Had the french toast breakfast special. Eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered them. French toast delicious. Food came piping hot. Service was great (Cheryl was our waitress and her supporting cast was friendly and responsive). Definitely will be back again.

The food and service is good. However, I have become skeptical @ whether or not there is actually any real Maine lobster in the the Maine lobster omelet. It states it's Maine lobster and the staff will tell you it is, but when you actually pick through it it's a lot of imitation lobster - definitely NOT all real lobster. So for @ $12.00 I'd expect at least a fair amount of real lobster or at least a disclaimer @ the use of the imitation junk. Other than that the food is good, huge pancakes and waffles, large portions and an excellent cobb salad.

Great breakfast eats with impeccable service. French toast was delicious and eggs and bacon were cooked perfect. Easy parking and barely any wait for Sunday morning brunch.

Pretty good little breakfast dive in SJC. I have never been super impressed with the egg dishes, but the blueberry pancakes are solid.

In general, I have had a pretty good experience with the service here. And even on the weekends when it is crowded, the wait hasn't been too bad. All in all, it's a decent local breakfast joint, but if I'm going to spend calories on decadent breakfast foods, I'm going to go somewhere a bit more special.

Been going to Mollie's for breakfast once a week for more years than I can count! I've always had great food and awesome, friendly service (Gina, Victor, Sheryl). Was in last week and had a new server I've never seen before. I believe her name was Carrie. From the moment she came to the table, she had a bad attitude, no smile and was just simply rude. She should consider changing occupations, where she doesn't have to deal with people. It won't stop me from going back, because I've got years of good experiences at Mollie's but I certainly will not sit in Carrie's section again. Four stars for solid food, and great service over many years. Enjoy the food, avoid Carrie.

Never been to San Juan Capistrano before but was visiting a cousin who just moved there and a true local informed us that Mollies was the place to go. They were so right! Wonderful local spot that you wouldn't even notice in the mall that it's in unless you knew it was there. We had a wonderful breakfast/lunch there. Great service and great prices that can't be beat. They had me at the monte cristo. Don't often see that and it's one of my weaknesses. Both my cousin and I ordered it and it was by far the favorite at the table. Be forewarned though that it is a greasy yummy hot mess. Your arteries will not be happy but your stomach most definitely will enjoy it. :)

Its been a while since we last ate at Mollie's, so we decided to drive to San Juan Capistrano this weekday morning for breakfast at one of our favorite places. There's always a wait on the weekends. It was nice to be seated as soon as we walked in. Victor, who I consider a friend, is quick to greet us with hugs, handshake and hot coffee.

Our waitress is Cheryl, her pleasant and friendly attitude was a pleasure. I was not impressed with our waitress on the last visit, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. Today, I have the french toast, 2-eggs and 2- bacon (7.99), my wife has 2-eggs, home fries and 2 sourdough toast (6.25). Breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, potatoes, sausage, beans, cheese and salsa (7.95) was my daughters choice. The quality, freshness and that down home preparation is undeniable.

San Juan Capistrano is best known for the annual migration of swallows that arrive from Argentina to the SJC Mission. We enjoy strolling the old historic Los Rios District, there's also a petting/feeding zoo with pony rides for the kids. After all that, you could go back to Mollie's for some fried chicken or a hot roast beef sandwich! Oh! they make a excellent Monti Cristo sandwich, my daughter loves it!

BREAKFAST SERVED ALL DAY...now that's my kind of place!

It was my first time so I turned to Yelp to provide a recommendation. Review highlights "eggs benedict", "best breakfast", "lobster". Cool...decision made...Lobster Eggs Benedict!

They brought out my eggs benedict and I was shocked! The English muffin was overflowing with HUGE CHUNKS of LOBSTER which was then topped with a perfectly poached egg. I love runny egg yolk. The entree comes with a side dish and I chose a cup of fresh fruit. Overall the eggs benedict was good, but I didn't care much for the hollandaise sauce. It was a little to thick for my liking.

Hubby ordered the Lobster Omelet with a side of Home Fries (hash browns). Like my lobster eggs benedict, the omelet was filled with tons of lobster. The home fries were decent. Not much flavor but I really liked the crispy edges.

Service was outstanding...friendly, attentive. Hubby's coffee cup was never empty. It was topped off with piping hot coffee before he ever had a chance to ask...superb!

The restaurant itself needs an upgrade as well as a good cleaning, but not bad enough that it would stop me from coming back. Traffic to and from was rather annoying, but we did go around noon on a Saturday when everyone is out and about. I will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items but next time, I plan to go earlier in the morning in an effort to avoid the weekend crowds.

Lots of lobster.....in the Lobster Omlette.
This place fullfills my quantity and quality. Coffee is always refilled without asking. The restaurant is always busy so the cleaniliness gets a medium grade. The food was great. I'm not a fan of Home Fries, but their home fries were cooked perfectly right not too burnt.

Local joint. Traffic to and from the restaurant sucks. Will return for a repeat.

I've been to this restaurant a number of times before. I would have given it *** in the past but my last 3 experiences were so bad.

1st turn around was when I took my 2 granddaughters 7 & 9 years old to breakfast. One had an omelet off the adult menu, one had chocolate chip pancakes off the childrens menu and I had a side of grits and coffee. They each had a small chocolate milk. The bill came to over $30.00. I was in shock.

2nd time down the bad path I went to dinner with a friend and had a cheeseburger with grilled onions. First bite was good, second bite I started to gag on the greese third bite I had to spit out, next move was for a togo bag. I hate throwing out over $10.00 worth of food away, was hoping my husband with the cast iron stomach would eat it, he did.

Assuming the last experience was due to a bad menu choice, today I took the 7 year old to a late breakfast. We shared 1 cheese and ranchero omelet. She had small chocolate milk and I had coffee and a small side of grits. The bill was almost $19.00 before the tip. The waitress asked if I wanted to put half on another plate for my granddaughter. Never told me there would be a $1.00 extra charge for her to do that. I could have done it myself, or put the omelet in the middle of the table. I complained at the register and the gal took off the dollar. Did not aleave my bad feelings about being ripped off.

The clincher, I got violently ill in about 1 hour and had the runs the rest of the day. My granddaughter ate the same as I only she didn't like the ranchero sauce so she pushed it aside. I will never go there again, and I will put my vote in strongly when a group of us go out to eat and Mollies is mentioned.

Probably the best diner breakfast in the area. Ham and eggs is perfect and the lobster benedict is awesome. The best service ever. Seriously, so friendly and accommodating. You can now sub a small pancake for toast. Be prepared for a wait cuz it can be pretty busy sometimes.

What a great little breakfast dive. A definite local spot with friendly service, reasonable prices and great comfort food.

A lot of reviews for the lobster eggs benedict. A great call but very decadent. Minced lobster added to the tradition preparation. Just delicious.

Not worth a long drive to get here but a great spot if your are in the neighborhood.

Stopped in last week for lunch. Was sat at the bar after 5 minutes. Bussboy got me a drink as I was sat at the bar. Still pretty happy with the service as the bussboy had a smile . 5 minutes later I am still sitting waiting for someone to say a word to me. The bussboy and the guys sitting next to me were both aware this was taking forever. The guy next to me said he had the same service. I sat for another 5 minutes annoyed at the fact that another waitress was sitting 5 feet away from me in her uniform munching down on her breakfast. This is so un professional. BTW sweetie. TOO MUCH SALT is not good for you. At this time I was so annoyed I asked to just pay for my beverage. I was in there for a total of 15 minutes total. I feel this is ample time to say hello, or at least greet your guest. I have been coming to mollies for awhile. I am no longer a patron. Hire another server!!

Parking is a real pill. I think several cars are over-flow from the mechanics next door. Their breakfast menu has a great selection and is served all day. The eggs benedict was great. The home fries were drab. They have catsup and two tobascos at each table. A few people had brunch with their dogs ar the outside tables. I saw a woman feed her chihuahua from the coffee creamer. Yech.

Just had to recommend them for their Lobster Eggs Benedict and great service.

Let me preface this by saying that I love going out to breakfast. I would rather go on a brunch date than a dinner date, so we go out to breakfast regularly. This was the second worst breakfast that I have ever paid for (or had in general), and the first time that Yelp reviews have seriously let me down.

My family was in town visiting, and we were headed to Dana Point for the day so we stopped here for some breakfast. When we arrived, my father and I went in to put our name down for a table. When we told the hostess that we had a party of six, she rolled her eyes and huffed at us, informing us that there was another party of 6 in front of us and that it would be a 15-20 minute wait. I expect a 15-20 minute wait anywhere in Southern California for breakfast on Saturday morning, so that didn't bother me. However, I should have followed my instinct and left after the hostess rolled her eyes and huffed at us.

So, we waited patiently. My mother, sister and I popped into the nail shop next door for $10 manicures during what we expected would be our 15-20 minute wait. An hour later, we found out that our table had been readied, then taken over by another party that had just arrived and never put their names down. Instead of asking the other party to vacate our table, we were asked to wait even longer and the hostess continued to treat us like we were a nuisance for wanting to eat at her restaurant.

After well over an hour, we were finally seated. Our waitress was very nice, but the food was not good. Honestly, the food was tacky and lacking in culinary skill. I could have prepared a much better breakfast in my home for my entire family much quicker, much healthier, and much cheaper.

The hostess continued to treat us as though we were the bane of her existence when I went up to pay. We were splitting the bill between my dad's card and my husband's card. The hostess acted like I was trying to pay with stolen debit cards, asking me if both of those people were here (umm...yes. we were all sitting 3 feet from where she was stationed) and to point them out to her. After I stood there waiting for her to run our card, when she informed me that she would take the cards over to the guys. I honestly assumed that she was trying to redeem herself by comping our drinks or giving us some sort of discount for all of our trouble. But nothing of the sort.

I don't understand where all of the 4- and 5-star reviews are coming from. This is Southern California. We have good food down here. Don't waste your time, money, or calories on Mollie's. It will not be worth it.

My experience here was HORRIBLE! To start with we were told it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait. The total wait was well over an hour. We were a party of six. When a table finally was prepared for us some customers swooped in ahead and stole the table. The hostess was aware of it and wouldn't ask them to vacate and wait their turn. Instead we were asked to wait longer! To top it off the Hostess, Cathy, was absolutely the MOST RUDE person I have ever run across in a restaurant. I don't mind gruff personalities, but she takes the cake! She acted like we were the problem from the moment we got there even when we paid for our meal.
The food was meh, nothing good or bad about it. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 was because the waitress and the bus people were very friendly and efficient. The waitress even apologized to us for the rude way the hostess treated us. I really don't like writing negative reviews but I have never been treated so poorly and paid for the privilege.

Stopped in on a Friday morning looking for a local diner experience with great home style food. Trusty Yelp sent me to Mollies.

Perhaps I should have specified that I wanted good service without an attitude! My waitress, Kari, seemed to be off to a bad start of a long Memorial Day weekend. Food and ambiance was delivered, but Kari was a downer.

She approached our table with pad in hand and looked at me without a "Good Morning", "May I help you?" or anything. Strike One.

Food was presented with a hardy slap on the table while sitting food on top of utensils and as if we were in her way. As coffee was hurriedly poured, it was dribbled across our morning paper, with NO recognition or apology. ARGH! Strike Two.

We were first timers and unfamiliar with the menu or presentation and asked for some bacon not covered in the gravy. We were given a "Yeah, should have known" kinda of smirk. Never once getting a "How is everything?" or "Can I get you anything else?" our entire meal. Strike Three.

What was so bad was that the other server seemed friendly and smiling!

So...food great...service from Kari BAD.

I came here with my wife and in-laws on Sunday morning, just before heading down to the Carlsbad street fair. We decided on this place for breakfast, based of course on yelp reviews. I was very impressed with the speedy and friendly service. We were seated immediately, in a booth that was comfy, and not too close to other patrons. We ordered a few coffees, and a famous hot chocolate. The coffee was pretty darn good. We also ordered a waffle, and I had Machaca with what appeared to be home made tortillas. I was impressed with every bite, and everything on my plate was awesome. Next time I am in town ( I live about 2 hours away from San Juan Capistrano), I'll be showing up here. Good food, great service.

Four stars? Really? I was in the area and looked on Yelp for a breakfast & brunch place and saw this place was highly reviewed, so I decided to give it a shot.

The food wasn't special at all. The country breakfast was ok, the gravy was good, the biscuit was good, but the home fries were tasteless. I had some of my friend's lobster eggs benedict and it wasn't too good. It was pretty salty and I believe it wasn't all lobster, there was some imitation crab/lobster mixed in (it's only $12, so what do you expect?).

The service was very friendly and the food came out promptly. The decor was nice, but the place could use a little cleaning and revamping.

This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Three stars.

This is actually one of the best breakfasts you can possibly eat in South County. The potatoes ( add onions!) are amazing. they always have a special of the day, $6.25, and its so much food that usually we take half home. Fast, friendly waitresses, my coffee/water/ soda is never empty, and they have 6 kinds of creamer at the table.

If you eat here weekday mornings, there is always a table or two of old guys bee essing like its an old time barbershop or something. Love that.

Best dishes.. chicken fried steak, the french toast, and the build your own omlettes are incredible, especially because you can add meatballs. I havent had that choice yet, but there is just something about it.

You can eat outside or in, and you never get ignored if you eat on their sidewalk section, thats such a plus.

Enchilada Thursdays!

Good mom & pop place with reasonable prices. My friends wanted to come here because of the enchilada special on Thursday (Mollies has other weekly specials too). I thought they were as good as many similar Mexican places.

Lots of locals here at Mollies. Makes for an easy and warm atmosphere at a place that really doesn't have much of an atmosphere! Nothing fancy about the accommodations here. Just a nice, local hang.

Breakfast is served all day and many of the lunch crowd were having their pancakes and eggs.

It gets crowded at lunch time but soon clears out. Even though it was busy there wasn't much of a wait.

I liked what I had and would gladly come back to try some of Mollies other food.

I am so confused by the reviews of this place.

Since moving to SJC, we've been wanting to try Mollie's...because of the great reviews on Yelp. Sadly, the experience was a major disappointment. I can best describe our experience in the following way:

Greasy. Bland. Microwaved. Canned.

Our cinnamon roll was clearly microwaved, my peaches were dumped out of a can into a bowl (drowning in juice), my husband's breakfast sandwich had grease literally pouring out of it, the homefries were bland, my toast was soggy, my scrambled eggs were flat and flavorless, and even the "fresh orange juice" tasted like it was from concentrate with a cup of sugar added.

I guess when a restaurant claims to be "famous" "old-fashioned" and "homemade" I expect a bit more.

The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the bus boy was extremely friendly and welcoming.

We typically like good, greasy spoon type places. This place was greasy without the good.

I hate writing bad reviews...I feel bad...however, I at least want to share our experience to balance some of the others.

The place was definitely crowded...so if they can keep the people coming...props to them. We just won't be back.

Oh My Gosh...Glad I stumbled upon this place on Yelp while planning a trip to LA. Their breakfast is AMAZING.

Their lobster omelet...yes, LOBSTER is SOOO GOOD. They don't skimp on the lobster either. My boyfriend and I were thinking there were going to be a few shreds in there, but no...there were HUGE chunks...and there were plenty! We ordered the dish with some home fries and I believe it came with toast as well. The home fries were YUM...put some ketchup and tobasco on 'em and they're perfs. Ummm...toast is toast lol.

We also ordered a waffle. It was huge and fluffy. Very good. They have different flavors of syrup you can choose from.

All-in-all this place was great. I can't wait to go again. Great food and service. Great prices as well.

I'm not sure if I got my hopes up or I didn't order the right thing. First and foremost I went there on a sunday morning/lunch and prepare for a wait. I called in earlier asking for reservations the person I spoke to first said "I'll put your name down and just call when you're on your way", I followed the direction and someone else answered and told them I put my name down the person responded in a rude way and said "we don't take reservation. we never take reservations".

I ordered their huevos ranchero it wasn't amazing, the hash brown that came with it was bland. My husband got a cheese burger and that was a bit bland too. Their pancake was larger than their plate, so one is enough for one person.

Service was okay, not the best but it's a diner..can't complain too much!

Happy Eating

The "Zen of Breakfast."
Yeh... It was a lot like that...

You walk in and it feel as if you've been here before but you know you never have...
The face of strangers aren't indifferent but familiar and open...
The staff greets you like a friend from some distant past but no so long ago that they don't remember you...
It's like taking a step back, a time when a coffee shop was the Facebook of its genre and people met not just to enjoy a good cup of coffee or breakfast but more importantly each other...
Where the staff knows your face, your name, your story...
'And small details like whether you like real cream or milk...
Yeh... It was a lot like that.

Gina & Victor waited on me as I took a seat at the far end of the counter. The restaurant is relatively large in comparison to one of my more recent breakfast excursions in the South OC area. 'Spacious, no chair wedged into my back here... We're off to a great start!

Victor was like the "Counter" Kung Fu Master, fast, efficient, filling coffees, refilling coffees, making fresh ground coffee, bussing tables, and just about everything else in between. I tip my hat to him! Bruce Lee had a half-brother, a Mexican by the name of Victor... "Victor Lee." (20+ years experience)

Gina was great as well. She was very helpful in taking the time to answer my questions. Both Gina & Victor seemed to know the clientele... I heard Gina comment to a older, female customer that the grits this morning were rather thin... "Just pop it in the microwave for a few minutes and it should be fine," she replied. Gina answered, "Okay, I wanted to tell you since I know you prefer them a little thick... 'And your toast, dry, right?..." The client added, "Yes but with real butter on the side."
Impressive.
Gina said that some of the regulars are here as much as once a week, every two weeks, or just once a month... She pointed across to a a table near the front of the restaurant, surrounded by older gentlemen, "Retired law enforcement, here once a week, every Wednesday... Sometimes there's a group of five, to as much as 15."
Gina: 13 years experience

I ordered a chorizo & egg breakfast burrito like I did when I was at another breakfast spot... I was tempted to order something else but I figured if I'm trying to do a relatively fair comparison between restaurants, I should probably order the "same" item.

As I waited for my burrito, I took a sip of the coffee. Great cup o'joe!
Rich, robust, with a strong presence.
If you prefer cream, milk, artificial sweeteners, even flavored creamers... They have it.

The restaurant has a horseshoe layout and as I mentioned earlier, lots of room.
Maximum Occupancy - 80
As I drank my coffee, I could not help but be more impressed by the service that both Gina & Victor displayed. There was a regular flow of patrons coming and going.

When my burrito arrived, it was fair in size size, not small, nor monstrous either.
Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
'And nicely filled with chorizo, egg, & potato goodness!
Good, balanced flavor, the ratio of ingredients to each other was just right. Mollie's didn't over stuff the burrito with potato filler which I was happy to see! When that is done, it dilutes the overall flavor caused by the water from the potatoes causing the burrito to be bland and more soggy.
'An unexpected surprise from the chef were the potatoes were cooked a bit crispy. Nice, that helps reduce the moisture and prevent the burrito from being to "wet." Also, it adds a bit of much needed texture.

'Is this salsa or a salad?...
Fresh, tasty, and chuuuuuuuunky! LARGE chunks of tomatoes & peppers.
I'm used to breakfast salsas tasting mass produced from a company back east, bottled, and purchased at a local store. This definitely was not "that" salsa!

Chorizo & Egg Breakfast Burrito($7.95): Very good; nice taste; well balanced
Salsa: Great!
Coffee($2.30): Very good; strong & bold
Total w/tax: $11.04 + $2 tip

Mollie's Famous Cafe is a great place to come for a comfortable, friendly, homestyle, dining experience.
It was almost Zen like... ('Less the clanking of dishes from the back but it was my choice to sit there.) I also have to add, it wasn't too packed which I'm sure help make my first time here a great one!

'Will definitely be making my way back here!
My name is Darrell J. Park & my gut approves this message!
(My butt on the other hand might protest!)

- Big Aloha!

Food: 4
Ambiance: 5
Service: 5+
Value: 5

Good food, good service. The true test of a good breakfast place is how long it takes to place your beverage order and if they regularly refill your coffee. I knew I was going to like Mollies because we received our coffee immediately and never had to ask for a warm-up.

The pancake was larger than the plate it rested on, and it had that yummy brown butter griddle flavor to it. The sausage and eggs were also very good. Really satisfying breakfast in SJC.

Great Service, Good Food, Friendly People.

Came here for breakfast. If your not a big eater, you could share a meal here. portions are big. I had the lobster eggs benedict and it was good. My husband had an omelette and the kids had pancakes and eggs. The food quality is a couple of steps up from a Denny's. The service is really good, considering how busy they are.

When we are in town, we will definitely come back to Mollies.

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant on and off for over 10 years. It is a bit of drive for us, if it was closer we would go more (and be a lot fatter). The parking lot is small, you may have to park around the corner. The place is always crowded for breakfast (a good sign for any restaurant), the staff is very friendly and the service is great.

The food portions are quite large, omelets are made from 3 large eggs, pancakes cover a whole dinner plate, so if you aren't into leftovers you might want to eat somewhere else. The omelets are create your own and they use generous portions of meat, cheese and vegetables. Everything comes to you hot on heated plates.

You really can't beat this place for good food, friendly service and value. My favorite place to eat breakfast.
