A reunion with a friend from the past couldn't have taken place in a better locale than the funky, fun and almost retro environment of Magnum Lounge - a darkened little cave of delights that combines, and it works, a mix of octogenarians singing show tunes and a bevy of queens of all ages working the piano bar and hustling and bustling as waiters.  Somehow I feel as if I myself am in an off broadway production and when we emerge from the light we'll be on 42nd Street and not Miami's hardscrabble 79th street neighborhood.  What really pulls the ambience all together is not the screeching renditions of Chorus Line oldies but goodies (although I think there is something to be said for hearing "One Singular Sensation" more than twice in one night could cause some to lose t heir appetite) is their food.  The food is really phenomenal.  My gleeful companion opted for a scrumptious seafood quesadilla while I tackled a plate of fried chicken and mashed potatoes that could have fed two of me (and it did as the rest I took home became a late night snack - perfect munchie food).  Our dessert which was an Argentine rendition of a banana pudding cake had so much delightful graham cracker crust and whipped cream it was the stuff food-gasms are made of.  They  have a full bar and a tasteful wine list to boot.
I think Evita is around the corner and going to be playing at the Arsht Center in May so maybe when I'm feeling brave enough to belt out "Dont' Cry for Me Argentina" I'll be back to show 'em how its done and try some of the other mouth watering menu items.
What a gem! Came here late on a Friday with high hopes since I've heard nothing but good things. I was not disappointed. Since my +1 used to be a regular (he used to perform there), he gave me a grand tour which included the separated patio lounge and then lead me inside where most of the guests are. The darkness takes a bit to get used to, but it's charming, cozy, and sexy all in one.
We didn't order any food, just drinks and a side of awesome live music. Places like Magnum are in my experience few and far between in Miami, which makes it all that more special. Will definitely come back to check out some of the other live acts.
You could walk right by if you werent looking for it. Through the back door and into a comfortable speakeasy interior. Piano centered between the dining room and bar area. I brought my boyfriend here for valentines and Jeffrey's(the proud owner) delivered. The singers were asking for requests from each of the couples which gave the start treatment. Then dinner started and it was delicious. We shared crab cakes which were tasty and chock full of crabmeat. I had the salmon which was a huge portion and my bf had the banana snapper and his piece of fish was awesome. The snapper was a larger piece of fish than mine and was mouthwatering. We were so full and pleased when we left! Only note I would make would be after you leave, drive or have a cab waiting for you. Not the easiest place to grab a taxi.
Review Source:If you're down darlings, put a little more mascara on and take yourself to Magnum. You'll enter through what appears to be the door to a private house or perhaps a speakeasy. Down a hallway you'll go to be greeted by the proud owner Jeffrey. In front of you is the piano bar where all kinds of merriment is taking place. To the left Jeffrey will escort you in the oh so dim lighting to a table. One of which has wing back chairs on either side. The walls are a dark red. The food is divine and there's a desert cart constantly being wheeled around. Jeffrey will give you a little flash light and after dinner will offer a complimentary glass of port. The cocktails are enormous and the escargot is the best i've ever had. The filet mignon melts in your mouth like butter. The restaurant part of this wonderful establishment closes around 11 pm. Then the second round of entertainment begins at the piano bar until 2am. This place was used for a location shot in the TV series Magic City. Madames et monsieurs you will think you've arrived at a mini cage aux folles. Samuel Johnson said "if a man is tired of London, He is tired of life" And I say"If a man or woman does'nt enjoy Magnum they are tired of Life! So welcome to the best time in Miami, you've arrived at your home away from home.
Review Source:Can I give this place 10 stars???? Oh please Yelp?? I LOVEEE Magnum, it is as good as it gets and them some.
Great music, showtunes, piano, delicious food, seductive ambiance and spot on service. What More Can You Ask For???
I come here as often as I can and with my move closer to the area, I will be here even more. I love ALL their places (well no, I did not enjoy the crab quesadilla and neither did my date that night). Although, everything else is great. I have tried either by ordering myself or trying other people's food. SO delicious. Even my stingy brothers do not mind coming by here and spending a bit of cash :)
I went here for my birthday and they made the night very special. Even let one of my friends sing for me while the piano played the song she chose :) I felt like a superstar!
They always great you as if they haev known you for years and the host always brings an after dinner cocktail, which is yummy.
This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Miami and I know plenty of people who share in the same feeling.
I cannot BELIEVE I have not already reviewed this place but THANK YOU Yelp for reminding me:)
See you at Magnum!
.
Fantastic!! Went here to celebrate my birthday. Great experience. Small tasty menu, with a personal touch on every dish. Got to meet the owner, who not only introduced his menu, but also shared a round of drinks with us. Â The ambiance, the service, I could go on forever, but to sum it all up everyone is treated like royalty.
Review Source:Just a short update: I recently had dinner at Magnum on a Saturday night. They had a special, that's unfortunately not permanently on the menu -- the roasted duck. If you see it among the specials, ORDER IT! It was perfectly crispy, with a side of veggies and sweet potato mash. Delicious!
From what I understand, they'll have a great special for Thanksgiving Day this Thursday. I know they'll be serving turkey, but I hope they also do the duck special!
This place is special, it lots of different things: bar, lounge, piano bar, restaurant; everything fused together, so its hard to review but I will keep it down to the food. Great service, personable and attentive (mind you, it was tuesday). Food was pretty good and it was a lot of it, it can be a bit pricey for the area. The added entertainment is a nice touch (if you are into show tunes), we had a romantic school day dinner :)
Review Source:Great place!! The ambience brought me back in the 50's as soon as i came in... Dimmed lit  hallway, red painted walls with pictures all over, and a warm environment. .. this place exudes a lot of flavor!
Carl and Russel were singing when i came in. These two were awesome!! They could sing almost anything from different decades.. the 60's, 70's, contemporary ones, or even  broadway shows like  the Sound of music, Les Miserables, Dreamgirls, etc., Oh, I was in heaven belting out from my seat!! The crowd seemed to have a lot of fun too as they sing along!! Â
The food was great, their fried chicken is out of this world!! The dessert cart was filled with attractive treats... my sweet tooth was really satisfied!
The staff are  fantastic...great service, and  friendly environment!
I would have never expected to find this sparkling jewel in this part of Miami!
Definitely a place to check out!
Bartenders are lovely. Lounge is gorgeous, ambiance is elegant and the music is quite wonderful. I went with friends for a cocktail and some live Piano music.
A huge draw back on this gem of a lovely piano bar is that smoking is allowed after the restaurant stops serving dinner and kitchen is closed.
Born and raised in Miami I love finding new spots (new to me) to check out because I get very tired of the same old same old. Thanks to my fellow yelpers I discovered Magnums and visited over the weekend  with my boyfriend and loved it.
What makes this piano bar so amazing is that the drinks are so cheap!!! $6 for a black on the rock, $6 for a premium vodka cosmo! Umm yes please! Premium drinks at these prices are pretty much the key to my heart and guarantee I will return.
Another factor that separates this piano bar from any other bar in Miami is the service. Most places you go bartenders are rude and just want your money. Here the staff is so nice and really make you feel like they are happy you are there and want to make sure you are enjoying yourself. What impressed me the most is when the bartender came from behind the bar walked me to a booth and poured my martini for me fresh from the shaker and later on in the night came again from behind the bar to make sure my boyfriend and I were enjoying our drinks. This is the first and only time I have received that type of service from a bartender.
The bar is on the part of Biscayne where it starts dipping towards a not so good area but they have parking in their back lot which is free and they have an attendant siting outside keeping an eye on the cars so there is no need to worry. The inside is decorated very nicely and reminds me of a romantic dimly lit French bar.
On a night where you are looking to do something different and not break the bank this is definitely a place worth checking out. Thank you Magnum for the great service! We will be back very soon!
I joined a group of friends to celebrate a dear friends birthday party! Â My only problem with the place was that they did not have our seating available that we had reserved. Â We where a bit cramped! Party of 10 sitting in a table for 6, and they added a small end table. Â =( Â
Its a dark and very cute place. Great crowd and the piano man was very enthused, although of course the one song i asked for, "whatever Lola wants" by Ela Fitzgerald he didn't know. FML!
I had the french onion soup and although everyone Loved it, i thought it was just OK. I've had better. Â sorry. Â
I am quite sure that I'll revisit this place with my friends who adore it and maybe I'll have a better review next time. Â
I'll be back magnum lounge, but this time you better have my table!
After months of ranting and raving about how much I love Magnum lounge!! And insisting on wanting some sort of party there...my boyfriend threw me a surprise Birthday Party @ Magnum lounge this past weekend! Â
And I must reiterate how much I LOVE this place!!!!!! Â Perfect spot for a bachelorette party, birthday party or any night you just wanna have a great gay ol' time!!!
I love you Magnum!!!!
So I went back to Magnum Lounge this past Saturday for my friend Jackie S' surprise party. Once again had a great time.
Let me stress that one of the best things about this place is the food. The fish dip is heaven. The French onion soup is the best I have ever had.
Piano player was the same one from last time. He's great. Takes request and all.
Once again had a GREAT time at this place. My favorite little secret location in South Florida.
Great Place
Before you walk in to this Place , you might think  awww not a great spot from outside . Please go in , Have a drink at the bar first , Piano is right next to Bar , so you are next to the piano and singing, out of no where fun fun place , The Atmosphere is great , good wibe  . I had an ossobucco was awesome , service was attentive . I ll be back there soon
Magnum Lounge is definitely a nice fun place to be. The crowd is basically gay with a number of lesbians and few straights tossed in which add up to being a good, diverse, entertaining mixture of people. Add to that the very good bartenders, great live piano music, a dim red, sort of velvet/cabaret décor, some pretty good food and you generally have winner of a winner of a place.
There is also the outside Shack Bar which tends to be very relaxed, serving some really good cocktails. It's really nice to be able to go outside, catch a breath of fresh air and have a change of atmosphere without having to do any pub crawl or bar hopping.
I'm a fan of the place, but there are some downsides, like being located on 79th street in Miami. That area is certainly far from being even on the moderate let alone on the upscale of things. I certainly wouldn't care to venture outside of the fenced in, gated area.
Then, though the food is pretty darn good, it isn't any bargain considering the prices charged. The service, however, seemed to be good, attentive and accommodating.
Parking can also be a little shaky as the lot inside the fence fills up rather quickly as the place is clearly popular.
We went to Magnum after dinner at around 10:30 PM. Â Driving by, it doesn't look like much, but when you get inside it has an awesome look and feel.
When you go around the back and park there is a really nice guy helping you find the empty spot and navigate around the crowded parking lot. Â There are two parts to Magnum, Magnum itself (piano bar/lounge and restaurant) and "the Shack" (a little outdoor tiki bar-ish place) which is more low key and casual. Â Outside, they serve STRONG drinks in plastic cups, but inside everyone is drinking wine out of nice glasses. Â Inside of Magnum there is the bar and piano area and also a nice dining area.
We did not eat there, so I cannot speak about the food, but the atmosphere was fantastic! Â It had a lounge like, cabaret feel, with ambient reddish lighting, and unique decor. Â The vibe at this place can be described as friendly and welcoming. Â This place is very gay friendly, but there are all types in attendance and everyone feels welcome. Â The pianist playing the night we were there was very talented, and there were some talented singers joining him with a range of operatic to broadway styles.
I highly recommend checking this place out.
Man was I surprised by this place! First off, it is like entering an old Parisian piano bar/cabaret. Dim red lighting, red velvet everywhere, and a piano as the main focus point. I have yet to try the food so I cannot comment on that, but the bar and the music is worth the trip.
My experience there is that once the dinner service is over, the patrons are mostly gay therefore, if you are not comfortable with that, then I would say this place might not be for you. Personally I am not gay, but I have had "fabulous" times each and every time I have been there. Great people and great music whether DJ or actual singers.
I recommend it.
I've dined at Magnums at least 20+ times, here is what it's all about:
1-Fritters! They are served with the bread and I always eat them all before the entree.
2-Music! It's always a good time with showtunes and drunks performing them
3-Ambiance! A vibrant crowd of locals ranging from late-night drinkers to early-bird seniors. Everyone has a good time.
4-Porto! Jeffrey introduced us to the sweet dessert wine almost 10 years ago and we enjoy the after dinner drink with him every time.
The Food is sometimes great, sometimes just OK. Always ask for the specials though. Desserts are always great, but Im usually stuffed by then.
Excellent restaurant, great service and a fun little Piano bar. Has a very old school but romantic feel to it. Service is very personal, owner comes by to check on you and personally seats you. Â as other reviewers have said, very different from the regular Miami night spot but different in a good way.
This is a good place to relax and forget the world outside, watch people make fools of themselves at the Karaoke bar and just sit back and not do much at all. Don't be alarmed by how it looks from outside, inside is very different. Easy parking which is also nice in MIami
I also liked the gesture when the owner offered free glasses of port at the table to finish off.
A piano bar perfect for downing classic cocktails in a glamorous, drastically dark, and red all over setting straight out of old NY, some long-forgotten Hollywood film, or a tiny, hidden, side-street, European town. Basically, a charmer!
Once my eyes adjusted to the dark, it was love at first blurry sight. This place is all burlesque, boudoir, red. There is no cocktail menu just order a classic, I'd suggest a martini, the dirtier, the better, get filthy. There is a small, one-page bar menu.
The piano man serenades you all night and if you ask nicely he takes requests. For the record I asked for The Way We Were... I had to. Our waiter like a pianist is a NYer which only added to the charm. He even scolded us to get off our phones when he was reciting the night's specials.
The beignets are everything the reviews said they were, sweet, fluffy, addicting. As for the food, from the reviews I gather this place is hit or miss and I missed last night. The star of my dining experience was the mashed potatoes. The lamb and crab cakes missed the mark for me. The escargot was ok but not great. The jumbo shrimp with sweet chili sauce was the best appetizer. I hope I have better luck next time.
We did score some complimentary round of port wine shots. A round of sweet drinks and a sweet toast. I was told "all diners receive this complimentary wine."
I'm not sure why every bachelorette party doesn't start here and why more women aren't flocking here for GNOs (Girls Night Out) but I know I'll be back for a song and a cocktail and maybe some mashed potatoes.
Dépaysement! French lesson of the day: this word means a change of scenery, being  out of your element...  Magnum Lounge is the last place I would expect to find  in Miami but rather in New York or in Europe.
A piano bar is by definition a place for live music in a more intimate setting. Nice lounge music, a crooner singing, I half expect to see elderly couples dancing around... when I entered the room, I traveled back in time. Very 1920's, red everywhere, a boa hanging behind the piano, me lip singing "Your song", a birthday celebration with a small Yelp crowd to criticize everything... a delightful evening. Happy Birthday JL!
Not familiar with the area I still found the place easily. From the outside the lounge is not attracting your eye but once you get in you feel somewhere else. I love the atmosphere here, very relaxing.  The food seemed to be average in general. A nice choice in the menu: calamari, conch fritters, jumbo shrimps, crab cakes, escargot, ... for appetizers. Entrees seemed  a bit pricey: lamb, roast pork,...
Nothing exceptional for  my mouth. My escargots were nice with creamy blue cheese sauce, the kind of soufflé that came with it was not the best thing to add. Desserts seemed very sugary: chocolate and peanut butter cake, milky way cake, cherry cheesecake. Tried a few bites from the first two... not a fan.
This is a place to come for its nice setting and atmsophere but not for a culinary extasy. Â Still a lovely place for a romantic date ;)
This review is long over due.
On Jose Luis' reco we came here in December for Emilio's birthday. It was a weekday, and the bar was not too full, so we were able to grab a corner of the bar, pull up a few stools and gather round without blocking too much space from other patrons.
There are two rooms, one with the bar, the other is a sit-down restaurant; divided by a small wall and the piano.
I really liked the live piano music they have, and the piano player was pretty friendly (especially with the handsome men who approached him). He takes requests and knows a lot of songs; mostly Sinatra-ish music, so be prepared to dance a slow one if you'd like.
The only thing I didn't love about the restaurant was the entertainment on the TV screens around the bar. It seems there was a variety show type of "show" on, where the men were all naked, dancing Rockette-style and all. Yup - you read right - NAKED MEN. I'm usually not bothered to see a naked man, everyone is entitled to their own dress code, but when it's 10+ men dancing in a kickline, it can be a little disturbing, especially after you've had a few drinks.
With that said, I'm sure by now you've figured out the type of crowd this bar caters. So, do not be alarmed if by last call you see a man getting close to your bf/husband and rubbing his back all up and down as he asks for a cigarette :-) It was quite the evening; entertaining and definitely an amusing way to start a new year.
My girlfriends and I decided to try Magnum last night. We had heard great things about it and were excited to get out of our dining rut. I have to say that we were very disappointed. The food is overpriced and just ok. The pistachio chicken I ordered was so bland. The decor and ambiance are different from the typical Miami spots but then again so is Fox's and their food is much tastier, bigger portions, and comes with a salad.
The pros: drinks were a good price, free parking, the beignets were great, and  the show tunes playing were fun.
Magnum lounge is incredible!!
The piano is playing, the show tunes are belted out, the food is served...and what DELICIOUS food it is!!! The best food I've had at any restaurant thus far! There were these little fried-doughy-breads with powdered sugar on top...TO DIE FOR!! The cheesecake is like none I have ever tasted. Everything was just so fresh!! The food is reason enough to take a trip to Magnum!
We really enjoyed the show tunes too and the piano playing. It was so much fun!!
The only thing I have to say against it is that the drinks aren't the best and the waiter got our order mixed up. But everything else is so great we had to overlook that.
Make sure to make a trip to Magnum. You won't regret it!!

My first review-/////deep sigh////.
I haven't been to Magnum in a over a year, so my review is dated. Â The establishment is around the corner from my condo and I dropped in a few times for a drink. Â I found the bartender easy on the eyes, personable and, when we both discovered the other was a father to a young son, he was very engaging. Â Drink prices were resonable and, having taken music lessons for 10 years, I really enjoyed the piano player. Â
I've taken dates to the dining area a couple of times but have found the food to be over priced for what you get. Â But all in all, at least a year ago, I enjoyed my visits.
I was hanging at my favorite watering hole, the Boy Bar in Normady Village and learned from some of the other patrons that Magnum had added a new 'tikki' bar, so I'll have to drop in again soon.
Clientele: Â Mostly Middle age professionals of the gay persuasian. Â

After all the rave reviews about this spot, I finally decided to go. My review does not reflect the masses because I found this spot just OK.
I agree it is different from the typical Miami scene. The crowd is very diverse (age, gender, sexual orientation), which I love and appreciate.
The food was OK...nothing extra special, the ambiance is cool and chic, and the staff is ultra friendly.
The piano karaoke is quite cool. However the only people singing were elderly folk. Wish the younger folk would have joined to keep the vibe up tempo. Most reviews compare this spot to an Urban lounge in NYC, but that wasn't my experience (and I'm from NYC). Urban is not the correct word to describe this spot.
Next time I return, I wouldn't have a sit down dinner. Rather, I would have a drink and chill at the bar as that is where the most fun is happening.
To be honest, the ratio of older folk (50+), was so high that it took away that chic urban vibe. Although it is a nice spot, it is not what I expected.
Yelpers,
YOu have to go to Magnum Piano Lounge. This place is so RAD. I went for the fisrt time last Friday and the next day too (saturday), I fall in love with this place.
I spent the whole night there. I have never seen a place like this in Miami; I felt like I was in some urban bar in New York .
It has three different areas which are:
1. Karaoke Little House. Which is located in a separate buillding (a few steps from the main piano bar.)
2. Pation, with red couches and zebras couches.
3. Piano Bar (smoker's zone)
4. Dinning Room. (same floor as Piano bar)
inside its really dark, the walls are red,  red velvet curtains, and the interior design its ecclectic with a touch of the french traditional. I don't know how to describe the type of  music,  I will called it showtune music or standar music, because most of the live music was like old musical movies. Oh! And its not a gay bar even though most of the people that go are gay.
Oh, hell yes. Yelpers, you rock. Went on a Friday despite a local Miami friend's utter disdain of the place (for no reason I could discern) because you Yelpers were so adamant about it. Loved it!
Our one regret is not having gone earlier in the evening, because we only got to hear about 1.5 hours of the piano player. He stops at 12:30, sharp. Bang.
My friend, herself a performer, practically ran to the piano and asked him to do "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." A couple of minutes into her singing and the owner, Jeffrey, was at our table, asking who her manager was and could he buy us some shots. He was charming and affable and lent even more fun to the place.
We'd already eaten, which was too bad, because the food looked really good. Okay, well, even though we'd already eaten, we still had to order some fried chicken, and it was yummy!
If you have any fondness for show tunes, piano bars and/or truly chill lounges, you canNOT go to Miami and not try Magnum.
Ha! This place is so rad.
Bring your red velvet smoking jacket and your sequin shoes because you will be transported to a strange alternate reality where everything is just right when you walk in the door.
Also the food was good and anywhere that brings me hot beignets with dinner is an instant classic. Kudos to Jordan for the first review on this one.
