Good but not worth the wait
Ordered takeout from Nookies to try it again after a bad first experience and the food was a lot better than when we dined in. The ham and cheese omelette, yum. Big chunks of ham with tons of cheese. Potatoes were still a little soft for my taste, but it was takeout so that might be the problem. The banana nut bread pancake, to die for! We were really satisfied this time.
Finally had the opportunity to come here after years of passing the joint by because of the lines. Turns out that the wait is not as bad as it seems - we were seated in 20 minutes or so.
I ordered the chorizo ranchero skillet, and to be kind, I was unimpressed. First off, the term 'skillet' typically means your food will come on a heavy, black, cast iron skillet that typically sizzles due to the heat combustion between your food and the temperature of the cast iron. My meal on the other hand came on a boring old cold plate. Now, I am no expert, but I have ordered about 100 breakfast skillets in my life and each one is similar: bottom is potatoes, then there are the toppings and finally it is topped with eggs done your way. Nookies version had nothing in common with my prior experiences. The dish came on a plate with all ingredients served in separate areas. One side has beans (which were disgusting!), there was a section for rice, a section for toppings, and finally a section for the eggs, which were not done my way...I ordered egg whites, but was served regular scrambled eggs.
Aside from the misinterpretation or lack of description on the menu, the food itself was hardly edible. I had to ask for hot sauce(s), ketchup, and mustard to try to drown the lack of flavor on the plate. The only reason for giving two stars is because my girlfriend was pleased with her turkey burger.
With the options in the area, I will not be giving Nookies another shot. After all, this is breakfast, the most important meal of the day, and in my opinion, the hardest to mess up.
This place was packed, but we were starving so we sat at the counter to eat. We thought blt's would be something easy and quick but it took a good 15 minutes for them to make our food. I think they forgot about us honestly. But we were entertained watching the staff make fresh orange juice with their really fancy juicer. So we had to try one obviously, they were pricey for a very small glass but it was really worth the price. Juice tasted so fresh and delicious. The food was really good also, can't wait ot come back and try their french toast and specialty pancakes!
