I am hungry, horrified, embarrassed and berated.
Michael  remove your name before shamed!
I've done too many things in my life because of Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player to ever live. Â I have worn Nike's, drank Gatorade, and have even worn Hanes since I was a small child. Â All because of Michael Jordan. Â I even rooted for Kwame Brown, Popeye Jones, Tyrone Nesby, and the Washington Wizards when Mike was on the team. Â I am in Chicago right now and I have done another thing all because of him; I took my girlfriend to dinner at Michael Jordan's Steak House. Â This man, who has been retired from the game of basketball for ten years, still has a power over me at the age of 27.
I was extremely excited as I saw the sign for Michael Jordan's Steak House. Â The sign, in red, white, and black and its gold surroundings instantly reminded me of the man in a Bulls' jersey and his six championship rings. Â Located on the second floor, the restaurant is in a wonderful location that overlook's Downtown Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Â I ordered Mike's favorite steak on the menu, the "MJ's Prime Delmonico". Â I am not a steak connoisseur, so I honestly could not tell you the difference between a twenty dollar steak from Outback and a fifty dollar steak from MJ's or Morton's. Â Bottom line, it was a very juicy and tasty steak and I ate it at Michael Jordan's Steak House in Chicago. Â The restaurant was superb, from the views, ambiance, friendly staff, all the way to its decor. Â I recommend this restaurant to the Michael Jordan lover visiting Chicago that just has to be able to say they ate at MJ's as well as to locals just looking for an excellent steak at a restaurant that offers a first class experience.

I've eaten here twice, and I've been blown away by the food on both ocassions. The 10 oz Filet Mignon is very flavorable, and in this steak lover's opinion, I can honestly say it's the best steak I've ever tasted. The mashed potatos are also terrific. If you are looking for a delicious, special steak, look to Michael Jordan's Steakhouse.
Review Source:Between his Hall Of Fame speech, this Chamillionaire story <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dy4ZQERHL6ow&s=40f56a71b9a0fdcc7431aa491e054379d080881613f99d2d7d1db88b674695ed" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a> , and numerous other tales of MJ being an asshole I thought I'd be able to eat here without any sort of bias. Wrong. Seconds after sitting down I flashed back in my head to the infamous "flu game" and immediately thought "I'm giving this place an extra star even if it sucks."
Truth is... It didn't need it. I thought the food was awesome. Went for lunch with my folks and it was a really small and simple menu. Everything we tasted though was definitely worthy of wearing that 23 jersey...That is if food wore jerseys.
The bacon was like a meat candy bar, so thick you'd swear they somehow glued like 6 normal pieces together. Shrimp cocktail, same story. It took several bites to tackle one whole prawn and I can't say that that's ever happened to me before.
For the main course I went with the wagyu burger and in honor of the Greatest Of All Time I of course opted for that goat cheese on top. This thing was amazing. Quite possibly the burger equivalent of Jordan over Bryon Russell. Prepare for goosebumps.
I also tried my mom's grilled cheese, which was filled with that Lance Armstrong bacon and paired with a spicy tomato soup. There's nothing grilled cheese about this roided out bacon sandwich. Pretty much heaven between bread.
There's really nothing else I can say. If it has anything to do with Jordan it's more than likely gonna be 5 stars.
Went here with 2 for Restaurant Week. I arrived at the downstairs bar early, and one of the bartenders downstairs made me a rarely-ordered-by-me specialty cocktail with tequila and champagne that was delicious. Host staff was smiling and polite. Atmosphere is snazzy; dinner is upstairs from the bar and you feel like you're walking the runway on the catwalk from the stairs to the dining room.
As I always say, I'm in the biz, so I give credit where credit is due, and Kate, our server, deserves it. She was perfect. She wasn't there too little or too often, just the right amt of attentiveness with a genuine smile. She was so pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The bleu cheese fondue with what I think is cheesy garlic bread was deeeLICIOUS. I got the soup because it was obscure; carrot soup w/ mint. This is something I would never order but I didn't want just a salad so I tried it and it was yummy. We all got the filet and it was a perfect medium rare. The butter made it surprisingly, well, buttery...I know that sounds dumb but it was just so...creamy of a steak and so perfectly moist and saturated and tender and not only good in the middle, but every bite, that luscious color all the way through. And of course mushrooms are always welcome. I admit being surprised that it's one of the best steaks I've ever had but to my knowledge MJ's isn't the #1 steakhouse around...maybe it should be, my friends and I all thought it was awesome. The dessert was a chocolate mousse pyramid with caramel sauce and I usually don't eat dessert just because I'd rather eat the dinner part, hehe, but it came with, and I'd order it again. And when I can go back, I'll ask for Kate. Give that girl the good shifts!
We came here for lunch and I really enjoyed my experience. We had Edward as our waiter and he was very friendly and attentive.
We wanted to order the special of the day, but they were all sold out by the time we were ready to order. Â Thankfully the menu offered other delicious options.
We started with a shrimp cocktail. Â We had three jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce. Â The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce was not overbearing with horseradish. It was good.
As an entree we ordered the Colossal Crab Cake which came with meyer lemon aioli, shoestring potatoes, arugula. Â It was sooo good. The crab cake was chunks of crab and very little to no filler. Delicious!
We also ordered the Hanger Steak which was 8 oz. in size and came with pinot noir sauce and hand cut fries. Â The steak was tender and the hand cut fries were seasoned with a sweet and spicy spice. It was good and flavorful.
For dessert, we had the 23 layer chocolate cake. Â The cake was huge, creamy, and delicious. It was too large though and we were only able to eat half of it.
We ended up coming to this restaurant based upon a Travelzoo deal. The prices for lunch were not overly expensive. Â Everyone here was so nice from the host/hostess, bartenders, and wait staff. I would definitely come back for another dining experience!
Like many, many people did on Sunday, February 17th...my fiance, mother and I had dinner at MJ's in his honor. Due to this being a (huge) celebrity's eatery, opposed to an average joes' I will get straight to the point and let you know why I give four stars rather than five. Plain and simple, both my fiance and I made his allergy to shellfish aware and somehow there was a line of communication missed between the waitstaff, which ultimately caused him to have a reaction. Now to explain those four stars...first and foremost, I couldn't be more impressed or satisfied with the relentless accomodations made by the assistant general manager and entire waitstaff to rectify their mishap. Besides extending very genuine apologies many times over again, the staff went to the store for Benadryl, did not leave our table until we felt that the allergy was under control, the assistant general manager gave us his card for any further assistance, and lastly a very generous discount was applied to our bill. Although the worst thing that could of happened did, our overall dining experience was excellent. The food is amazing (garlic bread is second to NONE), atmosphere is very clean, comfortable, yet chic, and lastly the service is prompt and attentive. We'll definitely be going back!
Review Source:I'm a Chicago born and raise and I think/know MJ is the GOAT.
With RW creeping up the bf and I decided to give MJ a visit. It was our last stop for RW and we had some good and some not so good on the way. Upon arrival at MJ we were greeted and got complimentary coat check. Follow our host up a flight of stairs, walked across a walkway and seated around the corner at a half booth half chair table, which was fine, however, the servers kept hitting the bf's chair because it was too close to the table behind him.
We enjoyed the decor and the nice touches of MJ here and there, reminding us we are in the GOAT's restaurant. Even the cocktail napkins had his initials on it. Our server was extremely friendly and tentative, well all of our servers. We had a main server and a few others who helped him with our dishes and drinks.
Restaurant Week Menu:
both: Appetizer: Signature Garlic Bread w/ Blue Cheese Fondue - the blue cheese fondue (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#e0K7oyvyWlSyhZEITBdlXA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - very tasty, but the garlic bread itself was quite oily.
First Course
bf: Carrot and Ginger Soup w/ Crab, Pickled Ginger and Mint (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#uEpqVHQvFjIYcym-MMJccQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - heavy ginger flavor, decent
me: Carpaccio of Beef w/ Mustard Oil, Micro Arugula, Pine Nuts and Pecorino (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#aH-_G2ODkKUZkWJJXbfV_g">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - decent
Second Course (please choose one)
bf: Filet Mignon w/ Wild Mushrooms, White Soy and Brown Butter (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#50ORye50TddQ1ptEP2i4GA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - cooked perfectly, tasty heavily of black pepper, which was overwhelming
me: Eight Hour Braised Short Rib w/ Goose Island Matilda, Carrots and Caramelized Onions (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#Ep0oRA8WgoZTJfVfrubiMQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - lacks flavor, but was cooked perfectly
Third Course (please choose one)
Chocolate Custard w/ Cocoa Nib Crumble, Banana and Peanut Butter Ganache (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#HZP350N0PEDBGCWmJeqWuw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - we receive this on accident and decide to try it, but with the first bite we were glad we didn't order this. Heavy in cocoa and dark chocolate and bitter. Even our server said this was the least ordered/liked dessert, makes us question why do they still offer it?
both: Bourbon Vanilla Bread Pudding w/ Dried Cinnamon Gelato (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#Tb1pKaKoPbLDL6TM6EQt1w">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - this has to be one of the best desserts I ever had! The cinnamon gelato fitted like a glove with this bread pudding, yum yum yum! Seconds please!
We ordered 2 sides since none of our entree came with any:
Macoroni and cheese (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#ZZ62JaI7sn7fVyQsxPCuuQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - this was very creamy, but delicious
Brussel sprouts (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/michael-jordans-steak-house-chicago?select=IyUySQU1pKqRDs6qB-nSWg#6tMq3TlAX3kpGEhFBYM8eg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) - great flavor, a little bit oily
Definitely enjoyed our dessert and service, but the overall food is decent and adding on additional sides because it's not a part of the RW Menu definitely racks up the price.
The reason why I love RW because it let's me try upscale restaurants at a budget to know if it's worth paying the big bucks $$$ and unfortunately MJ didn't make the cut.
Bad experience. Waiter kept referring to me as "boss", even after repeated requests to stop. He was sweating quite a bit, and kept wiping his brow with his hand, not good. Ordered the $95 porterhouse for 2, it was only 75% edible due to large amounts of fat and gristle. Waiter informed me that "this was the nature of porterhouse", insulting my intelligence quite sarcastically. You'd think that while removing the meat from the bone for serving purposes, the chef could have trimmed up the meat a bit, or even before cooking. Apparently no dress code enforced, as I tried to enjoy dinner sitting among diners in ski hats, hooded sweatshirts, untied high-top gym shoes, as well as t-shirts with rude sayings (I am not exaggerating here).
Review Source:Quick summary: Â 2, count them, 2 stars. Â Overpriced and unimpressed. Â This is all hype and trimmings, but not the substance. Â
The story:  First off, I'll be honest here, I am neither a steakhouse fan, nor am I a fan of your typical trying to be uber fancy restaurant where its all about posh presentations at high price, and I freely admit that.  I go to these places occasionally with the wife when she really wants to, and find myself usually hungry after I leave, considerably poorer in wealth, but definitely richer in the fact that  the wife does love these types of places and she enjoys herself.  But even she had negative remarks about our Michael Jordan's experience.  Its restaurant week, so went and did the preset menu.  Some positives before we bottom out here:  Valet parking was easy, $11, and I would say worth it.  The host / hostess people, were exceptionally gracious and inviting.  The table we sat at was a very interestingly designed 2 person booth right by the window facing Michigan Avenue, which as the wife so aptly put it, "made excellent use of the space, and even has a place to put shopping bags or a purse."  The service....was pitiful, specifically our waiter was dreadful.  He was unconcerned, and vanished for long periods of time, taking little to no interest in us and our needs.  Now the supporting wait staff were great, timing food courses perfectly, constantly refilling water so I didn't run out of liquid because god knows our waiter was never going to come by and get either of us more of the drinks we had ordered.  And then there was the food.
The grub: Â Apps- Garlic Bread in blue cheese -fantastic, and best course of the night. Â First Course - Carrot and ginger soup (me), Carpicco of beef (wife) - my soup was disgusting and tasted like cream of squash with waaaaaaaay to much mint, horrid. Â Wife said the carpicco was good, but the supersaturation of arugula killed it. Â Second Course - Â Filet Mignon - Â we both had it, wife liked hers; when they put mine down I apparently had the "where's the beef" look in my face because in my ignorance I didn't grasp that it was a petite fillet, and I didn't really care for it, but I'm also not much of a steakhound. Â We each got sides too, fries for me and a mashed potato sampler for the wife, both of which were good. Â The fries were solid, but the dipping sauces were to bizarre for me and I could have used some ketchup at that point, whereas the mashed potato sampler was exceptional and was presented in a cool 3 tiny pot serving thing. Â Third course - Chocolate custard and a bourbon vanilla bread pudding - Â bread pudding was beyond foul, and the chocolate custard was a small pyramid of chocolate mousse with some Jiff peanut butter on top, which left much to be desired. Â Also we had to basically light some flares to get our waiter over to order more wine during the meal, which was rather annoying.
Conclusion: Â Yeah, so I'm really glad that the wife got to go and it put a smile on her face, but I was thrilled to be leaving. Â Also looking back at it, wondering why we bothered to dress to the 9's when jeans and sweatshirts seemed to be not only accepted but the norm for what is supposed to be a five star establishment. Â The decor was not only lackluster, but with the exception of the number 23 on a wall, I would have had no idea it was associated with Michael Jordan from where I was sitting. Â Disappointing, Â lackluster, and pure hype.
Came here for RW 2013. Started out with the famous garlic bread appetizer. It was oh-so-rich but totally addictive. I couldn't stop reaching out for a second piece, despite feeling my arteries clogging as I worked through the first...
For starters, I got the Caesar salad, which had a tart, light dressing unlike any other Caesar salads I've ever had. Very refreshing. Friend who had the tomato soup loved its bright tartness, intense garlic flavor and rich consistency.
Everyone except me ordered the hangar steak, which was pre-sliced and it looked like the desired doneness for everyone was spot on, although I did hear a mumble about the shallot sauce being so-so. I ordered the burger, which was so big I couldn't get everything in one bite. While the meat was a perfect medium, it was sadly under-salted (and I'm usually complaining about over-salting, so this was a first). The fries, on the other hand, were very salty (maybe to compensate for my underseasoned burger?).
Almost everyone got the butternut pudding for dessert, which had lovely silky texture but was ridiculous sweet. This was made worse by the caramel sauce on top. I would have loved this if the sweetness was toned down. Others ordered the raspberry sorbet, which had a beautiful color and bright raspberry tartness. Next time I'll stick with the sorbet.
I was REALLY looking forward to this place last year for Valentine's Day. When we arrived on time for our reservation we were directed to the bar. Um, okay you could at least be clever about it. Basically it was a ploy to buy time and to have us spend more money. The drinks were good but way too expensive. Once we were about finished with our drinks a man came over with a tray and put our drinks on it and walked up the stairs. Since the dining area is upstairs they make quite a show out of taking you upstairs and through the dining rooms. It's definitely a place to be seen. Our table was nice though so it was worth a little bit of a wait. The garlic bread with blue cheese fondue was THE BEST part of the entire meal. For dinner I had the sea scallops with risotto and my boyfriend had the filet mignon. We had the trio of mashed potatoes for a side. My scallops were tender but the sauce and the risotto were kind of off. My bf enjoyed his filet mignon but we were at a loss with the mashed potato trio. The blue crab mashed potatoes were just plain strange, the smoked onion was okay, and the sweet potato was like dessert. For dining on Valentine's Day we were supposed to get a complimentary glass of champagne but of course we did not. The service here was just okay for us but the decor is beautiful but a little cheesy. The number 23 is everywhere, as if you forgot where you were eating. Also, any drink with foam came with the letter M swirled into it. I thought that was pretty cool, maybe not classy but it got me to take notice.
Review Source:I made a reservation here mostly because my husband is a big basketball/Bulls/MJ fan and we were celebrating his birthday. I really didn't have super high expectations for this place but I was very pleasantly surprised! The decor was elegant and we were given a nice, romantic booth by the window.
The food was so amazing that I still want some of it again the next day! I would recommend the garlic bread with blue cheese sauce. I normally am not a big blue cheese fan as I find it overpowering but this was really well done. Our rib eye was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the mushroom side dish was so creamy and flavorful. For dessert, I had a cheesecake with blood orange, pomegranate and a sorbet which I could not stop eating, as full as I was from the dinner. I probably could have done without the red velvet croutons though because it just made me feel like I was eating dried up cake. Maybe if they were actually pieces of moist cake it would be good.
Our server, Geoff, was awesome! He had so many recommendations of what we should pair together and was just overall very helpful. He even came up to me to confirm about my husband's birthday dessert while he was away in the restroom. I don't think any server has ever done that with me before. Most times, they even forget about birthdays all together.
I would definitely come back. I'd want to take a stab at the delmonico or maybe even the lamb chops. Great place. We had a wonderful dining experience.
I chose Michael Jordan's for my partner's birthday dinner mostly because he is a huge fan of MJ, and I figured you can't go wrong with a nice steakhouse on Michigan Ave. While our overall experience was fine nothing was exceptional, and I would definitely recommend Kinzie Chophouse and David Burke's over MJ's if you are dining for a special occasion.
Our server never introduced herself and checked on us only twice throughout the course of the evening. Things like that especially stand out to me when I am dining at a nice restaurant because it really separates the good from the best. Our table also happened to be between two "service stands" (not sure what they are called), where the servers run up the check etc. At various points throughout the evening I had the pleasure of overhearing them (and maybe other staff- not sure it was always servers) make comments about their tables, talk about other miscellaneous things, etc. Although they did not have lingering conversations I still found it annoying and inappropriate. If the hostess leads you to that table I would recommend that you ask for a different one.
The garlic bread and macaroni & cheese were both tasty- a bit too buttery/greasy but wonderfully indulgent. I would recommend against ordering both, however, as it is just too rich. My partner ordered the filet mignon and we both thought it was great. I ordered the grassfed ribeye and didn't like the sauce on top. However, both steaks were cooked just as requested and the meat itself was tender and juicy. We ended with the 23 layer chocolate cake, which was decadent, gigantic, and delicious.
I still enjoyed my evening, but when spending almost $200 on a meal for two I expect more than just good food. To compare, when I dined at Kinzie and David Burke's the ambience and stellar service really contributed to my enjoying my food and feeling as though I was sort of spoiling myself with a special evening. That's what was missing at MJ's, and that is why I would not return.
This was literally the first restaurant I went to in Chicago! My soon to be boyfriend took me there for our first official date (obviously trying to impress me) and impressed I was! The restaurant setting is extremely nice & so is the ambiance! The service was beyond excellent. To tell you the truth I don't remember exactly the type of steak that I ordered, but I do remember that it was the BEST steak I have ever had. The meat was very tender and full of flavor; it pretty much melted in my mouth. I had a few cocktails with my order and those were really good as well. I certainly would not mind coming back here soon! HINT HINT Boyfriend :).
Review Source:The best rib eye in chicago. i dream of the delmonico.
however, the vegies this time were not perfect and they should be. the Brussels sprouts where a little under cooked and the mushrooms were ruined being served on top of pollenta. the delicate simplicity of the white soy sauce and roasted mushroom dish is divine.
This place is a nice cool refreshing spot to hang out after work.
If you are a woman expect to see guys who still have their jackets and ties on.
If you are a guy expect to see women who are dressed very nicely who want to make an impression and possibly meet other guys who have a tie, a job and are single.
Most of the people who hang out in here between 4-7PM are in the 30 plus age range...
If you are a single professional other people will react well when you ask them their name and other stuff like " so you work around here" and not freak out.
We are here for the same reason, eh?
They have pretty good happy hour specials between 4-6pm
Including the "plouffe" french fried which are fried with gravy, onions and some form of meat. Â Um...while the angel of heart disease will start looking down on you should you have this delicacy more than once a week if you indulge once in a while, that will be OK...My fake doctor said so. Enjoy
My first impression was quite hopeful - in fact, I expected good food since the price was pretty high. For lunch that cost $80+, I believe the food quality was a 2 out of 10.
The jumbo shrimp cocktail consisted of three jumbo shrimp which were stacked on top of each other with assorted celery (?) strips having horseradish vodka cocktail sauce splashed on top of it. This was far the best of what I had at this restaurant and no - it wasn't best as in the best in the world; rather it was best out of what else I had at this place. The shrimp seemed fresh - the sauce and whatever garnish it had complimented it quite well. But three shrimps for the price of $16 just seemed unfair.
It gets more unfair after the appetizer.
I had the weekend dish which was some beef cubes with hash added with caramelized onions - oh and I must not forget the complimentary extra grease topped with sunny-side up eggs that seemed to be desperately tossed there to make up the failure of a dish. It was greasy - extremely greasy. The hash potatoes were prepared to a crisp that it seemed like it was given no attention of love at all. The beef cubes were really diced - small and neglected which reminds me the entire taste of the dish was bland. It was not salty, it wasn't sweet (thank god), but mostly it was just bland. If only I could have asked for salt, pepper, spices instead of receiving the unlimited amount of water that the waiter kept pouring since the high amount of tip was automatically added onto the bill, then I would have been much happier.
Though I finished the dish since money was going into it - if I left the food there then it was like throwing away my money. At least I wanted my money's worth or... you know what I mean.
The hanger steak was prepared medium-rare - which I think they did quite a good job at. However, again - it was bland. Though it had some sort of pinot noir sauce (?) that just did not blend very well with the meat. However, the french fries were alright - until you get to the very end which oddly had a sweet factor in it. That was quite bizarre but perhaps that's their way of giving taste to the food.
Really, $19 for that hanger steak - not worth it. Why does it cost that much? I'm not sure, but they better be slaughtering that organically fed beef in the kitchen to explain why some poor dish was expensive.
Last, there was the 23 layer chocolate cake. "Enough said" is how they advertised it - well, I have some things to say. It was dry. Extremely dry. The nice waiter who brought it out was saying something about the cake but his accent was strong that it sounded like he was speaking in Spanish. No comprendo, Pedro. Anyways, I wanted to try this cake with my boyfriend since I had heard such great things about it (also from Food Network). Well, it's really nothing special.
The cake was dry, it was just rich in chocolate, and had the side of the cake stabbed by some sweetened "garnish" with cream oozing on the side. Yeah, 'nuff said right? Wrong. Did they put the entire cake on top of a stove that it just dried out? If you're gonna do that why not just put a cup of water next to it so it will at least have some moisture, k?
Over all, my experience here was not so good. The waiter seemed friendly but all too desperate to get a tip WHICH is automatically added into the total of your bill. The food is nothing special - why such a big hype? It's just bland "American" food swimming in grease and what they call sauce.
Never will I try this place again. Those who are curious to taste crappy food and are willing to spend an unnecessary amount of money then go ahead. I'm sure you will just love the disappointment.
This place is not cheap - come prepared to spend about $200 for dinner for two people.
That said, the chef does have a lot of creative menu options. Â Our choices were very yummy indeed.
We selected the wedge salad, beet salad, petite filet, ahi tuna, pumpkin & caramel bread pudding. Â All complimented with yummy wine.
Service was a little pretentious, but not offensive. Â The price tag was the most shocking of all. Â We decided it was worth it - our one expensive night out and we enjoyed it all.
Almost was dissuaded from coming here the first time because of the yelp reviews and then realized that people only come on yelp to gripe about something and hardly anyone takes time to write a proper review when their experience was sublime. My first time was that and more. My gf and I were tired of the daily grind and decided to treat ourselves to something nice on a Sunday night. We arrived and our reservation was ready, and coats were checked in about 30 seconds. We walked up the stairs, which by the way for being inside a hotel the ambiance was perfect, perfect lighting and comfortable modern setting. But wait? where was the Michael Jordan stuff? NOT THERE AND THANK YOU! This is a fine dining establishment not a friggin museum to the man, how gaudy would that be? Our waiter Ray was phenomenal, proficient, helpful, and a great conversationalist. Â He helped us to our selection of the 38oz porterhouse for two which was cooked perfectly, expertly seasoned, and had a perfect crust which I judge a good steak by. The garlic bread with blue cheese fondue was also an absolute must. Had a couple of great beers from a really broad selection whilst consuming the best garlic bread creation I have ever had, and then switched to a great malbec for the steak. Could not have done anything better myself. 5 stars, last star thrown in because of the awesome wait staff and service. Do not miss out on trying this place because people complain of having no Michael Jordan memorabilia, and everything else that has nothing to do with the quality of a restaurant
P.S. to yelp. I am a real person with no relationship to this establishment, please do not delete my positive review like you do to many of the regulars of the restaurant I manage at. Thank you.
Hubby and I came here for our one year anniversary. The ambience is superb if you are celebrating a special occasion.
We ordered the colossal crab cake and something else for appetizer. Then we both went for the Rib eye. I must have ate mine a little too slow, as I didn't enjoy it as  much as hubby did. ( he actually said it was the best steak he's ever had)
They have a pretty large selection of wine, but all the drinks were a little pricey ( we had a pre-dinner drink at the bar on the first floor and it was 30 dollar for both of us)
The service is definitely top notch but I did feel a little intimidated when the server explained what goes into each dish extensively.
What I loved most about this place was that it had a bridge which all guests must cross to get to the main dining area. the beautiful chandeliers made it oh-so-special to dine at, it felt like I was inside a palace!
Yummy Yummy
I have to say, I'm a bit of a foodie. Maybe not in the sense that I can make you a great meal or discuss in detail the finer points of dining. But I do make a point to 'get around' ;-) and after all my dining out, I believe I have come to understand what it takes to make for a great dining experience. Michael Jordan's Steak house, offers just that. It has a nice downstairs bar for those on the go and are looking to just pop in after work or with a few friends for cocktails and appetizers but if for me and my girls, we had a celebratory dinner in the up stairs dining room and the over ambience and structure was first class.
The cocktails had a great and original menu that offered strong and delicious appetizers for a first course.
Then I had a roast beet salad that was light but full of rich flavors.
And finally the Seared rare Tuna as an entree. It came with three blends of olive and the salty sweetness of the dressing offered just enough punch to the Tuna to make it unique.
For the sides, my girls and I split the roasted mushrooms and asparagus.
We definitely ate like little piggies! Thank god the boys weren't around to see it ;-)
Although, truth be told, I would have loved to loosened my dress another notch and had some of the macaroni and cheese. I didn't get a chance to taste it but every time one of the servers walked by with a plate of it, it took all my strength not to reach over and steal some. I'm so bad!!!
It's a little pricey but for a special occasion, I can always justify a good food experience. And MJ's Steakhouse offers the total package. Enjoy.
PS-I read one of the other reviews about a guy who had a cold steak... I don't get it because our Lisa, who is the steak queen wouldn't stop raving about the quality of the Waygu Filet Mignon. He kept mentioning how he was the Elite yelper, maybe he was asking for free stuff. Is that how this site works? Maybe I should be meaner ;-)
I am only giving the MJ's Steak House an A-OK because the hostess truely makes your expereince and the hostess here was not welcoming, in fact her attitude made us not want to spend our money...She should learn to smile, greet more warmly, and not make you feel like you are bothering her...
Our waitress, her name escapes me, was great, she was warm and helpful. Her ideas on food picks were very good. The service was fairly speedy. The plus here is the food, it was all very delicious. Next time I would probably just order up to my room rather than deal with the Hostess.
Yes, I'm a Chicagoan and YES, this is for MICHAEL JORDAN's steak house. Â But that doesn't mean it defaults to a 5-star review!
If you're a business rep/salesperson/vendor that needs to take your clients out somewhere in the city for dinner & business...this is a prime spot. Â At least it seemed like it from the amount of suited-up patrons. Â Get your eat & your drink on, talk some biz, watch some sports...it's all good!
I recommend the "Jordan" burger w/ fries, which wasn't on the table menus (maybe on the bar menus). Â It is a pricey setting you back about $20 in the end, but I was really good...nice & juicy! Â You won't be disappointed.
Washington Wizard level steakhouse. Good, but more to be desired.
What do I mean by that? Let me preface by saying that I love steak and for a steakhouse to be considered "great", it has to be at least as good as Mastro's/Ruth's Chris. For chain restaurants, they are pretty good. Let me also say that I love Michael Jordan...he truly is G.O.A.T!
Now when you (or really I) mix "Michael Jordan" and "steak", I am thinking...Michael Jordan of Chicago Bull, "Last Shot", 6 Championship rings fame....and so he'd produce nothing but the best steak.
Like Michael Jordan in his Wizard days, this steakhouse is a good steakhouse but is far from delivering at the highest levels.
Who is this steakhouse for? If you're a Jordan fan, love steak and are visiting Chicago...this is a good selection.
Otherwise, there are better steakhouses to enjoy.
The restaurant itself is a classy establishment on the prestigious Michigan Ave.; however the ambiance is neither memorable or forgettable.
For $50 plus tax and tip, I was able to enjoy garlic bread and the filet mignon steak. The steak was very tender and true to filet mignon, wasn't particularly flavorful. However, it was exactly what I expected and the portion size was about right. *Fade away jumper-nothing but net* Most everyone on this board seems to rave about the garlic bread and while enjoyable, the hype made it seem like it was intended to be a "game winning shot" appetizer. The garlic bread was warm and fluffy-actually light on garlic-and it's impact was like a 1st quarter dunk...."sets the tone, but nothing poster worthy".
Would I come back? Yes. Just not on my next trip to Chicago. There are other steakhouses to try.
Not going to lie had other steak places in mind, but I'm in Chicago and a huge Michael Jordan fan. Â I had to at least try it and say I had been once. Â Well MJ's turned out to be much better than I expected considering mixed reviews I had gotten . Â The food was very good. Â The steak Dolmenico was delicious and just melted in your mouth. Â And the staff and service was top of the line. Â Friendly, courteous, helpful and on the ball. Â No pun intended. I guess maybe there are mixed experiences, but mine much like MJ's game....was amazing.
I do agree the decor doesn't have much of an MJ theme, just feels like a good steak place. Â
Is MJ's the best steak place I've ever been...no. Â So maybe unlike MJ isn't quite the best but it's definitely a worthy high end steakhouse. So although I thought I had to do it once, I'd be more than happy to eat here again,
I'm torn on this review.
Overall, had a very pleasant dinner here. Nice decor. Prompt service. Â Great wine. And a delicious Delmonico steak. Â
But is it worth $47 just for the steak alone? That's the question I'm struggling with. Â For that price, the steak should walk on water or something. Â The sides (the fries) were good with the exception of the summer squash which no one at the dinner table ate. Â
The salads to start were fine. But not memorable. Â
So, if you've got an expense account, go for it. Â You'll definitely rack up the points on your account.
This is definitely worth stopping here while you visit Chicago. It's located in the upstairs of the InterContinental Hotel on Michigan. Come hungry. You have to start with their cheesy garlic bread. I never had anything like this before. Cheesey, with this blue cheese thin creamy sauce drizzled all over. It's so decadant, but worth every calorie. Definitely share with at least 4 people. Great portion. Or if you take it home, ask the waitor not to pour cheese sauce all over the bread.
Crab cakes with arugula salad is a perfect portion, and such wonderful flavors. No fillers in the crab cakes.
I hear their raspberry s'mores is popular and very good. Homemade marshmallows. I was way too full to eat dessert. Michael, you did a great job.
I highly recommend it. Excellent service too.
This is a high quality spot. I had a business dinner here with some associates and it was wonderful. The appetizers were decent however it was the steak that you have to come here for. It was properly cooked, seasoned the way a steak ought to be, and presented very well.
Combined with solid service and a classy atmosphere made for a great, high class dinner.
I'll be back....
This review is for the fabulous mixologist Luis!
Luis (who also tends bar at Carnivale, West Loop) was charming, talented and showed us a great time. Â We were staying at the adjacent Intercontinental Hotel for a long weekend of restaurant hopping and The Taste of Chicago.
At the bar, we enjoyed both classics with a twist and creative cocktails whipped up by Luis! Â
Some even involved a torch!
I loved the single beautiful classic cocktail ice cube...ready to meet the Armagnac Old Fashioned
We enjoyed:
The Sword & The Samurai made with Japanese whiskey, yuzu, jasmine green tea, and honey syrup.
The High Noon Cocktail made with bourbon, Benedictine, honey, lemon, and sarsaparilla soda.
The torched orange slice atop the Sword & Samurai was beautiful!
TWISTED CLASSICS:
The Armagnac Old Fashioned made with armagnac, orange oil, sugar, and peach bitters.
The Pisco Citrus made with Pisco, lime, grapefruit simple syrup, and egg white.
Visiting Luis at Micheal Jordan's Steakhouse on Magnificent Mile is a must when in Chicago! Â You won't be disappointed!
It's on Michigan Ave inside Inter-Continental Hotel.
Very modern steakhouse with good ambient.
We ordered crab cake for apertizer. It was excellent with large lump crab meat.
MJ steak and ribeye medium rare were cooked perfectly. Steaks were well seasoned and juicy. Lobster mash and wilted green compliment the steak very well.
Like any steakhouses, MJ steakhouse is comparable to Ruth's Chris, Capital Grill, Maestro, and Morton steakhouses.
My review is for the bar area in Michael Jordan's Steak House. Â I am totally a long-time fan of Michael Jordan and couldn't wait to visit the new restaurant. Â The bar area is on the dimly lit side. Â It is still bright enough for you to read the menus, but dim enough to provide an intimate atmosphere. Â They decor is high quality, contributing to the intimate and comfortable atmosphere.
The service at the bar was great! Â The bartenders are attentive and personable. Â They even recommended that my friend and I use the hooks underneath the bar to hold our purses (instead of hanging them on the back of the bar stools). Â It is great that they care about their patrons. Â
My friend and I visited after dinner for my friend's birthday. Â We ordered the 23-layer cake which was very rich and delicious! Â It is more than enough to share and the bartenders even put a cute little candle on the plate to help make the experience more special!
We had a great time at the bar at Michael Jordan's Steak House and will return.
The best part about this steak house is probably its name sake, Michael Jordan. Â This place reminds me of Michael's "career" in golf and baseball. Â Appears to be fun and exciting, but disappointing compared to his days in the NBA. Â I had high expectations for a place donned with MJ's name, but those expectations weren't exactly met. Â I expected to see more Jordan paraphernalia on the walls, but was sad when i didn't see much.
A group of friends and I came here for lunch during our trip to Chicago. Â I ordered the charred ribeye steak med-rare and it came with a tomato/watermelon salad topped with cotija cheese. Â My steak came out very well done which made the steak very tough. Â I asked for my steak to be remade so the waitress told me to continue eating "what I could" while they made me another entree. Â The watermelon salad was an interesting accompaniment to the steak, but nothing memorable. Â The rest of my party had already finished eating once my new steak came out and to my surprise they hadn't made me another full plate, but simply just grilled up another steak. Â It was cooked medium rare this time and was good, but I felt as though it was something that I could make in my own kitchen at home on my George Foreman grill. Â
When it came time for dessert our table debated on ordering the 23 layer chocolate cake and decided to go with it since it was the most mentioned item on yelp. Â The cake was good, but not the best I've ever had. Â The kitchen was kind enough to bring me a chocolate raspberry mousse with white chocolate gelato because they felt bad about messing up my order before. Â
I don't know if I'll be back here the next time I'm in Chicago.
Best steak in Chicago. Â It even replaces my previous favorite at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Â I'm now a devotee of Michael Jordan's Steak House.
The decor is very nice - high quality steak house. Â Service is impeccable. Â All the secondary issues are well taken care of. Â But the main event is the steak... On the recommendation of an insider, I had the MJ's Prime Delmonico. Â Fantastic. Â Just enough fat to bring out all the flavor, tender to cut, simply delicious. Â
I now have two favorite steak houses in Chicago: Â Michael Jordan's and Ruth's Chris. Â Although Jordan's is in the lead, I guess I'll have to let the competition continue for at least another round!
To borrow my partner's assessment of this place, our entire dinner experience was abysmal.
We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for drinks and a nosh; Â we chose to sit in the bar. Â The carpaccio was absolutely divine, and the wine selection was quite good. Â Service? Â Perfect. Â If we had never gone back, we would have given the place 4 stars. Â It was so contrary to the negative reviews that we decided to return on Wednesday night for dinner, to celebrate our last night in Chicago with a decadent meal. Â We were expecting the kind of experience we've had at all the great steakhouses we've visited: Â excellent food and wine, attentive service, all worth the price you pay.
We were seated immediately, first drinks came out quickly. Â Service was a bit slow and scattered after that, and it seemed that we were waiting too long for our appetizer, but our server was, I felt, doing his best - he was clearly overwhelmed by a large, very loud party seated near us. Â Finally, our entrees came out.
Yes, before our appetizer.
Obviously, we were not pleased, and we voiced our displeasure. Â A few moments later, a manager stopped by our table, to ask if there was something she could do "to make this right", offering us a free dessert. Â We didn't want dessert, and politely declined. Â Nothing else was offered.
So, we ate. Â I ordered the halibut; Â it was clearly a beautifully fresh, perfectly-cooked piece of fish, ruined by the application of so much salt that it was practically a crust. Â Fortunately, I was able to peel it off and enjoy the rest of the fish. Â
My partner was not so lucky. Â He ordered the MJ's Delmonico - the restaurant's "signature" steak. Â First, it was not trimmed; Â he lopped so much fat off of the steak that it reduced the size of the meat by a third. Â Second, it was tough, and entirely too salty. Â The "citrus balsamic reduction" was so heavily salted that it tasted like soy sauce. Â When I tried the steak, I couldn't even believe he was soldiering on and eating the thing. Â We literally grill better steaks in our own backyard.
Meanwhile, our server had all but disappeared. Â We sat for nearly 15 minutes with empty wine glasses, while employees, for the most part, scurried past us and around the room, shooting occasional nervous sideways glances at our table. Â Since we had so much time to talk about it, we noted that the wine pours at the dinner service were noticeably smaller, for the same price, than at the bar downstairs. Â
A different server stopped and asked how our meal was; Â we told him, and didn't mince words. Â He asked if they could give us a free dessert. Â We politely declined again, and again, nothing else was offered.
Our server finally got us more wine; Â my second glass of Jordan (no relation!) chardonnay was terrible, bitter and acidic. Â We're wine aficionados and often enjoy this particular chardonnay, and could clearly tell that the wine had been mishandled or improperly stored. Â He had also recommended a "full-bodied" pinot noir to my partner, and to say that the thin, light wine was incorrectly described is an understatement.
Our server - surprise! - tried to convince us to accept a free dessert. Â We looked at the menu, to humor him, and when I said that I'm a former pastry chef, he confided that the 23 Layer Chocolate Cake "isn't that good", suggesting instead the carrot cake and a few other things. Â I wasn't hungry enough for a heavy dessert, so I declined again, and we asked for the check... which came accompanied by a massive slice of the 23 Layer Chocolate Cake, packaged to go, and more apologies. Â NOW we laughed! Â I mean, SERIOUSLY?
We left the cake on the table, paid the bill, and got out of there. Â On the way out, we also registered our complaints with the manager, who was duly apologetic, but didn't offer any appropriate recourse for the entire awful experience.
A tip to management, from a couple who's intimately acquainted with the business: Â A $14 dessert (and one that even your own staff admits "isn't that good", at that!) is NOT appropriate compensation for a bad dining experience at a restaurant this expensive, expecting to compete with real, established steakhouses. Â Further, if a customer doesn't want the dessert, something else should be offered. Â Drinks would have been nice.
A tip to diners, from a couple of avid foodies who know a good steak (and a bad one!) when they taste it: Â skip this tourist-trap disaster, and visit a real Chicago steakhouse instead.
