Been ordering from Mayflower for years.  SOMEtimes they deliver food
hot and  ready-to-eat but most often it needs to be microwaved.
Not good for the egg rolls, which become mushy, and are -just- fair
     (too much cabbage).

Stopped in last night to treat my g/f, she loves beef & peapods and Sesame
Chicken (ask for extra 'gravy', though; next-day Chinese is much better if
you've got this) and made the mistake of ordering sweet & sour pork....

I have NO idea why they think they're making this right; the pork is battered
and then deep-fried (?!?!?!) rather than being cooked in sweet/sour sauce
which, based on [mumble] years of experience, is THE way to prepare it.
Yuck!  Thankfully they gave me a refund.

The beef/peapods & Sesame Chicken (large order only) were good once
reheated, the eggrolls so-so.  The combo fried rice was abundant, as was
the freebie! chicken fried rice (order enough stuff, they toss in various items).

Again, it's not "A-OK" IMNSHO, 2 1/2 stars, but better than most.

Pluses:  big parking lot, other attractions if you desire other than Chinese
Food: Jewel, Subway, Pizza Hut,  a dry-cleaners and a beauty parlor.
Who could ask for anything more?

       (me!  how about a theatre?!)

Hands down theeeee worst Chinese food I have ever eaten in my entire life. And I'm definitely not exaggerating. I work in the same strip mall as this place but I had never eaten there until fairly recently. I called maybe 30 minutes after they had opened, and ordered a very simple meal. Long story short,I was rushed off the phone by someone who could learn more English from a toddler. Seriously,I was surprised when he repeated my order back to me and it was right. After getting my food,I took two bites of it and gave into one of my co-workers. The portion size was reasonable but the food itself was terrible! Never...ever again.

The best? No. But it is pretty good.  Better than a lot of other places. The peopleare friendly.  I'll keep going here.

Ok, I should know better then to try to repeat an experience.  Ordered from Mayflower a couple of weeks ago after a long hiatus and the food was great, plus it arrived super fast, 30 minutes. Now two weeks later I am still sitting waiting for the food and it's been over an hour and fifteen minutes.  Just called for the second time and told "dirver already left"  not sure what that means exactly but he's still not here.

Got to find another Chinese take out in the area as Mayflower is off the list.

We just moved in the area in Dec. & tried one place & it wasn't so great. Friends told me about May Flower & we tried it tonite.  OMG! The best crab rangoon I've ever had!! I thought the egg rolls were great, but, I prefer the little cups of sweet sour sauce over the packets & I have had better hot & sour soup, but, the sweet & sour chicken was very good & my husband had beef chops suey which was also very good & the meat was very tender. Definitely will go back!

This was my favorite take-out place several years ago. I live a bit out of the way now, so I've only been there perhaps three times this past year.

Their dinner specials are usually a great deal: Entree; eggroll; fried rice; and soup for around $9.00 and are large portions. The hot and sour soup is pretty yummy and has the right balance of vinegar and spice. Their eggrolls are usually pretty tasty as well.  Usually ordering chicken, I have been disappointed in the most recent orders and have been served over-fried, over-cooked pieces. It's been like chewing leather (or what I imagine leather would taste like if eaten). Try something with beef or tofu (I think pork will be like the chicken) or plain vegetables.

Service can be improved. You have to repeat everything to the cashier. I have never ordered over the phone, so I don't know how that goes.

Will go back if I am nearby and in need for greasy, semi-decent chinese food. I would not go out of the way to return to Mayflower if I am not in the area. Try the soup and the appetizer

It's safe, decent Chinese food at a very reasonable price.  It's the first place that comes to my mind when Chinese take out comes up.

    Decent greasy chinese food.

The combination fried rice was good minus the burnt bits, had lots of yummy meat and was not thinned out with tons of veggies.

Tried a mango smoothie it was good and huge a great value for $3 however it did have some unidentifiable strands of what could have been plastic or could have been something edible, not really sure yet but it was 2 days ago and I am still alive so.....*thunk, head hitting keyboard*

I would go back in a serious pinch but there are definitely better places in the vicinity.

Average at best. Take the time to go to or call Hunan Wok. They're on Bryn Mawr at Kimball. Much better!!

Greasy !! You will need to change your clothes after you leave this place from the grease chinese food smell. Food is salty but the portions are large. Dishes tend to be swimming in the sauce. Mongolian beef was disappointing.

This is a small, strip-mall located Chinese place near my work which is pretty standard fare. However, the meat, chicken and shrimp they use are better quality than most Chinese places and the won-ton soup is hands down the best I have ever tasted in Chicago. They hand make the won tons in the kitchen as you watch. They use plenty of pork. The only complaint I have heard is that its a little too fatty, but I'll still take it on a cold day or if you are home sick. The lunch and dinner portions are ample and include an egg roll and shrimp fried rice.
They also deliver as far down as Addison which is a bonus.

Ive been ordering from this place for a long time.  Your basic run of the mill chinese take out joint.  Consistent and dependable.  Ive never ordered anything that I knew I would never order again.  But theres not much that stands out as over the top.

The one thing that I always make sure to include in the order : Chicken wings!!  Crispy, greasy goodness!  Six pieces for $2.25 +tax.

I've ordered from here several time and just like any other Chinese takeout I'm very careful on what I order. I'm not a big fan of Americanized Chinese takeout but once in a while I'll give it a try. The food is average and pricing is about average for a takeout restaurant.

OK, I've had some bad Chinese food in my  day, but man, this was awful.  So bad it induced me to sign up for Yelp to share the experience.  I ordered szechuan broccoli because I wanted to have some vegetables for lunch.  What I got was a dish of bamboo shoots and water chestnuts in a thick, greasy, flavorless brown sauce, decorated with about six sad little overcooked pieces of yellowish broccoli.  It was disgusting.  I took out the broccoli -- I had to eat SOMETHING -- and threw out the rest.  On the plus side, if my stomach could have kept it down, there was a whole lot of the mess there. Water chestnuts and bamboo shoots are about the cheapest things you can put in a Chinese dish -- clearly they just wanted to save money by not having fresh vegetables involved.  What a waste.  My stomach is sad.

We use to live in the neighborhood and we ordered almost weekly Hunan Spicy Chicken from this restaurant.  Al large portion is big enough for two. Now we moved to Schaumburg and tried few Chinese places but non are good as here. Every time we'll go to Chicago will stop to this place and have Hunan Chiken- is so goooodddd.  Try it!

Among the many paradoxes in our universe there is this: sometimes bad is good.  Mayflower Chinese is a "so bad its good" kind of place.  Its greasy, its salty, and its not entirely sanitary-- but God help me, sometimes its all I crave and there is no satisfying until I get it!

Its a dingy little storefront Chinese kitchen.  Standard Chinese-American fare.  I almost always get the lunch/dinner specials which include generous portions of fried rice, an egg roll, and soup with the dinner special.  Prices are pretty good, most things run about a dollar cheaper than other spots in the neighborhood.  Food is always served hot, and its tasty.  Like I said, greasy and salty can really hit the spot sometimes.  I get the Kung-Pao chicken most often-- not overly spicy and has big pieces of ginger and vegetables for some flavor depth.

Delivery is not always timely; so I usually do carry-out.  Nothing about it is really stellar, but it's cheap and it's pretty yummy most of the time.

I'm from the Midwest so I like my Chinese food Americanized and greasy.  My family has been ordering from this place for years - the stuff crab ragoon (basically imitation crab meat and loads of cream cheese deep fried in a shell) to the sweet and sour chicken which is literally diabetic coma inducing to the shrimp fried rice and mongolian beef.

My family and I go all out b/c we're fatties so with 2 orders of crab ragoon, 2 orders of shrimp fried rice, 1 order of mongolian beef, 1 order of sweet and sour chicken, 1 order of general tsa's chicken rounds out to be $40. SAWEEET. Oh and we get complimentary egg rolls and fortune cookies.

    Greasy goodness galore!

Pretty good for a fast food place.  I always order the Kung Pao beef lunch special, which comes with chicken fried rice and an egg roll.  Tender beef with diced carrots, bell pepper, peanuts, and whole dried chilis.  The vegetables are always crisp and portions are huge.  My bf loves loves their crab rangoon, which has bits of veggies in it.  He's also a fan of their strawberry smoothies.  Delivery is fast and the food always arrives piping hot.

Honestly, I don't even know what a quarter of the entrees here taste like, and I ate here practically every week in high school. But the reason Mayflower is so near and dear to me is because I adore their fried chicken wings. It's in the appetizer section and it's six pieces of salty, greasy deliciousness for under $2. There are times when I even used to get two orders of the chicken wings (I had a hearty appetite, alright) and a thing of white rice-- and that would be my dinner. I haven't gone back in awhile so I don't know if the recipe has changed or if they've hiked up the price . . but, boy, was that chicken good . . .

Seriously some of the worst chinese food I've ever had.

I ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken & veggie egg rolls. Hard to screw up right?

It was tough, and over fried - the sweet and sour sauce tasted more like watered down ketchup.  The rolls were so crunchy that they fell apart after one bite.  Gross.

I do  have to say they do serve large portions - even the small order was too much for me to eat, and I was hungry.

I was impressed by the big menu, but they might do better to choose a few dishes that they can prepare really well.

It must be more of a carry out place, as the place was totally empty.  The atmosphere is bland, and there was a health inspection notice that noted they had one violation: dirty kitchen utensils! I should have left then.

There are better places in the city.   This is close to home, but I'd rather drive.

Im from NY where the  chinese food is always excellent so to find good chinese food here in chicago had been a challenge...UNTIL NOW.

I always order either the salt and pepper shrimp, or shrimp w/ garlic sauce....BOTH are extremly delish and makes it hard for me to choose. Great portions!!! Great service....They deliver and are prompt and courteous.

This place has been here for years and makes the great home date combo with a blockbuster videos right next door.

You place your order(their dinner menu which includes egg roll, soup and shrimp fried rice is pretty extensive) also yes portions are big, so one dinner combo can feed 2 nicely so I always order an appetizer(bbq ribs are mighty tasty(not your smoked Honey 1 type, but marinated and oven done tender finger licking good)

Then you walk over to blockbuster and with your date pick out a movie(if you have on demand or satellite, you can pretend to pick out a movie)

Then less than 20 minutes later, your food is ready to take home.

There is a small dining area with seating for 12, but not much ambiance. Take it home!

    Holy out of control portions!

I went to the p's for dinner last night, and my mom decided that Chinese takeout would be an adequate replacement for the home cooked grub I was promised.  Not quite.  But hey, beggars can't be choosers!

I was feeling kind of sick, so the won-ton soup was a perfect touch.  I think this dish should really be called "bucket of won-tons with a bit of soup drizzled on top."

If you like shrimp with lobster sauce, you MUST order it from Mayflower!  Again, we received a bucket sized portion loaded with FRESH shrimp.  The sauce was flavorful and not too salty.  Perfect!

So, you may be wondering why 3 stars?  Oh, I'll tell you why...

The eggrolls were AWFUL!  And the crab rangoon seemed to taste just like the awful eggrolls.  It's like the absorbed the flavor like a sponge.  Blech!

AND it took our order over an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive.  My parents live about 1/2 a mile away.  Please explain how that's possible.  Had they told us up front, fiiiiiine.  But when quoted 30 minutes, it's pretty much inexcusable.
