We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night. Probably the dollar drafts?
The server/bartender was pretty attentive, despite having a full bar and multiple tables. We were never at a loss for beer, though we did start with plastic cups and have to wait to get glass mugs. She also made an awesome shot that my boyfriend loved just on flavor suggestion. I could tell she had a lot of regulars, and I might consider being one.
The pepper bites were delicious. Â The bf had a spicy chicken sandwich that he ate all of and really liked their ranch with it. I had the cowboy burger. Â It was huge! I liked it, but next time I will opt for different cheese; I liked the soft cheddar, just not the texture with a burger. Their fries are kind of like Steak n Shakes', thin and crispy.
Pros: drink specials, friendly  staff, portions
Neutral: pacing
Cons: volume
I had only been to Pepper's one other time (with Kelly actually) but  this weekend when my friends wanted to go to a normal bar with great people watching, loud music and a "patio that is both inside and outside" so I immediately thought of Pepper's.
Now I am a South Saint Louis Girl, and I mean this with love from the bottom of my heart, but South City Bars have the best people watching. Between the overly loud music, the Giant Wall of over 123 Shots, and the famous "Pay a $1 to hit a punching bag to see how strong you are game" for the men the people watching is superb!
Our bartenders were very friendly and quick - oh, and did I mention my bill was under $10 for the evening!!! They get an A+ in my book for drink prices :D
I personally enjoy their Patio, which only has the downfall of that all the smokers are right outside of it buffing away and sometimes with the wind it all comes right in your face.
Now I have never eaten here, but all those around us seemed to be enjoy the grub!
I would have to say my friends described what they wanted and I totally delivered! ;)
I would be amiss if I did not write a review for my regular haunt Pepper's Bar & Grill. Â From the moment you walk in this place any day of the week you can tell they must be doing something right. Â You always see the loyal regulars along with other happy faces enjoying the atmosphere. Â The bartenders know their clients and greet them by name and the others with a smile. Â The bartenders seem to truly enjoy their jobs, and they aren't going anywhere...you always know who is behind the bar. Â
It is a bar with great food! Â Nightly drink specials that are unbeatable. Â And the food!!! Â I can say I have never had a bad meal. Â The food is consistant, the home made chips are ALWAYS perfect. Â The Philly Cheese Steak and The Hammer are my favorite sandwiches. Â The pizza rocks, the burgers are ah-mazing.
They have two bars, typically the back bar is a younger crowd and the front bar older...Different music plays in each location. Â Lots of TV's to watch the games...PLUS...they play the sound so that you can hear the game!!! Â They just added on a covered outdoor patio complete with games, tables, and TV's for the smokers...Peppers has it all.
Paula is the manager, she truly cares about her customers and does everything she can to make sure everyone feels welcome. Â If you have an issue, it upsets her too and she will do what she can to make it better...and she usually does. Â
They are frequently involved in special events...such as pub crawls and chili cook off's. Â
Just a great bar! Â
Sometimes you want to go where every body knows your name, and they're always glad you came, you want to go where you can see the troubles are all the same, you want to go where every body knows  your name!
Great restaurant, the manager is wonderful! I hosted a party here for an Alumni group several months ago and everyone had nothing but nice things to say. The food was awesome and cheap! I go there all the time now- huge portions, cheap prices and ladies night on Wed with $10 all you can drink! They also have 2 bars (one in front, one in back) and a great outdoor patio! Fantastic South City Eats and Drinks!
Review Source:"What can I get you?"
"We'll take a Grey Goose and soda and a Golden Draft Light, please."
:::7 minutes elapse, nothing seems to be happening:::
Gentlemen on our behalf: "We'll take a Grey Goose and soda and a Golden Draft Light, please."
"Sure, coming right up."
:::another 7-9 minutes elapse as we witness a flurry of activity, none of which involves getting our drinks:::
"Um, what about that Grey Goose and soda and a Golden Draft Light, please?"
:::radio silence; eye contact is refused:::
Lights flick on.
Bar is closed.
One and done drink FAIL.
This is one of my favorite places to hang out when i'm kid free. It's usually the same crowd, which I like, never really any drama, drink specials, friendly staff, and good eats.
I go once a week, on the same night every week. A bucket of beer is 12 bucks and u get 6, so 2 dollars a beer and i'm happy. They have beer pong, which, let's face it, majority of us have once played, probably in college, and had fun doing it. I haven't played in at least 4 years and lemme tell u, i'm in the finals w/ my team mate every week. One day we will win the 30 dollar prize haha.
As for the food, the pizza and wings are phenomenal. Pizza is a little pricey, but def. worth it if you've got an appetite and a friend. The bartenders are always smiling, happy, and make u feel like u are valued. They've got a million tvs in the place, constantly going with all the sports updates for u sports freaks. (never anything for the ladies =( Â Â )
If you're looking for a chill place and u don't mind the smoke, Pepper's is the perfect place for a beer!
Pepper's Bar and Grill (not to be mistaken with Pepper's Lounge - Downtown) is another popular south-side bar, located on Gravois.
Pepper's was recently acquired by the Gianino's family restaurants (Joey B's, Frankie G's, Klipper's, etc.) and has expanded their menu and restaurant to two full bars with an expanded outdoor dining area. It is a bar that serves food, not the other way around, has dartboards in the rear and karaoke, but I have not been yet. It's definitely a hang out for locals.
It can be a bit loud, but it is popular, clean, and laid back. Â This is a jean-wearing, shot-drinking group of all ages (21-80).
Pepper's is a fun bar to go to, during the summer it's nice since they have 2 bar areas as well as a patio. The only thing i don't like is on weekends it's pretty crowded with not alot of room for the amount of people. Friday nights are fun with karaoke, i occassionally go up there depending on how many drinks i've had. It's still a good neighborhood bar.
Review Source:I went by here for lunch with a co-worker. It was just typical South City Bar food. Everything was covered and smothered with provel cheese (a true STL quirk) Not to mention, it was the middle of the day and the place was LOUD. I don't want to be too tough on the place though. If you are a city dweller you have your favorite haunt where people know your name and you overlook it's short comings. It was quite clear to me that Peppers is that place of rmany that were in there. I just prefer other places.
Being a drinker I am almost positive I would have enjoyed the place more come happy hour.
The entrance was also a little hard to find.
My friend and I went here for lunch, I was surprised at how many people were there.
We both got sandwiches and fries. Â I had a mushroom & swiss burger, I LOVED IT! Â The cheese was perfect, the mushrooms were perfect and the burger, perfect also.
Service was great, tons of food for a good price, I will keep taking my lunches here.
I have been going here for quite sometime now. It has changed owners quite a bit over the years. Regardless the beer is still cheap, their menu has been upgraded to the Joey B's menu, and you are close to a TV anywhere you are at in this bar. Great patio for when the weather is nice as well. This is your normal everyday, neighborhood bar. I can't stress it enough, but be sure to get the Pretzel Bites, they are awesome!!
Review Source:I love Pepper's! Â Always a very raucous, yet welcoming crowd consisting of neighborhood locals, off-duty cops and fervent fans of the grape, grain and barley.
Have not tried the new addition yet, but am looking forward to trying it soon.
The food is great and cheap and the pours are very tasty!
