This is one of the best values I've seen at an airport. For something like $6 after tax, I got the italian loaded with lettuce, tomato, peppers, and pickles, which left me happy and full. I think I've stopped by here twice now. It's definitely what I will be looking for next time I'm in MDW.
Review Source:Despite the fast food subway/quiznos type of service, the place looked really nice and had superb service. Even the food was way better than I expected.
This place knows what they are doing: quick formula without overcharging for decent food.
I'm glad I had breakfast here on Saturday. Sure helped my hangover and sure beats McDonalds.
Potbelly is my go to place at Midway. I'm usually on a Southwest 737 and lucky for me, this is right by the Southwest gates. If I'm not eating at Harry Carry's, I'm eating here.
I had the toasted chicken and it was excellent. I got it on wheat and I highly recommend the wheat - perfect texture! The line will look daunting when you arrive, but don't worry, these folks MOVE FAST. It kind of reminds me of the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. You get the order in and then shuffle along until you go to pay.
If you're in Midway, give Potbelly a try!
Also: Enjoy the Zapp's chips. Quite possibly the best thing to come out of NOLA.
Bombest airport food! It's the highlight of my layover at MDW airport.
The line moves fairly quickly here. Before you get in line, decide what you want. You will be yelling the type of sandwich you want approx 3 seconds after you step in line. The disclosure of the ingredients you want in the sandwich comes more intimately... while you are in line in front of the person.
Opt for the peppers! And if you get an extra pickle, know that you're getting a thick and long piece ;)
This is the Potbelly Sandwich establishment that started it all - in the legendary Midway location, at the crossroads of America. Â You can get their pockets of sandwiches, with delicious toasted wheat or white, the common meats and cheeses, veggies, and their delicious hot spring mix. Â They've now opened locations all across the country.
Highly recommended, turbo fast ordering, efficient, and tasty. Â What more can you ask for in a sandwich manufacturer?
By far the best option in a dismal concourse B (Chicago - Midway)... Â by a huge margin. Â
Breakfast sandwiches are under 4 bucks, and your stomach won't regret it while you're on the plane later (anyone who has tried any airport Chinese or fast food spots know what I'm talking about).
My advice would be to just avoid all other concourse B restaurants .. Â I didn't try them but trust fellow yelpers. Â They all have 1 star. Â But Potbellys? Â 4. Â Boom.
I noticed a very long line for this place on my way in. On my way out it wasn't as busy so I decided to give it a try. Â
It's all about expectations. It was 4 bucks for a hot ham, mushroom and Swiss breakfast sandwich. It was really quite good and reasonably priced for being in an airport. I'll make it a point to stop by the next time I come through midway.
When you fly to the east coast on Southwest Airlines, chances are you will have to stop at Chicago/Midland. Â I get excited about that for one reason and it is Potbelly's! Â One for my belly immediately and one for the plane is how I do. Â It's always busy but don't be intimidated by the line because they are really efficient. Turkey, chicken, wreck, you really can't go wrong.
Review Source:Ate their last Thursday on my way back to Atlanta. Â I had a sandwich called "The Wreck" with everything on it. Â The best sandwich I have ever eaten! Â The Wreck has roast beef, ham, and I believe salami with swiss. Â Their hot peppers kick up the heat on the sandwich. Â Would highly recommend!
Review Source:Though I rarely get food at airports given the high mark-ups and largely average fare, I figured Potbelly would be worth trying during a layover. Â Went with A Wreck on multigrain with hots and it was solid! Â Warm and toasty with a slight edge over Quizno's in terms of ingredient quality and freshness. Â And at $4.70 for a 6" sub, not bad at all especially for an airport eatery.
Review Source:I love Potbelly. When I lived on the East Coast, I used to eat it all the time. So when I found one at Midway, I immediately stopped in for a chicken and cheddar.
I'm not sure. I feel like it wasn't as good as I remember, and it might have to do with the huge mass of lettuce and the very small amount of chicken in my sandwich. Still, a great place to grab a very quick bite, and you might even hear some local music when you're waiting!
Again, another place I have to stop in when I return home to Chicago. First at Midway, then when I leave from Midway. Â Always get the Wreck, Â with everything, no onions. Sometimes try it with the skinny bread...a little less bready and filling. Soups consistent and great shakes. You better know what you want when you enter the line as it moves along quickly, and I dont want any delays trying to get my Wreck.
Here's a tip....if you take first flight out of Midway on Southwest, Potbelly's at MDW opens at like 5 or 5:30am. Forget breakfast and get a sandwich, double wrapped for the plane. Yum.
Flew through MDW twice in a week and I stopped here 2 times and had great results.
It's a great, warm sub-like sandwiches, for a great price of only $6 or $7 (would be a steal even on the streets - even more so here since most other places have an airport premium). One of my visits, on a weekday evening with a line of 12-15 people deep, they had it going like clockwork. They had dispatched another worker to use a wireless keypad to get our orders while in line and I received my order within 5 minutes. Efficiency.
I understand why this place is the highest rated food place in MDW on yelp and I'll remember to grab napkins after I order when I fly through here next.
I have my choice of carriers. Â I can fly who I want. Â But if I fly Southwest to the east coast I get to stop at Midway. Â And if I stop at Midway I can get me a Potbelly's. Â Thusly, I fly Southwest.
The connection on the early flight is slender. Â It limited me today to only the small "Original" sammich. Â The Big is my preferred option, as it is a generous helping of mouthwatering goodness. Â Goodness that should be savored, not rushed.
I barely had time to lick my originally-sized "Wreck" this afternoon, that's how short the interval between deplaning and next boarding. Â I licked it and stuffed it into the hole in my head without I think even chewing once. Â But the lick was luscious and I savored the flavor all the way to NY.
Tell you what - these Potbelly workers work hard, yo. Â I'm serious. Â It's been many moons since I moved at the clip these folks were moving at, servicing the line that stretched into the terminal but still only 10 minutes to get from the end like 30 people deep to the register with love in your hand. Â The crew behind the counter numbered maybe eight, counting the cashiers. Â Eight serving eight hundred an hour give or take maybe a little less than that but still - a never-ending snake horde of people and the sammich workers just there, making sammiches, being all nice, getting it right. Â Downright Biblical in its proportion.
A chorus of angels can't be wrong - fly your Southwest through Midway. Â Get your Potbelly on.
Sooo tried Potbelly the first time in an airport on my way back from Florida. Starving this was the first place we saw.
I think this place is a chain, not sure. Wow their Mediterranean Sandwich was amazing!! Their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was equally as amazing, and they serve Starbucks coffee. Win, win, Wizinnn...
Ok long line though, and they forgot to make one of our sandwiches. So we wait for a while. Most of the employees were zombie like and didn't want to acknowledge us. But one employee was very helpful and she got us our sandwiches and two free cookies.
Delicious. Please come to San Diego!
Quick, fast, and efficient. All of their staff members are so nice and helped me pick the add-on's for the breakfast sandwich... which by the way sucked. Their regular lunch meat sandwiches are delicious, but their breakfast is disappointing.
On the plus side, they serve Starbucks coffee!
I'm not a fan of airport food because its either icky, overpriced, or both. Potbelly solves this dilemma: delicious food at reasonable prices. Â
Don't get discouraged by the line of people. It moves relatively quick and in the end you'll realize why there is always a line at Potbelly! Â Potbelly is known for their yummy sandwiches, but they also offer salads, soups, and baked goods. It works like a Subway in that you get in line and choose what you want: type of sandwich (take a look at their menu for the types of sandwiches they offer); sandwich size; bread type & any extras/condiments. BUT do not be mistaken as the taste and quality of Potbelly is much better than that of Subway! Â
I love the hot Roast Beef Sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo, and hot peppers. Â Since I tend to stick with something I know and enjoy, I haven't ventured out to try any of the other offerings.
You can easily take it to go OR if you can't wait to devour the sandwich you can certainly eat at the airport. Â There are a few tables in Potbelly, but your best is to grab a seat from the plethora of seats in the common seating for the various eateries nearby.
Flying into and out of Chicago Midway Airport?
Hungry?
Want something yummy AND cheap?
Then get your hungry and frugal self to Potbelly located IN Midway Airport!
I usually avoid airport food, the price, the taste, the I only got 5 minutes to board. But Beth and I had a 2 hour layover in Midway and were starving when we arrived :( After a quick walk around the terminal we decided on Potbelly.
The line was long, almost out the door. But there was someone using a tablet to take orders while you were in line. By the time you got your beverage from the cooler ( if you wanted ) your sandwich was being called out by one of 4 sandwich creators. Very efficient.
I got the meatball while Beth got the turkey. Both sandwiches were very hot, fresh, and delicious. I would of appreciated more marinara sauce on my meatball, but the meat itself was so moist, you really didn't need it. Oh and the fact that i can get HOT peppers on my sammich, SCORE!
Seating looks very limited, but we got a table as soon as we paid. The line never went down, just constantly moved. There was a lady in a wheelchair, the girl taking orders with the table seated the handicap woman, took her ordered, went and got it and assisted her in paying for it. Very well done Potbelly!
Usually I avoid grabbing food at the airport because it's extremely overpriced for fast food, however, my friend and I were running late and weren't able to get food ahead of time. We decided to get Potbelly because we saw them all over the city, but we didn't have room to eat it in our foodie itinerary. Yeah, we came to Chicago to eat... and EAT we did. Hopefully all that walking helped burn some of the calories off.
So after going through the line at security, I went through the line at Potbelly. A man took my order while I was still in line which made the process a whole lot faster. I ordered The Wreck which had 3 types of deli meat in it. It was recommended to me by the guy taking my order so I went with it. By the time you get to the area where they put toppings on your sandwich, it's already been put through the toaster. Then they wrap it up, you pay, and you're on your way. The 6" sandwich was less that $5, not bad at all for the airport.
The sandwich was pretty tasty, but I'm not exactly sure what's so Chicago about it. It's probably just the fact that they're all over the city. I'm sure true sandwich lovers wouldn't mind getting a potbelly from these delicious sandwiches.
I had a recent trip to Chicago via Midway airport. A friend told me to check out Potbelly's while I was waiting for my flight. Am I glad I listened. They served me one of the best roast beef sandwiches I have ever had. Ever! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bread was fresh and just as tasty. Potbelly's has a number of sandwiches on their menu. I've heard their Italian sandwich is also amazing.
Good news for St. Louis: Potbelly's is opening its first location in Missouri In Creve Coeur at the corner of Olive Blvd and New Ballas Road . According to their website the address is:
11615 Olive Boulevard
Creve Coeur, MO 63141
I know where I'll be heading for lunch very soon.
Oh Potbelly's - you were my hangover cure before boarding a terrifying SouthWest Bus Plane back to CLE. Â You're consistent, you're tasty, the pickles are GREAT, and you're fast. Â I love the new order in line thing ... really keeps things moving.
If you're in Midway - hit this location up before boarding your flight!
If I'm being honest with myself, this is probably the best eat spot at Chicago Midway, particularly for vegetarians who are trying to be at least marginally healthy as they travel. Â Passing through one early morning on my way to LAX, I opted for egg whites and veggies on wheat and, on the way back, it was the chickpea veggie salad without egg (dressing comes on the side, and I chose non-fat vinaigrette).
It's basically the same as any Potbelly you'd visit, but this particular location bears mentioning because it is the basically the best that Midway has to offer. Â The prices are super reasonable, they're quick, the food is tasty and can be made fairly low-cal / fat, the staff are cordial, and they serve Starbucks coffee. Â You certainly could do worse.
This Potbelly's location is my favorite in all of Chicagoland. I literally go there every time I fly out of Midway.
Like all other Potbelly's, they've got delicious sandwiches that are quick and cheap and not going to make me have a heart attack like many other airport options.
Here they've also instituted a pre-order system to help speed things up so you don't miss your flight. For what these employees have to deal with (lots of cranky travelers), they're really upbeat!
Umm yeah. Awesome.
I ended up getting two sandwiches they were so good. Perfect tuna that's not too dry but not mayo filled, just really good food. The staff are great and the prices are even better. Don't be scared by the lines, they move really quickly.
I can't wait to go back through Midway.
Why 4 stars? Â There's a reason this is a staple in Chicago.
 ---  ---  ---
A layover from Bay Area 1 (San Francisco) to Bay Area 2 (Tampa) found me in Chicago at Midway Airport. Â Upon landing and after checking in, I quickly scanned through some Yelp reviews in hope that a Potbelly would be in my terminal. Â There happened to be one right in between terminal B and A. Â I happened to be landing in terminal B and taking off in A. Â Jackpot. Â Potbelly. Â Jackpotbelly.
I'd been to a Potbelly years ago, but didn't remember much about it. Â Over Christmas, I was happy to see that they've expanded into my hometown of Houston, but didn't get the chance to try it out while visiting family. Â I was not going to pass up the chance this time.
I wasn't sure what to get, but when in doubt, going with the first thing on the menu is usually a good choice. Â Chicken and Cheddar, 6 inch on white. Â Hollar.
The two things I wished I had done differently: Â 1) Picked up a drink from the other side of the restaurant. Â I didn't notice the lack of a fountain, and was only told at the register that I had essentially missed the boat on getting a drink. Â Technically I could have cut through a large crowd of people in a confined space to fetch a bottle of Coke Zero, but I didn't want to be a HUTL - "hold up the line" guy. Â The cashier was nice enough to realize my predicament and offered me a cup for the water fountain as an alternative. Â 2) My other mistake was getting the hot peppers included on the sandwich. Â I told her to go "half speed" on them, but it was still packin' too much heat for this acid reflux poster child. Â I had to go grab a fruit smoothie elsewhere to cool off my esophagus afterward.
Zapps chips rock. Â Any place that carries them will always be close to my heart,
Potbelly's, see you at my brother's wedding in April in the Houston.
I love Potbelly sandwiches! I don't know why we don't have any in California. This, Earl of Sandwich, and Jimmy John's are my favorite sandwich shops. Forget Subway.
The prices are the same here as they are in other Potbelly shops. 4.60 for a small, five something for a large. Surprising that the prices are that good since it is in an airport.
I love their "A Wreck" and "Italian" sandwiches. Also their cookies are uber yummy! I always get a oatmeal chocolate chip cookie when I go.
This place is great! Seriously good airport food. I don't bother going anywhere else when I'm in Midway. And it definitely earns the airport an extra star just because of this place!
Prices are super reasonable, and there's quite a selection. I usually get the meatball sub, which is always good. There's often a line, but this place is well-staffed, so it moves really quickly. The shop itself is really cute and makes you feel like you're not in an airport anymore (if you're lucky, you can snag a table, there's usually one or some bar seats free). And you can get Starbucks coffee here, so that you can fulfill your coffee craving between flights.
