I wish I could give three and half stars, since I can't I'll give Moon Gate the benefit of the doubt. Â This is our go to place for chinese delivery and it always prompt. Â For the most part, the food is great but there have been a couple of misses. Â I think the kitchen must have been having an off night. Â Dishes worth trying are the sesame chicken, broccoli and chicken, and pad thai.
Review Source:The food is really good but the service is completely awful! Except the young girl she is very nice! We have the same server every time and she's the one who drags her shoes and you can hear her coming thats how loud she does it. She once spilled our water and laughed and then cleaned it up but never apologized or anything. So rude every time! We live walking distance so that's why we like to go but after 3 times of the poor service I'm going to stick to ordering and taking home.
The Mongolian beef is great, and so is the Vietnamese bowl.
Their delivery drivers should invest in a GPS.
This post is based off a delivery, I have never eaten at the restaurant itself so I cannot comment about service as a eat in guest. I work a few blocks up from here and have ordered from them two times now ($13.00 min. on deliveries). Both times I have experienced the same thing where I am told about 40 minutes to get my food, which is reasonable I suppose during lunch hour, it has taken close to an hour each time as the driver gets completely lost and calls me 3 separate times for the address again and detailed instructions each time, although I already gave it to the person I placed the order with. Because of this the food is cold by the time it is delivered to me.
On to the food itself :
The Szechuan Eggplant is nothing to write home about, it is stated to be spicy with a little pepper next to it on the menu but has no spice in the sauce at all. The second time I ordered I got the Basil Shrimp which comes in the same sauce as the Szechuan Eggplant with vegetables that aren't fully cooked, I normally don't mind a crunchy vegetable, it doesn't work in this dish though. The egg rolls, they fry them too long so they are really greasy and become pretty soggy if you don't eat it quick enough.
They like most asian grills will give you large servings of food for the under $10.00 menu, there just is NOT any quality that comes with it to get me to go back for a third strike so I am walking away.
My wife and I just moved to Denver from NYC and have been a little spoiled with good Asian food. Our first stab at Asian food here in Denver was Jett. Wow, that was awful! On a whim, we decided to give Moon Gate a try and we really liked it! I can't speak for the service as we got delivery, but the food was very fresh, hot, and tasty. We will definitely go back!
Review Source:After eating here a while happily and now having nothing but MEH experiences every time, I'm no longer a fan. The last thing I ordered here was a Viet Namese combo rice noodle bowl to go. Shrimp and chicken. 9 friggen dollars for a lunch which left me hungry! 4 small shrimp, some kind of weird flattened lukewarm chicken about 3/16 of an inch thick with minimal flavor. The fish sauce was way too sweet with too much honey. They used to be good but I think they just don't give a shit any more.
No more Moongate for me.
Moon Gate is one confusing place. Â The food's pretty good but the service is so hot and cold. The first time here was with 3 co-workers. Â The gentleman that brought water for the table was smiling and friendly. Â The guy that took our order barely stopped at the table and kind of glared at us the whole time. He didn't ask if we wanted anything else to drink and started walking away. Â My co-worker asked for coffee and then he started walking away again immediately. Â Another co-worker called him back to order her diet coke and then he started walking away again. Â You can see where this is going. Â I just stuck with my glass of water. The food arrived fairly quickly and like I said, it was pretty good.
Another time I went, a different person (friendly) waited on us and all was good.
Once when we had food delivered for a meeting someone did not get the correct dish. Â When the place was contacted they denied it at first but then called back to apologize (a woman this time) and said they would give us a free dish the next time which they did.
This week my co-worker ordered lunch for our meeting. Â She hung up the phone and turned to me and said, "I just spoke to a very angry man". Â I started laughing and told her, "I think I know who you're referring to." She relayed that when she placed the 6 person order the guy started yelling about how he was the only one there that day. Â What? Â In the end we got our food but decided perhaps it wasn't the best place to order from. Â No soup for you!
I decided to try this place on my way home from work one afternoon (I work funny hours sometimes). Â It looked promising, I was greeted upon entering, and I asked to place a take out order. Â Feeling indecisive, as I often do in places I haven't found a favorite dish in, I asked for a recommendation. Â The lady assisting me suggested a ginger shrimp dish and I agreed. Â Sounded good, everything passing by me while waiting smelled wonderful, so I was quite looking forward to exposing my taste buds to a new dish. Â Perhaps I was building it up in my head a bit much, but I was disappointed when I got home. Â
The dish was... fine. Â
Not terrible, not great, and bordering on "good" but when I didn't finish the rest for lunch the next day (I'm a girl who enjoys left-overs for quick, easy, tasty lunches) I knew I wouldn't be going back. Â If I lived closer, I probably would order delivery from them from time to time, but I've had better...
I live Pretty close to Moon Gate so I've been going there since it opened.  The food was much better in the beginning but has declined in quality in the last couple of years.  It is better than Pei  wei but not by much.  Sometimes the food is cold or too salty but overall it's not bad!  If you want quick Asian that's not too expensive, it's not a bad place to go.  It's kid friendly but the place is very small and gets crowded on weekends. Â
They also have delivery service if you live close by!
I've been here many times and mostly had good experiences. Â It's a typical Asian fusion restaurant but it's been around for quite a while, long before many of the newer places popping up around town that have similar menus. Â You can get all the usual dishes here plus a couple of more interesting ones as well. Â It's very reasonably priced both at lunch and dinner, and it's usually pretty quick too if that is a concern. Â I'm addicted to the Thai fried rice - so good! Â The noodle dishes are usually pretty good as well, and the teriyaki dishes are a nice healthy alternative. Â One time my order had a major salt overload, but I've been there recently and it was back to normal, so I hope that was just an off day in the kitchen. Â Desserts look better on the picture than they actually taste, but you'll be filled up after your meal anyway. Â This is still a good place for an inexpensive, fresh Asian meal. Â I'd give it three and a half stars if I could.
Review Source:Blech. The Yelp reality/limitation is that you can't give no stars. Â Even if you could, I would give Moongate one star and it would breakdown like this: half star for being a non-chain and and other 0.5 for being close to my crib.
But onto the food. It is NOT good. Actually, it is bad. I've prob had takeout from here 20 times in 5 years and it is usually just "meh". Tonight, I had the thai curry noodles and they were awful. Totally mushy lo mein type noodles. Â Which is not what they told me when I asked. They said the dish had rice noodles, which I prefer. It was billed as spicy on the menu. Uh- nope on that one too. And even the veggies were gross. The shrooms were waterlogged and the asparagus pieces were so reed-like and tough, that they were inedible. Except perhaps if you are a koala. Surprisingly, I didn't see any koala's there, so that was kind of disappointing too. The final straw was the terrible crab cheese wontons which were "two seconds in the fryer away from burnt" . Â
So that was my last visit to Moongate.
Pretty good stuff! If you're thinking about trying that dump Pei Wei, just head across the street and up a few blocks to Moongate.
My favorites are the basil chicken or shrimp and the chicken satae appetizer. I've ever really had anything here I disliked, tho the service can be spotty at times.
I took a break between classes for lunch. Â I checked this place out on yelp first and headed over.
I enjoyed what I had; Vietnamese egg rolls and basil shrimp.
The egg rolls were your standard Vietnamese version. Â The basil shrimp was delicious but the main vegetable in the dish was bok choy. Â I recently decided I don't really like bok choy. Â
This is definitely a great spot for lunch that isn't too busy with pretty good food.
Small and quaint, we were the only ones dining when we arrived. Since they don't have any music playing, we felt a little paranoid about how loud we were talking. The menu is an interesting hodgepodge of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and who knows what all. I was pleased by the number of vegetarian options. (I'm not a vegetarian, but I used to be so I like  the option). The Sesame Tofu and the Tofu with Peanut Sauce were crispy on the outside and a little gooey on the inside. If this was Iron Chef, they'd get all five points for presentation though as I loved the plate that it came on and how my broccoli was beautifully arranged around the tofu. The service was fairly inattentive given how few people were in there. Luckily, we weren't in much of a hurry. They'd have more stars if the service was better or they had brown rice as an option. It's close to 4 stars, but not quite there. The portions are quite large and there is plenty for lunch the next day after eating here. I won't be running back, but I might dream of peanut sauce covered tofu! Yum!
Review Source:Well had a date, ok not really a date but a friend of mine hooked me up to go to dinner with a friend of hers who she thought I might like, ok so it was a date. Well this was the spot I choose because of the location was close to her house and at nights it can be quite quaint.
I have been coming here for years and have been a fan for as long as I have been coming. I have never been wowed by the service, because at times they can actually treat you like you are bothering them or maybe it's the fact that I have come in is either as interacial couple or family who knows but theres definitley a funky vibe with some of the waitstaff! And I have never been on soap box about how good the food is! Because at best its above average or marginal which for the dime a dozen Chinese restaurants makes it middle of the pack. They do however serve there dishes on trendy plates and use pyramids to form the rice which ad's a presentation flair good for dates.
One thing I do gripe about Moongate is what heck is Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese all on the same menu. Do one thing and do it good! When I first started coming here they only did Chinese then they remodeled made it nicer etc. and added the other menu items. There is distinctive differences in all three food styles, its like going to a pizza place and getting Mexican food!
So the meal met expectations, I am a sucker for Gyoza aka Potstickers and here they are consistently good so I ordered those and I like their Sesame Chicken so I rolled with that, My date got a curry dish I forget the name but she fed me a bite and it was cool, both being fed and the food!
Overall the evening was good, I don't know if this is an ideal first date spot but its definitely a spot you can go once established and taken the next baby step!
Moongate used to me my go-to place when I was craving Chinese food. Â Lately, the quality has been lacking. Â The sweet and sour dishes are too sticky saccharine sweet and the savory dishes have just been bland. Â Â The potstickers are consistently good. Â My favorite is the Thai BBQ chicken - almost 4 meals in itself with a side of curry but the curry has been oily on several occasions. Â The hunt for a new go-to place continues.
Review Source:What is with "Asian" restaurants that insist on making the cuisines of many countries. Â Moon Gate busts out a menu featuring hits from Japan, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Â However, their lack of focus certainly prevents them from making a significant impact with any of the cuisines. Â In addition, the large menu is rather overwhelming and a family style meal that crosses genres isn't my cup of tea. Â Yet I still come to this place when family obligations demand it. Â Sigh.
Review Source:Notable "Best Asian Fusion" - This place is in my hood, and I love it. I try something new each time I go and it's always DE-Lish!
Last night I ordered Miso soup which was OK, but the crispy spring rolls were tasty and made me look forward to the main courses. Try the Basil Fried Rice with Shrimp. You can get this rice with chicken, beef or tofu, but the shrimp is a terrific combination. The rice is like traditional Chinese fried rice, but with jalapeos mixed in. It is fantastic. The basil flavor is subtle yet undeniable. The rice is just the best rice ever.
The Green Curry with Tofu is also another favorite. I am addicted to Green Curry and I'm telling you, this is one of the best offerings I have had. The flavor is "fireworks in your mouth" heaven.
The service is fast but not necessarily friendly. But they deliver and the eat-in is not without enough ambiance. It's a cute neighborhood place with high points for the food.
I have given this restaurant so many chances with almost no good experiences. Â The curry is often bland and empty of any veggies or other things that you find in a good curry. Â Once I ordered the peanut sauce dish and there were more onions than chicken, peanut sauce and rice...it was disgusting. Â The soups are inconsistent. Â Once I had it and loved it, the next time is was terrible. Â They claim to not use MSG, but the last time, and I do mean last time I ate there I had all the symptoms of MSG overload, headache, stomach ache, etc.
Review Source:I used to work out this way somtimes at one of our off-site facilities before the big Lowry building boom, and Moon Gate was one of the few places I could count on getting a good lunch. Â I have a thing for noodles and tofu, so that was mostly what I had, but all of my co-workers seemed to like the food as well. Â Check out the funky bathroom decor...
