Had an assistant manager come unglued and scream across the bar to quit complaining about no volume on the FB game on the TV... Along with, pay you bill and leave. This type of despicable customer service seems to be condoned by management. Obviously, no one in this business has watch a show like Restauanr Stakeout where they strive to make the customer king.
Review Source:I have eaten here many times. Â The food is ok. Â Of course the beer is good, but there is a lot better microbeer out there now. The service is slow. Â I went out back to smoke a cigarette and saw a few of the mcmenamins employees smoking marijuana out back in the parking lot. Â I wasnt sure thats what they were doing at first, but I could smell the marijuana in the air, and when the employees passed me to come in the back door I could smell it. Â Would you want someone on weed cooking or preparing your food? Â I guess mcmenamins doesn't drug test and that is what attracts the pot head employees? Â It didn't bother me and I kept on coming in for lunch. Â Then one day when I sat at the bar for a quick burger for lunch, it took forever and when it arrived the patty was literally bloody. Â I mentioned it to the blond cook behind the bar. Â When I told her, I swear her eyes were bloodshot and she looked stoned. Â This is the last time I eat at this mcmenamins. Â I am not going to risk eating there and getting sick.
Review Source:We've been here many times and generally the experience rates about three stars. But today we stopped in for lunch, and waited and waited just to get menus while the servers darted around from table to table, somehow always bypassing ours. They were moderately busy, We finally got menus, but no offer to take a drink order...So we waited and waited some more. When the server showed up at the table next to us to drop of drinks, we thought "woo hoo, I bet he's going to take our order now." Nope. He turned and walked back the opposite direction. So we gave it a couple more minutes and pulled the plug. I waved at the waiter on our way out. He waved back. I think he had no idea we were leaving because he didn't bother to serve us.
Review Source:Years ago, I used to think that the beers offered by McMenamins were "on the edge." Now, after being exposed to a plethora of microbrews, it turns out that Terminator Stout is just a very dry, slightly bitter, nearly flavorless black beer. Maybe, years ago, it was on the edge; now, McMenamins, it's time to step up your game.
The mushroom burger was nearly as lifeless as the beer, and our tatted-up waitress gave the impression that she would rather be lots of other places.
The Cajun fries were pretty good though, and saved this place from slipping into the Yelp Abyss.
Ordered a vodka cran here on a very slow Friday night (what did I expect it is Beaverton).. I think they forgot the vodka, I'm a slow drinker but I slurped it up in about two sips.
We ordered chips and salsa, and I think it was the same stuff I have at home, so I was pretty disappointed. After that our server didn't come back for a while, and we just gave her the card to close. Won't be back again.
Ever.
From the outside Oak Hills Brewpub looks like a cozy neighborhood bar. The kind of establishment that the Oak Hills area has been long needing. However, step inside and you are immediately confronted with wooden booths, quirky artwork, bizarre beers, slow and chaotic service, and Grateful Dead music playing in the background. You have just entered the world of McMenamins. Like entering the Twilight Zone it is probably too late to turn back. One can just hope that the experience will be a memorable one.
Not happening. It took forever for our server to arrive at our table. When she did come she immediately realized that she had seated us without giving us menus. This added more time to our meal. Luckily our waitress brought us some beers. The Hammerhead beers helped calm our nerves. We stupidly ordered appetizers which made our already long dinner even longer.
Speaking of appetizers, Oak Hills Brewpub offers a delicious Hummus plate. Have had this dish at other McMenamins and it's a scrumptious dish of hummus, pita bread, olives, pickled onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers. McMenamins hummus plate is like the perfect appetizer to go with beer.
Things started going downhill when the fried egg fell out the back of my burger. Actually the fried egg was more like a scrambled egg. My whole burger was a mess of egg, lettuce, hamburger, and tomato. Absolutely awful. The accompanying home cut fries were not much either. My dinner companions were not impressed with the tater tots. The gyros was beef gyros that was a little too much on the spicy side.
With a McMenamins restaurant by golly you know what you're getting. They are incredibly consistent across their chain of restaurants. Oak Hills Brewpub, just like other McMenamins restaurants, never leaves me completely unsatisfied. The hummus plate washed down by the Hammerhead beer was such a pleasant experience. Why oh why can't McMenamins improve their service and their food quality?
We live close and sometimes out of desperation for a nearby burger and beer, we forget the absolutely heinous service and go back thinking it'll be different. It's not. Our last lunch visit on a Saturday for 2 beers and 2 burgers took literally 1 hour 45 minutes.
Unless you have a very flexible time frame which allows you to wait 20 minutes to get your order taken, another 15 for your beer to arrive, then an indefinite amount of time for what is not a bad burger and good beer, drive elsewhere. The indecent wait is made all the worse by the staff's refusal to acknowlege you or how long you've been waiting to eat, in any way. MAYBE if you're lucky, about 10 minutes after your beer is totally empty, someone will approach and ask if you'd like another (add 10 more min) - but forget about a status update on your food. Not happening.
This is CONSISTENTLY the situation. Seriously, you could drive to a number of far superior, locally owned bars/pubs in NW Portland (about 20 min away), find parking, be seated and still get your food faster than had you waited at McMenamins Oak Hills. Truly. And this is what we do, now...
The food is decent and the atmosphere is nice, but I went in on a friday afternoon for happy hour with a friend and they were completely understaffed. The waiter was scrambling around like a chicken with his head cut off. Then when we asked for ranch to accompany our tater tots he got mouthy. If he knew the menu like he should he would have realized that peppercorn ranch comes on the side. I suggest he checks himself next time. Oh wait there won't be a next time.
Review Source:This place sits in a strip mall that is easy to get into, but can be difficult exiting if you have to turn left since traffic on the street can get heavy and there's no light.
When I went there for a quick dinner I was very surprised at the size of the place because from the outside it looks small. Â Pretty much was in the mood for a beer and burger and that's exactly what I ordered. Â The burger was awesome, especially with the fried egg on top.
I asked for a suggestion on the beer because I did not want anything to blow away my pallet and wanted to taste the burger. Â The server suggested the amber, the beer went with the burger marvelously.
The service was fast, friendly, and accurate.
I will definitely go back here when I am back in town, but that will be a while to say the least.
Let me start off with what they do good, tatter tots and fries I love them. Now lets get into the real good stuff. Service and how long it takes to get anything in this restaurant is horrible. I will never go to McMenimins unless I get dragged there. Unfortunately this place is very close to work, so everyone always seems to choose it, I dont know why we never get back to work within the hour. Takes about 20 minutes before they take your order, half hour to get any food, and even longer to get the check and get the hell out.
I have also had the same type of experience with the one off Cornelius pass. Unless you a couple of hours to eat at this establishment, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I guess I should be in Portland instead of Beaverton if I'm really trying to go for some Pac Northwest food. Because I didn't eat too healthy on this business trip. And coming here to McMenamins continued the streak.
My hosts were kind enough to take me out to dinner and we ended up here. Now I don't know the area very well, but the route I took to get here took me through some very small residential streets. Commonplace? I'm not quite sure.
Again, lots of great selections of brews. The variety of food wasn't that great and it might have just been too much greasy food for the week, but I wasn't blown away. Choosing between burgers, pizza, etc., wasn't ideal, so I'm probably not giving the most unbiased review here.
Service was decent from what I saw. Maybe if I run 3 miles before I'm ready to eat dinner I'll have a different perspective.
You guys scared the crap out of me.
I needed dinner in this area after 8pm, everything else was closed (what is Beaverton, a senior citizen village?! Â hehe) - so I figured I had no other choice but to check out McMenamins anyhow.
Service... was good.
I had no problem. The people around me also seemed to be doing OK as well - despite there not being too many servers available. Server dude even saved me from ordering too much.
Maybe they swapped out people, or I came on a good day.
Food was decent.
Had the Cajun Cobb - the chicken is nicely seasoned with a bit of a kick. A nice portion of bacon, nice amount of egg. Just a good protein filled salad.
Atmosphere was laid back.
I liked it.
Review is only for the Oak Hills location.
The ONLY reason to go here is if you either 1) live in this area or 2) stop here on the way home from work to meet people who live in this area.
I am usually number 2 - I have a friend that lives in Oak Hills and we often do happy hour here after work. This is not a place that's worth going out of the way for.
The food and beer is typical McMenamins, which is to say its all about being average. We do particularly like the Margarettas here at happy hour and tend to order mostly those.
3 stars because the service is usually poor, though every now and then its normal.
So I love this place because its close to my house, I don't have to worry about trying to sell wine to them when I am there eating, they have wifi so I can get work done while I eat, and they have pretty good food and beer. Â
What I don't love? Â Most of the staff. Â There is a waitress there who is really nice and always remembers what I want, and when she gets busy, you can tell she is trying to get to everyone. Â BUT the rest of the staff is unfriendly, likes to bitch a lot, and needs to get a freaking reality check. Â Reminds me of all the idiots I used to hate working with when I was a waitress... you know... that girl who never shuts up about how "busy" she is, yet she has the time to stand there and complain? Â So, go for the food and beer, but don't expect great service. Â Unless you get the little brunette. Â Then you're golden.
To be clear, this 2 star rating is ONLY for this location, not for all McMenamins.
The food here is the same as all McMenamins, the 2 star is given for the BAD service. Â I went there for lunch in the middle of the week (around 12:30). Â It was about half empty when we got there. Â The waiter got our order in decent amount of time although he didn't know the details of the special burger. Â Now the bad part.. It was 40 minutes (!) before we got the burgers and the waiter didn't even apologize after we inquired about it. Â It wasn't even that crowded!
As fas as McMenamins go, this one is OK with me. Usually the service is as bad as the food, but the service here is above average.
While it is in a strip mall, they do actually brew beer here and are pretty cool in talking about what they're making back there. (You can actually watch them through the windows)
The burgers are standard from McMenamins, but they have a few specialties here that are really good, like the spicy peanut chicken soup, turkey cobb salad and the chicken tenders are nice with panko breadcrumbs.
They are also pretty cool if you just want to grab a beer and hang out and use the free Wifi.
This place can easily become a second home when one lives within walking distance. This quaint little McMenamins, concealed between an odd selection of business, has the familiar feel of a neighborhood pub with the same solid food and beer selection that McMenamins offers. It is rarely crowded at this McMenamins, which makes the service slightly better than say, Kennedy School.
The highlight of this location, however, is found during Happy Hour. Of all the McMenamins, I would contend that Oak Hills has the best Happy Hour values. Especially the Cheeseburger and fries for $3.75. Another feature of this location is the bread bowls of Clam Chowder that are served only of Fridays. They had Salmon chowder one time I went and it was nearly divine. Overall, this McMenamins is worth a stop if you're in the area between 4-6pm or 10:00pm -midnight. Oh and watch for the guy with the burley beard that appears occasionally to do some brewing. I've never talked to him, but with a beard like that he has to be an interesting guy.
Love the various Micks around PDX , tried this one out as I'll try them all someday hopefully. Â Waitress a little tweaky, dropping off the check without asking about dessert. Â Had the special Jerk Chix Salad, not bad. Â With all their touting of homemade and artisan everything, they need to step up with the french bread, though, which came with the salad. Â (Had this issue at other Memmas)- It's Safeway-bought quality. Son had the "Insane" Pizza bread - French bread pizza, basic cheese, sauce, pepperoni. Â Wife's wrap was cold - a wrap/tortilla tastes so much better if warmed up just a little bit. Â Fries were tired and shriveled. Hey but it's got cool art and the reliable brew.
Review Source:One of my favorite McMenamins. Â Still small and friendly, typical McMenamins food and beer, which is always good. Â The one by Cedar Hills Crossing now sucks because they've kinda sold out and gone big time instead of being the friendly neighborhood pub - this one still is that type of friendly pub. Â Definitely one we go to before the others. Â Some of the best service we've ever had at McMenamins too.
