Had dinner here on the night of the soft open. You never would have known! The service was great, the food was delicious and the atmosphere is relaing. Benn back for luch and dinner several times since and I get the same great results. The only thing that would be more helpful is a 'beer menu'. As it is now, the waitstaff carries handwritten papers that only give the name of the beer. I know they change the beer frequently; make up a speadsheet with the names and a quick description. It would be easy to edit and print on a daily basis
Review Source:I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Plan B is the best place in the Greater Springfield area for a burger. Â If you narrow that selection down to $10 hamburgers at places with full liquor licenses (there are a couple of good, ambiance-free options in Enfield, CT Â & West Springfield, MA that don't need naming here) then Plan B is the hand's down winner.
Now that they're at the Hall of Fame, it seems almost obvious - Â Duh, there should be a hamburger place really near the Basketball Hall of Fame. Â And, they have chili. Â Slam Dunk.
Overall, it was a good meal. The Big burgers were delicious. The deep-fried (unbreaded) salted rosemary string beans were an American homage to edamame (look it up) . The table service was capable, pleasant, and attentive - if not a little bland. Â We discussed, inconclusively, whether our server was named Chavez, Caitlin, or Britney - without conclusion - since we never did catch her name and she wasn't saying. Â Regardless, our server capably took our order and delivered a really enjoyable meal in a timely manner, Â without error.
Eat here. Go early. Â We went on a Tuesday and crowds were forming by 5:30. Â If you can do anything to enhance your appetite before going, you will enjoy the enormous, tasty, creative burgers even more. Â If not, help yourself to their extensive craft beer, bourbon, and cocktail menu and enjoy a meal that will not fail.
I don't eat beef so I can't speak personally to their hamburgers but my father who is the most finicky burger eater I've ever met thought this place was great. Â The portabello burger was the best I've ever had and I'm still dreaming about the peanut butter cup pie we ate. Â
Service was very friendly and personable, but a little slow at times. Â The line gets out the door by 5:30 or so on weekends so arrive early if you don't want to wait. Â
Overall a great addition to Springfield's dining scene!
My burger was decent. Big. Nothing special. The "fancy" fries are just generic fast food type fries. Pretty boring. My girlfriend got a salad with grilled chicken and the chicken was hard. It snapped like a Slim Jim.
Edit: I called to complain and they made me listen to Nickelback while I was on hold!! They refunded me without any problem though for the salad though.
We've had great experiences at both the Simsbury and West Hartford locations, but a recent visit to the Springfield restaurant on a recent Saturday night was only so-so. We were quoted a half an hour wait on arrival, so we headed to the bar and were lucky enough to find a couple of open seats. The bartender was quick to take our order, which I appreciated.
We only actually waited around ten minutes for a table, which was a nice surprise. Once seated, however, our waitress was a bit slow to materialize. They were quite busy though, and she did give us a courtesy "I'll be right with you" as she walked by, so I couldn't fault her too much. And the service did pick up after that.
We ordered the fried pickles and peppers starter, and loved it. The batter was light, and not at all greasy, and the vegetables all retained their flavor without becoming mushy or overcooked. Another bright spot during our visit was the french fries-- easily some of the best I've had. They're cut like fast food fries, but not soggy, starchy and over-salted.
My burger, on the other hand, was not so enjoyable. At Plan B, you're given the option of "some pink" or "no pink" when it comes to the internal temperature of your burger. I understand that they're dealing with high volume here, but if you're primarily a burger restaurant, I feel like allowing people the full spectrum of burger done-ness is kind of crucial. This is particularly true because despite only having two options, my burger was not cooked per my specification. Instead of "some pink," I received "all gray and pretty dry" which bummed me out. Like I said, when you only do one thing, it's critical that you do that one thing right.
Ate at Plan B this past weekend and my husband and I loved it! Â We went for a late lunch and did not wait long for a table at all. Â Our waitress was very attentive throughout the meal. Â For an appetizer we split the pickels and peppers and it was fantastic! Â Who knew fried pickles would be so delicious! Â I ordered the turkey burger and it was perfectly juicy with a thick slice of avocado. Â The fries were crispy and had the right touch of salt. Â My husband ordered the Baja burger and said that it was perfectly spicy! Â He also got the onion rings which he gave two thumbs up to. Â My favorite though -- the pickles! Â I know a lot of the reviews knock the pickles for tasting too much like cucumbers but to me they tasted straight out of a NY deli...delicious! Â We were too full for dessert but I can't wait to go back! Â I already know what I'll order next time: Â The 3 Shroom Burger with truffle fries.
Review Source:Went to Plan B Burgers in Springfield, MA last night in effort to show our support Dr. Westchesterson's third Western Massachusetts video shoot. Being very hungry, we were eager to eat. Waited 15 minutes for a seat. The waitress came and have us the "first-timers spheel". (Kinda gross they remind you their meat is humane.. The animal was slaughtered, not humane. Something, some people like myself, don't want that presented at the start of a meal. Just sayin')Promptly placed our order. Waited. Food arrived and was disappointed. The mini-beef wellington was far too chewy. Parmesan fries were cold. Drinks were very watered down and honestly after several drinks, I questioned the waitress having brought us non-alcoholic drinks for the price of spirited drinks. Overall, skip Plan B and go for Plan C.
Review Source:Overpriced and underwhelmed. Â The Parmesan french fries were nothing more than kraft Parmesan cheese sprinkled over fries. Â They cost two dollars extra. Â Really? Â We had a variety of burgers. Â My friend reported that the chicken burger was dry. Â The two beef burgers were juicy and well flavored. Â A diverse selection of choices on the menu.
Review Source:The idea of Plan B gets me way more excited than the experience itself.
The menu has a ton of great-sounding options, some of which are great, some not so much. Â Once I had the lobster sliders (mini lobster rolls) which were great, another time I got the mushroom-swiss burger "in the grass" and my burger was pretty tasty but I've been disappointed with the fries. Â They have a variety of fry options - I got the truffle fries but detected no truffle in them. Â They were just more expensive. Â
One thing that confuses me is their obsession with potato chips. If you get nachos, the nacho toppings come on potato chips. Â I didn't really enjoy them. Â
Service is uneven. Â At the beginning of my last visit, our waitress offered suggestions of which fries to get with which meal, but then she mostly disappeared. Â A tablemate had to ask repeatedly for mayonnaise and more water, and when the water was refilled, she didn't refill anyone else's. Â
I think Plan B is not bad, not great.
We really liked this. Â We started with the Blue Chips appetizer - very tasty bleu cheese sauce on the signature fresh potato chips. Â It was tasty and appropriately spicy, but I still prefer nachos.
Son #2 was celebrating his birthday and got the special - a "breakfast style" burger, which comes with a fried egg on a french toast bun. Â He liked the burger, but wasn't wild about the french toast "bun". Â He had parmesan fries as a side - but couldn't really detect a parmesan flavor. The wife got the burger flight with onion rings and really liked it. Â It was more than she wanted to eat so we took the chicken burger home.
I had a Baja Burger, which the waitress warned was very spicy (she even asked if I wanted the chipotle spread on the side!). Â It was good, but so tall that it was difficult to keep everything on the bun when eating. Â It *was* nicely spicy, but not as bad I inferred from the waitress.
The beer list was good - I washed the Baja down with an Old Rasputin stout.
To top it off, we were able to watch Syracuse take down Cincinnati on the big screen!
YUM! Â Private parking lot with easy in/out, lovely and comfortable interior, great menu, and a lot of value for the money.
We started with the blue chips and for me, they were the highlight of the meal. Â Extra thick cut, thoroughly non-greasy potato chips covered in blue cheese, bacon, red onion, and slices of fresh jalapeno (awesome)...kind of an interesting twist on a nacho, and we were pleasantly surprised to find loads of cheese and goodies between every layer rather than just heaped over the top.
I got the 3 shroom burger and boyfriend got the philly steak, both on pretzel rolls, mine with mixed greens his with the standard fries. Â Oh, heads up that all of the sandwiches listed down the middle of the menu are HAMBURGERS...so, for instance, the salmon burger, portabella burger, and boyfriend's philly steak all contain a beef burger TOPPED with salmon, portabella mushroom cap, shaved steak, etc., respectively. Â Hard to imagine Atlantic salmon as a burger topping, but there you have it!
We both ordered "pink," but mine was far more done than boyfriend's and I would probably classify it as medium-well; next time I think I will say extra pink, or very pink, or similar...because topping selection aside, boyfriend's actual burger, which was lovely bright pink, tasted much better and juicier than mine. Â Pretzel rolls were great and not so "pretzel-y" as to render them a mismatch to various burger toppings, and they held up well, so I think I will opt for one on my future burgers regardless of which topping assortment I choose.
We split the banana roll dessert which really pushed us over the edge of fullness, despite doggy-bagging our burgers. Â The servings here are so large, I think a party of four could easily split a single app and a single dessert. Â If we go again with just the two of us, I think we'll probably split one app, one dessert and one burger. Â I'm laughing at myself for typing "if"...because there's not really any question about it...we'll be going back, a lot.
This is without a doubt my favorite hamburger restaurant. We occasionally traveled to West Hartford, CT for a Plan B burger but now with one in Springfield we are frequent patrons of Plan B.
The ambience is a little funky with meat hooks as light fixtures and the restaurant acoustics are a little loud. In the evenings, especially the weekend nights, be prepared to wait for a table. Â For a burger, it is a little pricey, but well worth it.
I am a huge fan of the Veggie burger. I am not a vegetarian but this is as good as any burger. When I am in the mood for a "real" burger the shroom burger is wonderful. My family always orders a variety of the fries for the table. The Parmesan fries are great. The green fries (literally fried green beans) are a family favorite.
The beer menu is extensive. We always order the micro brews from the on tap menu.
The service is always friendly although during the busiest hours I have found a need to ask twice for water or some secondary thing.
All in all, I am a big Plan B Burger fan!
I have been here twice. I got the veggie burger once and the lobster roll once. (I do not eat beef). Both were very good and a good size for the money. The decor is pretty cool and the restaurant itself has really high celings so feels open and is not too noisy. Lots of good beer and burbon. The people I have eaten with who have had the beef burgers say they are amazing. Also it seems kid friendly, but I am not totally sure what that means since I do not have kids. Go forth and eat burgers.
Review Source:What a difference 6 weeks make. decided to re-try Plan B after a very disappointing dinner. I am convinced the server at a restaurant can make a HUGE difference. Tonight we had Meghan....she was extremely friendly(said SURE! to every request--really seemed to care!). my blue cheese burger was served very warm....the pretzel roll was delicious....had a small side wedge salad that was full of delicious blue cheese!! Wife had her usual salmon burger and was very impressed. the french fries were served crispy and done perfectly. we had an early dinner....and were treated very well. Plan B had their Grade A team at work and it showed.
Review Source:All five people in our party were disappointed with the burgers. Â Tasteless and They actually fell apart as you took a bite. Â It was like eating a sloppy joe.....had to use my fork to eat what fell on my plate! Â Also the service was horrible...slow slow slow. Â Will not be going back.
Review Source:This is the GREATEST burger joint you will ever try. It makes me want to give my other reviews less stars because I simply was unaware that burgers can be up to par with 5-star quality dinners.
APPETIZER: the jalapeno poppers are phenomenal, absolutely no words can describe the robust flavors
DINNER: I had the Blue Cheese Burger with BBQ Bourbon sauce on a pretzel bun, and my BF had the Bacon Cheeseburger with Carmelized Onions and Garlic Mayo on a pretzel bun as well. AMAZING. So juicy and flavorful it falls apart as you eat.
Lately I have had an allergic type reaction to red meat so i was weary but after the first bite I inhaled the burger just so i could finish eating every bite before risking my allergy flareup LOL now THAT is a good burger.
I never thought that this day would come so soon in my 25 years of life but it did. This was the best burger i have had to this day. I will attempt to recreate this experience for all:
Atmosphere: Large, tons of space, great decor and nice looking bar
Service: great service, friendly and knowledgeable
Food:
They have ever burger under the sun, lobster, beef, turkey, salmon
I got the Bacon Cheese Burger on pretzel bread
and
jalapeno poppers
with truffle fries
DO your self a favor and the burger on a pretzel roll, the best thing I ever had, it was soft and moist and perfectly held the juicy burger in its place. the burger was cooked to perfect, with a some pink and all the juices locked in
My GF got the
blue cheeseburger on pretzel bread, same reaction
For desert we got the
banana roll cake which was great as well
They also have tons of bourbons to choose from, though I am more of a scotch guy and great beers
I was in Springfield for a meeting and my two clients took me to Plan B for lunch. Â It is next to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Â Â They have every type of burger on the menu. Â Chicken, Turkey, Salmon, Half pork Half beef.... Â The Blue Cheese burger looked good on the menu but the waitress suggested the Bacon cheese burger. Â I ordered it NOT PINK, which is like medium. Â All the beef burgers come some pink or Not pink. Â Some burgers like chicken do not come as pink...EWE.
First of all the presentation is great. Â Get the Pretzel Bun, good recommendation. Â The burger came on a rectangle plate on the right, whole pickle in the middle and a tin of, what they call Fancy Fries on the left. Â 5 Guys fries they are not, but I would give them a 8 out of ten. Â All in all in was a very nice experience. Â The place is new so the decor is fresh and clean.
I hope to be back in Springfield and try another burger.
I have been to the other 3 Plan B's in CT and visiting el numero quattro completes my Plan B quadfecta.
Located in the Basketball Hall of Fame complex, this restaurant was doing a brisk business when we got there at 9pm on a Thursday night.
As my friend mentioned while looking over the menu: "I'm so glad that this place allows you to eat gluten and wheat-free. It's so hard to find that at restaurants nowadays."
And I had to agree. I ordered the giant Cobb Salad with chicken that was delicious. My friend got the salmon daily special and substituted steamed veggies and a side salad instead of pasta. She said it was very good.
So, ordering and asking for customization was very easy.
The prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of food.
It looked like every bottle on the wine list is available by the glass. That means you can get a taste of anything before committing to a bottle.
The beer list looked pretty extensive, too.
Our server was really nice. She checked in with us regularly.
-1 star because I kept having to ask for my water glass to be refilled. Our server did refill it once on her own.
The space is nice. We were able to sit in a booth in the bar area relaxing while they had a pretty good live band there. At no point were we made to feel rushed through dinner or afterwards. We chatted for an hour or so after we were done with dinner. We then sat at the bar where a small, jovial group of patrons were. The bar service was also friendly.
Overall, this is a nice place. I'd go back without hesitation.
An outstanding place that will surprise you in the number of unique ways to serve a burger. Â It is the quality of the food here that stands out....and that includes appetizers and desserts. Â Our server Rebecca was always attentive and came through with some good recommendations....especially with the extensive beer menu. Â Looking forward to returning soon!..
Review Source:I am so excited that this area now has another great burger place to go to, in addition to the opening of Max Burger in Longmeadow. Â I have loved the Plan B locations in CT for a very long time and have hoped that one would open up closer to me. Â I am such of a huge fan of the chain that I have never had a less than 5 star experience at any of their locations until now. Â I'm not sure if it's the fact that they only opened a few weeks ago and are still working out the kinks but the food was just good in comparison to the outstanding meals I have had at the other locations. I would give this locations a 3.5 stars but am rounding up optimistically. Â
We ordered our usual- a Squealer and a West Coast burger and although they did come out pretty quickly, the buns were burned and it also seemed that the meat was over cooked as well. Â We also got the American Nachos which were actually great. Â We come here for the burgers though so I'm hoping that someone might be doing some quality control to make sure this location is upholding the standards of the others. Â I will definitely try the place again in a few months.
Having visited the other Plan B locations I hoped for the very best from the Springfield location. Partly because they have impressed me in the past, but mostly because I live a mile away and feel starved for good food close to home.
SPACE
great job, they had a cavernous area and usually the plan B's are cozy so I wondered what they would do. Personally. I like the mix of Rustic/Glam. Not quite cozy, but cool enough for burgers and beer.
FOOD-
We have had the blue chips, natchos. Both great, love the fresh fried potato chips on both. Malinda has had the fried pickles and says the hold their own against those from another local favorite of ours.
As for burgers the Shroom Burger rates as a top choice, including all selections from Max Burger. I like their basic Burger, it highlights the quality of the ground beef they use.
If your in the mood for very rich comfort food get the lobsters Mac and cheese, Its awesome and big enough to split 4 ways as a side dish.
EAT HERE!
Tonight we ate at Plan B burger in Springfield, MA. Â We had fantastic service but besides that our dining experience was below the Plan B standard that we've experienced. Â We've eaten at Plan B in Simsbury and Glastonbury multiple times and have been blown away by the exceptional service, wonderful flavor of menu items and large variety of beer on tap. Â The flavorful burgers, great atmosphere and friendly service draw us back every time we are in their area!! Â So, needless to say, we've been anxiously waiting for Plan B to open up in Springfield - right in our back yard!
Unfortunately, Springfield's Plan B Â burger didn't live up to its' sibling restaurants. Our burgers first arrived over cooked, dry and crumbling out of the bun. Â Our server promptly addressed the issue and had our burgers made again. Â The second time around they came out cooked much better. Â To our surprise, the burgers lacked flavor. Â They were tasteless grilled beef on a bun with toppings. Â If we hadn't eaten at other Plan B Burger Restaurants, perhaps this wouldn't have stood out as much, but having a very good idea of the type of food this restaurant produces we were extremely disappointed. Â Â
Our service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful but the poor quality of food won't have us quickly returning. Â We are hoping that after they've been opened for a little while they will be able to work out the food quality problems because we'd love to give them another try. Â However, we need some time to distance ourselves from the meal we were served before we return to give them a second chance.
We dined at about 4:30 when the place was pretty much empty. Â Very nicely appointed decor, and very friendly and helpful staff. Â Can't really brag too much about the food though. Â I expected to be "wowed" with specialties and unusual flavors, but instead was surprised by how bland everything tasted to me. Â The parmesean fries and the sweet potato fries were okay but definately not more than that. Â The burgers were large, but largely tasteless. Â Even the whole pickles tasted more like plain cucumbers than pickles. Â Desert proved to be similar....expecting a wow and got an "oh that's nice" instead. Â None of the food stood out. Â Pretty pricey for a meal that is lacking in flavor. Â Don't think I will be going back any time soon.
Review Source:I was so excited to see that they opened a Plan B in Springfield!! Â
Beer selection is pretty amazing - lots of beers that you don't normally see on tap. Â They also have a good selection of beers for two people that is impressive as well.
Even though it was opening weekend for this location, you would have thought they had been open for months. Â No issues with any of the service, food, etc. Â
When we got there at 8:30 or so, we were told that the wait would be about a half hour to forty minutes, but were surprised when it turned out to only be about 20. Â Our waitress was pleasant and funny. Â
Portions are good, food is AWESOME and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Â We had the porto burger (portobello mushroom with smoked gouda) and the bacon cheeseburger. Â Both were cooked perfectly and amazingly delicious. Â
Totally coming back here and bringing all my friends. Â The prices are right, the people are nice and the food is AMAZING.
