The last time we went they overcharged us without letting us know, my friend yelled at them and we were like...just let it go. Not even a month later we went again, and they fucking overcharged again!! The staff told us it's $30/hour when we went in and when we were paying the bill they said it's $35 instead and it must be all four of us, all four pairs of ears heard him wrong! What the fuck is wrong with these people's mind? We didn't put it up this time. If it's two times in a row there must be some problem with either their staff's ethics or the procedure, and how poorly the manager handled the situation was simply impressive. I don't know how they managed to exist for this long. We will definitely stop going here.
Review Source:My friends and I went on a random day just to avoid the rain and since I live right by the area, I figured why not. We got in and it was new to me as well that as much as we pay in the room, we can use that as credit to get food and drink as well. The food was alright and the overall experience was pretty good. However, the furniture, like the couches we sat on, had cracks and splits in the material and you could see the inside. Anyways, it was..."unique."
Decent music selection, most of us sang English songs, there is Chinese and Korean as well. I would say up to date for the most part with the songs and I can definitely appreciate that. Also some great oldies which left me quite satisfied haha
My friends and I enjoyed almost all of Monster..until the very end.
We didn't mind paying a little over 30+ because we stayed in the room for another hour, whatever. We left our money on the table and walked out, as we usually do at most KTV lounges, until all of a sudden as we're walking down the stairs, we get yelled at.
The waiter in our room was counting the money in our faces, and they were yelling at us that we didn't give enough tip. I was first shocked, because we gave more than enough tip, and then second, I became angry because the waiter then gave the money to some lady and she started screaming in my face.
I'm not very fond of people who yell in my face, so I snatched the money out of her hands, recounted it to her, and then gave it back to her showing that we had enough money. She shut up and my friends and I walked out the door.
That's what probably ruined it for me, but I'm sure there are other people who like this place.
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!
They SCAMMED us $70 for the table glass that almost cut me! There is a hidden menu somewhere for every small item in the room just in case "you broke anything". They would check the room as soon as you leave and look for any excuse to charge you. (we were literally kicked out 5 mins before our due time just so that they can check) All items in the room are possibly things of the lowest quality in the world. Naturally, they just break. BE AWARE! Don't be fooled by their advertised cheap price, Â they will get you at the end. Apparently their flimsy table costs $400. They were very "nice" to charge us "only" $70 for the table glass because they saw me sitting on it and noticed a small crack on it afterwards. Sad day for you.
In addition...
Possibly the rudest waiters in all Flushing KTV establishments. Attitude problems, just throw things on the table, handed us the check 20 mins early, and kicked us out 5 mins early.
The equipment is probably slightly better than a $29.99 KTV machine you can find online.
Mics have no cover, unstable volume, and often times just plain silence.
Songs vert limited, both English and Chinese.
The TV has a weird screen that we cannot get rid off... what's worse? Â that screen blocks the lyrics.
No liquor, only beer.
I honestly can't think of anything good to say about this place. Okay, maybe it's slightly cheaper than others, but you also get what you pay for... oh wait, you might have to pay more than expected.
I have been to pretty much all Flushing KTV establishments. This is THE worst one. I would give a zero star if there is such option. AVOID MONSTER KTV!!!
They renovated this place now it looks much better. They service also improved a lot more than before. Also the good thing about this KTV is the food, apperantely they have connection with a downstairs next door restaurant so you can also order decent  food from there and they deduct it from the money that you can use for food and drinks, so that's a plus.
Review Source:It's a good place to karaoke if you don't want to spend a lot. However, you will have a limited selection of songs. There is a mini monitor where you search for songs and it comes along with a remote. Some of the songs have lyrics, most of them don't. A lot of the songs are just the music videos... so sometimes the song stops to let the action in the mv play out, which just kills the passionate singing taking place.
The room I was in smelled like a combination of vomit and cigarette smoke. Made me kinda scared to use the microphones.
You're allowed to order food from their limited menu. The total cost of food you can order is the same value as what you pay them for karaoke. So let's say it costs $50 total for a party to use the room. The party is then allowed to order $50 worth of food without an extra fifty being added to their bill. They're smart though; everything is overpriced and not worth the money. $6.50 for a standard glass of bubble tea.... kung fu tea is down the block. Hey, beggars can't be choosers right?
Well then I don't plan on choosing this place ever again.
Monster draws a lot of people by its brand name, Â (money jar), which is a very popular KTV chain in China. But unfortunately the Flushing flavor of Money Jar is nothing like its distant cousins. As a matter of fact, I doubt they are related.
Rooms are clean and things are generally cheap, like most places in Flushing. However, both English and Chinese song selections are lacking. Like many Chinese KTV, they use a tv touch screen control for song selection and they allow you to order food free of charge up to the price of your bill.
The service, atmosphere, price are all pretty average compared to its competitors all over Main St. It seems to trump others simply because of location. It is usually booked full on weekends so if you do plan to come, make a reservation early.
There is a medium sized parking lot next to the place for convenience.
The concept of paying for a KTV room and then being able to redeem that money for delicious menu items is totally new and exciting to me. Â While the KTV place across the street was completely full on a Wednesday night, this location is a good stand-by and was only half full. Â
The touch screen monitor was featured in English and Chinese, and very easy to use to search by artist or by song in alphabetical order. Â The songs are more updated in Chinese and Korean, than the English song selection--- which is fine for me, since I sing mostly English songs from the 1980's anyways. Â I was really happy to see the updated K-pop titles and sing some of those as well.
The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and the view of Main Street is great! Â We took full advantage of the drink menu and the price is right!
Monster KTV is where my friends and I go to when I am bored of singing in the shower by myself. The place is located in a busy area in Flushing so if you plan on going on a Friday or weekend, you should make reservations. The easy part is calling them the hard part is getting them to understand you over the phone. They give you a 5 Min grace period to show up with your party or they will give the space to someone else.
My favorite part of Monster, is that they allow you to order food up to the amount that you will pay for the room. The room can be pretty cheap if you go off-peak hours, it would only be $15 per hour ! The food is pretty good and it is made from the restaurant under the singing joint.
Drinks are pretty expensive so choose wisely !
The rooms are normally well ventilated and clean so you won't feel like dousing yourself with hand sanitizer afterwards.
They have a great selection of songs and some are pretty updated: Gangnam Style anyone ???
We always have a great time here and when you with your crew and no one knows what they want to do but everyone wants to do something ( you know those moments), you should definitely go to Monster !
Always have a great time everytime I'm here, but that's more due to the company and my absolute love for chinese karaoke..
The establishment itself and the employees are a bit rude bordering on pushy. Very stringent rule about only holding reservations for 5 mins if you're late. They literally push the check at you 30 mins before your time is up and proceed to barge into the room every 5 mins to see if you've paid. AND the funniest part- I've seen them chasing after people to make sure they get the "right" amount tip. They should probably just add a mandatory tip to the bill like K-One (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/k-one-new-york">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) in Chinatown Manhattan, which I believe is set at 18%.
Prices in the early afternoon is $15/hr (which means K-One's happy hour for $18/hr). My favorite part of Monster is the ability to order from the restaurant downstairs (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/chao-zhou-restaurant-flushing">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) in addition to their own snack/drink menu. That makes the money spent for karaoke that much more justified as you can get a legit meal while you sing!! This point along makes this place much better in my eyes than K-One.
Other comparisons I would draw is that overall sound system lacks in comparison to K One. Acoustics just aren't great and the balance in volume between in background music and mic just doesnt' seem right no matter how you adjust them on the screen.
Monster is really becoming a staple of KTV in Flushing. Right smack in the middle of the busiest area, it has delivered consistent ka la OK for years. Nowadays I even consider it to being one of the cheapest in the region with being $30-$35 a hour at night.
Their rooms are more cramp compared to the other karaoke joints but they make it up by providing better service. Like most Chinese karaoke places, you can order food and drinks for free up to the cost of the room.
Songs are fairly updated but it's hard to say since it feels like every Karaoke place uses the same touch screen tablet system and song database now. But what stays constant is it will be majority Chinese songs and even their English selection has improved.
When you can't afford to go to DIYuan karaoke or feeling that you need a less shady place like CEO karaoke, Monster would be my destination.
I came here with a group of friends on a Wednesday afternoon. Â I think we ended up here only because of their happy hour deal; otherwise we would've gone to better karaoke places in Flushing. Â The place smelled like cigarettes and alcohol even though there's a No Smoking sign displayed. Â Monster KTV has a decent selection of English songs with most of the popular artists, but they were missing the classic "Don't Stop Believing" - yes, knock off one star just for that! Â Also the Chinese and Japanese songs were outdated; my friend from Japan described it as "songs that my grandma sings." Â The staff were friendly and responded quickly to our "call button." Â The cool part was that based on your room cost, you get food credit to buy food from their menu. Â Of course their food is overpriced ($15 for chicken wings!) but it is kind of "free." Â Yeah, I mean this place is alright...
Review Source:Okay I love the place because it's next to a parking area and the money you spend per hour can be used on food too! (i.e. $30 of KTV = $30 free food)
#1 they don't really speak English.
#2 the workers are forgetful
#3 the rooms sometimes smell like cigarettes and alcohol.
#4 Most of the songs are in chinese
I come here to sing Chinese songs and some classic/popular English songs.
It's good to memorize how to get to certain songs because they can be forever to find. I like this place because it's cheaper than most of the places I go KTV. They also have an option in the system to use original tracks in case you go out of tune or forget the notes.
ALWAYS GET RESERVATIONS FOR FRI NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS! OR YOU'LL COME HERE FOR NO REASON.
Is it fair to say this place sucks because nearly all the songs are in Chinese when this is a karaoke joint in Downtown Flushing?
Maybe a little bit... but then there are other reasons I do not enjoy this place. The service was abrupt, ten minutes before our time was up a server came in and left our check on the table. We still had $20 in food and drink credit and I was about to order another beer. Also the fancy tablet menu, while cool, was a pain in the ass to use. It took way too long to queue up songs and took us a good while to figure out how to use it even after requesting instructions from our server. So much of our time was wasted using that instrument of torture.
They get one extra star for the decor. Our room was spacious with comfy seating and padded walls. I haven't tried the food but it's ordered from the adjacent restaurant downstairs. We also lucked out as a walk in on Saturday night with no wait time, although when we were leaving there was a very large group waiting.
Don't know about the weekends, but Fridays are usually packed so better safe than sorry, make a reservation before coming here or plan to wait for awhile. Pretty good deal especially if you come with a large group of friends. Not that great in terms of the variety of songs available and because none of us spoke or knew Chinese all that well, it took a while to work the machine. The food that we ordered with the room was blah. Mediocre at best. The drinks were pretty good through! Finally, what bugged me a lot was that even before our time was up (like maybe 5 minutes), the cleaners came in and rushed us out to clean the place. I understand it was a Friday night and that they probably have people lining up for the room but still, it was rude to rush us up especially when we still have time, even if it was just simply 5 minutes. I've experienced better.
Review Source:you're awesome !!! I LOVE YOU... ummm did I just profess my love for a karaoke on Yelp ? I can't help that asianness in me.
M-F 12-7pm 15 dollars per hour, where else can you find such a good deal?? On top of that the lady who works here are so so sweet. They talk to you nicer than your own parents do sometimes.
btw, You can use that 15$ credit to order food too!!!
soy sauce duck and pudding milk tea... yum.
For places like these I always call ahead and ask if there's an empty room, because otherwise it would be a waste waiting when we could just go to another one. It was late Saturday afternoon and despite the half price special, they had a lot of rooms open.
To be honest, I believe Monster to be the only decent karaoke joint in the vicinity of Flushing-Main Street, which is sad. Their song selection is primarily Chinese - even the Korean songs have Chinese names on them! The English songs aren't updated that often either. This review isn't exactly current - I went in the middle of winter break and it wasn't renovating, so hey, things might change. They use a touch screen to select songs, which was a bit tricky for us, but we managed. This wasn't exactly a perk though - what good does a touch screen do when the songs themselves are outdated? The touch screen actually made the whole process more tedious, since every time someone wanted to add songs, they had to move over to the left side of the room and the room was TINY for 6 people. Not enough leg space and definitely no room to stand up and dance or anything.
In terms of pricing, Monster does what every other Chinese karaoke place does, which is free food up until the amount for the room. Just remember to tip on top of the food though. It sounded like a pretty good deal, but my group just came from unlimited shabu shabu so it wasn't THAT appealing so we just ordered drinks. The drinks weren't too bad. Drinks as in slushies and tea. We didn't try the alcoholic drinks. If the cost of the food wasn't covered by the room, though, I wouldn't have ordered the drinks. They're super expensive by themselves.
Everything inside the karaoke room was fine and dandy, but after our two hours were over, the lady was so impatient about us paying the bill. Sorry, but we're college students splitting up the bill so it will take a while. Just because we're out of the room doesn't mean you get to treat us like shit. AND she didn't even have the decency to look at what we tipped behind our back: right when she got the little folder she immediately looked at the tip and our bill. And I don't mean a sneaky glance; I mean a full-on, face-in-book LOOK which was extremely intense. We tipped her a lot though, because we really did have a pleasant experience in that room.
I docked one star for the song selection and another one for the attitude that lady gave me, but overall this place isn't bad. I would actually come back again, after they reopen.
I went there around 6pm and there was no wait. Drinks and food were fine. I feel that they have a moody interior design which makes me comfortable. Rooms are very similar to the one in Japan/Taiwan so it is good to feel nostalgia for your home country especially if you were international students from Asia. Touch panel is a little tricky to use so it is hard to find songs that you want to sing and cannot change the key. Overall I'm satisfied with many various songs they have.
Review Source:I love Monster KTV...its one of the biggest KTV chains in Asia....there is always a wait for their rooms..boo....But they do have one of the best KTV systems...lots of variety of songs...and  they have so many different things you can press to make you sound like a STAR.....lol....best part is the food is actually pretty good.
Review Source:I've definitely experienced better. Place@main located next to 99cent store is MUCH MUCH preferred. (it's 'Place at main' on yelp.) Monster is pretty crappy. I had good times here but I'm writing to judge solely on the establishment itself. I have so many complaints to list.
I've went there numerous times now over the span of 4 years and there's never an improvement on the decor or food or much of anything. (Other then the romanized korean songs. but who really reads and sings phonetically spelled out words that fast, right? oh and there's no more remote, you have to walk over to the touchscreen pad to select songs.)
They have 'no smoking' signs all over the place, yet it is NEVER enforced. I've been there several times to know that. Call me a self-righteous bitch but that's against the law! And there's NO ventilation in the rooms.
The rooms are small even for medium size rooms and the furnishings are crappy as hell. The mics don't even work! On several occasions, we keep thinking we sing low so we try to sing louder. Ugh, the sorethroats! Last time I went, we ask to change the mic 3 times. I swear, they just keep giving us the same mics and never fixing the ones that don't work.
Monsters been in business for YEARS and no ventilation in rooms and people smoke, I can just FEEEEEL the gunk walking in there and sitting on their couches.
Two things I can't complain are the food and service. Nothing is exceptional but everything is done expectedly in those categories.
i used to LIVE at monster. Â every day after class, id run there with my backpack and sing, eat and do homework until it got dark out with a big group of friends. Â it was also here that i made many many people help me write my chinese characters book while i was singing or stuffing myself with their DELICIOUS chicken wings! Â i love their chicken wings! their day waitress and waiters are super nice and the boss is there sometimes too. Â yay taiwanese! Â i love their rooms, its very clean and they have these timed air freshener systems in each that make the room smell less like fried foods and beer and more like flowers. Â they do have some english songs i think but i mostly sing mandarin. Â they also have the menu to chao fan downstairs so you can order a filling meal while you're there if snacks aren't enough. monster is my FAVorite ktv in the u.s. Â sadly though, a couple years ago their security was killed in a stupid fight between some stupid punk kids (yes illegals and yes gangsters) but is pretty hushed up unless you are part of the community. Â they have a new security though (: super nice guy and i heard they do not allow those druggies to come, open a room and get high like they do at other places in flushing.
Review Source:call me crazy but i thougth i got a hell of a deal here the other day... for 1hr k, we got 4 people, ordered 60bucks worth of food (they jacked up the price on foood of course) and we sang for free (or thats what they want us to believe). but i brought the idea n i like it.
only thing that i dont like is the stupid chairs...if ur gonna have japanese style seating, make sure u got a remote to select songs!!!
Their usually pretty good. The rooms are small (they let you go to a bigger one depending on how many people there are) and it's not expensive ($10 and hour before 7 i think). Most of the songs are chinese however they do have many english songs as well. Sometimes (rarely) there are problems with the systems and certain songs don't play. Last time that happened, we got a discount so it's good. They have decent food and also theres a policy that you can't bring food/drinks in so hide your food/drinks people.
Review Source:Monster KTV is one of my favorite Karaoke places in Flushing. Â They have probably the best selection of English songs of any Karaoke places in Flushing.
The only cons are that the price of karaoke per hour depends on the time and day, and there can be a long wait. Â My recommendation is to call ahead of time to make a reservation and ask for pricing (I've been able to get really cheap deals here - but other times, it can be as much as $40-60 per hour).
The greatest thing about Monster is you can take care of food AND entertainment in one place. They are the best karaoke in Flushing for their food menu selection. *drools*
Karaoke system-wise, they've pretty much had the same remote control computer monitor system for a decade. While they're not into touch screen or artist search by name, it's a little hard to work with than some other places. Half the times I'm there, we'd get faulty mics or need to readjust echo and that type of thing.
The decoration inside is very colorful and hip. Note the bathroom is separated by Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe xD Seasonal decors would always be up, so you see they pay attention to stuff like that to make the place visually pleasant.
Now for the food... They have 2 kitchens, you can order from Chao Zhou restaurant downstairs or from Monster. All their teas and slushies are delicious! They also have some over-rice and noodles. The spicy beef noodle is to die for! There's practically no need to separate dinner, singing, and drinking cuz it's all taken care of under one roof. Â
They've recently expanded the English songs selection, and still remain to be one of the harder to book KTVs in Flushing.
Pro Tip: Â The format at Monster KTV is vastly different than many karaoke joints in the city. Â While a Sing Sing or Japas may charge you by the hour + addt'l for snacks and drinks, Monster KTV will charge a hefty sum (around $60-80 an hour) for a room, however this charge essentially covers food, drinks and any other debauchery that may occur in a given evening.
Another tip: Â It helps to have someone in your group that can speak Cantonese... Â Like many of the business in Flushing, prices can (and are expected) to be negotiated. Â
And the final tip: Â Don't eat or drink (too much) before you arrive. Â The booze is cheap, and is essentially included as part of the room, and the food actually isn't that bad. Â What, don't believe me? Â Let me repeat: Â This is a karaoke joint that serves cheap and edible food. Â
Case in point: Â The beef noodle soup is actually pretty good. Â Ultra spicy beef broth comes out steaming hot with enough noodles and beef to satiate all but the biggest appetites. Â
French fries are freshly cooked and a curious plate of Taiwanese sausage with raw garlic is tasty, but sure to make your breath offensive to your friends and lovers for the rest of the evening.
There are some caveats: Â There is usually a wait on weekends, and there is an extremely limited selection of English songs. Â The cryptic song selection system (they don't use books here) will burn up valuable singing time, as you fumble around for Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", only to conclude that the Taiwanese don't appreciate 80's one hit wonders as much as we American's do.
Overall, for folks not familiar with this style of Karaoke, it is a uniquely fun, potentially delicious, and surely bacchanal experience.
what a pain in the ass the find and load songs. seriously. can't they have books like all the other places do?
the only reason why i like this place is you really get your money's worth of singing plus drinking. yup. so for $40, you get to sing for an hour AND get 40 dollars worth of alcohol. or $60 or $80 respectively, depending on the room size and how many people you have. they don't have much on the menu though -- drink wise (only beer and sake). still, i like this place. and the rooms are clean too.
As a Taiwanese snob, Monster KTV is only passable.  It's the "best" that's offered in Flushing, in terms of affordable KTV.  There are always new places popping up but Monster has been around for at least  a decade and for good reason.  They are no frills and offer the latest music, as well as good food and drinks.
They offer traditional Taiwanese foods as well as other Chinese cuisines and many of the dishes come straight out of the Big Bowl restaurant downstairs. Â Your food & drink can be deducted off your room rate (ie: if your room is $40, you can eat up to $40 worth of food without having to pay. Anything more than that will be added to your room rate).
They have an advertised happy hour special of $20/hr for weekdays, although I've never tried it. Â The weekends it can get extremely packed and reservations up to a week or two in advance are highly recommended.
Parking is a headache, as is with anywhere in Flushing. Â They have no lot, but there is a small municipal behind it that gets filled up pretty quickly. Your best bet is to park at the big municipal near Union St and walk over.
The place is great for eating and singing and whatnot. It's 60 bucks on a weekend night for a goodsized room and you can order food from the amount that you're paying for the room.
The music selection, however, sucks.
Unless you're gonna be singing in chinese or korean, you probably don't want to end up there.
And also, they have the most awkward videos for the songs.
A nice place to hang out if you feel like eating/drinking and singing at the same time. A small room during the weekend is $40/hour, but it doesn't necessarily mean all you get out of it is the room for singing. You can order up to $40 worth of food/drinks to get your money's worth. If you order more, then you just pay the difference.
Their food is decent (and a bit overpriced, but hey, you're also paying for the karaoke room) and their music selection is not that great. Their English selection is at the minimum (if not less) and their Chinese selection is not as up to date as other places I've been to. Still, it's nice and clean inside, and singing is pretty much free if you order enough food.
JONASAPPROVED!
