I have been here many times through the years and can't believe that I have not written a review. This is by far the best and most authentic German food you will find in Nassau County. I was in Munich last month and the first weekend I was back home I came here and it did not disappoint. Whether you are eating at the bar or in the dining room you are sure to be served a good meal by a very courteous staff. All the dishes are excellent and if you are dying for an authentic German pretzel this is the place. They actually import them from Germany. Only thing I missed on the menu after being in Munich was bread dumplings. Prost!
Review Source:I really love this place. Â I tried the new menu, fried pickles are amazing as well as the mac and cheese bites. Â They also have a beer brewed just for them which i thought was really cool and it was really good as well. Â I cant wait for the new building Biergarten to open in the back, beer, music, great food and great staff. Â I really like the bartender Sean, friendly and super cute, ill come back just for him.
Review Source:I have been here many times and will always come back!
What can I say beer is the way to my heart!! Â Perfect during the summer nights to sit on the back patio.
I will add that I planned my company holiday party here. Â What a fantastic event and what a great help Debbie was. Â They were accommodating and so helpful! Food was great!! I cant wait to do more business with them.
Bartender is phenominal!
Bratwurst, potato pancakes AND apple strudel??? I'll go anywhere for a great piece of apple strudel, me and my friends had to try this place!
I'll say it was an overall success since we tried they're pre-fix anniversary menu. I highly recommend going there and ordering from the pre-fix since it'll only 19.95 a person and you receive a starter, entree and dessert! yum!
To start, my group ordered salmon canapés and a couple of my friends ordered the stuffed mushrooms. I love salmon so I really liked the canapés while the mushrooms looked very small and my friends didn't seem to be that excited about them.
- For my entree I opted for the Wurst platter which comes with one knack wurst, one bratwurst and one wires wurst. This all comes with sauerkraut and your choice of mashed potatoes or potato pancakes.
I went for the potato pancakes and applesauce and I didn't regret it!
The only thing I was really disappointed with was the weiswurst, it literally had no flavor. There are many other German restaurants who serve better wursts. The bratwurst they serve is very good in comparison but I've also had better.
Now for what I was most excited for: dessert!!
- we tried both their apple strudel and the Sacher torte. For those who don't know what Sacher torte is, you are missing out! It is a very dense chocolate cake layered with raspberry jam. Both desserts were delicious and really completed the experience for us on a high note.
Throughout our meal we also had a lovely server, she was very sweet and joked around with us all night since we were the only diners there that late. We stayed until a bit past 9pm and they kindly let just continue chatting without any interruptions.
- they also have a buffet dinner on Thursday nights which I think should be interesting!
We dined at the restaurant after attending the holiday market held on the grounds. The whole complex is HUGE, with a large main building, numerous out buildings in the back, and sports fields.
The restaurant is a meat-fest, as you would imagine it would be. The food was filling and welcome in the cold weather. Roasted meats, potatoes, noodles, and cabbage in many formats and varieties. The don't miss: the hulk-sized pretzel and one of the many, many beers all served in their own branded glass.
Also, take a gander at the trophies from East Germany in the bar. The bartender is probably ex-Stazi.
Opahfest Today! What a great experience. German bands, German food, German beer, doesn't get any better!
I love this place. I always have a great time here. I'm not just saying that because of the beer. This is THE absolute place to come after the Steuben Day Parade, all of the bands from Germany perform here. The atmosphere is amazing.
The beer is great and the crowd is friendly. I highly recommend coming down any time the beer garden is open. Bring your friends, it's even better.
Definitely two thumbs up from me.
The place is not bad. The outside garden is somewhat cool. I didn't notice if there was more of a beer selection than the 4 I saw which were the selections on 2 sides of the bar - combined. The food was OK, Â the bratwurst sauerkraut tasted like sour butt for some reason. Â The mozzarella sticks were awesome though. Most importantly, the bartender, an older man, was as bitter as raw coffee beans. I couldn't help wrinkling my face in confusion at his misery every time I was forced to interact with him, since he was the only bartender there. The rest of the staff seemed very nice and organized.
Review Source:I definitely don't see the allure of this place. We walked into the bar expecting a traditional German-style pub. It was dull, lifeless, no one bothered to greet us for a good 5 minutes of standing around. Only the bartender stared at us awkwardly, gnawing disgustingly on a giant wad of chewing gum. No one said anything. We turned right around and walked straight out.
Review Source:Came here on a Friday night in early June. Â It was our first time and we had not read too many reviews so we were kind of unsure about the dining area or biergarten. Â So we heard music playing and made our way to the biergarten. Â The had a live band playing and covering mostly 70s-80s songs and some newer ones. Â The have waitres service back there, so sit down at one of the picnic tables and one will come over to you. Â The food selection in the biergarten is limited (while be back to sample the dining room) but still very good. Â I had a leberkase sandwich on a pretzel bun and it was awesome. Â Only wished they had some more German options back there. Â The beer was great and they also had a few Jaegarmeister girls handing out free shots.
We'll be back again to hang out in the back but too also try out the resaturant. Â Great vibe, good band, surprisingly kid friendly (just cover their eyes when the shot girls walk around) and they also had a tv outside.
I came here for a beer tasting and also for dinner, so I'm well rounded with Platt. Â The beer tasting experience was amazing, so much beer to try, and the food was phenomenal. Â Dinner at their restaurant started off slow, when they gave us the pricey menu (at least $20) instead of the bar menu (more reasonable price for German food). Â The food was good, for an appetizer, we had the homemade goulash which was satisfying. Â I opted for the German platter to share which included bratwurst, knockwurst and potato pancakes. Â A member of the party thought the burger was ordinary, but the beer was far from it. Â Drinking authentic German Beers were the highlight of the night. Â I even wonder why they sell domestic beers here. Â I would advise going during the summer so you can appreciate the outside, but during the winter, they have a large bar inside. Â Also, you have to order the pretzel
Review Source:This is a great Long Island restaurant. The food is delish and the service is great. You would almost think you were in NYC!!
We had the bavarian pretzel as an appetizer. It comes with beer cheese (delish), sweet mustard (amazing) and a brown mustard (a little spicy for me, but the hubby loved it). The one pretzel was enough for me, the hubby and my two girls - which is a lot, because my 15 month old eats more than most truck drivers!
I had the schnitzel with ham and cheese. It came with red cabbage and spaetzel. It was great - especially when I put some of the honey mustard that came with my daughter's chicken fingers. The hubby had the schnitzel with capers, anchovies and egg (sunny side up). Was super delicious. His also came with red cabbage and spaetzel. My other daughter had a burger which looked really good.
For dessert, the girls had vanilla ice cream and the hubby and I shared the german apple donuts with caramel sauce. Oh. my. Â God. They were just amazing! The dough was firm and chewy and the apples had a delicious hint of tartness.
The service was great. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. The hostess was also very nice and accommodating. The bathrooms were very clean with a very nice infant's changing table. We will definitely come back.
Blah, boring & bland. It didn't even appeal to a kid's palate. Additionally, http://Restaurant.com certificates are only good for sections of the menu, apparently. My sister had one, and it shall probably go to waste now, as this restaurant's not really worth a second chance.
Review Source:Three of us went to this restaurant because I had purchased a gift certificate from http://restaurant.com, which is still advertised on your site. There was a Christmas market in the back and after we visited that we went to the restaurant. The service was fine, and the food good, but when I presented the gift certificate the waitress said that they no longer accepted them even though I had only purchased it two weeks earlier. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he would say the same thing. So manager Matthew Buck come running over, said we don't accept them, didn't care what we wanted to say, and ran off again. His attitude was the most troubling thing about it all. He didn't care what had happened and his whole demeanor was extremely off-putting. How foolish for a restaurant to have someone with no class as general manager! While we had been discussing coming back with our husbands, that will not happen now. My brother and sister-in-law had eaten at Koenig's and had been looking for a new place - this could have been it, but obviously, they have enough customers and need no more.
Food - my cod fish was salty, the potato dumplings bland, and the red cabbage too sweet. Pretzel appetizer was good but salty. The sauces were all nice.
Too bad...
Having been to Germany several times and dining across Deutschland, I feel like I am somewhat of an expert on German food. I can say I enjoyed the food here as much as Zum Stammtisch in Glendale or my far away Bavarian hangouts.
The server was great, the veal amazing and the potatoe pancakes leftovers came home with me because I had to try the awesome apple pie dessert.
Oh, and of course, the Oktoberfest beir was pretty darn good, too.
Nuff said, just check it out for yourself. Â I will give it 5 stars after my 3rd test meal, consistency is critical in any kitchen.
Holy potato pancakes, people. Went last Saturday and came back 10 pounds heavier. Steak tartare needs a upgraded presentation because it looked like frozen pizza but tasted like YUM. The giant Bavarian pretzel was unnecessary after providing us with a bread basket, but tasty nonetheless.
My boyfriend ordered the Rouladen and was tremendously happy that it stacked up well in comparison to his grandmother's recipe... beef was tender and the grilled asparagus was crunchy, but we were a little disappointed to see only one puny little gherkin stuffed inside, alongside carrots and other root veggies, rather than the large sour pickle spear we're used to (big dill pickle joke ::here::). I ordered the Champignon Rahmschnitzel and was in Heaven... two huge veal cutlets breaded and fried, not drowning but nicely sauced with mushrooms and cream. Tender, tasty, so delicious. Potato pancakes on the side were perfectly moist on the inside, crispy on the outside.
Dessert was two slices of chocolate raspberry cake (dense and fudgy and delish) with German brandy coffee (asbach rudesheim).
A few side-notes: the place was DEAD and while our server was extremely well mannered and knowledgeable about the menu, she was hard to locate for everything from a glass of water to the bill. I know she was probably bored out of her mind and off trying to find something to keep busy, but dinner ended up taking almost an hour longer because of her absence. Also, the bar looks, smells, and apparently attracts the clientele of a VFW hall. Just sayin'...
Last night I was craving German food, so when my father asked if I wanted to go out and get something to eat, I jumped at the opportunity to check this place out!
I was disapponted to find out they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so I haven't actually tried this place out!!
I just wanted to let people know, DON'T COME ON MONDAYS OR TUESDAYS!!!
I am definitely going to go back another day to sample some of the delicious menu, and when I do I'll write a more accurate review!
Food is good, but I go more for the parties they have in the beer garden. Â Personally I think that the potato pancakes are so greasy that you had better be within jumping distance to a bathroom...but thats just my opinion and I don't eat em anyway so who am I to talk!!! Â I just watch the grease literally drip off the fork...
Anyway, the bratwurst is definitely good, pretzels and traditional German sandwiches and cold cuts are always good, and restaurant is also decent. Â I wouldn't be overly excited about eating here, but if you had to go or were invited for dinner you won't be disappointed, and if your there for a beerfest, you can send me a thank you note after you go! Â
P.S. Â if you do go for a beerfest, get there early or you will never get a table.
My father has been coming here for a long time. I've recently been incorporated into the group of guys, here, and so I stop by every now and again.
First off, the bar atmosphere is better than most I've ever been to, and I hate bars. I normally would never go to a bar unless I'm meeting a friend or I'm watching a musician that I know. I've never enjoyed the atmosphere. The usuals here are really nice, though. I've sort of taken to them. The staff is very nice, too.
Second, the food is actually really good. They have a full restaurant dining hall, and the food is just delicious. Lots of genuine German dishes, and even their snack foods at the bar are great! Friday night is wing night, for $0.15 per wing. Get them medium with hot sauce on the side and they come really crispy and blistering hot (temperature-wise). Another great "snack" food they serve is the German pretzel. It's HUGE. About 8" across, 6" tall, and over an inch thick, this thing is hardly a "snack." And it's way better than any pretzel you'll get off the street carts in Manhattan. It comes with three different dipping sauces, one of them is a sort of cheese sauce (I've only had a taste, since I'm allergic to cow's milk.), one is a savorable dark honey mustard, and the other is a delightfully mouth-kicking horseradish mustard.
All-in-all, the place is just great. They have a wonderful selection of food and drink, and the atmosphere is pretty nice, no matter what time you go. Hope to see you down at the Platt!!
I've been coming here my whole life and I must say the food is the best its ever been! The hot pretzel app is amazing and the entrees real good, except the potato balls, they are way too gummy! The desert was excellent, esp the donuts. Beer of course is top notch German and will knock your socks off. The beer garden out back is open with drink specials in Fridays when the weather is nice, hopefully they will be serving those pretzels. Servers were very nice but need to be more attentive to drinks and water.
Review Source:Excellent German food. The schnitzels were hanging of the plate. I had the roast pork shank. The skin was crackling crisp on the outside and the meat was fall of the bone inside. it was great. Everyone loved their side dishes. Spatzel, red cabbage, kraut, dumplings, and potato pancakes were great. We happen to go when there was a German festival going on in the Large hall. Ompah bands were playing and everyone was in traditional German garb. The event made us park 3 blocks away. They have a nice large bar to have a drink prior to dinner. They have at least 15 good quality German Beers on tap. The specialty coffees and Black Forest cake for desert were very good.
Review Source:I'm not a huge German food fan, so I'm grading on a bit of a curve here, but it's solid offering. Â The waiters are friend, the environment nice and the food is straight ahead German with no chaser. Â Plus during the nicer months, they have a beer garden out back. Â It's simple and to the point.
Review Source:The outdoor biergarten is the highlight of Plattduetsche! Â
We went here last year for their Oktoberfest celebration with friends. Â To say we had a great time is an understatement! Â The food, the games, vendors and endless rounds of beer made leisurely spending the day at Plattduetsche a memorable experience. Â
I hope to return this fall!
So, I've been to this place a few times and each time it is fantastic.
I was able to go yesterday which made my tastebuds very happy. Â The biergarten was not open, but the restaurant was. Â We sat at the bar watching the Mets game and started off with some beer. Â Hofbrau lager for me. Â I cannot get enough of that stuff. Â Any place that carries it automatically earns a return trip.
We started with the Bavarian pretzel with awesome mustard and a cheese/bacon sauce. Â That was followed by the potato pancakes and apple sauce. Â The apps were so delicious that I needed at least a half hour before I could think about dinner.
For dinner I had the Westfalen Schnitzel. Â Veal with ham and swiss. Â So yummy! Â It came with a wonderful spetzel and the best red cabbage I've ever had. Â Mom, I ate all my cabbage! Â We finished off dinner with a shot of apple schnapps. Â I cannot wait to go back.
The Plattdeutsche, or "The Platt" as we used to call it, is a great place to go. In the spring and summer they have beer garden's and live music outside in the back. It is also a catering hall with plenty of party rooms downstairs, and there is a large bar in the upstairs corner. I'll discuss the latter in detail in this review.
The bar is quite large, has a good amount of TVs scattered around the room that you can usually catch a few good games on at a time. The last time I was there was during the olympics, so we caught USA vs. Finland Ice Hockey. Great selection of German beer on tap. If you are a fan of Warsteiner or Leinenkugals most certainly grab a pint.
The only qualm I do have is that there is sometimes only one or two guys behind the bar, so you might need to get their attention if you want a refill every now and then, but they are usually really good about it, and I'm not about to take a star away for just that fact.
The prices are good, the crowd is not a bunch of crappy 20-somethings just looking to get trashed thurs-sat night like you find in most places in the area, which is definitely a huge plus.
In addition to Plattduetsche being a restaurant there is also a beer garden in the back. My review will be for the latter.
Apparently this beer garden has existed for quite sometime, and I've must've driven by this place over a hundred times and never noticed it. From Hempstead Turnpike, it appears as a restaurant in a church-like building, but in the back, there is a very large beer garden. One of my friends was having an engagement party here so I was pretty excited to check out this place. German beer + wursts = good times!!
Parking is a little difficult in this neighborhood as a lot of the side streets do not allow you to park until midnight. Renken Boulevard, just before Plattdeutsche has available parking on the west side of the street. You may notice a small driveway that leads to a parking lot, just past the beer garden and before the soccer field, but avoid parking here as the gates were closed when we left around 11:30pm. I believe the driveway is a back entrance to one of the parking lots for the German retirement home, right next to Plattdeutsche.
We finally walked into the beer garden and the place was humungous, with rows among rows of picnic tables. At the first section of picnic tables (about 20-30 rows), there was a live band playing classic rock music on a stage. Just across from it, is a building that has an indoor square-shaped full bar with about 20 tables surrounding it. Walk a little further down, and there is a shack that serves the food, ranging from bratwursts ($5), frankfurters ($3), cheeseburgers ($5), buffalo wings ($7), french fries ($3), bavarian pretzels ($3), german potato salad ($2), landjaeger on rye bread ($4), grilled chicken caesar salad ($7), leberkase on rye bread ($5), chicken fingers ($5), and ice cream ($3). Just beyond the shack was a tent with another 20-30 rows of picnic tables, but the area was closed off as it was not too crowded.
For the engagement party, we received bracelets ($40/each) that allowed us all you can eat and drink (all hard alcohol and beer included). Most of the beer was served in large 1/2 liter mugs ($6.50), but I saw some people drinking from humongous 1 liter mugs. All beer is mostly German ranging from Warsteiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Lowenbrau, Honey Weiss and more. For a full list check here, http://www.parkrestauran…. There were 2-3 bartenders serving drinks at the bar, which was a bit slow, so we wound up ordering a couple mugs at a time.
All the food was delish!! The bratwursts with sauerkraut on a bun were YUM! The french fries were perfectly crisp, the chicken tenders were moist and juicy, buffalo wings were tender and not dry at all (container of hot sauce and Ken's Blue dressing served on the side). I wish I had tried all of their dishes because everything I tried was delicious, leaving me with a great big smile on my face. Even without the bracelet, the beers are decently cheap as well as the food. If I had known about this place earlier, I would definitely choose coming here than the overcrowded beergardens in Queens.
One thing saddened me. I was informed by my friend that the beergarden is only open on Fridays after 6pm from June through September. Plattdeutsche used to have it open on Friday's and Saturday's but found that it broke up the crowds so have decided to open Fridays only. There's only one weeek left in September, so I'm going to have to wait until next year, but I think I will find myself frequenting this place quite often. My friend also told me the restaurant is very good too so I will have to come back and check that out also. To all you Yelpers, come out and enjoy the German beer and food at this great establishment!!
