After hearing a lot of buzz about this place, I finally got to try it out tonight.  I was initially disappointed as they ran out of the catfish po boy, so I opted for the sausage po boy, which was AMAZING.  It had a balanced amount of fatty juice oozing out with each bite, and the soft french bread, cajun mayo/sauce concoction, and the coleslaw made it the perfect package.  5 stars for the po boys alone.

We dined in and ordered all the side dishes except for cornbread.  Overall, they were pretty good (especially for the price and being unlimited)  Here is the breakdown:

    MUST get:
-Creole:  I still loved it despite being a bit too spicy for my weak ass.
-Garlic stew:  Like the creole, it packs major heat.  I loved the cajun flavors!
-Coleslaw:  I'm not a fan of coleslaw, but Papa Roux's is the BEST I've ever had.  The veggies were so crisp and fresh, and I loved how it was more vinegar-based and very light on the mayo.

    Pretty good:
    -Etouffee: Personally, I like Yat's better - I just prefer it a chunkier/thicker texture.
-Red beans:  Slightly band, but it was alright still.
-Bread pudding:  It was delicious, but I wasn't overly impressed - however, I also am not crazy for this kind of dessert in general, so take it for what it's worth.

    Worth passing up:
-Applesauce: Disappointed as it tasted canned.  I thought it might've been homemade when I ordered it, but hey, you can't win them all.

I also think the place needs better lighting, and the decor has room for improvement.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy divey establishments, but Papa Roux had a slight grungy appearance, which I wasn't a fan of.  However, because the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced for what you get, it won't deter me from returning.  I hope I'll be able to try the catfish next time I'm there!

My most recent escaped took me to New Orleans where I had me and my stomach had a pending date for a catfish 'po boy.

    But....

    I was stood up.

    Indianpolis, Indiana.

Not really a city known to have a food soul, but after hearing some "chatter" about a hole in the wall that creates one of the best 'po boys out side of the Crescent City I decided it was time for me to check this place out.

Thanks to my Yelp app, I used the handy dandy map feature which took me right to the front door of another establishment.

oh oh...am I being stood up yet again?

Nope, just me not knowing my left from my right.

The place is simple and not at all fancy. (I like that)

Friendly 'po boy makers. (I like that)

Cramped seating. (I didn't like that)

The catfish 'po boy? Crispy on the outside and soft, french, warm and not at all "fishy". The roll I believe is house made, but even if it wasn't it was still incredible. The spread for sure is house made and if I were you, ask for a little on the side for dipping purposes.

NOLA comes to Indy. Check it out!
