I also bought a Groupon and didn't make it past the parking lot. I can't speak on either the food or service but when I go out for lunch or dinner, I don't want to be nervous nor apprehensive about a place.  A dive doesn't have to look sketchy, dirty and completely unappealing.  And as my friend said - I don't care how much the groupon is for I'm not going in!

I went to this place too because I had also gotten the Groupon Deal. When I saw what the place looked like, I was a bit disappointed.
I should have read reviews before going, because I didn't realize there was smoking allowed. As a nonsmoker, it made me miserable, but my date was happy. Smoking, pool tables, and strong, cheap drinks. He loved it!
He enjoyed his bleu cheese burger (a recommendation by our waiter/bartender) and I ordered the Big Willy. However, due to an error at some point between me, the waiter, and the cook, I received a "Philly" instead. I decided just to have it, since it looked pretty good anyway. After having about half of it, the waiter stopped by to see how we were doing. I mentioned the error, and he offered to get me the correct sandwich, but I just stuck with the Philly. He did fix the bill so I didn't get charged for the other, more expensive sandwich though.
After reading Rusty's review of the Big Willy Sub, I wish I had just asked for the replacement.  Either way, the subs and burgers are made on fresh made bread baked in-house. So even though I don't love Philly cheese steak, I did like the bread.
The waffle fries were delicious, but it's hard to go wrong on those.

Overall, the service was great, the food was ok depending on what you order (or get), but the place is pretty much a dive. If you want to smoke indoors while you play a round of pool or sing karaoke, this is the place to go.
Probably not the best place for a nice date though.

Last week I went to the North Point Bar & Grill for the first time. I was recommended by a friend of mine who told me that they would be having beer pong and cheap pitchers on Wednesday night. When I walked in, the bar was relatively full with a good amount of people.  Robert, the bartender was very friendly and helpful. He introduced himself and took care of me right away. I was there a bit before beer pong began, and he made sure the table was clean, that my ash tray was empty even though I'm not a smoker (smoking is permitted in this bar), and brought over a candle.  Drinks were tasty and the prices won't break the bank. I also had a good time playing and watching beer pong. The host was energetic, the crowd was lively, and it felt very communal. The owner Will also introduced himself to me.  Even if you aren't in the mood to play games (they also have darts and pool tables available) there is enough seating at the rail or surrounding tables to hang out with friends or grab a bite to eat. Although I didn't try the food, the menu seemed to have a variety of traditional American eats and bar food favorites.  Being a vodka drinker, I'll have to go check out Ladies night to take advantage of cheap drinks with my girls one night. I'm also curious to find out some more info about their "Neon" NYE event.

What a strange little place this is...  Good food and cheap prices at this tobacco smoke filled dive bar in Tacoma's nether reaches.

The North Point Bar and Grill is a throwback to a bygone era in Washington State-- specifically prior to 2005, when bars were still filled with the pungent odor of cigarette smoke.  I must admit, I never really realize how much I don't miss those days until I step into one of the few places around that still allows the practice indoors.  The bar is located on Puyallup Tribal land (and conveniently shares the building with a tribal smoke shop), which makes it exempt from the state law.

The interior of this place is nothing special: a windowless box in rather dirty, shabby condition with a couple of pool tables, dart boards, a small stage, and a few TV screens, and a lot of tables and chairs taking up most of the floor space.  Aside from the smoke, something in here kinda stinks (and there's nothing 'kinda' about it when it comes to the men's room).  This doesn't sound like a very good review, does it?

Well, I think that there are several good things going for the North Point.  For one thing, our waitress/bartender was fantastic: friendly, funny, and efficient-- couldn't have asked for more.  The Groupon deal they were offering (this is how I found out about this establishment in the first place; had never heard of it before) made going out to lunch here a great value at $12 for $25.  When we arrived and checked out the menu and the daily specials, though, we realized you don't need a Groupon deal to score some amazingly cheap grub here-- the Monday specials included $3.50 burger & fries and $7.00 steak & eggs (breakfast served all day-- another plus).  Pretty cheap beer and drinks, too.

What really sealed the deal, however, was the Big Willy sandwich: turkey, ham, angus beef, bacon, cheddar, swiss, provolone and toppings.  This thing was like a Meat Tornado on a 12" bun, and it was GOOD!  I had three full meals out of that thing, and each one of them left me full for hours.  Not something I would want to order often, but I was sure glad I tried it.

I'm not sure that I would want to come by here at night; it's in a kinda sketchy part of town (I wouldn't have even realized that this is still within Tacoma city limits if the address didn't say so) and there's a sign posted in the restroom that says something to the effect of 'due to high demand we'll be charging a $5 cover after 10pm'.  Could be interesting, I suppose... but with just the 10 or so people that were in here when I had lunch the place reeked of smoke so I'd hate to see what it's like when they're packed.

Was going to go to North Pointe for dinner.  I didn't make it past the parking lot.  As I passed 6 thugs in the parking lot with two more on the sidewalk I decided I shouldn't eat at a place where a doo-rag is considered going out attire.
