Cozy, especially if you manage to snag a booth. The drinks are well made and as long as you're conservative with your appetizer choices, it's all good. The empanadas are good, but the "entrees" can be hit and miss. Everyone speaks at least a little English. Overall, it's a good hangout place.

Went here for a lil party my friend had.

Not the best looking place, but the party was chill and fun. Security was very nice. Most of all, pricing was very low.

I just got back from my first(and last ) dinner at novo
Food was ok nothing special ,mohito was ok service was poor
We waited 25 for our appetizer and another 20 min for our entry
I had a coupon from http://restaurnt.com which an owner would not honor despite the fact that we spend $56 and were there on Wednesday night
That is extremely poor customer service and I will tell anyone in neighborhood about it
I live here 25 years and know a lot of people

My dishes were good. I had some of my kids dish...didn't care for her bistc in sauce, sauce needed some herbs.. it was too tomato-paste like. Steak kabobs were fantastic especially the cilatro sauce. The place is pricey but food is always fresh and well made.

I only came here to grab a drink with a buddy on a sunday afternoon. They happen to have a happy hour menu so I ordered a mojito. It was the best mojito i have ever had! they didn't just throw a few mint leaves, they actually crushed it up with real lime pieces and put it my tall delicious drink.

Get the mojito!!

Nice ambience for this part of town (born and raised in Jackson Heights so I have the right to make that comment). I always go for the Penne and sangria which satisfy me, the service is - ehh. Took me forever to get a my water refill and it was obvious I needed it, I was falling off the chair from my sangria.

Before arriving to Novo I was a bit scared, because this place is the only business that was open in the vicinity (I arrived after midnight on a Friday) and the whole strip resembled a cemetery, this place is definitely a hole in the wall. Its situated directly across the street from a Post office in a semi residential area. I cannot comment on the dining aspect of this lounge/restaurant. I was invited to celebrate a friends B-day. The music was a hit or miss, the Dj was good, not great, his musical selection consisted mostly of Latin music, with blurts of hip hop, freestyle, top 40. I disliked the fact that he destroyed the aura by adding too many obnoxious unnecessary sound effects, for example, bombs blasting, truck horns, shots, amongst others. In fact, he did this with a great salsa mix, then he proceeded by adding the annoying bomb blasting effect which caused people to leave the dance area. Anyway, I can't say that I disliked the music, due to the fact that am Latin, and I loved what he was playing. But if you're not into Latin music,I wouldn't recommend Novo. I wish that I could comment on the dining aspect because I saw a waiter pass by me with what seemed like a nice plate of chuletas with tostones yummy! Maybe I need to return and try their food? I just might!

Novo is one of the nicer places to eat in my neighborhood, and its got a great vibe. I really like the food, its quite good and moderately inventive. The service can be a bit off when its busy, but the place is always nice to spend time at especially if you are entertaining guests and the bar is definitely very well stocked and the drinks are mixed excellently. would be a 3 star review in Manhattan, but excellent for queens!

Food is good here. They have all the nice little things to make your meal seem like it is more than it actually is. Square plates, your rice cupped in a little dome, etc etc. Drinks are good also, sometimes on the strong side its usually hit or miss. I have gone here with friends when I dont want to worry about them being 20 and not getting a drink. I took my mother here for her birthday and sadly the night I chose to go it was kinda noisy for a nice quiet dinner. This place usually gets my business when I want something quick and tasty

I came on a Wednesday night around 8 pm to have a drink and a place to talk.

We both ordered a glass of wine each ($8-9 per glass) and some chicken empanadas (2 for $5) and spinach and cheese empanadas (2 for $5). The bartender filled the wine glass all the way up, which was nice of him. In Manhattan, the wine glass is never all the way full, only 1/3 to 1/2 full. But I'm not complaining. :) The empanadas were good, crispy on the outside and pretty moist on the inside. The dipping sauce was delicious.

Although we didn't order anything else, they do have an extensive food and drinks menu. They have about 10 different types of mojitos, magaritas, and specialty drinks, and a decent wine list.

The ambiance was chill, relaxed, and dimly lit, but not so dim that you can't see your own hand in front of your face. They have a bar, tables, and a little couch and coffee table by the door on the left. The waiter was also attentive and would come by every once in a while to check on us.

I would definitely come back if I'm in the area. :)

I came here with a friend a few weeks ago, probably on a Wednesday, so it wasn't too crowded... actually there were only a few people inside. Anyway, we ordered a bunch of tapas... they were pretty good but a little overpriced, I thought. This is is Queens-- it's suppose to be less than Manhattan. It's a restaurant in a neighborhood with working class families and a growing number of young professionals looking to get away fro Manhattan or even parts of Brooklyn. If I wanted to pay Manhattan prices in the outer boroughs, I'd go to Williamsburg. At least the decor was pretty nice.

My husband and I pass by and decided to give it a try and WOW! it was great, we had the strawberry Mojitos so good and cheap, calamari was fresh and was dilish! I ordered the meat skewer and goat cheese salad incredible! then the music started, a Jazz band , so relaxing and wonderful , we are definitely going back!!

I came here a few times to eat in the past.

Nice ambiance but portions were small and food was just "ok".

Prices were high for the neighborhood and the service was not great. In general waiters make you wait rather than "waiting" on you (they may even seem careless sometime).

The good thing is that they never rushed me, so it seems a good place to sit down and relax with friends I guess...

I am writing this fresh off of one of the most disappointing dining experiences of recent. As a preface, I love Jackson Heights, and I wanted to love Novo. I even went here for lunch once and vaguely remember having a positive experience. Despite this, I have to take a few minutes to SHRED this place and steer you in the direction of another place. Save yourselves the exorbitant bill and go somewhere else.
1. The guy working I recognized as one of the owners; he warned us (our party of 2) that he was the only one working at the moment and he might be a little delayed. Fine. The bar was full and there was ONE other table going. He spilled a glass of water when we arrived and then left the napkins used to mop it up on the table throughout the meal... what?? We waited 10-15 minutes to get water/order drinks, another 10-15 to place our meal order, you get the picture. Even when the place was emptying out (it was a Tuesday night), the service did not pick up or improve.
2. Got the spinach and cheese empanadas; they were great, but the sauce it was served with was clearly out of a bottle.
3. Got the chorizo flambe, ended up being what tasted like a Hormel pepperoni sliced, undercooked, and layed out with a ladle-full of grease beside two supermarket-brand bread that wasn't "toasted" as the menu said. Did I mention that this was lukewarm?
4. I got the Lomo, which was so salty that I felt nauseous within a few bites. This makes me sound like a snob and a picky eater, which I am not. I am a tank that will eat anything. I left over 80% of the food on the dish, expecting the waiter to ask me what was wrong. Instead, after what felt like an eternity of sitting there and flagging him down, "Do you want me to wrap that up for you?" Unbelievable.

I don't know. I hate giving bad reviews, and I wanted to give this place a good one, but the experience I had tonight makes me want to have this prime restaurant space filled by a business that wants to please its customers, not piss them off. :(

I really wanted to like this place but the food was only so-so. The only standout was the cheese plate and while the wine selection was pretty decent, the blaring TVs kinda threw me off.

Let me just start off by saying that I love my neighborhood and haven't thought about leaving until I walked into this place.
I hate doing reviews and having to score really low because it makes me feel bad, but tonight there is no remorse.
These people are really something else. I walked in with two of my friends at around 8 or 9 pm for drinks. We were attended to promptly, but needed more time to order some drinks. More time to the waiter meant more than it meant to us!! We waited quite a while for three drinks and the place was not even crowded (it was a Monday night.) Our drinks were great, but our waiter/server was less than hospitable and treated us like we didn't matter because we were ordering JUST drinks. We had a good time because we have a good time just being us, BUT when the bill came we were shocked to learn that they charge gratuity!! ON NINE DRINKS FOR THREE PEOPLE!!! Never in my life have I seen gratuity being automatically charged for a party under six people.
I'm disgraced to have this kind of establishment in my neighborhood.
The drinks are great and strong, but not strong enough to hang on to my patronage.

I went for my friends birthday party. They had bottle specials for $100 from midnight to 1am, in a lounge thats very cheap. The music was very good specially if you like latin music.

Ok this place is nice and invitingly warm. I am though very disappointed in the prices here...

Very expensive and no buy backs especially when we have 7 people and a bill of well over 300.00 come on now... The music was good and the service was decent. I know why the place does not get packed on Friday nights now...

However the later you get there the more of a club atmosphere it turns into. They have a DJ and bouncers at the door so that probably equals a cover charge.

I went here with a group of 7 this past weekend.

Likes = strong drinks

Dislikes = no buy backs

The music was good - especially if you enjoy latin music. We ordered tons of drinks and you would think that they would throw you a few. Seriously, I think that will refrain people I was with from ever going back along with the shady service. We had to wave them down in order to have our drinks replenished.

Also, what is up with the place turning into a dance club come 12am? What was that about...

First and last.

Food is lackluster, and prices are the same as in Manhattan (read: more than $20). I would go here for a drink, but don't waste your time on the food. You can get much better stuff for the same amount of money in Astoria or the City.

My friend and I went close to the end of Happy Hour for dinner and drinks. We were the only ones there for dinner, everyone else sat at the bar. HH drinks were $5-6 for Beer, Apple Martinis, Cosmos, Mojitos, Sangria, Wine.
We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. The portions were TINY. My friend had the Crab Cake which was $17.95; it was just one. Most restaurants serve at least 2, especially for a dinner portion. My friend said it was great, but obviously not very filling. I had the Tapa Burgers which were 2 of the smallest burgers I've ever seen in my life. If you've had a slider before, it's half that size. Very cute, but I've made better burgers at home. Good fries though. For $9.95, it's so very overpriced. The bill came up to $76 with tip. We did have 2 drinks each. If it weren't for the Happy Hour, I doubt I would go back. We had to go to Tomo's for sushi afterwards. I probably wouldn't go back for the food, but maybe for the Happy Hour drinks and only for the convenience of not having to go to the city.

I never know what to expect with this place...for a bit on weekend nights they were starting to have a decent party with a dj and then poof...gone...I go there and I am dancing with older people...which was aight...I had fun...but I just don't know...

I ate here a couple of times and the food was ok...This is one of those places I think a promoter could do something with...maybe get "Sexual Chocolate" in there!

"Let me hear it for Jackson Heights own....RANDY WATSON!"

"Some of the good stuff"

My partner and I went here a while back and the waiter could barely speak any English, which was fine, because we both spoke Spanish! (My partner is from Colombia.) Anyway, we arrived just before the end of happy hour and the waiter refused to give us half-priced drinks! (We arrived at 6:55 and the happy hour was over at 7:00.) Then we placed an order of one appetizer, one salad (to be served with my main course) and an entree.

Well! The appetizer alone took over 30 minutes to arrive and when it did, the waiter also brought out my partner's salad (which was supposed to be his main dish). After we finished, we waited another 20 minutes at which point I was ready to walk out when my main dish finally arrived. Needless to say, I was thoroughly disappointed in the service. The food wasn't bad, but it was definitely NOT worth the wait! I wanted to walk out without tipping, but my partner is too nice.

That was the first and LAST time I will ever eat there!

I've lived in this neighborhood for almost three years now and I remember how refreshing it was to see this restaurant when I first moved to JH - nice menu, jazz nights, and halfway decent brunch. That was then...this is now.

And I'm upset! They've steadily increased their prices on what seemed to be a bi-monthly basis, and the food isn't even great anymore. I stopped going for awhile, then popped in with some friends the other night while we happened to be in the neighborhood. All of the friendly waiters were long gone and they had turned the place into a "club" offering all of the lame, meat-packing district exclusiveness of space reservations (about 10 square feet of space for 20 people and you MUST buy a bottle of Grey Goose) that need to be made a week in advance. Also, there were three obnoxious bouncers patting down guys at the door...i mean, is that really necessary?

We left after one drink...because we were probably going to get kicked out regardless for not reserving a table. So not impressive...they've lost my business.

Maybe it's the 'recession' or this place is just on the way down. We were the only people eating dinner, with just a few people at the bar- yet the staff tried to keep themselves occupied amongst themselves with their cellphones and chat, basically ignoring the few customers that were here. It is just strange when it takes close to an hour for your dinner to be served when there are no other tables occupied in the restaurant. Well, not quite- obvious friends of the waiter arrived at the bar, got a bottle of wine and a little while later had appetizers and then hamburgers brought out promptly. If I ever go back, maybe that's what I should order, the menu has been dramatically pared down and the food wasn't nearly as good as it was 6 months ago. They still have music on some nights, so it might be worth it to come at that time, and don't order anything ambitious.

This was another spot of ours that me and my girls went to religiously back in '05 & '06, our routine was, target, unos and then novo. LOL back in our single days haha. We always had a blast because they play good music there from salsa to bachata to reggae to hip hop, and if you know me I dance to everything, dancing is what I love to do and shit I'm good at it. LOL but anyways, besides the owner of the bar having a crush on me and can be really annoying at times I still managed to have a great time shit free drinks on the owner, holler at that. LOL

So, I was there last night for the following event: http://www.yelp.com/even… and I have to say that it went off without a hitch.

The space is lovely and clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and the mojitos are pretty darn tasty. I didn't get to eat here as I was working the crowd trying to con people to give me money, but I think I might be back because the food smelled amazing. (looked it too, I admit to staring at people's food - uncouth, but I was hungry dammit!)

What I liked the most about this place was that it had a neighborhood feel. Everyone seemed to know one of the co-owners and each other and there was an air of camaraderie that a local stand-by should have.

If you live in the neighborhood, patronize this place! If you're passing by, maybe you might want to stop by for a drink and a seat on their comfy couches.

In any case, Jackson Heights surprised me, in a good way, with this place.

Three.5 stars.

I went late night with a bunch of my friends, and the music (DJ) was SO loud and SO terrible we had to leave. We debated leaving our drinks and running before our ears started bleeding.

Went another time on a Monday night for live Jazz/dinner with the boyfriend. We started with the coconut shrimp which was absolutely delicious- not too fried. I had the salmon which was fantastic, but just a liiiiitttle salty... My boyfriend ordered porkchops which were really good, but it came with sweet mashed potatoes and they were TO DIE for. I would've just eaten three batches of those babies. We ordered a red wine too, on the cheaper end, but it was delicious.

The service was great, but we had to ask them to just give us time to relax- we weren't looking to mow down right away and we purposely waited to order until midway through our appetizer... don't think the waiter liked it.

But it was really a good meal, the Jazz was enjoyable, and I'd go back- but I now live in Astoria so I won't be trekking back to Jackson Heights any time soon.

I like Novo. The food is good and the service is always attentive. The decor is nice, but I'd love to suggest they re-think the way the restaurant is laid out. The bar overwhelms the place and can get quite noisy

I killed some time here (watching my Steelers lose) waiting to meet a friend. The staff was friendly, and there seemed to be a big group of regulars (also friendly). It had a nice feel - sit at the bar, or lounge at a table. Music was good, but I didn't witness any of the live variety that others have mentioned.

Is this the ONLY bar in Jackson Heights?

A friend and I were in the mood for jazz and found this cute place. They have monday night jazz which is really great. Place isn't so crowded and the food is good. Not exceptional, but there are a few notable dishes. The seafood ceviche wasn't raw but with bits of avocado presented in a tall martini glass made it very pleasing to the eye. Their paella also is delicious.

They need to work on the lighting. They keep the lights way too dim. I'd like to see what I'm eating! Overall, a jewel in jackson heights. Definite go for Monday night jazz on a low key night.

OMG I have been trying to write a review for Novo since I lived in Jackson Heights and apparently, it's because it's listed as in Flushing (which it is not). Hennyways. This place has the absolute best ceviche I've ever had, hands down. We also did New Year's Eve here once and they hooked us up nice with lots of free drinks. I've eaten here a ton, and wish I was still by it. One star off for the one time we tried to come for a drink at night and they frisked us. Dude, it's Jackson Heights. We don't do that here.

I walk by this place almost everyday, I have been for about 9 months but I never tried it until today. Our waiter was BEAUTIFUL for starters, and the food was yummy. I had the salmon something or the other, clearly, I have short term memory loss, which came with some veggies and the most AMAZING avocado sauce like thing ever. YUMMMMMMMMMMMY!!! The waiter for dessert would have earned it a fifth star but sadly, that didn't happen.
