I decided to give this place another shot with our group just dropping in on a Thursday night. There were ~12 of us and our experience really couldn't have been more different than my prior review! I'm happy to say that Jessie (our waitress) was super pleasant and efficient. She did everything right. The food was good, served hot (or cold for my salad [g]), fast and checked in on us if we needed anything else with reasonable frequency. On the way out I had a chat with her and Keith (manager), explained both experiences and praised her work. She obviously takes pride in her work and it shows. We'll be back with this group on Thursdays and make sure to ask for Jessie!!
Review Source:My last lunch at Morse Tavern was a total buzz kill because I was looking forward to it.
The California Wrap was missing avocado. When we brought this to the attention of our server, she said, "Oh, well, they must have forgotten it", and walked away! We heard her in the kitchen yelling, "Hey, you guys forgot the avocado". That was it. No offer to replace it, No avocado, No discount. No nothing. There's more negative to share, but I won't digress. Suffice to say, I won't be back there for lunch.
Not a bad place and I really like the bar area with the highboys. Â Service is friendly and sometimes can be slow so be aware of that if you are on a timeline. Â Most of the time I'm here, it's just watching the game or relaxing after work so it doesn't phase me at all. Â Food is standard, pub style food and I usually get the burgers, sandwiches or the fish and chips.
Review Source:We had a huge group meet up for dinner. Â We had a side room with a long table set up for us which was great. Â We got to talk and visit without the rest of the activities out in the dining room and bar area (which were also very busy).
We had only one waitress and it was a little slow at the start and we were all a bit leery since we had to ask for a few things like butter for the bread, straws for the sodas but we went with it and tried to be a good bunch. Â In the end she was great. Â She relaxed a bit and was really on her toes and got all our drinks and food out.
They have always done well with lamb and this might was not any different. Â Great tasting tips with mashed and mixed veggies.
The o rings and the fish and chips were a little too greasy so I'd recommend something else.
Based on other reviewers and my experience it seems hit and miss at times. Â The owners work and try hard to make things right.
This place is seriously GROSS. Greasy food, extremely slow service, all of our food was absolutely disgusting. One of us ordered the buffalo pizza - it was so greasy that you couldn't pick up a slice without everything falling off and soaking your hands (and lap) - and somehow the crust tasted stale. The pickle on the caprese flatbread sandwich was edible. If you like horrible food and bad service, and have 1.5 hours to order and wait for your food, go to Morse Tavern - you'll love it!
Review Source:I had family visiting from out of town last week so we decided to try out Morse Tavern. I had been there once before for drinks. We ordered the artichoke and spinach dip which was tasteless.
I ordered the Chicken Parm "Olde Natick Favorite" which was also tasteless plus the menu said it came with spaghetti but mine came with zitti. Nothing about the meal was flavorful. The only highlight was the New England Fish N' Chips that the other people in my group ordered. They couldn't stop raving about it.
The service stunk though. It was a quiet Monday night and the food was very slow to come out of the kitchen. Maybe if I lit a road side flare our waitress would have remembered to come back and check on us from time to time. Basically she disappeared for large stretches of time.
I so wanted to like this place but it's the same people that owned the restaurant before it, Nicholas. That establishment closed and they still haven't learned from their mistakes. I won't be back.
We have some mixed feelings on this place since our last visit.
On one hand, the food remains quite good. Prices are slightly north of "reasonable" but there's no denying that everything was well cooked, and that portions were huge.
On the flip side, we felt service was seriously lacking that day... and it was QUIET that day. Our server was a bit on the ditzy side, and despite us going through drinks like the wind (we were very parched that day), we'd practically have to tackle the server to get more refreshments. Again, on a busier day, this would be forgivable... but it was a ghost town.
The other thing that we discovered was that the mixed drinks were quite bad. We tried the sangria, which was just shiraz with a ton of ice, and a fruity martini that had no kick.
So yeah, I know consider the morse tavern to be hit or miss. Will tentatively return.
Being a local of natick, I was really excited to see Nicholas restaurant converted into Morse Tavern.  This town really needs a good local spot.  Unfortunately, Morse Tavern has the same kitchen staff and a similar  menu as the Nicholas.  Catering to a less discerning dining crowd, they do not offer much fresh, seasonal, or must-have food.  Even the basic burger and nachos are not worth eating.  If you love the early bird special, bland food, or otherwise unimpressive dining, then this is the spot for you.  After three visits in the past few months, I continue to be disappointed.  The bar is great for a few beers and the atmosphere is nice for a pub, but those are it's only redeeming quality.  Be warned.
Atmosphere: 4/5
Wait staff: 3/5
Food: 0/5
Bar: 3/5
Due to the lack of beer selection and the poor food quality, I'm only giving a single star.
We sat at the bar...we wanted a quick meal after moving all day. We were still in our moving clothes & wanted some quick comfort food & drinks. The lobster mac & cheese was loaded with lobster claws, the burger was cooked exactly as we requested. We had rum & cokes and were offered a choice of rum..fresh lime wedges too. Service was quick & friendly. We'll go back.
Review Source:The food here is ok, average pub food. I think it's a nice addition since downtown Natick has nothing really going for it food-wise. The servers are all pretty nice, but we have twice now had complaints about the food here (the spinach artichoke dip was so garlicky I couldn't eat it, and my husband's cheese steak was ice cold) and both times the waitress looked at us blankly and walked away - no telling the manager, no manager coming over. They need some work!
Review Source:I live close enough for an easy walk to Morse and I stop in there with some frequency. Â While it is popular at times and Natick needed a place like this, there is much room for improvement.
Drinks: Â Not a huge selection on tap but the beer is always cold. Â I actually think they added taps since they reopened as Morse in 2011. Â They serve Wachusett Blueberry and clearly don't use fresh blueberries since those little suckers don't float one bit like I've seen in other places. Â This tells me the fruit is frozen to start. (say what you want about fruit beer, I'm just deducing the freshness of their product). Â Overall though a good place to grab some beers. Â Oh and they have the 16 or 22oz choice and price is reasonable.
Food: All bar food which isn't a bad thing. Â But....I finally got tired of everything being extremely greasy and ordered the grilled veggie wrap. Â Sopping wet with oil. Â If not for the food this place would get three stars. Â And I'm a comfort food junkie so to order a veggie dish with my beer means I'm pushed to the limit. Â I"m not sure I can eat there again. Â And don't be in a rush when you order food.
Decor: the layout makes for some awkward angles on the TV's but I can make due with that. Â Saw a bunch of B's playoff games in the cup run last year and enjoyed it. Â Would watch games there again. Â I rarely sit in the restaurant since the food isn't what I go there for.
Nightlife: Â They've started to crank up the music volume on weekend nights which is somewhat out of character for the place and not comfortable at all. Â Gets crowded in the bar area at times but usually we can make due by sharing a part of long tables.
Service: I've had good and bad. Â It's all on the individual. Â Overall pretty decent. Â It's weird when the owner sits at his own bar and has drinks, though. Â Usually waitresses in the tables near the bar are responsive.
Big Picture: A decent addition to Natick, which needed something for those of us who don't want to go to the 'golden triangle' for a drink and a game. Â But with the town letting out some more liquor licenses any quality competition would steal me away even despite my short stroll to 'Morse'.
For those not in the know by now, this restaurant used to be a Greek restaurant called Nicholas (and the famous Nick's Ice Cream before that). Although this restaurant is described as an Irish tavern, you can still see evidence of the Nicholas version of the restaurant, from the spanokopita appetizer, lamb entree, and baklava dessert on the menu to the actual printed bill (which oddly still says Nicholas). The owners are the same from Nicholas as well.
I dined in the bar area with a friend for Monday Night Football. I had the lobster mac & cheese, which was made with elbow noodles in a creamy cheese sauce and lobster claw meat. It was generally fine. The plate included a side of broccoli florets, served plainly, and (very strangely) a side of whipped potatoes. As if I needed more starch to go with my mac & cheese? Seems that the broccoli and potatoes were staged to go with whatever entree met the plate. This was lazy in execution, and the kitchen should do better.
For beer, I had the Sam Adams Seasonal on tap, which was the very good Winter Lager on my visit, served nicely chilled. As I reviewed the beer list, however, I would have expected a longer list for a tavern (and two of them weren't available at the time). A Wachusett Brewery draft beer was also available on tap. I think the restaurant should get in more of the local breweries' beers to stand out among taverns. From the looks of the bar, they have all manner of spirits if that's what you prefer. The wine list was short, but this is a tavern, after all.
In terms of layout, there are several flatscreen TVs in the bar area of varying size, but none in the dining area. The layout of the bar area creates some odd viewing angles where some screens are not fully visible. For example, I sat in the area by the bay window at the front of the bar room, which cut off the viewing angle for some TVs.
All in all, I found it to be an average tavern experience. Beer was good but a tavern should have more variety. The food was average as far as taverns go. If you are going mainly for the social atmosphere and drink, then this is probably the place for you.
I tried Morse Tavern for the first time this past weekend and was very impressed. I love the fun atmosphere, the service was great and my companion and I both enjoyed our meals. We shared Mrs. Morse's Stuffed Portobello Mushroom...sooo yummy! I had the Morse Tavern Panini, which I loved and my friend had the Steak bomb...didn't get to try a bite since he cleared the plate. Can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Really thought this place would be good... We got sat down. Waited for a few minutes. My mother had a question but our waitress (dana i think) walked away and just seemed very annoyed that she would ask a question. She also disappeared for long stretches of time... Â My order was messed up and the other waitress ended up helping us..
The food was all right.. I've had better...
They really need to work on the people that work there..
I recently went with a large group of people for dinner, and I don't think we had a single problem.
Pros: Great service, food taste was fantastic. Their bacon cheeseburger is a must have. Fries were perfect. Their Fried Calamari was surprisingly delicious and finally their Artichoke Spinach dip was by far my favorite. Great for sit down restaurant. I did not check out the bar.Yet.
Cons: Menu limited to burger/sandwich/wrap/soup and salad type of items, so if that is not your thing, you may have to look elsewhere. I don't happen to be this type of person but their bacon cheeseburger met my expectations.
The bar area was decent, although can get crowded on game nights. The beer selection was not huge, and the menu is nothing special. We ordered various different apps and the food here is not good at all. When you can tell that we are eating frozen food that was just heated up, it's not very appetizing. The fries was limp, the artichoke and spinach dip was watery, the chicken fingers were dry, the wings barely have meat on them. =/
Review Source:Came to the new Morse Tavern (which formerly was Nicholas Restaurant) to watch a hockey game. Â The bar area was packed and we had to stand a bit until a bar table opened up. Â They had 5 flat screen TVs (1 which is really big but seems to be dimming around the edges...) Â
The owner was very friendly. Â They only had 6 beers on tap and no microbrews, which was really disappointing. Â I heard they are going to add more beer selection soon. Â more BEERS please!
Prices: Â Ridiculously affordable. Â $5 for a big basket of sweet potato fries. Â $5 for a Guinness on tap, and $5.50 for a mixed drink of vodka/Sprite. Wow! Â Believe me, they do not water down these mixed drinks either. Â
Consensus, I'm coming back. Â Minus one star for lame, old flat screen TV and lack of beer variety.
