So here's the thing. We have a standing group of friends that go out once a month and there is always an issue. Our most recent trips have been to Sepia, The Melting Pot, and The Drawing Room. Well, the curse is over! We had an amazing night! Porkchop was outstanding and I can't wait to go back.
I saw this place in the Reader (maybe) a few weeks back and then was excited to see a YouSwoop for a great deal for dinner for four. One girl in the group is always VERY wary of places that offer discounts. She basically thinks if a place has a Groupon or something of the sort, the food will be leftovers, the staff will be stressed, and the place will be hopping with cheapskates! That could not have been further from the truth with Porkchop.
Our server, Ariel, was wonderful! Of the six of us, we basically had her order everything for us playing the game of, "porkchops or chicken?" "regular chicken or chicken and waffles?" It probably would have saved her about 20 minutes if we just said bring us assorted six meals. But she was so patient and sweet and had great suggestions.
We started with the fried ribs, wings, and mac and cheese. I thought all three were good, but the fried ribs were crazy delicious! I have never had anything like that at all and will definitely be ordering them for myself next time. The wings were great..they had this tangy lime taste to them. Ariel told us something about how long they're marinated or smoked...i just thought they were good.
I had the Chicken and Waffles, others had the sampler platter, the Fried Chicken and some sandwich...maybe pulled pork. The married folks shared a plate, but the rest of us had PLENTY to take home which was great because it was very affordable!
The only things I had that I wasn't crazy about were the mushrooms. They were actually really non-awesome. They were basically sliced white mushrooms in olive oil. Supposedly there was bourbon flavor, but we should have passed on those. The pulled pork wasn't bad..I'm not really crazy about pulled pork anyway, but it wasn't nearly as good as the ribs or the chicken. I would like to try the pork chop, it sounded good, but I had chicken to eat!
We were a bit of a rowdy group and it was nice that we didn't feel like we had to be quiet at all. There was a big party with a birthday, and when they started singing, the entire restaurant joined in..it sort of felt like a grown up chuck-e-cheese with whiskey.
Speaking of booze, the drinks were good. Again, I didn't really make any decisions, I said i like beer that is not wheat beer and let her pick one for me. I'm actually not even sure what it was, but it was good. The cocktails were good and pretty strong! Overall, we had a wonderful time!
Thank you so much for having us Porkchop. The only issue is that there was no manager on duty so I couldn't say thank you to you in person, I had to write this long, overly detailed yelp post to let you know how much we liked you!
See you next time!
No complaints, this is a solid comfort food joint. Nice atmosphere, great drink selection, and really good food. The mac and cheese was insanely good. Yikes. Too good. Chicken and waffles were tasty, as were ribs and porkchop. Definitely has a "neighborhood restaurant" vibe. Overall, it won't blow you away, but if you live nearby, it's a nice option to satisfy some soul food cravings.
Review Source:I really liked this place. Went on Vday with some girls of mine... Not too fancy shmancy but nice still. Good service and food. I had the fried ribs for a starter.. Geezus! They were amazing!!! For my 2nd course I had the chicken fried porkchop! Loved the crust, could have used a little more seasoning, but overall tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly!!! The bed of potatoes were delicious as well. And OMG that friggin cornbread.... which they serve to you like a slice of pie! Will definitely be going back soon for the southern fried chicken, which I've heard folks rave about!
Review Source:I decided to check out Porkchop on a Sunday afternoon with my brother and dad before heading to a Blackhawks game.
Beer - I was impressed with the craft beer selection... They had "Golden Goddess" from Goose Island's Fulton & Wood series on tap (my server could tell I was eying it, and she gladly offered our party of 3 all free samples). Â I ordered one of those, as well as a Southern Tier Pumking (which I hadn't been able to find on tap since last October. Â They had about a dozen beers on tap and all would have been solid craft choices. Â They also had a good selection of single barrel bourbons, etc... but I didn't have time to explore those.
Food - I ordered the "Chicken and Waffles" which came with 2 boneless chicken breasts that were fried in what appeared to be a spicy cornflake batter, served on top of homemade waffles and a side of hot pepper infused maple syrup. Â It was a large portion and still only $12 (because I was apparently still able to order off the brunch menu at 3:30 in the afternoon)...score! Â Â My dad ordered the brisket which he was pleased with and my brother ordered the BBQ combination platter. Â Nobody had any complaints.
If you're looking to get your craft beer / whiskey / smoked BBQ fix, this is a good spot for sure. Â It might no be the very best BBQ around, but combined with a solid beer and whiskey list and reasonable prices, I'm a fan for sure...
I thought Porkchop was good, not the best bbq food i've had but it can definitely hold its own. Â I had the chicken and my fiance had the ribs - ribs were definitely the way to go. Â We went using http://www.gdine.com so had a choice of apps and entrees. we got the sliders and fish tacos for apps - both were good. Â Overall, worth the gdine experience.
Review Source:Passable barbeque. Good beer selection.
The pulled pork was decent, but lacks a lot of character. The half chicken has a good amount of natural smokiness but the barbecue sauce seem to be lathered on versus grilled in. The appetizers we ordered were also unmemorable.
If you're craving barbecue, this will do the job... but don't expect a mind-blowing experience.
The menu seemed promising. .. but could not deliver. Â Everything we ate (pulled pork, chicken, mac n cheese, Â cole slaw) all lacked flavor of any kind. The chicken was over smoked, Â the silver skin on the ribs was not removed, the pork lacked moisture. Â The best thing about the whole evening was when our waitress took half of our bill off.
Review Source:Very disappointed. Â Wait staff, Â indifferent, food, fair. Â Had the fried chicken, it was ok, side of green beans was burnt? . Â Fried pickles were breaded weird n not brown. Â Chicken wings were fair. Â Mac n cheese had no cheese on either order. Â Glass of malbec was only about 1/8 full. Â Nice beer list, though so hard to read in the almost dark restaurant. Â In hindsight, wished we had not left our server over 20%. Â Worst Valentines day I have ever had.
Review Source:Cool atmosphere, def unique. Good comfort food if you enjoy rack of ribs and such. Cornbread was disappointing (I'm a big corn bread fan, so a little picky...). Great place to grab a drink and chill. Decor is unique- room divider was hanging saws, interesting arrangement. Def worth checking out if you're into a different experience!
Review Source:As it often is, the mission was fried chicken.
Who knew a place named 'Porkchop' serves fried chicken? And more importantly, how did I not know this until recently?
Anyway, my friend and I are no strangers when it comes to fried chicken, and as soon as we learned that Porkchop's rendition is apparently quite good, we scheduled a visit post-haste.
The menu at Porkchop is mainly barbecue, so I was a bit surprised that when we both ordered fried chicken that our server said it was the best thing on the menu. That was exactly what I wanted to hear.
The fried chicken dinner is three pieces (breast, leg and thigh) and is served with sauteed green beans and mustard smashed potatoes. I asked if I could substitute the smashed potaoes for sweet potato fries and was told it was no problem. Even though I was willing to pay for the fries a la carte, a restaurant's willingness to be flexible always sits well with me. To that I also added a side of cornbread with honey butter.
I was pretty impressed. I am "Goldilocks" when it comes to fried chicken. It's often too dry, too greasy, too bland, too soggy...it's never quite right. Porkchop's version definitely erred on the side of greasy, but as my friend and I both agreed, we'd rather have it be greasy than dry. It was crispy, flavorful and juicy; exactly what you want in a fried chicken.
Sides were great too. I tried my friend's smashed potatoes and I was happy to have gotten the fries instead. The potatoes were cold (I assume intentionally) and were huge chunks rather than smashed--more like potato salad. I did like the kick of mustard though. The green beans were not the least bit healthy (but let's face it, we were eating fried chicken so calorie count wasn't foremost on our minds) as they were sauteed in butter, but boy, were they tasty. Loved the cornbread and honey butter too.
Our waitress seemed a little too anxious to turn the table as she tried to bring our check without the offer of dessert. I don't always order dessert but I do always like hearing what the choices are so we asked about them. Options were two choices of bread pudding, some pies and ice cream, but as soon as I heard peach cobbler, all bets were off.
I have had better peach cobbler. Hell, I have *made* better peach cobbler. It was woefully lacking in peaches (at first inspection I wasn't even sure there were any) but there was a mound of cobbler topping. The ratio of fruit to topping was completely out of proportion. And sadly, the crumb topping tasted of raw flour. I could only manage a couple bites before I asked to have it wrapped up (I figured I could doctor it up at home and hopefully salvage it).
Porkchop seems to have a pretty solid three-star average, and my visit echoed that. I did find the menu to have a lot of variety and all of the food looked very good. I also found the prices to be reasonable and the atmosphere comfortable.
It's a solid option in the West Loop. I would have no qualms about returning.
Went for lunch with work colleagues today. The food is amazing. We had the Elotes and Fried Pickle appetizers and both were delicious. As entrees we had the BBQ chicken salad, grilled porkchop and beef brisket plate. The BBQ Chicken salad was probably as good as any salad could be. But the brisket and porkchop were both so good. I will definitely go back here. The service was a little slow. The appetizers came out pretty quickly, but we waited a while for the entrees. I guess make sure they know if you are crunched for time.
Review Source:This was a great place to go and hang out with friends and coworkers. If someone really enjoy whiskey, this is definely the place to be. The food was great and the service was awesome. I really love the open kitchen concept. I would make severly trips to place again. The food/drink prices were not the expensive.I found this place thru http://www.gdine.com
Review Source:Bourbon, beer and BBQ. Â I've been completely sleeping on Porkchop and love what they are doing. Â
Last night we had our second meal here and I thought it was about time I got around to a review. Â There are no shortages of restaurants along Randolph street and I've surely walked past Porkchop so many times I've lost count. Â Porkchop reminds me of a BBQ joint that I would find in the lowcountry. Â
After a quick walk over through the bitter winter chill (wasn't it like mid sixties a day ago?) I was in the mood for bourbon. Â Not only is there an impressive collection of them here, you can get flights and sample a few. Â My flight included the Devil's Cut, Makers 46 and Knob Creek Single Barrel. Â I enjoyed them all, the Knob Creek was the best. Â They have some great local craft beers on about a dozen taps. Â I followed up the bourbon with the Abita Turbodog and my wife had the Dragon's Milk. Â
As for the food, I've liked everything I have had. Â Our last visit we had the fish tacos, blackened chicken and the highly touted fried chicken. Â It's not often that I get fried chicken and I really liked it. Â Even though I consider myself a big eater I always go home with leftovers since portions are so large. Â Last night I had a half slab of the chipotle BBQ ribs and my lady again had the blackened chicken. Â We add sides of green beans, corn bread and pulled pork BBQ. Â Did you catch that? Â You can get sides of meat here. Â Outstanding. Â My ribs came with slaw and fries and they were smoked for hours and the pink meat was falling off the bones as I worked through them. Â Porkchop has a grillman that is on his game and knows what he's doing. Â I liked the cornbread as the best side and the honey butter that came with them was sinfully good too. Â The pork was delicious, I can see myself adding that as a side just about every visit. Â
As with most Southern cooking things are a bit on the heavier side, so know that going in. Â They also serve brunch and the menu has chicken and waffles and other creative dishes. Â Our service here has been adequate and we've never felt pressed by them. Â I would like to see printed draft beer menus to make things easier all around. Â Great idea with the huge sink outside of the bathrooms. Â Because, you know, great BBQ can get messy.
I don't even eat Pork like that, but dez ribs were amazing! The sauce was spicy and sweet, and the Cornbread (look I'm a traditional "Jiffy" kind of guy and don't usually like any other types of cornbread) was to die for, it was hot, melt in your mouth, buttery with honey. I am literally smacking my lips thinking about this place. "Singing* "I've been thinking about you...oh na na..." However on the flip side, the washroom is terrible and the place was a little chilly. Parking is also terrible.
Review Source:It was 4:30ish last Sunday and we were a little hungry after a day of hanging around the city. Â We're fans of Tomato Head next door, but decided to try Porkchop since we haven't been before.
Ample parking in the area, we had no trouble finding a spot. Â It was our family of 4, but, just as we approached the restaurant, the kids fell asleep. Â No biggie. Â I carried our youngest and we put our older one in a stroller.
We were greeted promptly and they asked if we had a reservation. Â We didn't, but they took us anyway and seated us at a table near the bar that had enough room to fit the stroller. Â There were a few other customers in at this time, but from what I've heard, it can get crowded here since it's a smaller restaurant.
We only wanted a quick bite so we both ordered burgers, medium, one with regular fries and the other with sweet potato fries. Â Very good! Â The burger tasted like it was fresh off the grill, slightly charred on the edges, like we make it at home (but better). Â Good flavor to the beef and not overdone. Â Burgers came on pretzel bread which was a bonus for us since we love it. Â The fries were very good too. Â Thicker cut on the regular potato and thinner on the sweet. Â Seasoned just right, and the leftovers still tasted good later that night at home. Â The other items on the menu look good and we'll be back to try others including the BBQ, brisket, fried pickles. Â We were definitely happy with our burgers and it made for a great quick meal.
In and out within an hour, which was perfect for us. Â Though, I'm sure if we had wanted to linger, it wouldn't have been a problem, either. Â Our server was friendly and checked on us frequently.
I like the décor here. Feels like a modern-day saloon, or what I imagine it to be. The hanging saws that separate the two dining rooms threw me off at first, but it fits in here. Love the water jars (clamp-top lid type) and the bucket of ice. And the utensils in jars on the table with paper towel readily available. Will be back to try it out again.
I went here for lunch. Â The saving grace was the tortilla soup, which was very good. Â I would give the soup four stars. Â As for the BBQ, it was sub-par. Â We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and beef brisket. Â The pork was too "barnyard" for me. Â There was a little "piggy" taste to it that was off-putting. Â Moreover, the BBQ sauce has a black cherry flavor that was too medicinal. Â The beef brisket was a better, but dry and too chewy - not very memorable. Â However, I should mention the service too. Â It was very good. Â The waitress was friendly and very attentive. Â She gave us a twenty-percent off coupon for our next visit. Â Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be using it.
Review Source:After reading the mixed reviews I was a little bit reluctant to try Porkchop and now I know why. I almost never complain about a restaurant but in this case I have to.
After being seated after a short wait it literally took close to 15 minutes for our server to finally take our drink order. There were 6 of us and we all ordered beers and that took another 10 minutes. In my experience the first thing that a waitress should take is a drink order, with a drink in your hand the wait won't be as bad. Â After another few minutes our food order was taken and we didn't see her for awhile. Mind you, the restaurant is not that big at all so I don't see the disconnect. The food came fairly prompt after we ordered. I ordered the pulled pork and my wife and friend ordered the brisket. The sweet potato fries were literally luke warm bordering cold which pissed me off. The sandwich was pretty good, lacking flavor but ok. But in my opinion considering the other restaurant options available ok just won't do . The brisket was also lukewarm and slathered in sauce. Both my wife and friend agreed on this. I'd also like to mention that it was incredibly loud.
Like I said I'm not a restaurant snob, My mother and daughter waitress but this place needs work. Prime location but service and food need work. The place is small so how come the delayed service and lukewarm food. Our waitress was nice enough but.....
The decor is a little creepy... like the film set of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's interesting, I suppose.
The service was good, the ambience is nice for a group gathering or date, and the food is average. We made a reservation a week or so ahead of time, and the day before, they called and told us there's an event that night. They didn't tell us to reschedule, but when we got there they acted like they were doing us a favor by letting us eat there during their event. So that was a little strange. We were right next to some question and answer session for crime writers.
The food was average. Not great, not bad. For a restaurant called Porkchop, I would have expected the pork dishes to be fantastic. The menu was pretty limited. They have to step up their game if they want to survive in the area, though. There are better options in the neighborhood.
Porkchop has a great atmosphere, decor, and staff. Â They had an impressive whiskey and craft beer selection, their food though was a bit hit or miss. Â
Everything that was slow cooked came out scrumptious. Â Order the sampler platter great food, great value. Â The ribs stole the show, a breeze would have been strong enough to knock the meat off the bone and both the BBQ sauces were tasty. Â Â
However, if you choose to venture and try the other menu items, you may be disappointed. Â The fried pickles had a cornmeal batter that made them taste unpleasantly grainy, and ironically, the Porkchop was also disappointing. Â
All in all though, the ribs were good enough merit a positive rating, seriously one of the best in the city.
I went to Porchop's New Year's Eve Speakeasy party, and I had a GREAT time!! There were 9 of us, all decked out in flapper dresses, suspenders, and fedoras. The host, (Giovandis??) was very helpful, and extremely sweet. They had a live band who was playing some very old songs, which fit the mood. Appetizers were being circulated by staff, and no one had any complaints. The bartenders were fast without losing the friendly. We will DEFINITELY be returning for dinner and drinks! ( as I am a vegetarian, I was skeptical about them having anything for me to eat beyond a salad, but happily, I was wrong!!) So glad I found this place!!
Review Source:Any restaurant named after a meat has my vote. Â And it's a porkchop? Â Two votes.
We ate here before the basketball game at the United Center and my real dilemma was which meat to eat and what kind of bbq. Â Then I saw the Chicken and Waffles, problem solved. Â I have a thing for Chicken and Waffles so I had to try these out. Â We also had elote and shrimp with sausage appetizers which were really good but probably prevented me from finishing my main event.
Chicken? Â Hot and fabulous! Â Waffle? Â The best one in my Chicken and Waffle tour. Â Syrup was also a standout. Â The only fail here was my ability to finish the chicken. Â You read that right, I wasn't able to finish the chicken and waffles as it is such a huge portion.
We will be back as there were too many tempting barbeque dishes and meaty plates calling my name.
Go Porkchop! Â Oh wait, I am channeling our day last Saturday. Â We had tickets to the Illini game at the United Center. Â (Yes, they did win for the first time in 4 years, thanks for asking.) Â This seemed like just the right kind of place to come before a game and was in the right direction when we were done.
Because of the overall rating, I arrived with moderate expectations and Porkchop just blew me away! Â We were the first people here for an 11:00 reservation. Â It seemed silly to say that we had one when the place was empty and just opening but hey, Open Table points add up!
Our server was very personable and explained the menu to us. Â She was extremely accommodating and cheerful. Â The restaurant is smallish but our table was roomy and well placed so that I could star at the saws hanging from the ceiling. Â It gave the place a pretty unique vibe! Â I ordered cranberry juice, coffee and chicken and waffles, what else? Â This was our breakfast and lunch so we shared two apps - the elote and the shrimp/sausage skewer. Â Such a good combo of smooth versus chewy, creamy versus spicy. Â We loved both of them but the andouille sausage brought a bit of a tear to my eye. Â
When the chicken and waffles arrived I wished we had split because it was HUGE. Â I had two giant fried chicken breasts that were mouthwatering good with a perfect waffle and out of this world syrup infused with the slightest spice. Â What an amazing combo of sweet, spice, crunch, meat, carb packed full of flavor. Â
I know my rating is bucking the trend but hey, can Illini fans be wrong? Â After we arrived a stream of other orange and blue folks followed us. Â We were also very pleased with the extremely reasonable bill and want to return for the bbq. Â The meal was definitely something to cheer about! Â Like I said to start:
Go Porkchop!
I booked a lunch reservation through http://www.gdine.com and had a great meal. Â The fried chicken was awesome! Â The server was very accommodating. Â I will return!
Review Source:Porkchop seemed to be suitable for a group of guys to grab food before beers at Haymarket down the street. The price point was decent, it's not too formal, and they have barbecue and whiskey. Sounds like a winner, right?
Friday evening the place was pretty well attended. I made reservations for five and we were seated promptly. The music was loud to the point you had to yell across the table. That shit is just annoying. Our server was very attentive and made the evening pretty seamless. She split the check after we all ordered, I felt like a dick, but we all had cards, and people were bitching like children. We expressed our gratitude verbally and on the tip line.
Breakdown:
+ $5 PBR and Old Crow whiskey shot for $5
+ Grilled Porkchop and maque choux was decent; good pork flavor was present and not over seasoned
+ Sandwiches received good praises (pulled pork & sweet fries)
+ Sauces were very good
- Fried pickles appetizer were awful
- Obnoxiously loud on weekend nights for dinner
I've had Porkchop via Fooda in my office building and I was pleased. The food just didn't do justice for me at the restaurant. Nothing really grabbed me and made me want to come back. There are too many places in the area I've had better experiences. I may be back but not sure what the motivation will be.
This has been one of the WORST restaurants I've been to in a while. I went here with a large group for my birthday and the server was very rude and inattentive. She often hung out at the bar while we were at the restaurant, and never checked up on us while we were there. One of my friends waited over a 1/2 hour after everyone had gotten their food, and the waitress never apologize nor checked up on her order. I had to call a manager to fix the situation. The food is extremely bland and not seasoned well at all. I will NEVER return to this place.
Review Source:I had very high expectations for Porkchop despite the mixed yelp reviews. So my hubby and I went for dinner on a Wednesday. I got a YouSwoop dinner for 4, called in advance to make sure we could work out the deal - for just 2 people. After much drama, they finally gave us an acceptable exchange for our deal --- which turned out to be the highlight of the night. The staff, was really really nice and went out of their way to try to accommodate us.
We got the Mac&Cheese with pulled pork - it was good, very Kraft Mac&Cheese, the pulled pork had little flavor. The Fried Ribs were great, greasy goodness!
For dinner, my hubby got the Southern Fried Chicken, he is really very easy to please rarely ever complains about food. He found the chicken bland and oily - after a few minutes he declared that the chicken did not come close to Popeye's!
I got the Beef Brisket, which I have not had since last year. First bite, I thought I was eating a bbq flavored gummy bear. They took my dinner back saying that their supplier delivered a different type of beef. I settled for the pan-seared catfish with spinach. All the salt that they forgot to put in the Mac&Cheese and my hubby's chicken they put on the catfish.
I really really wanted to like this place, with the kind staff they have, but really they have to do something with the taste of their food!!!
I really don't understand the low starred reviews for this place. Â Came here during the week with my boyfriend. Â He had purchased a groupon and we had walked by this place plenty of times since he lives near the area. Â
We shared the Elotes as an appetizer. Â Good. Â Nothing mind blowing. Â I would've asked for more of the chipotle aioli but i was being mindful of calories. Â
I ordered the Blackened Chicken. Â Big entree! Â Had enough leftovers for two more dinners. Â The chicken was flavorful however not spicy at all. Â When i see the term "blackened" I expect a bit of a kick. Â Nonetheless, the dish was still tasty.
The bf ordered the fried pork chop. Â Also a rather big entree. Â He said it was ok, nothing mind blowing but good. Â He did mention that the potatoes needed a little more flavor. Â
Place is pretty big and the staff are very friendly. Â As stated above we went in the middle of week around 8pm and it was pretty empty. Â There were two other couples there and a group of 4. Â
Bottomline: Â Place is better than OK but not ultra fantastic. Â Prices aren't that bad seeing as you get so much food. Â Would probably go back and try other dishes.
Where did this place come from?
A group of colleagues were in the burbs for business for a few days and were looking to take the Metra downtown for some dinner and drinks. Â Being local I just couldn't let them carry on with their original plans to hike out to River North and end up at Portillos for their one evening in the city. Â A few were craft beer fans so I wanted to get everyone to Haymarket before the night was finished, but where to find open reservations nearby for a 10 people literally hours before on a pleasant Friday night in the summer?
Well, at Porkchop apparently. I found it while searching the immediate area around Haymarket and Open Table said we were good to go so I informed the arriving group of our new destination. I timed my arrival on the Green Line perfectly to greet them outside Union station and after a short walk West we arrived to a waiting table in a semi-private room. Â I didn't realize this was also a Whiskey bar so a few of group were pleasantly surprised as well. Â The draft beer list is pretty well balanced with a variety of local and popular US craft brews in bottles and cans. Â The draft list was pretty limited though with a single Goose Island selection representing all of Chicago (but that is OK, did I mention that Haymarket is mere blocks away?), so we ended up sampling some different whiskeys throughout dinner (like 120 proof Bookers).
On to the food: being familiar with Elote I suggested some of these to go around, which were served traditionally on the cob (quarter cobs on sticks). Â We also opted for the Fried Ribs which I didn't get a chance to try but one of my friends like so much that he ended up trying the recipe back at home a few weeks later. Â The Sausage Lollipops where okay, they tasted more like a corn dog than any sort of spicy sausage.
For an entree I went with the Chipotle Bourbon BBQ Ribs which arrived with a healthy drizzling of BBQ sauce. Â Now I'm a huge Smoque BBQ fan and I like my ribs dry and smoky, so when I see a coating of sauce it always makes me wonder they are trying to cover up. Â But these pork ribs were excellent, they had a really bold amount of smoky flavor and the tangy BBQ sauce was a welcome addition to the meat, which there was also a ton of. Â This was a generous half-rack full of meat and just enough fat to add flavor during cooking but very little to eat around. Â I vaguely recall devouring the sweet potato fries as well.
The rest of our group opted for ribeyes, some brisket, and more fried ribs. Â Everyone was very pleased with the meal. Â The service was good as well, the only mistake I caught was they ended up a few beers short on the first round but then poured too many and dropped of a couple free Green Line drafts off at the table. Â After dinner we headed on over to Haymarket to enjoy some hopped-up local brews. :) Â I'm definitely planning on heading out to Porkchop again before the next Haymarket visit to sample the pulled pork or maybe even the brisket.
The main thing Porkchop is lacking is SEASONINGS! We had the mac 'n' cheese which was very bland. Had to add a ton a pepper and many sprinklings of salt. Deep fried pork chop again lacked seasoning - both on the meat and in the breading. Green beans had nothing. Same with the fried chicken. The pork and the chicken were both overcooked and dry. They came with sauces and guess what? Yes you're right (no seasonings for those who didn't follow the pattern).
There were only two girls working the whole front of the house (host, bartender, and waitress) and our waitress was still very attentive and nice so I give an extra star.
Recently stopped in on a sultry Friday night for a quick bite. Â We had a fantastic appetizer of fried ribs and potatoes and finished it off with fried chicken and waffles. Â Service, beer selection, and food was all excellent. Â Go very hungry because the portions were very large. Â Between the appetizer and entree, we had more than enough food for the two of us. Â
Plus they have an awesome Sunday Brunch.
Been here twice and both times I enjoyed the food. I didn't have an alcoholic drink either time I was there. The pulled pork was pretty good and the second time I had a chicken sandwich.
The silverware is in a communal dish on the table with a row of paper towels. Bunch of saws hanging all over the place and you can see into the kitchen. I was there for a meeting so I will be back, I will probably eat while I am there. The food was pretty good.
My service was exceptional...although, we were the only diners in the place at 9:20pm. Â Our waitress was SUPER nice. Â Gave us a sample of the cornbread...I asked to try the different bbq sauces, and she even gave a sample of her choice of beer (which sadly was not to my liking). Â I must say, the actual bbq is good, but it's not quite as exceptional as some other bbq places (smoque, lillie q). Â The sauces they had were quite good! Â However, i ordered the ribs...and I have never seen such a good cut of meat before at any chicago are bbq restaurant! Â I can usually handle half a slap pretty easily, but these were just piles of meat! I must say, for the money get so much! Â The corn bread was amazing and I swear that I had the best green beans I have ever ate before. Â The only negative note, which wasn't even a big deal, was they were out of wine and my beer wasn't served exactly cold.
Check came, used a http://restaurant.com coupon right from my phone and had no troubles using it! Only catch was, we were $3 shy of $50...so bring on desert! Peach cobbler, so good!
Went here last night. It was a Tuesday night and the place was pretty dead, but our server was very friendly and so was the bartender. Everything I had was fantastic.
Fantastic whiskey selection and reasonably priced. If you like BBQ and you like bourbon, you'll like this place.
I'll definitely be back.
I rarely write reviews, but wow, Porkchop has got to be hands down the best place to dine in the West Loop! Â I can not think of anything bad to say about this place. Â Delicious food, Outstanding staff, Strong drinks, and a Great laid-back Atmosphere to dine at. Â
I first went there for brunch for a friends birthday, which was a blast and find myself to be a frequent customer...the Fried Chicken and Whiskey keeps calling my name back for more! Â I recommend anything and everything on the menu! Â Seriously, the food here is some of the best in Chicago. Â Porkchop is definitely a great place for foodies.
