Ordered prime rib well, it came burned and hard, did not even look like prime rib, rice taste like it came from uncle bens rice in a bag. They brought me another Prime rib and it took up about 1/2 the plate looked disgusting. There is no way this is a 5 star restaurant. My husband had fish platter combo, nothing special. After reading reviews we went there hoping for a great meal and was very disappointed. Nothing special, just average like Dennys!

Came here after a day at the beach with my youngest son, sister in law and nieces. I'm not sure if our waitress was having a bad day or what. But she definitely killed the great food we had. We ordered the Clam Chowder. No bread bowl. Ok no problem. Asked for sour dough bread on the side and she looked at us like we asked for gold. She said it comes with crackers. We asked again she said she would have to charge us. Um ok. Brings food out when it comes. Having kids with us, we needed more bread. She lets out this long **sigh** and tells us she already got in trouble so she is going to have to charge us again. We were kinda shocked. Like really just bring us some bread. LoL We weren't really sure what her problem was. Seemed she was very normal with other patrons. My son and nieces weren't being bad or loud so I'm not really sure what her deal was. Overall yes good food, service bad. Won't bother coming here again. Really won't miss the 70's decor either. LoL

The Crab sandwich is a must when you come here. They are very generous with the crab and the meat is so fresh (they also went light on the mayo mix for mine). Crab cakes are good, but only if you like crab meat more seasoned (I prefer fresh crab with just its natural flavors).

Drinks are alright. Shrimp cocktail is weak. I'm in the industry, so I still tipped 20% on my check and the waitress overcharged me by $10. That's pretty much stealing from your customers. I will never go back.

Ya know, we've walked by this place on our many visits to Pacifica to beat the heat down here in San Jose so many times and NOT eaten there. We're usually in a hurry to eat at Gorilla's, but decided to try a sit down meal instead.

I think the decor was awesome, but it's awesome in a "reminds me of places my parents took me to 30 years ago" sort of way. They were very, very busy for lunch when we went, which was a weekday, so we had to sit in the lounge for a while.

I had the raw oysters for appetizer and then the crab sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was HUGE. I actually couldn't eat all of it. It wasn't heavy on the mayo as posted by someone else. Fresh crab and lots of it. Lisa and Joey had hamburgers I think which were nice. I couldn't begin to even think of desserts after that massive crab infusion, so we had to skip.

We'll be back.

I could go there just for their garlic bread!
Had the crab sandwich, my favorite, and as always, it was delicious. It is a perfectly grilled crab salad sandwich on buttery sourdough bread with tomato.

Excellent waitress, constantly filling beverage glasses, and very attentive.

Nice peaceful view of the ocean. They have been there since 1927 so they must be doing something right.

We have been here a half dozen times for breakfast and lunch. The service has always been great, the quantity and price are good.
The crab sandwich is the Best. Very little mayo, lots of crab.

The food gets 3 stars, but the view is phenominal, so I added one more. The crab sandwich is fine if you're into heavy mayo-type sandwiches; I'm not. I ate a third of it and had a little tummy ache from the mayonnaise (note: not the fish.) Waitress told me "a very light coat" when I asked. Negative. It was really heavy.

The clam chowder is good-- not amazing-- but lots of clams and satisfying on an overcast Pacifica day. Fish tacos: Fresh and presented well, but completely bland. I added salt because I had nothing else to work with.

Nick's has a view to not be forgotten, though, so make a visit. You won't regret it, but don't expect the food itself to knock your socks off. I've been twice, and not sure I'll return.

The service is friendly at Nick's, and they have the most amazing crab sandwich.

You could call the ambiance dated or you could call it retro. Mad Men needs a San Francisco storyline. Then they could film here. :)

This is a great place to go to when it's boiling hot out in the South Bay. Wish there were even more to do in this part of Pacifica, but in addition to Nick's, there's a little strip of beach nearby and a couple of gift shops on the surrounding streets.

The Crab Sandwich -- add avocado and cheese.
I should have only eaten 1/2 of it, but it was so good I couldn't stop.

Great service, great view. A little pricey, but hey, it's worth it.

This place is very cool for a few reasons:

1. the wait staff is super.
2. the ocean proximity is perfect.
3. the food is the best you get in a small beach town (and rivals big towns, too).

Our only issue was the wait. We had a rather long wait, on a Sunday afternoon, on Father's Day, no less. So that's somewhat to be expected, and it's also expected at some more popular food places in small towns.

Although I think a lot of the people were locals, it makes sense that many were also tourists. It is one of the best restaurants in a ten to twenty mile area.

However, I would have loved a little more friendly approach from the hosting staff given that we would have to wait so long. It would have been nice to have been offered a drink order once or twice. Maybe they asked, but it was brief and kinda like, you're not here. We could have even had an appetizer in the waiting area, right?

I don't know. If you make a reservation in advance, you might be happier. If you walk in and it's not terribly busy, you're also going to be just fine. We will go back at some point, I'm sure, but it helps to prepare and call ahead.

Husband was playing with Mitch Woods here last night, so we went a little early to eat. I had the grilled crab sandwich with eggplant fries and my husband had pasta with meat balls. The sandwich was great and large! Ended up taking half home. The eggplant fries were tasty! Hope my husband has another gig there soon!

It was an unusually sunny yet cool day in Pacifica. So my bf and I decided to check out Nick's for lunch since Moonraker was closed. We were instantly unimpressed yet decided to take our chances anyways. The reviews were decent, but not solidly convincing. The first turn off was the establishment itself. The bar is at the entrance and packed with locals and laughter. We were going to sit at the bar where good service is usually guaranteed, but it was crowded and also dark and dank. A stale smell permeated but somewhat faded out closer to the lounge area closest to the coast. Unfortunately, the parking lot obstructs the nice ocean view. We decided to hang out in the lounge since the wait for dining seemed to be excessively long.

We sat in our antiquated vinyl brown seating in the corner of the lounge and pretty much scoped out the rest of the place while waiting for our drinks which took forever despite the lounge being sparsely populated. The ceilings are low popcorn ceiling like texture with brown beams and old carpet which possesses old musty scents- probably from the time it was called Rockaway Cafe. There is a dance floor with a stage indicating live music. However, the dated condition of this place is not the worst part of it.

The service is pretty bad. Our waiter took our drink orders and advised us we could only order appetizers and sandwiches in the lounge area and handed us two menus. Fine enough. So we browse through the menu only looking at the appetizers. We decided on the steamed clams, but he said we couldn't order those for the lounge. Huh? They are in the Appetizer section of the menu. So, then apologizes and retrieves two tiny bar menus instead with pretty much everything in the appetizer section but the clams. This is where it gets ridiculous. He disappears for approximately twenty minutes. Our drinks are empty, yet we see him attending adjacent tables. We only had a drink each, wanted to order more drinks, try some fried zucchini and sauteed calamari. This guy passed us multiple times and totally ignored us. A manager happened to be walking by at the same time we just decided to ask him for the check which he conveniently didn't hear us ask for although he stood at the table next to us. Thanks to her we got our check right away.

We left cash and took off to the Miramar Restaurant in Half Moon Bay. Seriously, who wants to spend their Saturday afternoon trying to chill out over food, drinks and spend money with crappy lackadaisical service? We certainly aren't up for it. We'll never come here again. There's too many good places around to bother. Next time we're going to Moonraker.

Decent food, nothing more. Ate here twice; once for a late lunch and once for breakfast. I wouldn't have returned for the breakfast but a friend made the suggestion to meet/eat there.

Lunch was okay to good. Service was okay but not stellar. Across from us was a large party with a screaming little brat. This experience re-documented how uncaring some American families are (I live in Germany where this would never ever be tolerated) by simply staying at their table and not bothering to bring the whining brat outside.

Breakfast was just okay. No real complaints other than the food quality/taste was just plain.

No way would I ever eat here again.

Right by the ocean, although your view is obstructed by the parking lot. The ambiance is dated, the decor is full of gigantic signs but very Pacifica-y. The crowd is a bit touristy.

The food: simple diner food with big portion. Price is kinda high, as sandwiches, salads, burgers cost more than $10. Their famous crab sandwich costs $19!

We tried the garlic bread, BLT, and hamburger. They're all meh, the burger is too well-done and the bread is kinda stale.

Service is ok, we didn't need to wait too long to get seated. However we didn't get our food 30 minutes after we got our apps. The waiters are attentive, especially the water boy.

If you're just visiting Pacifica, this place is totally cool for a quick bite.

My co-workers have been raving about this place for a long time so I decided to take my family out to this iconic restaurant in Pacifica. NOT IMPRESSED.

Food is good, but over priced for a dive bar on the beach that needs a make-over.

Suggested by the Best Western across the street, we walked in at 6pm on Saturday. Told it'd be 0:45-1:15 to be seated, and decided to wait.

At 7:30, we were 10-15mins away from being seated.

At 8:20, we were "second on the list", and would be seated "soon."

So we finally left. I think it's inexcusable how we were treated. If they knew how to manage their seating, they could have told us it'd be a two and a half hour wait and we would have gone somewhere else. Or, after the first hour, if they knew it'd be another hour, we could have gone somewhere else.

Very frustrating, and the lack of empathy from the staff made for a wholly unpleasant visit.

Oh boy ! Nick's !!

Great place? Uh.....

If you like dining in 1975 !!

Old decor complete with the smell of old greasy food, funky carpets, and groovy bar complete with a lounge lizard.

Authentic Italian I think not.

If you are looking for a good bite to eat, you want a great view and you aren't in a rush, this is the place for you. The food is pretty good but the kitchen must be some sort of swirling vortex of food, because no matter how busy they are, it takes a while before the food comes out.

There are a few things that you definitely don't want to miss. The eggs benedict are pretty good, this is coming from an eggs benedict snob. Some places make the hollandaise sauce too lemony or just not good at all, but Nick's does it right. Just the right amount of ham, english muffin and eggy, tasty goodness. Make sure you don't miss it.

The other thing Nick's is known for is the crab sandwich. Lots of real crab on a bread. Simple and awesome. Get it, you can thank me later.

A few things to be aware of:
1. Service is hit and miss. More times than not, pretty attentive though.
2. Bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for, right?
3. I have no idea why, but there is no cell service inside.

If you are in the area, or even if it's out of your way, it's worth a stop. I'll definitely be back.

I recently came here for a company luncheon and had a fun time. When we first came in, we stopped by the bar and ordered a few drinks. The bar was oval-shaped and looked like it could hold a lot of folks. My buddy ordered me a beer and Jameson's and it was a little too much on the rocks but otherwise the service was fine.

For lunch, I ended up ordering the scallops which were huge and meaty. The mashed potatoes were smooth too. But at $27 they were definitely on the steep side.

This place has old school charm with vintage decor (apparently it's been around since 1927). If you like nostalgic settings and great seafood then check this spot out. Just know that it's on the pricey side and you're not going to get old school prices.

PS They got an old cigarette machine in the back which reminds me of my days of buying them as a kid!

Five of us go to lunch on the first Friday of each month. Today there were four of us. One rated a 2 because of the small cramped booth, one a 3, the fellow who arranged the lunch rated a 4 and I rated Nick's a 4.
So it should be a 3 but I voted for the fellow that wasn't there. Food was good, Ashley is a very sweet waitress and gave us great service although a bit slow. I would not hesitate to go again...great view and a nostalgic place.

The main reason I'm writing this review? Who ever in the kitchen prepares the oysters on the half shell does NOT know how to properly shuck oysters. Is the manager at Nick's reading this? Oysters have a connective muscle that attaches them to the lower shell. Properly shucked, one slides the knife underneath the oyster right up against the shell and disconnects the connective muscle. Otherwise, the customer has to do it with a fork, an often messy and inconvenient process that frequently leaves the poor oyster in unappetizing shreds.

Otherwise, a comfortable restaurant with decent food and a classic blast-from-the-past atmosphere with friendly, professional service.

Try the Crab Louie. It will amaze you that you can actually get quite stuffed from eating a salad.

Good garlic bread too. Unlike most other restaurants, you can actually taste the garlic.

I love this place!! The crab sandwiches are incredible and something this place is famous for. The bar is a very cool place to grab a drink and appetizers but they also offer their entire menu if you are enjoying happy hour or drinks with friends. If you sit in the main dining room there are ocean views that make the ambiance pretty incredible! A must visit if you are staying on Nick Gust Way or within a few miles of Rockaway Beach!!

After a very disappointing meal at the Moonraker across the street my co worker and I came back over to Nicks and let them know about our horrible experience. Even though the kitchen was closed the owner offered up some crab sandwiches for myself and co worker. I thought this was pretty cool of him and instead of an hour plus wait for food he had the sandwich out in less than 10 minutes. Next time I will stick to what is good and eat at Nicks from now on...You have to try the crab sandwich if you come here.

Oh, man! This place has NOT changed. Not that I've ever eaten here before, but I just KNOW it hasn't changed in 40 years. Reminds me of all the Greek-owned seafood restaurants I used to eat in as a child. I should know, my family also ran one! Same menu, same greek salad, same family pictures on the walls... Love it!
They have a massive bar (filled with salty customers), a live band, and a dance floor (!?!?!?) ala Carnival Cruise 1981. Awesomeness indeed!

Go here for the ambiance, a drink, a bite, the VIEW. You'll catch yourself feeling nostalgic, perhaps for no reason at all. xoxo

From start to finish...

People smoking in front of the front door. Ewww
Upon entering, there was no smile or warm greeting. Just "how many".
Sat at bar. Guys were cool and stinks were.

Food, however, disappointing. Over priced and chicken saltimbocco wasn't traditional. Appetizer was great. Warm feta with sundried tomatoes very good. Dessert good too.

Not worth the $130 we spent.

A LOT OF FOOD!

Great ambiance, the waves, rocks, water splashes....

This was a great photo op spot and one heck of a tucked away place.

We stopped for breakfast and it lasted until we got home late in the evening. This was a great topper from our trip from West San Fernando Valley to San Francisco. Great memories have been created from this trip and I hope my 7 year old remembers it for life.

Thanks Nick's for having us and having a great spot for your customers to be amazed by the forces of nature....

Spend a sunny day walking on the beach, and the minute the sun starts to sink below the horizon, rush in to Nick's with your sweetie and snuggle up with a drink and an amazing view of the setting sun.

Not a bad way to end the day!

One could close their eyes, point to the menu, and find something delicious to enjoy. Seafood-and-steak heavy menu and a bar that certainly knows what they're doing! My kinda place.

Best: Crabcakes!
Meh: I always find hard bits of shell in my (HUGE!) crab sandwich
Silver-lining: I still always order the crab sandwich
Drinks: WOWZA! I've seen friends get tipsy here, I've gotten tipsy here. The bartenders aren't messing around, folks!
Crowd: Gentle happy folks, families, married couples
Price: Yeah, it kinda puts a dent in my wallet to eat here, but that doesn't stop me, ever
Decor: Nautical-whimsy- I find it very charming!

I got in trouble: After dating my sweetie awhile, finally had take-out from here only to have him look at me and say: "Why haven't we eaten here before??" Now it's pretty much a favorite treat-spot for us.

A classic, Pacifica celebrity- on any beautiful day, Nick's is a wonderful experience!

3.5 stars. My mom enjoys an ocean view, so we decided to check Nick's out one Saturday. The view is quite nice, and the restaurant is quite dated, as other reviewers have mentioned.

I got the crab sandwich with avocado and it was very tasty. Not too much mayo, good grilled bread, and fresh tasting crab. My parents and Tintin all got breakfast items and were satisfied with their food. The portions were hearty, so no one was able to finish their meals.

I'll be back for a crab sandwich.

Pros:
- Oceanside view and an un-ironic beachside atmosphere
- Fried calamari was not overcooked
- Staff was friendly (but not very quick)

Cons:
- Tourists and their noisy kids
- Overpriced (would've been a four-star joint, otherwise)

Other Notes:
- I was expecting their "fAmOuS cRaB sAnDwIcH" to be a sorry impersonation of a crab sandwich, but appx 1/3 lb of crab stuff on some serious buttered sourdough toast proved me wrong. Still probably won't come back, though. As tasty as everything was, I don't think what I received justified what I paid.

Most definitely a fan.

The food: unmemorable.
The service: remarkably bad.
The drinks: a-ha.
The view: dynamite.
The t-shirts: Sunny said she'd get me one! Right, Sunny?

According to my algorithm for a-ok-ness, Nick's is a shoo-in. I love the ocean.

But what earns Nick's fan-status is the bar set-up. You could easily get away with having a few drinks with your baby at this bar. This is possibly the only place I know of where the atmosphere is so relaxed that I do not feel guilty having my baby in the bar area. Most of the time, I actually feel like the patrons welcome my lovely child with open arms, almost even beckoning us to sit at the bar. I much prefer the bar to the restaurant. I could easily waste a Saturday here. Perhaps not an entire Saturday with baby girl around, but at least four hours. This is the most chill place on the SF coast that I know of, although I am not an expert here like I am on the Central Coast.

It actually feels as comfortable as your own home or close relative's home. One time, I even took a nap here. It is geographically impossible not to relax here. This is good for my people who have anxiety issues.

Also my sister and I have never fought here, which is immediately remarkable as we have been here a few times together. Although fighting brings us close together, sometimes it is a drag. Ya.

If the restaurant was on its game, this would be an easy 5 stars. But as it is, I think they should be happy for my generous 4-star rating and send me a t-shirt for my benevolence.

I have been coming here for years! The hostess/host are always friendly and very personable! Their dining room has a view of the ocean, which is really nice on a sunny day.

**Food**

If you've never eaten here, I would suggest ordering the crab sandwich. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's DELICIOUS! It's the BEST CRAB SANDWICH ever! http://www.yelp.com/biz_… They're not stingy on the crab and use real crab meat, none of that imitation crab!

Garlic Bread - hot & tasty

English Muffin Sandwich - reminds of McDonald's Egg McMuffin, but probably healthier

Fish & Chips - not a memorable dish

**Service**

Service is always great! There is always someone coming around to refill water or coffee (if ordered).

**Pros**

DELICIOUS crab sandwich
Easy parking
Bar across the other side of the room with a dance floor and live music (on certain nights)
Jukebox - blast from the past
Great customer service
Breakfast served till 1:00 p.m.
variety of choices on menu

**Cons**

outdated
food is a bit overpriced

This restaurant is in Rock-Rock, Rockaway Beach. I've been dying to write that.

This restaurant is old as hell and proud of it. They have a dance floor, a bunch of tvs, and a bar in the same room. It is impossible to get service in this random cocktail area. If you want a drink, you best waltz yourself to the bar and get it your damn self. The crowd at the bar is an odd combo of senior citizens, full-blown drunks, and sports fans. Pacifica, where you at?

The menu is also decidely old school--I ordered the crab cakes, and I think my sister ordered the fish tacos (surprise!)... The food was decent, but I get the feeling we ordered the wrong thing. Like, when the menu says, "home of the world famous ____," you should probably order whatever the _____ is. We didn't do that.

The service is good--she brought my sister about 20 iced-tea refills, so she was pleased.

It's worth mentioning that this place is not cheap. Since it is the only restaurant at Rock Rock Rock-away Beach besides a 50's style burger joint, I think they've got the market cornered. Plus, this is a "seafood" restaurant, so, it is what it is.

Their shirts are cool.

BEST CRAB SANDWICH EVER! and we have been all over since we are from the Bay Area. Went for lunch today and the service was great! Also, the bussers are amazing. They seem to all have each other's backs and refilled our water, iced tea, etc... Prompt service and the food was delicious.

I ordered the spinach salad and the dressing was perfect, not too much. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the crab sandwich. They were both delicious but the crab sandwich was really amazing. We will definitely be back.

P.S. I haven't had Garlic Bread in forever and that's an added bonus!
