i love this place its like cheers everybody knows my name and there always glad i came. tiff and the girls behind the bar are awesome and they really upgraded the place with all the new TVs and don't forget to say hey to mo the bouncer at the door hes the man!! plus if you close this place and still need a drink its just a block and a half walk to there sister bar the mark 2 open till 4 and 5 on sat. fun times!!
Review Source:Great local dive bar. If you want to go to a bar that isnt that crowded has good food and cheap drinks this is the place. Â Theres alotta locals in here who have been coming for years. The free pool table and darts is a plus as well. The bartenders are all great especially Terry, shell take good care of you! Only negatives is the location kinda sucks, and the decor inside is kinda dull, not much music inside, and can be pretty empty on "busy nights" Although if u go with a group of friends for a chill night out youll deffinetly not regret it!
Review Source:Excellent service, great food! Â New micro brews. Â Pool tables and awesome dart boards. Â I really like that this my neighborhood bar, always friends here and friends I haven't met yet. Â Meet me at Mullen's, their slogan that I use all the time. Â Mullen's on Western is the original and still the best!
Review Source:Mullen's has been a regular spot for myself and my coworkers. After long hours of dealing with kids, you'd need a snack & an adult beverage too. Ahh, the joys of social services. This place definitely hits the spot.
Anyway, the bar has pretty typical pub food but they have pretty good specials throughout the week. Some favorites have been beer buckets and 35 cent wings on Wednesdays. I'm a fan of the BBQ, teriyaki, and cheesy garlic sauces for the wings. Parking is plentiful in this area and you can park in the Blockbuster lot across the street if you leave a Mullen's menu on your dash. I'll be back!
This is my neighborhood go to spot. With a lack of great bars in the are, particularly dive bars, you pretty much have a few choices within walking distance of my place. Mullen's has the essentials, decent bar food, decent food and drink specials, pool table, darts and plenty of TVs with multiple games.
It took several years for this Mullen's location to finally get their act together on the TV situation. Â For so many years there were no HD signals for the flat screens. It was pretty ridiculous that to watch any game, especially football or hockey you had to deal with crappy pictures. Well, finally someone wised up and got a few new TVs and HD signals. Â Now, I can come here every weekend for the Bears game.
As far as the food goes, it's hit or miss. What you are guaranteed to get are some of the best wings in the city, hands down. I've been a avid fan of Buffalo Joes but they have fallen off and gotten more expensive. Mullen's wings are cooked to perfection, big and meaty and with a variety of sauces (cheesy garlic are the best, or you can get jerk, teryaki, hot, mild, BBQ, etc) so this is your best bet, $0.35 wings on Wednesday, half price apps on Monday (including wings), $2 burgers or brats & $1 hot dogs on Sundays, along with other specials.
Outside of the wings, the burgers are mediocre but fine on special and other sandwiches are edible to tasty. The best sandwich which I often get is the Sante Fe with grilled chicken, peppers, onions, & jack cheese. Â Other apps are standard bar food so nothing spectacular. The chips and salsa is pretty good and a fair bet at $4.
The only issue I really have with the menu is the price of the basket of fries or tots. For some reason Mullen's thinks it's reasonable to charge $6 for a basket of tots. Now, it's a big basket but it's pricey for a bar like this. Just create a small and a large to give people options. Same with the fries.
As far as beer goes, it's not the best selection. Typical for a dive bar type place but Mullen's goes for the sports bar atmosphere mixed in with the local crowd. Mullen's could really use a craft beer or two, just a Half Acre or Metropolitan to keep it local. However, the best beer you're going to get is a Sam Adams or Newcastle. Luckily, I'm not a beer snob and I can drink High Life all day.
Service is fairly good and attentive, even on game days. Everyone is pretty pleasant and you can strike up a convo with most people who work there. Make sure to have an extra $1 to rent some darts or put your name on the board to play pool.
They have darts and a pool table! AND, an old arcade-style gaming machine! Amazing!
But the most amazing part of my evening here was Tony's pot roast sandwich. Our server recommended it and I agreed, it was good!
The bad parts of the night I went? Aside from the awful karaoke singing, the place had very few tables, and our server didn't check up on us as often as we'd like her to--- I was out of water by the time she came around, and when she said she was going to bring us more water, she completely forgot about it for about 20 minutes!
I'd come here just for the sandwich. The not-so-great service is to expected of a sports bar, so I'm not too bothered by it. Plus, I like watching other people play darts and pool. I could, however, do without the karaoke.
Credit cards accepted only for $10 or more, by the way.
Tonight Myself and my Son Nick went to Mullen's on Western!
I had previously been to Mullen's a few times before with
my Friends, Loved it then, Love it Now!
Mullen's is a Sports Bar first and Foremost, Â But there is
definitely more to Love here-
This whole place, so Inviting, A Rowdy Crowd tonight for
sure but thats Okay, after a few Miller Lites I was Feeling It!
Just a Great Bar to hang out at, Pool Tables and Dart Boards for
people who wanna take a break in the action from having Da Beers-
However, be warned, Getting an available Pool Table may be difficult at Mullen's, they have Leagues there on Certain Nights-
Lots of T.V's to watch Sports, A Great Bar Area, I Love this Bar!
Nick and I had Dinner here tonight which was very Good, Certain Bars
have the Best Burgers and Mullen's is at the Top of the List, Their
Moonburger is Awesome!
My Son Nick had Buffalo Chicken Wings which he liked enough, but he Loved his Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich More!
In General, Mullen's delivers Great Food along with Great Drinks,
Everytime I have had Food at Mullen's I have Never been disappointed,
This Place, Friendly, Inviting, Great Crowd, Great Food,
Mullen's was very Busy tonight and our Server for the Most Part
was there when we needed her to be, so I give her a thumbs up for Service, deserving of the pretty good tip we left for her-
Menu Prices are pretty much where they should be for a Comparable/Bar Restaurant, $9.00 for my Burger and $9.00 for Nick's Steak Sandwich, Not quite sure how much the Miller Lite's were, by this time I was Happy, not caring too much......
So, is Mullen's on Western one of my Favorite Places to have
Great Drinks, Great Food and just a Great Time?
Absolutely Yes, They have Nightly Menu/Drink Specials which are definitely worth checking out.
I have a Mullen's on Clark in Wrigleyville not far from where I live but
still prefer Mullen's on Western-
Awesome Place, A Great Time Tonight!
One of my Favorites for Sure! :)
Soooo we found this place when we were looking for a decent neighborhood bar-type-place. OK, not exactly walking distance from us, but worth the short drive (or bike ride!)
This review should be called "review of the Mullen's Wednesdays" because we are there on Wednesdays only. Once, we went in on a Tuesday I think and it was a pretty bad experience. OK, back to Wednesdays:
This is the night when their awesome wings are the weekly food special ($3.50 for 10). LOVE THEM. The selection of sauces is great, but the last few times I've been sticking to the Caribbean... (I think we've tried all of their spicy ones, and they're all good.)
If you get the right server, you will get your drinks and your food pretty fast. ( pssst: The redhead is the right server. ) While the other servers are too busy pulling their shirts down and trying to fit into tighter pants to get a better tip, our redhead simply does her job and does it well. We messed up a couple of times: once we were there on a Tuesday (she wasn't there) and once we sat in a section that is not hers....neither will happen again.
Other things others might be interested in: many TV screens with sports, many dart boards, one pool table, some seating booths.
Actually, I kinda want to play pool each time I'm there. Unfortunately, the same group of people is always hogging the table on Wednesdays. :(
yep.
A good variety of bar food. The usual taps. Also seasonal Lienie's on tap, which was 1888 Bock.
Had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, which was sliced not pulled. Others in our party had the Buffalo Chicken wrap, which was spicer than they thought.
It is a bar foremost and it has 4 dart boards, with a wall of dart competition plaques.
The best part about Mullen's in RP is the specials. The 35 cent wings (up from 25) are great. The pizza is good for the price (kind of like a frozen pizza with more cheese). The drinks are strong. The dart boards are excellent. I subtract a star for two reasons. First, the $2 Tuesday burgers are not as good as 2 $1 McDoubles. Second, this stretch of Western reminds me of everything that's wrong about mid century urban renewal. Like a little stretch of LA-fication in Chicago, without the palm trees.
Review Source:Since we moved to West Ridge, we've driven past Mullen's several times and every time we drive past, I say "we should really try that place some time." Â Last night was "some time", so we decided to stop in for dinner.
Wednesday night wings for 25 cents (and these wings are pretty big!).  The wings were tasty (and cheap!), the service was okay, and the beer was cold.  Mullen's definitely has more of a BAR more than a RESTAURANT vibe, which  means it was loud and dark.  The patrons seemed to be having a good time, and many seemed like regulars. Â
If you're into darts, there are plenty of dart boards and pool tables available.
How can you go wrong with 25 cent wings on a Wednesday? Â The service is pretty fast and the non-wings food is decent too. Â Their beer selection on-tap keeps both the beer snobs and frugal drinkers happy. Â If you end up going for wings, the 6:00 window is the best. Â There aren't too many tables, but there's pool and darts to keep you busy if you have to wait!
Review Source:I had no idea that the place I gave a lackluster review about in Lisle was related to the (soon to be) lackluster review in Rogers Park, and also a (probably) lackluster place in Wrigleyville.
The layout of the place is different from the one in the west 'burbs, there's a huge area for darts-it seems like a dart players heaven as well as a free pool table. Okay, cool, get to the table  where my friends are already and felt pretty stupid that I didn't put two and two together and realize that Mullen's-Lisle would probably be related to Mullen's-Rogers park.
Anyway, I get there and see that their beer selection was okay, actually not as good as the one in the burbs, but decent enough. Our waitress was pretty...well she was just pretty bad, slow service, when she came to check up on us we barely had enough time to say we're fine before she moved on.
As far as the place goes, I think they had a dart league or something. I believe it was the annoying drunk league because every once in a while there would be a loud scream from hitting the mark and then just a loud chest bump from two dudes who probably just had their physical activity for the week. 1 am and just nothing but loud annoying guys throwing sharp objects near me, with an okay beer selection and pretty bad service? Yeah, no thanks.I'll go somewhere else.
My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. On a yelp recommendation, we tried the artichoke dip, which was excellent. I ordered a BLT, which was huge and came with seasoned fries. BLT hit the spot - crispy bacon is a must. My husband had a gigantic spinach salad with bacon, bleu cheese (I think), and pears. It was very good. The only drawback is that the pears were canned, but for some reason we didn't really mind. He also had some wings and he gave them the thumbs up. The atmosphere was very casual, including the waitstaff. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the basketball games on the tv's or just socializing. We will be back!
Review Source:This place is real chill, has good bar food, lots of TVs tuned to sports, and fast service. It's in Rogers Park a couple of blocks past Howard St. on Western. So if you want to get away from Evanston, it's about 5 minutes out.
Even if it is bar food, the menu is pretty extensive, well priced, and good! The spinach artichoke dip was on point AND served with warmed pita bread, not chips. That always sells me on the food. The burgers are good, the wings are good, and they have some sort of special every night of the week. The waitresses are always really nice and there are lots of seats and an area to play darts. Good deal.
I've never been here on the weekends but...I would be a bit concerned about overflow from The Deuce (aka Mark II Lounge).
The friendly brother of Mullen's on Clark, this incarnation of Mullen's has more room for darts and more trophies from the Windy City Darters hanging from the wall. This Mullen's is more serious for darts as they sell replacement flights and hold a blind draw tournament on Saturday nights. The average player in Mullen's is regulars and will likely bring their own darts. Players at Mullen's are friendly and knowledgeable about the game and I would contend with the notion that the patrons are  trashy. The food is the same as Mullen's on Clark and there are drink specials most nights of the week here.
Review Source:3.5 stars
Used to really like this place, but now I don't know...
Patrons can be too trashy (and that's saying a lot, because I am amused by a certain level of this, and I'm not all that high-fallutin' myself), a few of the bartenders have been neither friendly nor efficient.
So, that makes it just another bar I guess.
Food is definitely above average for bar food.
Decent jukebox. That raises it to 3.5. I'm a juke junkie.
Not bad! Â I'm really a fan of the fact that they have a TON of dart boards and it doesn't feel like you need to be dressed to impress at this neighborhood locale, even on the weekends.
Decently priced beverages and fairly cordial wait staff. Â The crowd is ethnically diverse, spanning a few generations, so anyone is bound to feel comfortable when they walk into this watering hole.
And let's talk about the karaoke! Â I'm not much of a singer, but I'm impressed with their HUGE selection of songs. Â I'd say it rivals, if not dwarfs, the choices at a place like Trader Todd's or Hidden Cove.
Pot roast sandwiches on garlic bread with great grilled veggies or tater tots and cold beers, 8 sports TV's, 8 dartboards and to top it all off - all sweetie, cute-assed waitresses! Life is good. Food till 1 a.m. Monday  thru Saturday and 10 pm Sundays. Liquor until 2 am. Decent prices. Good service.
Review Source:My home away from home. Â Excellent food, friendly service, plenty of parking available. Â My friends and I frequent this establishment on a regular basis. Â Several dart boards, free pool, plenty of tv screens, and an excellent jukebox. There's always something to do. Â They have both pool and darts leagues and the place can get packed depending on the night. Â Friday night karaoke always draws a crowd.
Review Source:LOVE IT! Â My husband used to play darts at Mullen's when it first opened. Â Very diverse crowd. Â The owners are great, the bartendars are pretty reliable... the waitstaff, well it leaves something to be desired. Â All in all, though, the place is worth stopping at for a beer/darts/pool/whatever. Â All my friends on the northside still hang out there and we pop in from time to time, even though we're way out in the burbs.
Review Source:My cousins are regulars at this place and they always seem to have a good time. Â Every Friday night, we all meet up here to play darts. Â It felt like a place for regular locals, but just recently they've added kareoke on Fridays. Â Kareoke seems to have increased their number of customers. Â The excitement and encouragement from everyone there keeps the singers going! Â I recommend this bar! Â By the way.. the chicken wings and hummus is very good here.
Review Source:Check out the other reviews, this place is a lively good time. Very local in the sense that there are many local regulars, its a neighborhood bar. Â
I attended High school closeby, so I've bumped into alot of old friends, etc. Â Even though you might feel out of place upon entrance, the staff and customers are welcoming. A wall full of free dart boards and a free pool table. Always good drinks specials, which can be seen online. (Though, they haven't updated the site recently. ) They also own the afterhours bar located just across the street(Mark II) brings alot of the local college crowds. They have food, burgers are decent and filling. I stay away from the pizza, it looks like its Jewel brand.
I've thrown a few open bar parties, the packages are very reasonable. Management, very helpful. Â Lots of TV's, lively, music isn't too loud and they will take requests, not bright and not too dimly lit.
If you are looking to do a party, even if you only have 5 people, they will accommodate, check out the rates. I believe you ask for Renee.
Its a good time.
Lots of dart boards at this place. Â They've got some decent bar food too, including half off pizzas on Mondays. Â This place is really crowded on Monday nights after 8pm because of darts league. Â The staff is very friendly. Â Also they have drafts of the month that are some pretty good deals.
Review Source:This is a cozy spot for good drinks and great food. A wall of dart boards, a pool table, and several TVs will keep everyone entertained. The menu has lots of tasty items, but watch for the specials because they'll knock your socks off, especially the Shepherd's Pie. Friendly atmosphere and service and good prices will keep you coming back.
