At 11 on a Friday night, this was one of the only places on the boardwalk that was still bumpin. Literally aside from the tacky t-shirt stores, nothing else was open.

There was definitely a mixed crowd from the younger memorial day vacation crowd to older locals. Still it was obviously a favored spot due to the amount of people inside(not enough to overwhelm you and plenty of room to manuver while inside.

We returned again on Saturday night (there was a live band so there was a $5 cover).
The band performed on the small stage at the far end of the room; again there was a pretty decent sized crowd. We got there early enough that we scored seats before the majority of people arrived, so we had a place to hang out.

It's a great place to hang out if you don't want to be too dressed up and just want to have a good time in a casual place!

Can't believe it's still around, still....In the late 80's we came here in winter and had a wonderful Upside Down Margaritas? And then....  Oh yes.  there was a fly in one additional shot of tequila and we commented and the bartender proceeded to strain it out and give us the shot. OMG, was that entertaining... We do get back to the East Coast from the West now and then, but it's in Montgomery County,Md. area...  Still, if we're making a trek to the beach back East, we'd check in to save our sanity and have some more laughs.

There aren't a ton of drinking options right on the boardwalk, so when we saw the Purple Moose, we decided to stop in and grab some liquid nourishment.

The Good:  Friendly bartender.  It was damn entertaining to watch drunk 40-something's dance to bad music.  Decent sized dance floor and stage for live music.

The Average:  Typical prices for this area.  Huge space that felt more like a strip club than a bar.

    The Pathetic:
    -  The bouncers.  These guys couldn't even shave!  Having worked in the industry for YEARS, I wouldn't trust these kids with much.  And really, just because I have an out of state ID doesn't mean it's fake.  I'm old enough to be your dad, junior!  (ok, not really, but seriously... come on man!)
    -  The bartending skills.  Dry vermouth in a Manhattan?  No bitters?  WTF.
    -  No draft beer.  Lazy.

Stopped in here on a sunny Sunday afternoon to seek some shade and grab a quick cocktail.  This place was all business.  The bartender was direct and quick despite the place being fairly quiet at the time.  Nothing rude just to the point.  The beers were cold and the mixed drinks were fine.  Nothing to prevent me from stopping back in for a drink again.  Not sure if they even had a menu.

If you're looking for a good, STIFF drink on the OC Boardwalk THIS is where it's at.

My family and I were here celebrating a birthday during 4th of July weekend. This was one of the many stops we made along the Boardwalk.

We were there pretty early in the afternoon, so it was quiet. There's plenty to choose from at the bar, including the namesake "Purple Moose" (heard it was good, but didn't bother trying) and several beers on tap.

Don't get TOO used to a song on the jukebox. The moment you start snapping your fingers and tapping your foot, someone will come along and interrupt your party program.

This is where you get your live band and dj action on.

    pros
right on the boardwalk easy access
    stiff drinks
live bands and dj's are usually decent.( the 80's band played Ahlea by Donnie Iris..impressive)
    good mix of peeps.

    cons
three door men? c'mon I'm no trouble.
drinks all over the dance floor.

    Good party spot.

    just do it.

Two thumbs up for Purple Moose.

Strong drinks, decent prices. "Italian Surfer" = yum. Friendly service. Low key. Seems like it would be super fun with a live band playing... Has two bars and a dance floor. Dark, kind of stuffy. But not bad. Seems like more of a biker bar.....

Stiff drinks, good live music, and great people watching makes a great combination.  Favorite bar in Ocean City.

I was in the Purple Moose over this past weekend. It's the same as always, awesome bloody marys! The bartenders are always very attentive. I am not sure why I waited so long in between stopping in but I will definitely be back soon!

The OC boardwalk has really changed.  I bought my t-shirt at their store next door (very limited inventory) and had my purple PMS specialty drink of which I still have no idea what was in it because they had no menu and my waiter sounded illiterate.  Oh well, I guess you really can't relive certain moments.

if you want the shore "cheese," this is a good place for you.

Strong drinks, good service, LOTS of cute eastern-euro shore worker girls there for their time off.  I was thinking that if I were single this would be a good place to meet some of those cuties in lieu of chatting them up at the t-shirt shop while they were at work.

Music left a bit to be desired.  We saw a classic rock band called "alive and kicking" Obviously skilled musicians--pros--but still, even if you are playing covers you can at least rip on them a bit.

All the music was heavily processed, digitally manipulated, so that it kind of lost that bar-band spirit.  Fast songs were slowed down a touch, slow songs sped up, maybe to keep a dance beat feel?  I think they needed to turn down all the reverb and slick production so you could hear some more soul.  It was a club at the shore, it doesn't need to sound like you are at the meadowlands...

I like my watering holes to be dimly lit, but the Purple Moose seems downright DARK sometimes.

Music was better before the DJ got there.  Service there wasn't exactly attentive, but they weren't quite bordering on bad yet.

The drinks were very stiff, though, which is what kept the Moose at a 3 star level.  When I come back here it will be for the booze, not the establishment!

    Fun on Thanksgiving! - Dec 1, 2009
Great place to stop in and have a drink on Thanksgiving. We've done it two years in a row, plus we met some new friends. The best part of the place is the owner (don't know his name) and Omar the bartender. The owner generously sold us his Moose in a Can which we are so happy to have! Omar is a great and cheerful bartender. Is his name really Omar?

Ah, the Purple Moose. I used to work next door to you. I loved stopping by on my 10 minute breaks, oh so many years ago, and buying a shot of Wild Turkey and a Budweiser and then going back to the grind. Thanks for being there for me. I hope to return to your tavern someday. If not we will always have that special time together.
