's is one of the only standing pool halls within reasonable distance now that the closest Slick Willie's closed, so if you want to shoot pool, you have to put up with this until management decides to make changes.
Absolutely terrible experience. We ordered a simple cheese pizza that ended up getting burned TWICE. How do you do that? Management was extremely rude to our party in general, and later on in the evening when confronted about never getting the pizza after two hours, the manager wouldn't even take responsibility for any of it, blaming his "f***ing wait staff." Won't be coming back again, and wouldn't be surprised to see this place go out of business in the near future.
Review Source:Waitress was absolutely terrible. Barely spoke English. When I told her I wanted Maker's on the rocks, she had no clue what it was. However, she didn't say anything. She brought my friend's drinks, and then asked me again what I wanted. Finally, my friend(who is very blunt) just yelled 'Maker's Mark, it's freaking bourbon!" She finally brought it. I decided I wanted a bite to eat. I can't remember what I first asked for, but they were out. Then I asked for something else. They were out. She said, all we have is chicken nuggets and popcorn. I said popcorn. She came back and said they didn't have that either! This girl was clearly not on the ball. I ordered the chicken nuggets. After about 30min, she brings them out. One problem, after about 20min, I told her forget it. My friend made it clear that we were not going to pay for them, especially when what she brought out was FOUR obviously Tyson brand chicken nuggets. She argued that we needed to pay. We ended up gettin a manager, and he took it off. Needless to say, I didn't tip her a single penny. Not impressed.
Review Source:Luke's is a much needed addition to Sugar Land's limited night-life. A very laid back pool hall and a smoke-free environment with good prices is a win in my book. Although it may be slightly hidden from the highway, it offers a nice place to relax and hang out with friends.
I used to go to the Slick Willie's located in Stafford, however, now that I've come across this little gem, I don't think I'll be going back to Slicks any time soon. This place is much cleaner and offers a few dart boards which isn't half bad. They have a good amount of pool tables and offer drink specials throughout the week.
Pool tables go for $10/hour and on the night I went, they were offering $5 pitchers on domestics. Dart boards are free, however, you may have to wait for one to be available since they only have three boards. They have t.v.'s throughout so that shouldn't be an issue. Also, the staff here was very friendly during my visit.
Overall, I'm glad I recently discovered this place. I didn't even know this place existed prior to my friends suggesting we go shoot pool there. Definitely a cool place to come out and relax and shoot pool. They offer a few tables outside so you can hang out outside as well. I definitely see myself coming back here and suggest it to anyone looking for a nice pool hall.
I can't believe no one's reviewed this place. I went on a rare day off with a friend, and the place is clean, I'm talking the moment you walk in you to take a moment to appreciate the place.
For a pool hall it's down right beautiful... and I know I won't be the only one who stops to whisper, "I didn't know it could be like this."
The only reason I'm not rating this place higher is that I went early in the afternoon, so I can't vouch for the night or weekend scene. The bartender was sweet, but I only ordered some munchies, so I can't  speak on their drinks either.
I'm looking forward to coming back one night, this place truly has the potential of being one of my favorite spots.
