I have been to the restaurant twice and had one take out.  All OK.

but recent experience was terrible and will stay away from this place.

My friend and I had a Sashimi lunch delivery last week, the fish didnt look very fresh what i saw it, but i think i should be ok.  Later on, both of us had stomach discomfort and pain.  We then called the restaurant for this issue.  The woman who answered the phone just simply rude, and said all their fish arrived fresh that morning...   come on, all fishes arrived same day?

well, she showed her attitude and no sign of apologizes.  simply unacceptable.

    My reasoning behind 3 stars:

    Attitude:
RUDE RUDE RUDE. These people have absolutely no customer service skills what-so-ever. It amazes me how they treat their loyal customers with such disdain.

    Food:
Amazing. Excellent. Some of the best Sushi i have EVER had. It is the only reason I continue to order from this place.

If it would let me, I would rate it at 2 and a half stars. If you can deal with their horrendous customer service skills, then surely dine here.

Where do I begin. Soggy rice that tasted nothing like fried rice. Rock hard shrimps that looked good but tasted like rubber. Eggplant where oil was a main ingredient. And thank god the portions are small. Didn't feel too bad about throwing out the rest. Decent sour soup though. Never again.

We've ordered "in" from Oriental Diner for over a decade. They charge extra to deliver to our White Plains apartment, but it is worth it. My only complaint is that they changed their dumpling wrappers a year or two ago and they are heavier than the previous ones. Their sizzling rice soup is better at the restaurant than delivered but it is good delivered, too. We have not had a bad dish yet! It's all good.

I had a decent experience here. Others had suggested the diced chicken with peanuts and hot peppers which I found underwhelming. My companion had the crispy shrimp with some sort of candied walnuts, which was very good. The egg roll was average.

The egg drop soup was surprisingly tasty. Had an interesting corn twist which set it apart from the other egg drop soups ive had.

Decent place, will try again some day but for now it gets 2.5 stars

not sure why they established themselves as a diner. oriental diner is a restaurant. no seats at the bar. no servers who make fun of you and call you 'hun'. it's an asian restaurant.

they serve standard chinese takeout food, more bold dishes, and sushi. we got duck noodle soup and singaporean style noodle. the former was a bit of a gamble. duck is gross when not cooked right. but it was cooked right. the soup was flavorful. the singaporean noodle was tasty but has too much msg in it.

it's quite impressive given that we dropped by for a 'highway restaurant' on our way back to boston. our expectation wasn't so high. but oriental diner is decent.

    Looooooove their food!

    Prices: reasonable
    Service: good
    Food: Fergalicious!!!

No, seriously, the fact that these guys are located next to where I work is making me fat and broke!  The food is absolutely delicious and they deserve your patronage for giving a damn about what Chinese/Japanese should taste like.

I went here with a friend that works not too far away so merely out of convenience place is clean and the staff energetic and very welcoming no-frills classic Chinese but has a sushi bar haven't tried the sushi yet but always enjoy their tofu soup. When going in for a quick lunch I stay simple in what I order just because time restrictions limit us to being in and out however food comes out in timely fashion and is consistently tasty. I am sure that Oriental diner will be considered many more times in the future for lunch

I was driving down the road with my girl, fellow Yelper Laura P, when we had just gotten out of the movie theater across the street. We were whizzing by, headed for some sort of Asian food, when suddenly this place caught my eye and we did an action movie-esque car spin to head back in the other direction.

Their menu is a bit confusing because some things are categorized oddly. For example, "Chicken Teriyaki" is not listed under "Chicken".

On a whim I just asked if they had chicken teriyaki because I was craving it and they said yes. Shockingly it was $18! My girlfriend's dish was only $11 or something. I feel the prices were a bit jacked out of whack but it turns out the food was great anyways.

They have roadside pickup as an option but we obviously did this spontaneously so did not have that option. Instead we placed our order and sat outside in the grass until it was ready.

I love a place that displays some Yelp oriented thing. I uploaded a picture of the framed document they have on the wall which is a congrats from Yelp for pleasing the Hawthorne area with it's 3.5 overall rating. Very cool!

Overall this place seems top notch for an "oriental diner." I'd go again!

Yelper Ben Y. came here on a whim and a craving for Asian cuisine.

The service was great! Super friendly people. From what I saw, the place looked clean and there were a bunch of people there at the random 9PM time that it was.

I ordered sesame chicken with fried rice (dinner entree came with an egg roll and a choice of soup or soda) and Ben got the chicken teriyaki. The portions were large and unfinishable (made that word up) by one person. The food was really good too!

Definitely a great place to grab a delicious, quick Asian dish.

Fast service does not make up for just terrible food. We work in the area and everyone has stopped going here. Even my Chinese coworkers dislike the food here.

    excellent  service!
Lately i am ordering only sushi and i like their special rolls a lot.  So I am upgrading my review from 3 to 4 starts.  The res of the "normal" food is good but depends on your liking and preferences.
i would put 3.5 stars if i would have an option.

Be sure to ask for the "Spicy Mussel"...be warned, it take long time. LOL, anyone who has ordered this seriously delicious dish, knows what I mean.  Trust me, order it.

Also, a great dish is the tempura vegetables, not greasy, perfectly cooked and enough to share with the table.

A great find on a Sunday afternoon.

The service is actually 5 star!

Have been here many many times over the past 5 - 6 years and have never experienced 'bad' or slow service.  The people who work here are efficient, upbeat, and friendly.

I have limited experience with the menu, because when we come here we always order the same dishes - chicken with peanuts in hot pepper sauce and singapore mai fun.  These two dishes are always consistently tasty.  We've also taken food out and it is always ready when we arrive to pick it up.

I've had the sushi a few times - it's not bad.

The place is great if you are catching a movie across the street - you'll be finished with your meal in time, that's for sure. :)

Im here to upgrade my review for Oriental Diner!!! Finally, someone took the time to address my complaints and was professional, friendly, and accomodating. I picked up my soup that I always order and it was delicous. He said he saw my review and wanted to make sure that what I order is good and to let him know if anything is not  good, to let him know.very impressed!!

Excellent food, a large menu to choose from.  I've had a lot of the Japanese dishes and they are very good, a bit pricey, but tasty.  The Chinese selections are vast, with many "special" dishes.  The best egg drop soup I've had, little bits of corn make it a hearty soup.  Fast service, so if you tell them you are heading to the movie theater across the street, they will make sure your food arrives quickly.

The sushi is not fresh tasting.  I tried this place twice now , and although I did not feel sick, it is just not good quality or good tasting sushi.

First of all this place does NOT have the best quality Sushi around.  I have been to a bunch of spots that offer Sushi... Wild Fusion, You You, Emperors Choice, Minados, King Buffet and these do not include my NYC spots... This place was by far the worst.  The portion size of a dinner meal was a joke and it was pricey.  The restaurant is NOT well lit and makes the place itself look dirty.  The service is non existent, pushing you out the door before you are even done reading your fortune.  NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!  Very disappointing...

I am not a big fan of combined Chinese and Japanese restaurants. They usually get one much better than the other. This place is the rare exception. I've been there, maybe 100 times, and never had a second rate dish. And, in the last year, their Sashimi has grown to primo rating!

I must say...for a little diner, they give 5 star service.  When we first walked in, we were immediately greeted.  I mean immediately.  Sat down in less than a second and it was pretty crowded.  The waiter...I have to say, had absolutely perfect timing.  He somehow knew exactly when to arrive if I had a question, when to give me time and when I was ready to order.  The food came out in a manner that was so efficient that we only had time to drink our water before the next course was on our table.  The food was pretty decent as well.  I LOVED the size of our sushi.  Now, I know some people would think that they are miniature but that's how they looked when I was in Japan.  C'mon America...you know we all suffer from portion distortion.  A major plus...they offer movie times for the theater across the street.

I'm going back.  I just don't know when.

Came here after watching the movies from right across the street. I was hungry so I was excited to see that they had chips with sweet sauce on the table upon being seated. I know its a small detail but when you are hungry its great to have immediate satisfaction while looking at the menu!

Excellent place for a meal if you are in the area. We tried the steamed fish   and the orange chicken. Both were delicious and wonderfully cooked. The orange chicken was made slightly different that what I was use to, less orangy than other places and had a hint of the general orange flavor. The steamed fish was a large dish that was wonderfully presented.

I like that they also had sushi on the menu. So it is really a fusion of Chinese and Japanese food in one place. They have a good variety of sushi on their menu. This place has exceptional customer service. The staff is very friendly and was helpful in giving us recommendations from the menu. Wonderful place!!

have been ordering delivery to chap. for 14 years.  last couple of times have been lacking.  shrimp with snow pea pods became shrimp with frozen peas....UGH!!!   Hey,  they have no competition.  Consistently average Chinese.   Delivery IS speedy and comes in any type of weather-- rain, sleet,  or snow.

I will keep ordering from there until i find an alternative.  if you know of one..please HOLLER

I thought it was a part of joke when my friend told me that he wanted to take me an Oriental diner.  I said I wanted Asian food and he said to me: "Off to the oriental diner we go." I did not know there was an actual restaurant called the "Oriental Diner." When I saw the sign, that was when I found out.

This was a Taiwanese restaurant in the middle of the highway it seems and surrounded by trees. ^_^ From the outside the restaurant looked welcoming and when you enter, it's like a house. The decor wasn't like the typical Chinese or Asian restaurant where everything is red and golden dragons plastered on the walls. It was like a diner but only with a fish tank and lanterns. ^_^

For appetizers, they have the crispy noodles that were already on the table which I just could not get enough of. ^_^ For the meal, I ordered the Seafood Noodle soup. I decided to aim for the Chinese menu instead of the Japanese menu like I used to.

The wait time was relatively short. The noodle was alright. Mai fun was made the way I would have done it back home---just cooked and not too soft. The soup was really weak. They gave me a lot of seafood on my bowl though. I was actually surprised about that. It wasn't delicious---just savory enough to fill my stomach. It made me miss Chinatown for once.

I would come back here if I could get a ride back here but not my top choice for Asian food.

Asian friends are always worried when I offer to bring them to a place called "Oriental Diner". I suppose they are not expecting much, but the reactions I've gotten have been generally positive.

In what was clearly originally a standard diner, now stands a pan-Asian restaurant. They feature two separate menus: Chinese and Japanese. I've rarely had the Japanese food, so I cannot comment on it, but for Westchester, this place is not bad at all. Mind you, this is nothing like the food you get in Chinatown or Flushing, and that the tastes here are geared more for Western palates. The food is fresh, the servers attentive, and the decor understated.

I had the Kung Pao chicken (hot peppers and peanuts), hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. The egg roll, while a bit small, was very hot, quite fresh, and not greasy. The soup was a stronger, thicker broth than usual, very flavorful, and absolutely teeming with tofu, bamboo shreds. and (easily avoidable) mushrooms. It's been made like this for at least twelve years, and I'm not complaining at all... it's delicious.

The main dish was a little dry, and consisted solely of diced chicken, peanuts, and a few dried hot peppers. I am used to seeing a few vegetables in the dish, such as water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and perhaps some green or red peppers, but regrettably, these were missing. I also found the dish to be excessively salty.

My dining partner ordered a Cantonese soup with seafood and mai fun noodles. The sheer amount of seafood was staggering! The ingredients were very fresh, though this tasted a bit bland compared to similar dishes in Chinatown.

The servers kept our water glasses filled and the check was accompanied by a couple of fortune cookies and a few orange slices. The food isn't the most authentic, but given the location, it's still a pleasant experience.

I think the food is about a 3.5 but I'm putting down 4 stars for the extremely pleasant service. Price wasn't a bargain, the food was a touch too salty, but I would definitely go back.

There's a "Complete Meal" option on the menu to add 2 things to your order for $2 (like soup, salad, egg roll, chicken wings) which was nice.

Between two of us we ordered:
    - spinach wonton soup
    - hot and sour soup
    - two salads
    - 10 ingredients mai fun
    - boneless duck with ginger
    - soft shell crab in garlic sauce
    - brown rice
    - 2 Tsingtao beers
    - 1 pot of hot tea

Total: $60 including tax, without tip.

The wontons were soft and chewy, the broth was great, too. The "spinach" aspect of a spinach wonton soup was a joke, though. There was a tiny single leaf of spinach in it. Hot and sour soup was flavorful. I didn't see a lot of veggies in it, though. But for a $1 soup, who can complain?

The salads were sort of like what you get at sushi restaurants. A pile of baby mixed greens, a chunk of iceberg, what looked like shredded Asian pear and a squirt of carrot ginger dressing. Nothing to write home about, but hey, who really goes to a Chinese restaurant to order salad anyway?

The mai fun was good - maybe the noodles were a little overcooked/soft. It looked like it had roast pork, egg, scallions, onions, shrimp, water chestnuts, and some mixed vegetables. $10 for a plate of it for two, with enough left over to take home.

I originally ordered the lobster special with ginger and scallions but they were sold out. They suggested that I also order the soft shell crab, which seemed a little weird since we had already ordered it. But when I got my duck and he got his soft shell crab, I immediately wished that I had ordered it, too!

The soft shell crab was perfect - fried and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, covered in a sweet brown garlic sauce. There were maybe 3 whole crabs cut into quarters. My boneless duck seemed to be a more modest portion came in what looked like an identical sweet/savory brown sauce and was cooked with slices of pickled ginger (the pink kind you get with your sushi) which was a little odd. I guess they're really trying to go with the Chinese/Japanese thing. There were also red bell peppers, mushrooms (fresh, not canned, which I appreciate!), baby corn, snow peas, etc.

I probably would not order sushi here - maybe I've been spoiled by great sushi and traumatized by horrid sushi enough to know that some risks aren't worth taking.

Our waitress was really lovely and made good menu suggestions. She wasn't overly chatty or pushy, and was very friendly but not in a "fake" way.

For excellent Chinese food, I would suggest Taste of China in Tarrytown, but they don't have a lot of room to sit (it's more of a take-out place). For a cute place to sit, have reasonably priced, good Chinese food, I'll drive a little further and come here.

Do you need Americanized Chinese food in a diner-like setting? You want your orange beef with brown rice? Want a crazy invention of a sushi roll named after a Chinese actor? Then Oriental Diner is IT! I've been here multiple times, mostly for its convenient locale. They also offer road-side pick up (i.e. order food, drive over, honk the car, get food). They have a somewhat sad looking fish tank in their, with some healthy looking tropical fish, but lacking any decorations in it. With that said, they decorate for all holidays!

Food is fast and reliable. A little oily - but what is Americanized Chinese food without a little extra oil?!

Way overpriced for the dinner menu. They should eliminate their Thai menu because the dishes taste like Chinese noodles in sweet sauce. The place is simply a mix of different Asian cuisines of mediocre quality.

Love this place- The owner is great and the staff is always friendly!

The food is delicious- I love that I can have Japanese or Chinese in one place.  We mix and match- it's fun!

It's right around the corner from work so we go here at LEAST once a week. Haven't had a bad meal yet.... If you like sushi- ask what their special rolls are for the day. Always delicious!

My family and I have been going there for years. The only reason I'm reviewing it right now is caus' I'm craving their sesami chicken, garlic string beans and boston rolls. Their sushi is pretty good, the waiters and owners are really nice, and it's a chill atmosphere right across from the movies (and they even have the listings on a dry erase board). My family moved across town and I'm convinced part of it is that we're now 10 minutes closer to here! haha I miss it, but will be back again as soon as I'm home for break! The star subtraction is because their portions have been getting progressively smaller, and prices slightly larger.

Totally reliable, friendly service, good standard chinese place and conveniently across the street from the movie theater. Perfect for a quick bite before or after catching a movie.

Tacky? I would call it playful. I happen to love the neon lights and fish tank.

Don't opt for sashimi or spicy tuna rolls. Stay basic on the sushi.

    This was a staple.

Their sushi is relatively acceptable in quality. It is American sushi: cooked. Their Chinese food is also up to par of most Chinese American food places.

    The delivery is quick.

The decor on the outside is that of a diner and inside? Well, my favorite two times of the year to enjoy in restaurant dining at Oriental Diner is both Chinese New Year and Valentines day. It is clearly run by a Chinese family. The parents are not from this country and the mom loves the red decorations of both CNY and Vday. There are hearts hearts hearts and red red red.

Their younger kids deliver and pull up in a rice rocket. How could you not love that?

The outside and inner decor, is fully tacky diner.  The menu is Chinese and Japanese.  Except for an occasional Maki roll or dumpling, I wouldn't rely on Oriental Diner for their Japanese menu.

The Chinese menu is okay.  Standard fare for a Chinese restaurant, about average quality.  Their pork dumplings are nice and chewy.  The spare ribs are a little too sweet and sticky.  Their egg rolls have a nice crust, but a bit too much cabbage and too little meat on the inside.  Their main courses are fine.  I kind of like their pineapple chicken.

The best thing though, is they get extra marks for their delivery service.  I find their delivery to be very prompt.  Compared to most delivery chinese, the food is better than average.

So, if looking for good Chinese delivery  (and maybe throw in some Japanese) in the area, call in to Oriental Diner.  If you want a sit-down dinner, it's not a bad option, and it's convenient to the movie theater.

Great chinese spot. Food is good, and the service is quick.  The best part is the movie times are listed on the wall for the cinema across the street.  I also like the fact that they serve sushi, while I have never tried the sushi, it looks good

Love the O.D.!!!!!!!!!!! Not a place to get dressed up at all.... seriously looks like more of a Diner inside then a fancy Chinese or Japanese restaurant. Good thing is, they serve Chinese & Japanese cuisine and best of all you can order SUSHI! This is the perfect way to eat sushi with people that don't eat sushi! My boyfriend loves Chinese food and I love sushi so it works out perfectly when we go there. We often go with friends and you can share each dishes!

I will not eat Japanese food anywhere that it is not the center of attention.
So I am not going to review the Japanese food.

The 4 star Chinese food is way better than that cheap ass grimey stuff thats everywhere but its not exceptional.
The prices are right on for their prices.

They're egg rolls are some of the best I've had in a while.
