I want to give this place 4 stars so bad, but let me explain... I've heard about this place online and I've read about the history, I needed to go here! We walked in and it was quiet and not too busy, granted it was a Monday night. The hostess was super unfriendly and seemed really confused that we wanted to sit near the bar instead of where she was going to seat us. It was 8:45 on a Monday, I didn't think it was an issue to ask for a hightop. Anyways, she's drops us off at the table. This is where it got worse. We sat there for about 10-15 minutes without anyone saying anything to us. The hostess walked by about 3 times, waitresses walked by without making eye contact. It was beyond annoying, we were about to get up and go next door until a server came over and apologized profusely. She was super nice and after that it was smooth sailing. I got the wit beer and my boyfriend got the swamp fax. Both were good. The food was better than I expected and we got a free dessert for the horrible start to the visit. I would have liked it better if our server came sooner and the other staff didn't completely ignore our existence. I might come back, not sure if I want to risk it happening again.
Review Source:Not impressed.
In town for the July 4th holiday and stopped in here for a beer.
Draft selections are all their home brews which normally isn't a problem. Â But I was disappointed in the quality and variety of their offerings.
Food was awful! Â Based on the one starter we tried - garlic fries - I definitely would not eat anything else here. Â Fries were obviously frozen (got a couple of ice cold ones on the plate) and toppings were meager - a drizzle of balsamic, RAW garlic, a bit of bacon. Â
Great location on Bay Street across from the Hyatt but sadly, that was the best thing I found about it.
Poor service. Slow. Bad food. The beer they brew is all extremely bitter. We ordered the beer flight which is a tasting of all the beers Moon River brews and all reminded me of eating a grapefruit - they leave a very bitter aftertaste in your mouth... But honestly the worst thing about  this place is the service. The food is the second runner up. The order was taken and after quite a long wait we were told that they were out of bbq and the pulled pork sandwich my husband ordered could not happen. It was only 2pm on a Tuesday... It also took about 15 minutes to get the first round of drinks...
Review Source:After a long, hot and humid day tromping around Savannah, we decided to stop in for a beer before heading back to Hilton Head. The hostess was flat out rude and told us that we would need to wait until the outdoor beer garden opened at five to have a beer. The bar was crowded, but there were five visible unoccupied tables inside. We asked to be seated indoors, because honestly, we were exhausted and hot and wanted to drink a cold beer in a cool air conditioned restaurant. She finally gave in and we were sat at the booth nearest to the door. Our waiter, Zach, was amazing. He was instantly friendly and seemed to have no problem at all with us sitting down for a happy hour beer. I had a citrus wit which tasted like a Blue Moon and a Hoegaarden mixed. It was very delicious. Won't be in Savannah anytime soon, but wouldn't come back anyways.
Review Source:I can't really say whether the food was good because the service was pathetic. Â We had to search for a menu (asked 3 people before getting one), search for someone to serve us drinks, and then got tired of searching and went elsewhere for our meal. Â I choose not to work this hard when I want to spend my money, so I will not be back.
Review Source:This was a really awesome place in down town Savannah. Right off Bay Street and close to some other pubs. Would be easy to do some bar hopping and try out some local brew. Beers were great and the lunch specials were just as good. Watch that first step when coming in though it's tall.
Review Source:This past weekend  we had a large party (20) go to the Beer Garden for a birthday celebration.  We had called several times the weeks prior and were told on numerous occasions that the Beer Garden doesn't take reservations, but assured us that we could be accommodated.  We showed up 45 minutes prior to our planed dinner time and were told there was no way we could be accommodated and the hostess was not willing to work with us.  The hostess even somewhat threw the menu in our face and stated there was a limited menu and asked if we were okay with that.  It seemed like she was doing everything in her power to get us to leave.  After chatting it out, we finally were seated at two different tables.  As more people showed up for the celebration, a table beside us become available and we were told that the people who were going to be there cancelled their reservations....Reservations we asked?  Apparently they do take "some" reservations the day of, however we were never told that.
Once we got the sitting situation figured out, we had a great time. Â Food was good and waiter gave great service, however they really need to get the large parties in order and determine if they actually take reservations or not.
Their food was delicious and the menu offered some different choices. Â This was good to try some local brew and it's a nice location. Â They have a great outdoor seating area but we chose the air conditioned inside. Good service and cheaper than some places down by the river. I would definitely recommend it.
Review Source:This place was just...okay.  We went for lunch one day and it was a little busy, but not very.  The beer selection was good - I will give them that.  We had the Wacky Wild Wit  - stupid name, but a good beer.  It was nice and cold, which was just what we needed on a hot Savannah day.
My friend ordered a salad - it came with some not so nice looking chunks of lettuce. Â We ordered the leek and goat cheese cakes. Â Only two cakes came out on the plate, which was expected, but they were a little small. Â Tasty though!
My boyfriend ordered the special, which was some sort of brisket sandwich that was supposed to come on slider rolls. Â It was brisket on half filled hoagie rolls. Â Honestly, it looked pretty pathetic. Â But it was only $5, so I'm not sure what we expected, really. Â The taste was good, the presentation was eh. Â I had the Big Bird wrap. Â Again, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Â I've had a lot better for sure. Â I did have the sweet potato fries and they came with this amazing sweet dipping sauce that was incredible. Â If you like sweet potato fries, these ones are top notch.
The waitress did go out of her way to say that the beef was grassfed and therefore the burger would take a little bit longer to cook. Â That was nice to her to give us that heads up, but many places serve grassfed beef and I've never been told that before.
Had to escape from the heat and get off my feet so I came in here. Â Got the two beers: the Slo-vannah and American pale ale. Â The Slo-vannah was good: citrus, hoppy notes. The American pale ale was not as good and not memorable. Â Recommend the Slo-vannah after a long walk along river street.
Review Source:Lovely ambiance, with outdoor seating and a bunch of people generally enjoying their night. Â And I'm pretty sure I liked the beer they recommended, though I don't remember which one it was. Â And the garlic fries were well done and delicious.
The Shrimp of Course was nothing to write home about, other than that it was quite a large plate, especially after all the fries. Â And the veggie burgers are the frozen kind. Â My friend ordered the veggie wrap, and he wasn't particularly impressed either. Â Not salty enough? Â Anyway, for the price they charged I wouldn't go back for more than a drink and happy hour.
I've eaten in the restaurant as well as ordered delivery from Moon River via 912 food to go.
I was very please with the food we got delivered and knew I had to try it in person. Â
My husband and I went right when it opened on day mid week and it wasn't crowded at all, I think we were the only customers there the first 30 minutes. Â
My husband had the burger which is made with Hunter Cattle grassfed beef.  He was very impressed with the burger.  I ordered the wings and they are sooo yummy.  I had the hot when I ate in the restaurant and the Moon River style when I ordered delivery.  I prefer the hot, but the Moon River style were good too.  The amount  (1lb) that comes with the order is a lot, especially for the price.  I couldn't eat them all. Â
We didn't try the beer but it was cool watching the guys tend to the stills while we ate.
This place offers more "Guest" beers than they do their own. Which, to me, says something. Their IPA is more of a regular pale ale and their Apparition Ale was quite flavorless. The Captain's Porter wasn't bad. My wife and I each got shot of Jameson to make up for the beer and it honestly didn't even taste like Jameson. It was either watered down or just a cheap brand. The service could have been much better. Three stars because they have Stone and New Belgium drafts.
Review Source:How does a Brewery end up having more outside beers than their own brew? I had the Captian's Porter, which wasn't bad, but lacked punch. Hubby tried two of their other brews & was sadly disappointed. We ordered a shot of Jameson to toast the recent passing of a loved one, as well as to make up for the craptastic beer we'd been served, but low & behold what we were served WAS NOT Jameson, it was either cut with something or replaced with generic. Quite terrible. The service could've been way better, the bar wasn't busy at all, yet we had to call out to our server every time we needed something, then the guy goes on lunch without saying anything, while hubs & I sit there waiting on our check. I asked another server if we could get our check & was given attitude. Bad service pretty much puts you on my poop list, not to mention crappy beer.
Review Source:This place didn't live up to they hype I've been given. Â The food was just okay and the microbrews were average at best. Â It's got a great location, service was great, and they have one of the coolest open air biergardens I've seen. Â The one saving grace of this place is the cinnamon-vanilla sauce they give you to dip the sweet potato fries in. Â That shit is miraculous.
Review Source:It is a cool place to go for a brew haha but if your looking to find good food you need to get up off that bar stool and head somewhere else. First dish I tried was the crab cake appetizer, it had too much of a red pepper spice and an overload of cumin. Â There were a few bits of crab shell to add a slight bit of an unwanted crunch factor. Â The next item on the list to try was the crab melt sandwich. I didn't want the cheese sauce so mine came without. The crab tasted better then the crab cake however it was ice cold in the center instead of hot, so I sent that back. I ordered sweet potato fries and they were good but the cream cheese cinnamon sauce that came with then would be better on carrot cake. Â So need less to say it was a liquid dinner of hard apple cider which was pretty tasty.
Review Source:This place not only gets five stars for the awesome food and beer, but for the fact that I'm pretty sure IT'S HAUNTED! (Haha). It's a great place to check out if you're just passing through or if you live there, either way, you're missin' out if you don't check out this gem of a place :) I had their darkest beer (can't remember what it's called), it was delicious though.. Not too bitter.
Review Source:I'm from Savannah, and have given this place a few tries. Â My last time here (and it will be my last), I had to have dinner here as a part of a family event.
It was the same old, same old. Â Poor, slow, Â unenthusiastic service, and mediocre (at best) food. Â I had the Haricot Vert salad with salmon. Â The salmon was overcooked and the entire salad was bland. Â My wife had fish, and it was overcooked as well. Â My 16 year old son, who eats like a horse, left food on his plate because he said it wasn't that good. Â The only good thing we had were the garlic fries we ordered as an appetizer.
The bar is hit and miss. Â Memorial Day weekend and I asked for Crown Royal before dinner. Â Out. Â No more to be had. Â Bartenders are as unenthusiastic as the waiters.
I think the only thing that keeps this place going is location and tourists. Â There are plenty of great restaurants in Savannah, but this isn't one of them.
In fact, if you're looking for this type of place (micro brews and food), Â the Distillery is a much better choice. Â I won't be back here.
Since I absolutely love craft beer, I felt it quite necessary to check this place out (again) for both food and the beer.
I ordered the andouille-stuffed chicken which was stuffed with the sausage plus spinach and swiss cheese. I'm always a little hesitant to order chicken because I find that it's often too dry, but they nailed it! It left me wanting more, which is not something that often happens. It came with two sides, so I opted for the smoked gouda scalloped potatoes and the veggies. Do not miss out on the potatoes! Trust me on this, especially if you like gouda!
The beers available at the time were:
- Apparition Ale (English Pale Ale)
- Belly-washer (English-style Golden Pale Ale)
- The Bomb (Dry Irish Stout)
- Wild Wacky Wit (Old-style Belgian Wheat Ale)
- Swamp Fox (IPA)
I got the sampler and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed with the selection. I'm more of a stout/porter chick, so "The Bomb" was the one I was most excited about. However, it was too bitter for my liking and lacked a lot of body. However, if you're into espresso, you'd probably really enjoy it. The "Belly-Washer" was the one that I liked the least - it was just weird, too many different flavors going on.
The staff were really nice and I'd definitely be back to try their other seasonal beer offerings.
TIP: Check into this place! You get $3 off an entree or $1 off of a sandwich. SCORE!
We stopped in here to give it a try after a day sightseeing in the historic district. Â We were looking forward to some really fine micro brewed drafts but were disappointed. Â They did offer us tastes of the brews to assist us in choice. Â But while they offered the tastes they weren't particularly friendly about it. Â Unfortunately we never really found any of their brews that suited our palates. Â What we ended up really enjoying was a draft from another company - a Kentucky bourbon barrel ale.
We did enjoy the large outdoor seating area!
I'm giving this place four stars instead of three because the outside "beer garden" area is just so fantastic. Their beer, burgers, fries, etc. were what I expected of a brewery. Their food was nothing to get super excited about. However, the outside area is big, downtown, and worth visiting if you're in the area.
Review Source:The bar was ok. The sit down tables are so close to the bar which made the feeling of it being crowded even though it wasn't that full. I didn't eat but I saw a good portion of the food that was being served (and looked at the menu) and it seemed like TGIFridays or Bennigans food. Nothing over the top. They did, however, just opened a beer garden outside that oversees bay street so that was kind of cool.
Review Source:I wanted a dark beer, but they were out of porter and stout - really? You're a brew pub that makes your own beer! That shouldn't happen. Ever! I ended up with the Belgian wheat beer, it was a lot like Blue Moon. Good but nothing special.
We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer. Colorful chips, but not nearly enough for 4 people and the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar - not fresh. Our server brought us chips x2, as it took a while to get our food from the kitchen.
This was our second visit to Moon River this week - mostly because my son said the St Louis ribs were the best he has ever had. They were good, really good, but I thought they were a bit overpriced at $22 for half a rack
I had the turkey sandwich which was pretty good. We also had one of the wraps, that had to be sent back to the kitchen, because they didn't add any turkey. The sides were OK - but no one finished them.
I would probably go back, especially if I wanted a good local beer. They had better not be out of the beer I want next time. Don't expect great food or great service.
As someone who hunts down the beer spots, in a town, I was thoroughly unimpressed with just about everything Moon River Brewing Company had to offer...
Their beers aren't very good. Â Their brewmaster seemed to have zero imagination or real skill.
The food was mediocre, at best. Â Everything seemed frozen and/or packaged. Â The cooks share an imagination with the brewmaster.
Bellying up to the bar, our service was TERRIBLE. Â It was so bad, fellow patrons (on BOTH sides of us) made comments like, "Wow, she's happy, huh?" and "Geez. Who ticked her off today?"
The atmosphere was okay (albeit brightly lit up like a grocery store instead of a bar) and the prices weren't terrible (though I guess you get what you pay for?)... but I've got no desire to give this place a second shot...... and I recommend you don't give it a first.
(to the tune of "Moon River"--here's Audrey Hepburn singing it*)
Moon River, you kind of make me smile,
But you made me wait awhile,
To sit.
Oh, food's fine here, if you dine here,
But I wouldn't go out of my way just for it.
The beer's so-so, service is just fine.
The wings are mediocre, too
But don't let that stop... you to try
A burger and some fries
And then perhaps some sides
Moon River and me

It's in a cool old historic (possibly haunted) building. I didn't see any disembodied spirits, but the embodied ones working there were plenty grumpy. They were not particularly busy but were borderline rude. For this former server/bartender to tip 50 cents on a beer means that I felt pretty dissed.
The beers are not very good. For a tasty beer selection and friendly service in a casual atmosphere in Savannah, check out the Mellow Mushroom.
Service was great, but we were seated at a 2-top when our reservation info specified a 4-top; my hubby's 6.5ft tall, making it cramped for arm and leg movement.
The garlic fries are fantastic! They have a great balance of sweet and savory. The burgers were good and cooked to our preference, but the beef was a little dry. The escalloped Gouda potatoes were creamy and flavorful. Their pale ales are pretty good; mix the Apparition and Slo-vannah and you've got a REALLY good light ale!
There were private parties present during our visit so, unfortunately, we didn't get to visit the other floors to chase ghosts. The ladies' restroom could use better tending to, but it was clean enough.
Haunted beer? Yes, please. The town of Savannah, GA is full of history, quirks and supposedly houses and hoards the majority of our nation's unsettled spirits. Savannah is rumored to be one of the most haunted cities in the United States.
Moon River Brewing Company is located in the heart of Savannah and is a perfect place to start a suspicious stroll through the town. Groups of ghost tours frequent the brewery on the hour which only strengthens one's suspicion.
Beer after beer as I awaited my mediocre meal, the questions began to pile up. I couldn't help but ask the waiter what the deal was. He told me a brief history of the building's past and let me know this brewery was featured on Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures." He said the basement is open to restaurant patrons if I wanted to go explore. Once the drinks were flowing and I was feeling bold, I braced myself (and my boyfriend) and we scurried around the basement.
The building was erected in 1821 and to this day keeps the integrity of its original floor plan. It started as a hotel, survived the Civil War and has been recently recognized as a top American brewpub. If you love history and are looking to drink some delicious brews, you've got to go. The food is awfully average, the menu is so predictable it'd make you think you're a first generation psychic, but the location is a history haven. It's a great place to grab a drink and find out about the spooky town you're expected to cuddle up and fall asleep in after learning about its dark yet colorful past.
3.5 Stars. Who would make a brewpub their first stop in Savannah? Umm...well, it was lunchtime and it was near the hotel, so it was strictly a matter of convenience...honestly.
We were seated quickly at a table in the back and went about deciding on food and drink. I obviously wanted to try one of their own brews, which were surprisingly limited, and decided on a Moon River Jasmine Saison, a semi-strong Belgian type.
For lunch I ordered a Tasty Wrap, filled with ground beef, nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato and jalapeños with a side of sweet potato fries. The wrap, a great alternative to what I would normally order, definitely lived up to its name. We also all shared an order of onion rings, which were the best I've eaten in a long time. I think it was the Cajun seasoning that completely won me over.
Overall, a good meal to start our time in the beautiful city.
