Nice little place that pours a proper Guinness.

Drive in from NY to visit some family in GA. Never been to Savannah before but I definitely saw what everyone meant about tourists. (Even though I was one also) Came to O'Connells on the advice of a friend who's a Savannah regular. Great smal place to escape the crowds of tourists. Felt like I was back home in my favorite Irish pub in NY. Laid back, good whiskey (I recommend the Red Breast), and good tunes from the juke or the bartenders computer with Pandora. If you're looking for flashy, touristy, etc. go somewhere else. Just a heads up, no food.

Dan the bartender is THE man.
    This is a great gem.
Solid, well-earned, 5 stars in a district FULL of neat little bars.
A bunch of soccer mom teachers from rural OH showed up and filled the place adding an entertaining vibe ...
Didn't see any skinheads nor hooligans in 3 trips on consecutive week-nights.
    Must see.

TINY Irish pub. Very quaint, good beer (poured correctly), not the best prices ($5 for a Guinness). The bartender left the place alone with a full bar while he stepped outside to smoke.

    Yeah, it's a neighborhood joint.

Standing room only on the Friday night that we stopped in.  We aren't much for standing in a crowded room to drink a beer, so we went outside, past the dartboard in use by the drunk guys that were also all playing with the "Brostache" app from the Geico commercial.  It's a nice little place that I'd like to come back to when it's not as crowded.

Tiny would be an understatement for this place.  If there's more than 15 people in there, prepare to stand.  That being said, probably my favorite pub during my visit in Savannah.  Super friendly bar service and off the beaten path so you really get a feel for the neighborhood.  I'm always a fan of the a-typical joints and this one fits that bill really well.  While there you will be greeted by super friendly bar staff and probably run into some true Savannah locals (Savannah Dan - just look for the big guy in the seersucker suit!) .  Awesome, low key place to kick back and down a few!

Super tiny and cool spot to pop in for a drink!  Reviewer saying this place is for skin-heads is OBVIOUSLY disgruntled former employee or uneducated redneck - but for sure a moron.  This bar is super cool and dark and cozy.  Awesome drink specials and sweet staff mean I will be back every time I am in town!  Love you cute pub!

Some friends and I went on a haunted pub crawl and O'Connell's happened to be the last stop, despite not being haunted (sorry!). Our tour guide, a Savannah local, simply dug the vibe and pointed us toward the unconventional drink special: the pickleback.

A shot of whisky chased with a shot of pickle brine.

Being that two of my major food groups are salt and vinegar (the other two being hot sauce and mustard), I was the first in line, and it certainly did not disappoint.  In fact, we went back the following night to get another one, but sadly the bar was out of brine--apparently the secret is out!

This is more or less your standard Irish pub: a little bit divey, albeit in a charming way.  They serve Strongbow cider, which is always a plus for me, and just had a nice chill time. Those of you looking for some place to rage probably won't find it here, but if you're wanting to play darts, have a pint, and chit-chat with the bartender, this is your place.

Some out-of-town friends asked to go have drinks someplace cool and "not a chain".  By chance I noticed that O'Connell's had reopened on Drayton Street after having dissapeared a few years ago.  The place was small, comfortable, and had some great Irish music playing of the juke - just my friends were looking for.  A steady line of friendly locals came and went while we visited - great place, I will be back now that I know it's here!

Nice little Irish pub in the heart of Savannah. On a busy Memorial Day weekend with tourists everywhere and the general craziness of the streets of Savannah, this was a great oasis of calm. Tasty drinks, great service from the bartender (Dan?), and a friendly group of patrons made for a wonderful experience.

    We loved it.

Awful service. They completely ignored my friend and me. It's small, cramped and unfriendly. Stay away.

Not Closed.  It exists at 108 West Congress Street in Savannah. We just did some drinking there!  In fact, you can't eat there- just drink.
If I hallucinated being at O'Connell's that night, I might have to re-think my lifestyle.

O'Connell's is small with nice touches with an authentic feel. I love subtle touches like the windows looking down into the bar area like the traditional public houses where lodging was offered.

This pub supports Irish music by hosting Irish sessions.  That is a big plus in my view.

We had great service and had a great time at O'Connell's.
