So glad I tried this place out. I love shopping at Whole Foods, but I never stopped in at the bar side, until yesterday.

First off, I love the modern meets antique-y decor. For a commercial place they made it feel kind of homey. It's a small space, but enough if you avoid the rush. (come an hour or two before closing during the week to avoid the crowd)

For alcohol The Porch offers craft beer, some from local breweries, and wine. Prices are GOOD. Believe me I am an avid craft beer drinker and it can get pricey. But for a pint of Porch Ale it was $3. My husband got a pint of arrogant bastard for $4. You can't beat that. You also can get a growler of their beers. Another plus is that they rotate their beers daily. Each day they have a new selection! I love it.

In addition to their beer and wine, they serve coffee drinks and tea. It's like a better starbucks.

You can also order food. They have daily specials. Didn't order anything this time, but I will be back

    What's there not to like?

Stop here for some grub and brews every time I go shopping at Whole Foods. They have a fairly good selection of rotating craft beers on tap and a bottle selection as well. The menu seems to be rotating as well, because the awesome fish tacos I had last night were not on the menu last time I was there.

My first experience dining at the Porch was great! And based on that experience alone, I would have rated them with 4 stars. However, when I returned to the Porch a second time and for the same salad as what I ordered before (the asparagus Caesar) I was very dissatisfied.  The salad during my first visit (which can be seen in the photos section) was huge and full of chopped romaine lettuce, crunchy asparagus, hard boiled eggs and fresh grape tomatoes. During my second visit, the salad was nothing but iceberg lettuce, 1/2 the size as before, asparagus and tomatoes. Talk about cutting costs big time! And in the end, it was a poor choice because I will not order that salad again. It went from being one of the best salads I've had . . . to one of the worst. Salads aside, the Porch is saved by their awesome specials - Wed night wine flight night, for 5 bucks they give you a flight of wine paired with cheeses and on Thursday nights they do a beer school (I heard its best to sign up ahead of time with the beer school). The Porch also offers a great local selection of beer on tap and nice little coffee bar.

Thanks to Meredith for adding the Porch as a seperate spot on here (from the Whole Foods Market) (It deserves it's own spot)

I stopped in to the Porch today for a sandwich before doing some shopping in Whole Foods.  (if I shop in there hungry I'll buy the whole meat and seafood section).

I ordered a shrimp roll (Shrimp Salad on a potato bun and chips).  I didn't expect much being the price was 6 or 7 dollars.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice plate with plenty of shrimp salad on the bun and nice looking chips and even a little colliflower.  The shrimp salad was delicious.  Not full of fillers and had a great flavor and they were not mushy.  Perfect.  I had iced tea - being I had to work in a while.

The porch has a cool decor and the staff was friendly.  It wasn't as crowded today as I usually see it.

They have kraft beer, cool coffees and teas and good food.

You can bring food from the food bar in Whole foods and have it there with a beer if you like (which I've done before).

I like this place a lot.  I'll be back soon.

    (I've added some photos here)

Great spot to grab some grub, a brew and then some groceries. :-)

This place is usually packed to the gills and yesterday was no exception.  But we did manage to snag two seats at the bar just down from a group of dudes who were absolutely lit up.  Lots of slurred speech at high volume.  Not bad for two o'clock on a Sunday afternoon.  I wonder if their wives just drop them there while they do the shopping.

While the service wasn't bad, there were some times when it felt like I was sitting in the Ritalin Cafe.  The guy goes to pour my pint and gets distracted.  He goes to make my wife's Latte and gets distracted.  Our food items arrive ten minutes apart.  You get the picture.  The food was very good but not quite sure if I get the whole savory waffle concept.  Its a little odd.

But I must say I do like the opportunity of downing a couple of pints of 7.2% ABV beer with my lunch.  It put me in a delightful mood to go walk the aisles and giggle at all the women who come to this place dressed like they are auditioning for the upcoming season of "Real Housewives of Virginia Beach."  You can amuse yourself for an entire afternoon.

I thought that The Porch inside the Whole Foods deserved it's own page, as it is a separate deal all together with a separate entrance. First things first: they have glasses of wine for $1.50! You heard me. Granted they only have 3 glasses available (Chardonnay, Shiraz, and some other red) but if you can get out of a bar for under $5 and have a nice buzz then you need to make that happen. They also had other organic wines/glass available for $3, which is still pretty amazing. And they are full pours people. I am giving an extra star for the $1.50 wine and $3 wine.

Okay so wine aside, this place primarily focuses on beer. Pitchers, growlers, beer school, you name it. I don't know anything about their beer on tap so I'm not even going to try but according to the people we were sitting next to it was impressive.

As for the food, it's a limited menu. But they serve breakfast all day (gourmet waffles and hash apparently?) and then burgers, wings, a few salads, and a bunch of different house fries. We opted for the Fireman fries (buffalo sauce on fries with a side of dressing). Except they didn't give us blue cheese dressing, it was a bland ranch. It could of used something else though, more sauce or they should have also put blue cheese crumbles on it, that would have made it amazing. The fries themselves were pretty damn good, a nice brown color, thick steak-fry type. They also offer a daily special; on Friday it happened to be a pitcher of beer and an 18 inch pizza for $20. WHAT! That's a sick deal.

One more thing that needs to be noted (and is the main reason I'm not giving it 5 stars) is because the whole ordering process and cashier station is entirely too unorganized and disjointed. You have to keep getting up and down each time you order something, there's no official queue for you to know who to order from/who to pay, it's just kind of a weird free for all. The workers seem like they don't know what the hell they're doing, who was next, how to work the register, etc. When it came time for me to cash out, the worker literally couldn't figure out how to bring up my check so he asked me to take my tab to one of the other cashiers inside the store to figure it out. I just left. If you're not going to take my money and figure it out, I'm not going to do it for you chief.

If you opt to not eat there, you are also welcome to bring your food in from the salad bar or sandwich station, which is also what we did. Both times I've been, the bar seating is always packed (as early as 4:30pm!) but eventually we do find a seat. There was everyone from singles to a big party of 8 to babies here. I don't think I'd bring a baby to a bar, but that's just me. Overall, this is cool spot. If you're up to fighting for a parking spot and a seat at the bar, then you'll really be able to experience some awesome food and drinks for a great price.
