If their food had not made me sick twice and my cousin once, then I would have given this 4 stars. Besides the fact that its made me awfully sick, the food is very tasty and good. I wiIl say that the only times I and my cousin got sick was when weve had their seafood creamy pasta which is super oily. I only ever gotten sick from eating out when I ate at a Salvadorian restaurant, which closed soon after for not passing inspections... Id rather not risk it.

I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews about the service, but lord do I love this place.  The Italian Bus Tour or whatever is a fabulous way to try out the various entrees on their pasta menu.  I've tried at least 7 of the things you can pick from and they have all been OUT of this world.  This is one of the only nice restaurants in Lansing, so for crap's sake, support it!

After a family gathering, we called and reserved a table for about 20.  We ordered 5-6 pizzas, and one order of chicken fingers . Sorry, but I've had better. The pizza was scored, not cut . Not to worry, we had butter knives to finish the job. The poor chicken appeared to have spent plenty more time in the deep fryer than on the farm. Shouldn't cluckers come out "golden" brown?

Our waiter was attentive, but had somewhat of a superior attitude of himself on his initial visit to our table. Ain't dat right..... BIG GUY.

Now, here's an appetizer that's isn't on the menu. There is a bucket under the men's urinal, and it is NOT there to compensate for bad aim.

This is a very attractive place on the outside / inside. Tweak it.

I've been going here all my life and let me tell you, I don't think they've updated the inside at all, ever. After not having been there for several years, I met a couple friends this week on Monday night (dollar drafts!!) and we sat in the bar area. There was a dirty, old smell surrounding us, probably coming from the old booths and carpet. The booth adjacent to us had a nice big hole in the upholstery, white stuffing exposed. The bathroom needs some work.

The food is good. The go-to items are pizza, the Mamalano (beef) sandwich and the Popolano (Italian sausage) sandwich. I had a nice burger that was cooked the way I asked. Their dinner rolls are delicious.

My family has stopped ordering takeout from Popolano's because there is ALWAYS something missing from the order. It's a bummer because there's a shortage of independent, non-chain restaurants in that area.

This past Friday I decided to stop by Popolano's, I've been here before with my family and we ordered pizza, it was very fresh, tasty and affordable, so me and my Fiance decided to stop by again. I really appreciate a place with fresh ingredients, edible crust, and balanced sauce when making a pizza. The service was very friendly, the hostess is not much for conversation but you know 6 one way half a dozen another we can't have it all-Anyway, the Chicken Dumpling soup was awesome I absolutely loved it. I also like the price of the pizza because it's not as expensive as most places but taste better than the average pizza place. One problem I experienced was when our pizza arrived and we were given plates, they were like party plates or something, it was a plastic plate with images of pizza ingredients and designs on it. It kinda ruined the mood but I didn't complain. I was kind of embarrassed because I suggested this place to my fiance and he had this look on this face like he was disappointed. I visited with my family earlier this year in May, the pizza was great and the service was good, and they didn't give us any party plates either. Anyway both visits were great, I'll be back for 1/2 price pizza on Tuesdays. I'm not sure if I'll try anything else on the menu, I just love pizza.

This is my second time eating at Popolanos. This last time we stopped in we happened to stop in on the day for "create your own pasta". Cool idea. We ordered a bottle of wine since it was 1/2 price AND if you don't finish the bottle of wine they give you a to go bag. Cool idea!

Food: ordered angel hair pasta with vodka sauce, red peppers, sun dried tomatoes and chicken. My pasta sauce had no flavor. Which made my dinner not that great. I did take it home for lunch the next day and added some extra spices...yummy.

Staff was friendly. Decor was OK. Will visit again.

My family and I used to go here all the time when I was a child...recently my boyfriend and I decided to go, and we will definitely not be going back...EVER.

First of all, when we walked in the door, the hosts were chit chatting among themselves and completely ignored us.  Finally, ten minutes later we were seated.

After that, the waiter took forever to take out orders and give us our waters. I don't know what he was doing because the place was not busy at all!  And when I finally received my water, the glass was dirty!  I was iffy about even placing an order because, I kid you not, EVERY single person in that was seated in the same area was returning their food.

We decided to order a pizza...who can f@ck up pizza, right??  Popolano's does a darn good job at making the shittiest pizza ever.  First off, it took us over an hour to get our pizza...we ordered a medium pizza, and I have frisbees that are larger than the pizza we received; it was the size of a small pizza!  There was a total of eight squares of pizza there...seriously?  And to make it even worse, the crust was crazy burnt and the cheese, green peppers and mushrooms were all under cooked.

I went here after not having gone there for several years, and now I remember WHY I wont go back.

Server was OVERWHELMED and took forever to get both to out table to get our order and back again with any drinks or refills. When I asked him if he was overwhelmed, he smiled and said "no", even though he had the whole back section which was a huge party and a very picky table behind us. I don't blame him for that- I blame (mis)management for that. If one of the servers is struggling, then it is up to everyone else to step up to the plate and help that person out. To his credit the food came and came correctly.

Now for the food- we ordered chicken vesuvio and it had all potato and half of a wing for the dinner. For the price they charge they could have at least given a breast and a wing! I ordered the lasagna, which was more than ample, and everyone else at the table had good food as well. Now for the fun part- while my lasagna was good I was sick for two days... ironically the very reason I quit going there when I lived in the region before.

It makes me sad to have to write this, especially since they used to be so good- but used to seems to be the key word here.

The food is excellent, but your service depends on the wait staff you get. In 3 visits only once did the waitress get the drink orders for two right and you had to hunt them down all the time for a refill. The food is excellent for the money, the chef will make sure it is perfect or add something different on request. Try the pizza nuggets and the pan fried perch...awesome.

BLEH.  This place has been in Lansing since I've been a little kid.  I don't understand the popularity of this place.  I ordered take out with my girl about 2 years ago.  Everything was cold and bland, we both were very disappointed.  We recently tried again, and ordered take out again.  (I live less than 2 minutes away) I had a taste for lasagna, and she had catfish.  My lasagna was cold and uncooked in the middle, and had a really funky taste.  The side salads were warm and soggy, just disgusting.  I threw out most of my entree.  She didn't care much for her catfish either.  We definitely will not eat here again.  The girls at the take out counter were rude as well.

This is a family-friendly, old-fashioned Italian comfort food haven in the south suburbs. They offer a variety of pretty traditional appetizers like calamari and wings. Their rolls are fantastic. The entrees are heavy and have good portions. The servers are pretty attentive but this isn't a place for a quick meal. You won't get in and out in under an hour BUT it is a great place for a leisurely family meal where you can chat and not feel rushed. They truly are kid friendly and any dinner is likely to be filled with the sounds of children, so if it bugs you then just get take-out or eat in the bar side.

There is a pub section, with some televisions tuned to local games, Great specials on the appetizer and pizza sections of the menu during games. The beer is pretty typical for a South Side bar, with not a lot of craft beers but they aren't price gouging on beer like some places.

Overall, I like this place for casual dining. I come here with my 9 month old, my fiance and my folks to catch up over a Saturday dinner. We have a nice long chat and leave full and happy.

A-OK: cheap, pretty tasty, and quick.

They have sweet potato fries.  Love them.
They have awesome rolls.  Soft and yeasty.
They have decent sandwiches - some better than others.  I did not like the BBQ chicken sandwich but I have really liked the ham/pretzel one.

I have been going to Popolano's for around fifteen years and I have never been disappointed.  The service is excellent, wait staff ,very friendly and efficient.  Never a long wait, and the food is always good.  I prefer their pizza, the thin crust, but dinners do not disappoint either.  Fun and friendly
atmosphere to bring friends for parties, reunions, birthdays,or sporting events. Options are a large dining area with booths and tables, or bar  with tables booths and video screens.

NO ONE BEATS THIS PLACE!! The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the service is great! The atmosphere is very cozy and warm and you always are sure to get good food! The pizza has a sweet sauce that I love and the wings are wonderful.  Try the calamari and the stuffed canelloni...they used to have veal-stuffed canneloni, but oh well, the new stuff is good too! I really love this place and have been going here since I was a little kid.

Went last night for the first time.  Tuesday is 1/2 price pizza night.  The place was crowded, but we were seated right away.  Service was awesome, we had the best waiter (Taylor).

Pizza was good, had a sweeter sauce though.  I would absolutely go back for it again, you can't beat the price.

This place is awesome. It had a great atmosphere with food and drinks to match.  I had the spicy chicken with rigatoni and it was so yummy.  It wasn't too spicy, but had enough of a kick to warrant its name.  My boyfriend had the steak romeo, which is steak cut up with mushrooms and topped with cheese.  It was fabulous!  The drinks we had were great too.  I would recommend this place to anyone.

WOW! That is all I can say about Popolano's Restaurant! This place has truly impressed me. My mother and I went in a few weeks ago and everything was perfect. The salads were good, but what beat that was the hot, fresh rolls! Oh soooo good!  I had the Italian Bus Tour (which lets you pick 3 specific items from the menu to try) and my mother had the Chicken Parmesan pasta. Both were fantastic, but I especially loved the Crespelle mmmmmmm!!!!
Now lets get to the Service, Eric,( a taller, young man with blondish hair, kinda cute too ^_^)  was our server, he has such a fantastic sense of humor and was very helpful with recommendations. He definitely had knowledge of the menu and was confident in his approach. He even talked us into desert and I will be back for the Tiramisu! Since exceptional servers, like Eric, are so hard to come by we definitely will be back, for the service, the food, and just all around satisfaction we had walking out of this delectable establishment.

Classic, comfort Italian food that's close to home! Ah, nothing beats a casual dinner on a low-key night at Popo's.

    Must haves:
1.) Their rolls. Soft ball size. Fresh. Homemade. Warm. Super thick. Butter melts as soon as you spread it on these things.
2.) Their thin crust pizza with crumbled Italian sausage. Hand tossed crispy, crust. Sauce has a distince flavor that's sweet, which makes it unique. The sausage is crumbled in way that breaks down to a bunch of little pieces, which is also yummy.

Everything is good, but just meh! Nothing to jump out of your seat for. Their chicken vesuvio and meat lasagna with marinara sauce are also a nice try as well.

I believe Tuesday nights are 1/2 pizza nights. Give it try. They also have a very nice staff. Clean place too.

I've eaten several times at Popolano's, mostly because my husband likes it. Their lasagna and spaghetti are ho-hum, but I do really like their canneloni, which is what I always order ever since I discovered it. I can't truly rave about this place, but it is definitely a step up from Olive Garden.

The thing I probably like most about the place is the atmosphere. It's cozy, with lights slightly dim, but not so dim you can't see what you're eating. They also have a pretty good drink menu. Next time I go, I'll take the advice of other reviewers and order the pizza.

Other than that, the prices are fair and you get huge portions of food.

Now this is a Taste of the South Suburbs.  There aren't as many eateries as up north, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better one.  The restaurant caters to the Family and Groups very nicely.  The bar while a little noisy at times, like during a Bears Game, still is separated by a doorway that keeps the two worlds to their own.  The food is just down right great.  The pastas are excellent, salads are cold, and their own homemade bread is fabulous.  Matter of fact, they used the Bread Dough to make their outstanding Pizzas.  Toppings? Name it they'll put it on your pizza.  They have a special there called a "Six Pack Pizza".  Six different items on your pizza that will satisfify just about any craving.  This can be wornderful for the Pregnant Mommies or Crazy Daddies.  I'm a Crazy Daddy, each time I get one its really different.  My last one had, Italian Sausage, Green Pepper, Red Onion, Pineapple, Jalpeno, and Canadian Bacon.   Add a Cold MGD and I'm in heaven   You got to try this place !

i live on the north side of chicago. and i'm a deep dish girl. so wth was i doing in lansing, il...eating thin crust pizza, no less?

ah the things we do for love :)

my boyfriend grew up here and i've been hearing all about his family's fave pizza joint over the years. last month we trekked out here for an extended fam pre-christmas party...and made the obligatory stop at popolano's beforehand.

one bite of that ooey gooey slice and i just may be a convert! the sauce is sweet - but not sugary. the cheese is perfectly melted and slightly browned. the crust is crisp yet chewy. and the seasonings are sprinkled on to perfection. each bite was pure heaven! he was right!!

can we get a chicago outpost? pleeeeeeeeeeease???

Of all the places I've been, here we go:

somewhat of a limited menu.  A page of pastas, acceptable range of salads, tasty, tasty, tasty meat dishes, generously sized rolls.

Real good hospitality.  Comfortable environment, low lit bar with multiple games going on, space to host large groups.  Prices are reasonable and its not a chain restaurant like on the other side of the expressway.

If it were in the City, I might choose other places, but for their location in Lansing, if you are ever unsure, they are a safe bet.

Good enough for four stars from me.

Oh my God! The pizza melts in your mouth.  I kid you not.  I don't know how it could be done.  I used to be on the road for my job and any time I knew I was going to be near, I would always stop in and buy two Large Pizzas. One to eat and one to freeze for later.  Oh, how I wish there was one by my house on the NW side of Chicago. Please !  I would pay anything to have one delivered all the way up here.   My mouth is literally  watering as I type this. I give this place 50 STARS.

I used to work here, so I have issues with the way they do business that could cloud my objectivity, but I will attempt a fair review regardless.....
They are all  about the pizza here, but it's just slightly above average.  Even better if you like sweet sauce, but who knows, maybe they changed the recipe by now.....finally ripped off Beggars sucessfully (so much for that objectivity)
Lots of dishes and all pizzas are homemade with fresh ingredients which is a plus.....The servers generally are good.   Nice "pub" section.
It's a decent place for families or a night out for pizza, Calzones and beer.....but I don't patronize it myself

Good Pizza? Ouch. Sorry have to "sort of disagree with you there" - yeah. I have lived in Lansing since 1999 and been in and around the area 40 years. This is not even a good pizza in Lansing - much less good pizza in general. There are frozen pizzas that are better. The sauce tastes like tomato paste out of a can - no flavor. Toppings are decent but decent is not enough. In Lansing alone there are at least 5-6 better pizza places. Mama Rigettas, Stephanos, Waldo Clooney, Beggars, (not a huge Beggar fan but for the sake of discussion) Sanfratellos, Aurelios (next towns over)  to name only a few. I live for PIZZA and Lansing,IL does not have my FAVORITE PIZZA (reserved for UNOS - Chicago location only) but if you are eating pizza in Lansing - please don't go to Popolanos for it. Popolanos can be good for a dinner and drink slightly over-priced for what you get - but do not go for PIZZA. Order Mama Rigettas instead.

I've been going here since I was a tot.

It's a mix between a semi nice family restaurant & neighborhood pub.  Good place for a first date.  Nice atmosphere, & I hear they have karaoke there now.

How I've never managed to eat here, I don't know.

Had to go out to the old homestead for some family business, and since we were all together, my dad suggested a nice dinner. This is where we went.

A good family joint. Restaurant up front, bar in the back. Big menu. Lots of pasta, meat and pizza. I was ALL OVER the pot roast. Holy amazing, it was... almost as good as my dad's, and that is saying something. The chicken dumpling soup and bread that came along was pretty damn amazing, too.

Our server, Shane, was super super nice, and you could tell he did not hate his job. He was an excellent server. When he realized he had a couple of Bears fans at the table (I kept going into the bar to check the game at my Dad's urging, not that I needed much urging) he would bring us updates while we were eating.

Shockingly, we were actually too full for desert. That is kind of unheard of in my family.

I gather that my parents go here often. I'm going to try to get them to take me back soon. It was pretty great.

If my beloved were a yelper, I would totally be stealing his thunder in writing a review of Popolano's, but he's not, so I'll go ahead and take the plunge....

(He's from Lansing, and Popolano's enjoys most favored restaurant status among his friends and family from what I understand.)

We journeyed out to Illinois for the Thanksgiving holiday.  On the Friday after the great gorge we met up with two of his lifelong friends for lunch at Popolano's.  It was a no brainer for them to order: Pizza. Cheese and sausage pizza. I did actually bother to look over the menu. In an effort to have something of nutritional value, I ordered the spinach salad.  It was a decent sized serving (I couldn't finish it) and pretty good.  The locals definitely knew what they were doing. The pizza was great. I couldn't resist sneaking a few small pieces (they don't cut it like a pie, but in squares instead.) It was extra cheesy with nice big chunks of sausage. Very good.

The waitress was friendly and service was prompt. (She kept referring to all of us at the table as "yous."  It sounded funny to my southern ears.) The beers were large and cold.  From the looks of it during my very brief visit to Lansing, there's not a large selection to pick from for places to go out - rest assured, you won't go wrong with a pizza at Popolano's.
