My brother told me to take my time arriving at his house so I took the hint and we stopped for a sit down lunch on the drive upstate. The waitress was so nice and it reminded me that while people in NYC aren't outright mean (usually), they aren't generally this type of nice. Â It was refreshing and warming. Â
I was starving by the time we stopped because I had skipped breakfast so I ordered a spinach omelet with toast and homefries and gobbled down the whole thing. Â When the waitress asked if I was done when there were just a few bites left on the plate I practically shouted no and she just said good for you! Haha.
I also drank buckets of coffee during our meal there and it was great coffee. Â I will keep this spot in mind on a future trip upstate. Â But also, there are so many diners in this one town! What's up with that?
Three things that cause me to rate neptune only 3 stars: 1) I found the french onion soup disappointingly bland (after getting all fired up for it based on others' reviews), Â 2) salad bar is very small and fairly unimaginative and 3) blueberry pie, while tasty, was served icebox cold - not warm as i really prefer (and kind of expect) a la mode pie to be. Â
Despite those three disappointments, service was prompt, attentive, and friendly which somewhat makes up for the just acceptable - but not exceptional - diner food.
