This review is not for the food, atmosphere, or drinks. It is for the service.
We ordered to draught beers, and an order of wings. The food and rinks were good, and we were in and out in less than 15 minutes. Our server took our order and brought our food and bill. It was normal service.
We tipped 10% since we were in so fast and were along the bar, not in a larger table. We could have tipped more, but in this circumstance it didn't seem necessary. Our server returned part of the tip (he kept a dollar for some reason) along with a guide on tipping and asked us if we had ever done this before. We were both confused and then we read the tipping card that calculated for us variations of tips from 15% up to 30%. We left a 20% tip that made us feel ashamed, awkward and truly it ruined a nice break from our day.
I understand that this is a tourist area, but in this case I felt that this was rude. Tip are appreciations of service and for what we were given, we gave a small appreciation. Come for the food, the nice view of the beach, but don't forget that you are required to tip 20% to a server who does nothing outside their most basic job description.
My wife and I love LuLu's! This is our favorite breakfast in Waikiki. Â We eat here more often than any other breakfast spot in Honolulu. Â
She loves the apple cinnamon waffles. Â I love the tuna benedict and the egg scrambles. Â The food is scrumptious. Â The coffee is Kona; tastes great black. Â The price is reasonable $10-15 a plate.
The view is amazing! Everyone should eat here at least once for the view. Â We love to sit back, sip our drinks and pretend we have an ocean front lanai.
Waikiki has a lot of fairly expensive, touristy places. There are only a few bar type places that I know if. Lulu's is one of them. I really enjoyed the open air setup (as a lot of places in Hawaii are). They have live music sometimes. Drinks, of course, are delicious, and the food is decent too.
During peak season, it does get a bit packed, and service slows down....but it's peak season...in Hawaii....so that's to be expected.
Prices are reasonable for Waikiki. If you want a good place to unwind a bit. Definitely take a stop here!
Right across from the beaches off Kalakaua Ave--keep an eye out for the LuLu's Waikiki sign as it doesn't quite jump out at you--follow the signs and head upstairs.
Upstairs, competing with the hotel-intertwined brunch spots on the Waikiki beach front, Lulu's on the second floor is as good and convenient site as any to grab breakfast or brunch. Â Bar by night brunch phenom by day, LuLu's is a nice place to grab a breakfast on the go.
If it's just a few of you, try to grab one of the rail seats looking out onto the Waikiki Beaches and watch the beach edge in and out while you devour your brunch.
The Stuffed French Toast, as advised by other Yelpers, is rich--just as satisfying without the dollop of whipped cream as with so you can focus on the cream cheese stuffed bread and banana slices. Â A side of kalua pork is tender for the traditional smoked pork--the same as high quality smoked pork on other parts of the US (and just as similar, minus the true fumblings of an underground oven---at least if you want a juicy side in time for breakfast anyway). Â Lulu's has great service that allows you to make a quick in, quick out, so you can focus on being decisive on which of the numerous places to hit up after breakfast.
The stuffed French Toast is ~$10, coffee is! $3. The side of kalua pork is !$4.
Best beach food in Waikiki
We had a tremendous plate of Kalua Pork Nachos at Lulus. The half order is more than enough for two and the selection of cold draft beers was good. We also had a Mahi-Mahi plate with a macadamia nut sauce that was very tasty. The rice pilaf was moist and the veges were steamed well.
The service was very friendly and the view of the beach was great from the railing seats, although we preferred to sit at the high tables in the bar area.
Lulu's is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Waikiki. If you're visiting, make it a point to walk to the Zoo end and get a seat overlooking the beach for one of the best wake-up dining experiences available!
Lulu's does it right. There's a distinct surf vibe here and a menu that's in touch with the locals. In particular, the breakfast is bang on. Lots of healthy and organic choices here, plus this amazing French toast: http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
Breakfast is especially filling after an early morning swim or any of the activities in Kapiolani Park or Diamondhead. And don't forget to start yourself off with the papaya. Squirt that lime and you're good to go!
I loved LuLu's. I stayed at the Park Shore, just behind the restaurant so it was a convenient and quick walk. I unfortunately, due to over booked planes, found myself in Oahu by myself for 24 hours and did not necessarily feel comfortable venturing very far by myself which made LuLu's a great choice. The view is stunning! I sat at the bar running the length of the restaurant, looking out towards the water- just beautiful! The service was great, the staff were all very friendly and nice. When my boyfriend finally arrived I had to take him here because they had been so good to me. :)
Review Source:You know when you go to tourist towns and the locals know the tourists keep them afloat but they resent them all the same? Welcome to Lulu's where they know they can be aholes to you because they probably will never see you again. We came in to watch the nba finals game and get some food because it ess close to the hotel and I was concerned about the poor reviews but the game has already started and it was close. The waiter seemed to go out of his way to be unfriendly and not helpful, letting us know we only had 8 minutes left for happy hour even though the clock said 15 and saying "I can't let you keep a menu because we're changing to dinner" instead of a more positive "why don't I bring you the dinner menu since we're switching over in a few minutes." Rarely do I not tip but why reward someone who is daring you to leave? Skip this place. So many better choices to enjoy your things in the most beautiful place in earth.
Review Source:This was my very first time to LuLu's. It was a popular place for my friends a few years older than me. Unfortunately by the time I turned 21, the LuLu's craze ended. I was interested to go to this place though. We decided to go here after a day at the zoo. The first thing that made not enjoy this establishment is the fact that there are SO MANY BIRDS. I understand that their establishment is open, so birds and such could fly in, but if that's the case I feel that they should make more of an effort to make sure there isn't food left on the ground for birds to fight over.
The sole reason I can't give this place anything over a one star is the service. Our waiter was horrible. We waited for at least 5 minutes for him to even come over to our table. I understand it can get busy, but even if you have to just walk by with a tray filled with things, acknowledging you have a table would be nice enough. When our waiter finally arrived, he just took our order and left. We ordered drinks with our meal. Our drinks took a while top. The food itself wasn't bad. I thought it was tasty. I had the Magnum PI burger (drrooooooooooolll). My BF hadn't ordered a drink because he was considering dessert. But after eating his meal, he realized he wouldn't be able to finish the dessert he was eyeing, so opted for a drink. He ordered his drink and saw the waiter punch it in. After 5 minutes or so go by, my BF & his sister are wondering where the drink is. They look at the bar and see a drink (that they think is his). They aren't sure if it is, so they don't think anything of it. A few more minutes went by, and they started to look for our server. He was on the opposite end of the restaurant talking to his coworkers. My BF waited another 5 minutes till he got his drink. Needless to say my BF & his sister were very disappointed, and his tip wasn't too big.
Our resort was around the corner and we decided to come here because of some good reviews I saw. However, don't let the reviews fool you. Most things seemed overpriced, and the food was only decent. I must mention that the guava/pineapple juice is a complete scam. It tastes like it was poured out of a carton and served in a tiny cup, and it was $4. The food was just okay, nothing stood out. 3 stars for amazing view and good service!
Review Source:Cool place. Live music. Food is pretty good.
Being a burger guy, I was surprised to eat a great burger here. The steak and other entrees tasted good as well, just nothing out of this world. The only cons about this place are: pretty loud (music plus people shouting over the music), and crowded even on week days. After all, it is in the heart of tourism city aka Waikiki...
Went in to see if they were hiring.
Talked to a rude and unfriendly manager. He told me "we aren't hiring", didn't give me much information and told me maybe I should apply at Denny's.... wtf?
Well little did he know that I have years of restaurant experience.
I'll take myself somewhere better.
Our last day in Waikiki before our flight, we were looking for a place to have breakfast and since this was right next door to our hotel we choose to come here. They weren't busy yet, so we were greeted quickly and sat us near the open window with the view of the ocean. I ordered the Garden Scramble which was pretty good and Bf got an Dawn patrol Omelet and he liked it. it was a basic breakfast nothing to ooh and ahh about, but we enjoyed it.
Review Source:The location is convenient and it's nice to overlook the ocean with open windows.
On Saturday night there was a live band but it was just too loud. I couldn't hear my friends talk half the time or had to lean way over. The music was actually good but I didn't enjoy it because of the volume. :/
I had a pomegranate martini which was ho-hum, and the kalua pork quesadilla which was really good. The tomato tortilla was tasty and crispy, and the filling was flavorful. Decent salsa too.
I'd like to try their breakfast and hopefully I can add a few more stars. :-)
I love this place, one of my favorite spots to grab food or drinks. Â There drinks are priced exactly how you think a bar in Waikiki would price drinks, and their food is the same way. Â Everything I have had there was delicious. Â If you're out with a couple of friends and are looking to fill your belly without breaking your bank get the Beach Boy Nachos with your choice of meat, I recommend the Kalua Pork. Â They are the best nachos I have ever had anywhere in the world. Â Plus every girl that works there is pretty hot and that's always a plus in my book. Â If you make friends with somebody in the "industry" all of your food and drinks will be half off on Monday nights if you bring them with you.
Review Source:This place is like a bar with a great view. It's right on top of the ABC store.
Eating here, you get a great view of the ocean! Â This place was within walking distance of our hostel (Waikiki Beachside Hostel).
The breakfast we had here is the average breakfast you get at a bar. Â But the portions are big!
Service is decent. Â And the food is okay. Â I'd come back for the view.
My friends and I decided to drop by this place after being in Waikiki. Â We got seated right away... at noon.. in Waikiki. Yes I said it, at noon.. in Waikiki. Â It's located next to the ABC store on the second floor.
I ordered the nachos and the rest ordered sandwiches. Lame... I kept eating the nachos like the savage beast that I am. Â Imagine a zombie eating a brain. Â I had two hands all up in it. Â If the nachos could speak for the whole menu, it would say I am just the tip of the iceberg. Â Everyone enjoyed their meal and I totally plan on coming here again..
You can't beat the view that you get while you swallow your enormous portion of food given to you.
Afterwards, you can just go and relax on the beach as you caress your food baby.
Apparently the owner of the place doesn't live in Hawaii anymore, but Chicago so they offer no Kamaina or military discount. boooo The waiter says he keeps trying to change that. Â I can only hope his voice is heard. Â I should get something for living in paradise right??
Just like I wouldn't go to a bookstore to get a pedicure, I don't normally go to "bar"-type places and expect good food. (There are places like that...see Real and Yardhouse, but few and far between.) This was no exception.
They were slightly busy, which is to be expected on a Saturday night. And our server was very nice. All of the bussers were on their game, so none of the tables stayed dirty and all of our plates were cleared very quickly. Why the low rating? The food was far less than stellar.
A friend and I split an order of ahi poke. Fairly simple, nothing extravagant. We got it, and it looked huge! It was served in a crispy, wonton bowl over white rice. However, after the first bite, we realized it was mostly rice! Not only was there a scoop of rice on the plate (hence the "served over rice" in the menu description), but it was mostly rice in the wonton bowl as well! There were maybe, maybe, 4 bites of poke altogether. At the $14 price I would've rather gone to Safeway for my poke! We added on the avocado for $2 more...not much avocado, either. I was very disappointed. As far as taste is concerned, nothing special there. Just your every day limu poke.
If you're looking for someplace for a good beer, and a place to hang out, Lulu's works. But I'd skip it if you're hungry!
My girlfriend and I came here for lunch one day while wandering around Waikiki.
The portions are HUGE so we shared a burger. We had the Aloha Burger and volcano fries. The Aloha Burger was pretty good - it had grilled pineapple on it. The volcano fries just have cajun seasoning on them, but they were good. They weren't super duper fries, but they were tasty enough.
The restaurant actually cut the burger in half and split the fries onto two plates. That was awesome - I hate having to split my own food when I share. That alone boosted this place to four stars for me.
Also, this place has a decent beer selection! I'm coming from an area with oodles of beer and the beer in Hawaii is just lacking. This place had the most broad beer selection that we found!
Trying to get in some last minute shopping before leaving out on Monday, we decided to stop in to get some lunch before the rain started. The hostesses were both very nice and seated us within a few minutes. After chatting with us about just about everything and finding out we had Houston, Texas in common, our server greeted us with a big smile and our menu.
Jess was very helpful and made extremely good recommendations for lunch. The food was excellent and came out in a hurry which was a good thing because the rain followed shortly afterwards. Believe it or not, it does rain in paradise. Jess made arrangements to move us under the umbrellas to escape the rain to finish our lunch. We had intended to return there for lunch on Monday before heading to the airport but the rain continued and our hotel would not give us any reprieve in a late check-out.
When we return
My fiancé and I go here often. The view is fantastic. The food is decent (today we had delicious ahi poke which was big enough for a meal). They have really great live music sometimes. Some of the hostesses are unfriendly and it seems like they'd rather be anywhere else but at work.
Their breakfasts are great. As are their coconut shrimp and calamari strips.
Walking around the beach today and could not find an open table that had a beach view until we got to Lu Lu's. First thought: Sports Bar!!!
Time of Day: Monday 4:30PM
The hostess sat us down promptly and i decided to order a fairly decent dinner.
Appetizer: Ahi poke with avocado ($16.00)
This was a different spin on the Poke.
It came out in a "wonton shell" (My co-worker made that up and I didn't know what to call it) Â like a taco salad. Ahi Poke with Maui and green onions, and sesame seeds topped a small bed of rice with their special shoyu sauce
I opted for the extra avocado which added an extra touch to an already unconventional Poke.
I would definitely recommend it. It was different yet good at the same time.
Dinner: Magnum P.I. Burger ($13.00)
Hello mother of all burgers. There's nothing Tom Selleck (A.K.A. Magnum) about this burger. (BTW ... For those of you that don't know 1980's TV, Â Thomas Magnum, was a private investigator living on Oahu, Hawaii. known for his Red Ferrari). Â
Anyway, pardon getting side tracked. This burger has a 1/3 lb patty and I hope you have the mouth of Steven Tyler to chow down on this ginormous hunk of meat topped with guacamole and bacon and 1000 Island sauce. I had a hard time wrapping my choppers around it and got it all over my face.
Caution: Not for those with lockjaw. Haha! Use the fork and knife, we don't want you to get hurt now!
Our waiter was Andrew. He was pleasant and was able to get our food and check promptly, even though I could see him running around. Kuddos!!! Excellent Employee!
Broke the bank by $30.37 plus tip.
I would come back again! Moderately priced and excellent spot to hang out to watch the game. What else do you need?
You know that pasty, gummy, heavy, bland, sticky taste of eating a soggy bowl of day-old newspaper? My friends, let me introduce you to Lulu's clam chowder. I seldom meet a soup I don't like, and I couldn't bring myself to choke this down on a recent visit to Lulu's. Maybe I could throw them a bone if it was the end of the day and the soup had been sitting on the line for 6 hours, but we went for lunch literally when they opened.
Service was miserable too. We got seated at a high-top in the bar that wasn't clean and had like 8 jelly dispensers on it, which the hostess joked about and then left there. It took 10 mins for someone to notice us. In fact, we were about to leave when the waiter was like, "oh, hi." We already knew what we wanted and proceeded to order two salads and the cup of chowder. Before we even got our orders out, the waiter gave us a random forewarning that lunch would take a while because they were switching over from breakfast. Shouldn't they have this down by now? And what exactly is "a while?"
The soup and salads were delivered by an expediter about 25 mins later and my boyfriend said his cobb was pretty sub-par. My maui wowie salad was just ok too. By now, we were in a rush to leave and had our credit card waving about, but our server was too busy watching basketball to close us out. Add another 10 mins.
I used to like this chill, beachside place and thought the food and service were decent in the past (although always fairly slow), but I wouldn't going back after this last visit. It barely eked out two stars, and those are only for the atmosphere and beer.
Came here twice on my recent trip to Waikiki and was pleasantly surprised both times. For breakfast my friend and I split an omlet, simple but very well done, and the stuffed French toast. The French toast was out of this world!! Highly recommend for a local treat.
When I returned for lunch my friend got a salad which she said was fresh and hit the spot while I had the French dip and wasn't disappointed. Plenty of food for around 10 bucks a person, really couldn't ask for more. The gorgeous view of the ocean doesn't hurt either.
The live music is always spot on, never too loud, and always great.
All the food here is amazing. Sometimes, it's more than I want to spend, but I do have my favorites that I am willing to spend money on.
Pasta Primavera (Veggie Style) is fantastic. Loaded with delicious veggies and perfectly saucy.
The Steak and/or Chicken Fajitas. Always grilled to perfection, and it comes out to you on a sizzling platter loaded with meat and veggies, and smells divine.
The Teri Steak is soooo good, and the garlic mashed potatoes are an excellent side to go with it.
The Macadamia Crusted Mahi is DELICIOUS and not too filling, but perfectly proportioned. Get it with the rice pilaf.
The Nachos are HUGE and can feed your whole party, and they are fantastic.
I could keep going (clearly, I come here a lot) but I will stop there.
These guys are also great about substitutions, especially due to dietary restrictions or allergies, they will always accommodate you the best they can. They've got great sunset views, and they are even open for breakfast.
I HIGHLY recommend these guys.
This restaurant was recommended by a hotel receptionist, and it's actually pretty good! I got the magnum PI burger, it was so big I could only finish half.
The atmosphere is chill, the view is amazing!!!! Â Service is ok, could be better but the food makes up for it. Overall delicious, 4 stars because of the service otherwise would have been 5.
A large group of Hawaiian men verbally threatened our lives several times and was not punished at all from the security at the establishment or the Honolulu Police Department, instead WE were asked to leave.
We do not know what kind of biased terms or inadequate policies this establishment runs, but we do know that it is not fair, is shameful, and does require improvement.
If you are not local, or do not have connections, I would highly suggest not going here and/or being very careful who you speak to.
Good enough. Â But nothing extraordinarily special. Â It was part of the hotel where we were staying so we got it over and done with on the first day. Â We realized then the best thing is keeping walking up Kalakaua Avenue and eat at much more reasonably priced and better quality restaurants.
I had the wings which were great. Â My wife had a salad which was also good.
I wouldn't bother going back, unless I was lazy.
But there is nothing wrong with the place. Â Just not awesome or anything - unless you are maybe 21 or something.
LuLu's is located on the second floor of the Park Shore Hotel, where we stayed at for the first several days of our time out there. So, of course, we had to check it out!
This place has that "hang loose", festive atmosphere to it! They also have the whole open air, facing the beach thing going to it as well! We requested to sit near the edge where we could have a great view of the beach as we took in our meal and our gracious hostess was happy to oblidge us!
The service was here was pretty good! The waitress checked in on us several time during our meal and our drinks never reached the bottom of the glasses!
I decided to grab a "bucket" of wings, as I had been craving some wings for a while. Half a bucket for $10, or a full bucket for $15. It doesn't take a math wiz to figure which one is the better deal! The wings were tasty and fairly meaty and left my tummy feeling satisfied.
My friend grabbed the pork nachos and wow! was that a MASSIVE portion(see pic)! It took him a while, but he managed to put it away. I managed to grab a few bites and it didnt disappoint as well!
Didn't partake of any of the drink specials, but they always seem to have something running! Maybe one day...
I liked this place enough that I would certainly recommend it to anyone staying near or in the Park Shore..or hell, even if you're not! LuLu's provides generous portions of good food at affordable prices right by the beach!
4 stars!
If you're looking for cuisine, i.e. hoity-toity vittles, this ain't the place.
If you're looking for American chow with a Haw'n twist, come here.
Solid chow, lots of choices. The breakfasts are always good, and the coffee is very good. Service can be a bit dodgy, but this is Hawai'i and there's no need to rush. If there is, tell your server.
Always busy, and a very good value.
Enjoy!
I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Â This was my first time and to be honest, I never even knew it was here! Â I come to this part of the island quite often and never noticed it.
Parking was very convenient as the Honolulu Zoo parking lot was right across the street. Â Parking at that time was only $1 per hour.
The establishment itself was very loud - there was a "live" band there that night. Â Even without the band playing, I still felt like I needed to yell to be able to communicate with the others at my table. Â It was very open so you could see out to the beach and feel the breeze. Â The bar and restaurant had numerous flat-panel TVs tuned to sports (of course).
The waitress was very friendly and the food was pretty good. Â I ordered the Maryland Mahi which consisted of mahi stuffed with Maryland blue crab topped with lemon-caper butter sauce. Â Our table shared the spinach and artichoke dip and many more but this one was the only one I tasted. Â It was very good and very feta-parmesan cheesy. Â My overall food experience was very tasty and I wouldn't mind going back again. Â I also ordered a Lava Flow which was of course delicious.
What really ended the night on a good note was that although our party was about 12 or so people and our bills included gratuity because of this, our waitress told us we didn't have to pay the gratuity if we didn't want to. Â Needless to say, I went ahead and paid it ;)
I've been here before, and it's not like I remembered it to be food and service wise.
My husband and I just finished our Diamond Head hike and were starving for lunch. We wanted to try the artisan pizza guy on Kuhio, but unfortunately we found out he only opens at 6pm. We opted for Lulu's because it was near the zoo parking lot where we had parked.
When we get in we were greeted by a friendly girl, sat down immediately and given water and menus. Then...we waited about 15 minutes for our waiter to take our order. We ordered buffalo wings and beef nachos to share and one Newcastle beer. While waiting, oh let's say another 20 mins for food to come out there's random pigeons roaming around eating crumbs off the floor and flying over our heads. Gross. While waiting I'm wondering how long does it take to fry up some wings and toss it in Franks Red Hot sauce and throw together some nachos?!
Food finally comes and the tortilla chips are pretty much almost burnt and dry. Some of the beef is too. The rest of the toppings are good. I didn't care because I was hungry. The buffalo wings were ok, but once I looked at the celery sticks, there was still dirt inside them so they didn't even wash their veggies. Nasty.
We had about 9 mins to get to our car before time expired. We asked for the check and the guy took our credit card right there when asking. We wait another 20 mins until my husband gets mad seeing him wait other tables, and hang out with the front clerk. We approach him for our credit card and he replies with a rude snide "Oh...I forgot about you guys. I guess I can ring you up here." We told him that he already had our credit card and he digs into his apron and gives it back to us then walks away. We signed the check and gave ZERO tip. Crappy food, gross place, and crappy service. WE literally spent almost 2 hours in there just to get wings and nachos. Luckily, we didn't get a parking ticket for being over 20 mins expired on the meter.
Liked it here, as the view from the restaurant's edge was beautiful.
Food was good too - I had the veggie scramble and hubby had the waffle with strawberries. The scramble was good, albeit a tad heavy on the cheese, even though I asked for "light." Potatoes were scrumptious. Waffle was super crispy and only came with one.
Biggest qualm were the incessant birds flying through the windows, landing right next to us. I sat with my feet up on the chair the entire meal because the birds kept grazing for food underneath my dangling toes. Ew.
This place is clearly for tourists. The food here combines Hawaiian classics with some American flair. Our family came here twice during our trip. The first time was for breakfast because we wanted something close by and decent.
For breakfast, I had myself the loco moco with a side of portuguese sausage. The loco moco, was ok. The gravy was tasty but the burger patty wasn't really flavorful.
On our last night here, we came back here because my parents were being difficult and I was fresh out of ideas and had no car. I had myself the Surf and Turf with a rice pilaf. The steak was cooked pretty good. I ordered it rare and it was the first time it came out not medium rare. My only complaint is the rice pilaf it came with. It was pretty much mexican style rice. Kind of dry and almost crunchy. If it wasn't for the perfectly done steak, I would've had a field day.
The beauty of this place is that it has counter seats on the edge of the restaurant where you can enjoy food/drinks staring out at the beach front. Quite an amazing location and a few. I suggest coming here for some appetizers ore breakfast and sitting at the counter so you can take in the view.
