North Side is the best bar in downtown Glen Ellyn, hands down! The food is good, definitely better than average bar food, and they have drink specials daily. The staff is very attentive and always seem to go above and beyond to make sure customers are having a good time. If there is a game on, the bar area can get very crowded, but the crowd that North Side attracts are fun and respectful and make for a lively experience.

Went here to watch the Blackhawks game and was very disappointed. I frequented the bar that was here before so I thought I would check out this place. The waitresses were EXTREMELY rude. We were standing at the bar and were pretty much yelled at to get out of their way. Once we finally got a table we had to ask to get service. Didn't try the food so I can't comment on that.  Will not be going back here.

I like this place... for the burbs. Small, good food and nice staff. It was a super weird Mexican (but not really) place before this and I'm glad to have a sports bar in town that's not super crowded and actually serves good food with awesome deals and pretty good beer selections.

I'm a dyed in the wool South Sider. I never really thought about Chicago in terms of "sides" growing up, but I went to a college in Indiana loaded with rich kids from the North Side (and suburbs) who had nothing but terrible things to say about the part of Chicagoland in which I was born and raised. In time, I came to be defensive of the neighborhoods I loved and before I knew it was firmly entrenched in the South vs. North battle.

Now, I'm firmly Sox over Cubs, Hyde Park over Lincoln Park, Orland over Evanston. If it's south of Madison St., I will praise its virtues.

So you have to imagine I have a little bit of trouble with a place that wears its North Side centrism proudly in its name. Do I really want to eat at place that goes on and on about a team that hasn't won anything important in over 100 years?

    Yes, yes I do.

To start, I really like the atmosphere of this place. I'm always a fan of sports bars, but it seems like most either are too heavily family restaurants or too heavily bars (and I hate going to the ones that seem to want to drink more than eat, for dinner). North Side seems to hit the middle ground pretty nicely.

As for the food, it was pretty good. The nachos (yes, I have to sample them everywhere) were really well done, although the toppings could have been distributed a little better to keep the bottom ones from getting so soggy. The burger was phenomenal. For 7.99 you can add 5 toppings to your delicious juicy burger, which is just a deal that can't be beat. Plus it's on a pretzel roll, which would make even a mediocre burger taste a lot better.

The service was hit or miss. I definitely felt like we had been forgotten at points, but when things needed to get done, they got done.

Overall, definitely a place to go back to, especially when we're already in the downtown Glen Ellyn area.

So yeah, it may be somewhat of a shrine to a side of the city I'm less than thrilled with, but just like the area it's named after, there's still some good to be found.

A solid entry into the sports bar pantheon in downtown Glen Ellyn.

(Here's the funny thing ... same guy owns Tap House Grill about three blocks away. I was slightly disappointed by Tap House but pretty impressed with North Side.)

This is a long, not-too-wide space with brick walls, high-tops and tables, and giant sports logos on the wall. Lots of TVs and a long bar round things out. There's also a patio out back, though we did not visit it.

The menu is not too big (that's a good thing) and with a nice variety -- build-your-own burgers, apps, wings, sandwiches and the like. Prices are also pretty reasonable.

At our table, we shared nachos, I ordered a shrimp po'boy with fries, the husband had a "Ryne Sandburger" and our friend had the Friday night fish fry deal (wedge salad, fish, choice of potato and hush puppies, plus refills on the fish).

The nachos were very good although the chili was somewhat unevenly distributed, leaving the top chips a little dry and the bottom ones soaked. Tasty, though.

I was pretty impressed with my shrimp po'boy. The bread was awesome, the shrimp were cooked just right and the chipotle mayo had just a little kick. The fries were also very good, fresh-cut and cooked well.

My husband's burger looked tasty (and he devoured it), and our friend managed to eat all of his food plus another order of fish.

Service was good although a touch flaky; the food was definitely impressive. The beer list looked decent, not spectacular, and they did have a few specialty cocktails that sounded promising.

While this isn't as close as some sports bars to us, I have a feeling we'll be back -- I could definitely go for another po'boy.

This place was some weird Mexican restaurant with like 6 things on their menu including a burger before switching gears.

We went on a Friday night which was fairly busy.  I was pleasantly surprised by the food and how good it tasted.  The service was slow, but I would definitely go back.
