Despite the fact that I've been vacationing in Truro for almost two decades, last night was the first time I tried Montano's. Â Superb! Â Enjoyed the pasta with bolognese: memorable for the both freshness of the pasta and the lightness of the sauce. Â Not the most physically intimate of restaurants, but let the food speak for itself. Â Highly recommended in the Truro area. Â Food right up there with Blackfish and Terra Luna.
Review Source:Sixteen years ago I had dinner at Montano's and found it to be the first awful meal I had had in twenty years of summering and dining in Provincetown and Truro.  So despite having been back on the Outer Cape every summer since then, I have avoided Montano's.  Things change in sixteen years so the other night we gave Montano's a try.  The waitress was as friendly as can be and the "authentic" Italian music being played was a nice touch.  But dinner was again the poorest I've had in the area.  The "Duck Ragu" seemed more like a can of Dinty Moore beef stew added to a bowl of Mueller's egg noodles and left out to dry and congeal for a day or so before heating up to serve.  My dinner companions were equally disappointed with their choices. Maybe I've been spoiled by a life of enjoying  Italian restaurants in NYC, but I am also comparing this restaurant to a couple of dozen others one can choose from when spending time in the Truro/Provincetown area.  Sorry, Montano's I won't be back sixteen years from now.
Review Source:The only restaurant in it's immediate area, surrounded by sand dunes and route 6. Â This place is popular for the locals due to it's reasonable prices for Cape Cod and large menu. Â The food is pretty good, we enjoyed the steak tips, johnny burger, and pasta dishes.
The waitstaff is very friendly and recognizes faces from town. Â The wine list is extensive and offers more than most of the other venues in the area. Â The owner is very involved with the restaurant, introducing himself and making sure all the guests are having a great time - I appreciate an owner that takes pride in his business.
My friends and I will definitely be back!
Ravioli anybody?? Â Not many Italian restaurants here on the Cape offer ravioli. Â However, Montanos just starting serving 2 different ravioli's (of course home made pasta!). Â One is filled with butternut squash and the other is filled with veal.
I must admit I had to try both, one as an appetizer and other as my entrée.  Both dishes were outstanding!  However, my taste buds dig a bigger dance with the veal filled ravioli!  If you like ravioli, you must try either dish either as an appetizer or a main course.  Either way, you will be pleased!
Want a great pizza? One that combines just the right sauce with just the right cheese and a crust you can fold in half so you eat it Italian style? This is the real deal.Try the Margherita pizza, a combination of both tomato sauce and fresh tomatoes with cheese and fresh basil...yum! We were told by our pizza connoisseur friend that this is the best pizza he's had on the Cape. We believe it.
Review Source:Very good, honest food here - nothing pretentious, just fresh ingredients prepared perfectly. Â The pasta is home made fresh each day, Â and the italian dishes and deserts are all fantastic. Â But you should know that they also serve the best lobster on the cape here. Â They only order a few lobsters a day here, so come on the early side, or call ahead if that's what you want.
We called to check if lobster was still available one night, and the answer was yes. Â But by the time we arrived - a few minutes later - they had just sold out. Â We were disappointed but ready to order another great dish. Â Then something unusual happened:
Our server Monika told owner/chef Bob Montano about us, and he appeared at our table. Â He said he had called friend who had just caught 4 lobsters - would we want two 2 pounders? Â Of course we said yes, and he drove off, returning a few minutes later to steam them to perfection for us. Â Incredible service and great food!
Thank you Montanos
After coming to the Cape for years we finally gave this place a try -- and am so glad we did! Â The homemade pasta was a true treat, and the crab crusted salmon delicious. Â It helped to have a kid's menu as well. Â This is a nice low key comfortable family oriented business. Â We will definitely be back.
Review Source:Visited Montano's again recently and had the Crab Crusted Salmon, and side of fresh pasta with the Wild Boar Ragu. Both were outstanding, as was another of my favorites as always at Montano's, the Arancini appetizer. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and the topping loaded with crab and flavored very nicely. The fresh pasta and Wild Boar Ragu were both on the money and will definitely be ordering again. Service was excellent as well.
Newly updated and expanded lounge area made for a very enjoyable couple of cocktails before dinner, and the main dining room has a fresh new look as well. Another great meal and experience.
Very much looking forward to my next visit there soon.
***UPDATE
I wrote a review on here recently talking about how I didn't really have the best experiences the two times I've been to Montanos. We unfortunately didn't have the best waitress in the world and the pizza didn't have a ton of flavor.
Here's the reason why I am updating my review... I have a LOT of respect for any business that is willing to reach out and and try to turn a bad experience into a good experience. After writing my review the owner called me and we had a great talk. I'm looking forward to checking them out once we get through a week of renters. I've also upgraded my review to 4/5.
It's rare that you cannot find something nice to say about a restaurant. In this case? It's pretty easy.
Saturday night. 7:30....parking lot fairly empty. That should have spoken volumes in itself. The hostess greeted us (me and my girlfriend) with a cheery "how was your day"? I thought that was a WONDERFUL way to say hello to a customer, it felt very personal. From there however ?This place took a quick nose dive.
Seated....order the Calamari and two drinks. The Calamari arrived , and was loaded with hot peppers (nice) and sour olives, capers, and artichokes. Overall taste was like dipping Calamari in vinegar....not so nice.
Main course ordered were 2 orders of Chicken Parm. At $19.00 each...that's some pretty pricey chicken....but the big deal here is supposed to be that they make their own pasta,so let's try it.
Salad we are told is an extra 3 bucks. No soup or salad with an entree available here. Pass, salad isn't the make or break thing here.
Chicken arrives...with about 10 Penne noodles in a side dish...with some runny watery sauce. I mentioned to the waitress that I had never seen less pasta offered before...she replied "WELL. It's all about the chicken".
OK then! The chicken? It was that pressed thin cut you can buy and cook in 10 minutes in your oven. In other words...cheap, processed, flat tasteless processed meat. With Cheese. And Sauce.
And both of our orders arrived burnt.
Meanwhile, the waitress never asked how things were, never asked if we wanted another drink, never made eye contact.....if they were busy, it would have been understandable....but c'mon, at least fake some interest!
One order of Calamari. 2 Orders of Chicken parm. 2 drink. 66 bucks plus tip.
I am on the Cape every other week. I will never go to this particular place again. There are many wonderful places there that deserve my money. This isn't one of them.....beep as you drive by it, and thank me !
While I love Montano's to death and it is my favorite place in Truro to eat, I have to say it is difficult for me to finish one of their meals. Their food is simply too rich and there is often too much of it. However, it is also delicious. On my most recent visit, my family ordered three appetizers: oysters on the half (yummy but small), calamari inferno (highly recommend!), and potato skins (not so much skins as near-halves of potatos, but still tasty and the skin had the right kind of crunch). For my entree, I ordered the crab-crusted salmon, which, for my order, came with a side of a baked potato and a Caesar salad. The salmon was very rich, although the crab crust was so good - they should make a dish revolving around just the crab! Montano's not only offers fine dining but also homemade pizza, which you can take-out, so it's good for almost any occasion. It's also impossible to miss - it's got one of the biggest signs of any restaurant I know, seen as you pass it along the highway. The interior can also be a trip, although they've toned down the quirkiness in years past - Trivia Pursuit cards are on every table and an enormous fish tank greets you at the front door. I miss the PacMan table, though, and wish it were back - even if it didn't quite fit with the Italian theme, it was a place where parents could send the kids if they got fidgety at the table. It can be a little pricey, but there's always something new to try, and it's also a local favorite.
Review Source:I like Montano's. They're a great place to hold a function... I've been to a couple of family gatherings and a business meeting/dinner, and everything was delicious. It's not easy to serve a crowd, and they got everything out in a timely manner, the cold food was cold, and the hot food was hot... my prime rib last night was perfect, and the clams casino and coconut shrimp appetizers were to die for. :)
Review Source:My family has been visiting Montano's for years whenever we pop out to the outer cape.
Nice family dining with hearty italian fare. Last time I was there has wonderfully tender gnocchi with a nice pink sauce and some delicious fried calamari. (not sure if the gnocchi was a special though - I don't think its always on the menu)
Portions can be on the large size - but that is nice as the place we stay has kitchenette in our room and at least their pastas reheat well. Prices are very reasonable. This is also a very good place to go if members in your party aren't fans of seafood as while there are many seafood items on the menu - there are many other things as well.
Hmmm. What can I say here that would be helpful to people trying to make a choice? Look, I really wanted to like this place, and I can see that there are those who do like this kind of food (think La Famiglia Giorgio)  but in order to help out the rest of the crowd, I gotta say it was pretty bad. My wife couldn't eat her carbonera because she said the cream sauce was so heavy and thick it tasted like paste (although I ate some and I didn't think it was all that revolting) , and my eggplant parm was a huge plate of pasta with a really thin layer of virtually tasteless, mushy eggplant  completely disguised under a dense cover of again tasteless red sauce and cheese. For a place that says its authentic Italian this made Vinny T's look like Il Capriccio. Ambiance really is OK because what would seem hokey otherwise comes off as  charming on the Cape.Probably Ok for families though and maybe the seafood is better.
Review Source:Montano's Restaurant has superb family dining. The food is always first rate. Bob Montano uses his Sicilian heritage to spice up his pasta and seafood  dishes. This is the go to restaurant for a guarenteed good meal. The decor is decidedly Cape Cod. A beautiful dining room and fabulous fish aquarium.
