So here's the thing. We have a standing group of friends that go out once a month and there is always an issue. Our most recent trips have been to Sepia, The Melting Pot, and The Drawing Room. Well, the curse is over! We had an amazing night! Porkchop was outstanding and I can't wait to go back.
I saw this place in the Reader (maybe) a few weeks back and then was excited to see a YouSwoop for a great deal for dinner for four. One girl in the group is always VERY wary of places that offer discounts. She basically thinks if a place has a Groupon or something of the sort, the food will be leftovers, the staff will be stressed, and the place will be hopping with cheapskates! That could not have been further from the truth with Porkchop.
Our server, Ariel, was wonderful! Of the six of us, we basically had her order everything for us playing the game of, "porkchops or chicken?" "regular chicken or chicken and waffles?" It probably would have saved her about 20 minutes if we just said bring us assorted six meals. But she was so patient and sweet and had great suggestions.
We started with the fried ribs, wings, and mac and cheese. I thought all three were good, but the fried ribs were crazy delicious! I have never had anything like that at all and will definitely be ordering them for myself next time. The wings were great..they had this tangy lime taste to them. Ariel told us something about how long they're marinated or smoked...i just thought they were good.
I had the Chicken and Waffles, others had the sampler platter, the Fried Chicken and some sandwich...maybe pulled pork. The married folks shared a plate, but the rest of us had PLENTY to take home which was great because it was very affordable!
The only things I had that I wasn't crazy about were the mushrooms. They were actually really non-awesome. They were basically sliced white mushrooms in olive oil. Supposedly there was bourbon flavor, but we should have passed on those. The pulled pork wasn't bad..I'm not really crazy about pulled pork anyway, but it wasn't nearly as good as the ribs or the chicken. I would like to try the pork chop, it sounded good, but I had chicken to eat!
We were a bit of a rowdy group and it was nice that we didn't feel like we had to be quiet at all. There was a big party with a birthday, and when they started singing, the entire restaurant joined in..it sort of felt like a grown up chuck-e-cheese with whiskey.
Speaking of booze, the drinks were good. Again, I didn't really make any decisions, I said i like beer that is not wheat beer and let her pick one for me. I'm actually not even sure what it was, but it was good. The cocktails were good and pretty strong! Overall, we had a wonderful time!
Thank you so much for having us Porkchop. The only issue is that there was no manager on duty so I couldn't say thank you to you in person, I had to write this long, overly detailed yelp post to let you know how much we liked you!
See you next time!
