Great view. Decent food. Terrible management toward staff. No respect. Made me sick.

Met a dear friend here for lunch.  We were busy chatting and not looking at the menu.  We had a waitperson in training, who was very patient with us.  we had white Bordeaux with lunch, which was lovely...a little too lovely.  We both had beet salads (minuscule, but tasty) and mussels that were fresh tasty and in a delectable broth.  We shared a profiterole for dessert which was scrumptious, but TINY.  Jesus, I get it, it is French, but to see the portion sizes other than the mussels, I had to break out my reading glasses.  This is why French women have small asses, but are bloody hungry all the time.  And our bill was $183.00 before tip.

It was very tasty, but that is a bit steep for lunch.

Nobody can deny that Red Hat is located in a picturesque location, right on the Hudson River, with incredible views. Even better, they have a small lounge on the roof that is absolutely ideal for a warm summer night. These things are great, but that's where the good news ends.

My experience at Red Hat's lunch one afternoon is what prompted me to write this review. Personally, I feel like the menu is trying way too hard. I think they could greatly benefit from a far more casual menu, this isn't Le Bernardin.

Either way, I opted for the Classic Grilled Chicken Paillard. When it came, I was pleased with the portion size, but disgusted with the amount of dressing. It was soaked, drenched, drowning, you get the point. It made the last quarter of the meal difficult to eat, as these pieces of salad had really been soaking in the dressing.

For something as simple as a salad, Red Hat really dropped the ball. I've been here for dinner twice before as well, and both times, I found myself disappointed. The food is just lackluster, and it's unfortunate.

One last gripe, how do they not have any draft beer? Seriously? That's ridiculous, with a rooftop bar/lounge area like that, and no draft beers.

Red Hat never disappoints. It's the kind of place we can go for a quick bite as we're passing through or a special celebration. I'm boring, although a foodie, I almost always opt for a beet salad, mussels and profiteroles, however, my husband and daughter change it up. (My son almost always gets the Claiborne steak.).

If asked, they will gladly bring a couple of wine "tastes" if unsure which one to choose. It is rare (no pun intended), but on the occasion that the food does not show up as specified or asked for, they immediately correct the problem without giving you the feeling that you might not want to eat what they return with :-/

As some pointed out, you do only get one roll to start with - I'm not sure how many diners expect to eat before paying for a $25 piece of lovely fish, but my husband and son have never had an issue getting more when they've wanted more.

The wait staff is professional and seem educated on what they are "selling" and the food is delicious and mostly environmentally friendly. Here's what I suggest to the diners that are unhappy with their meal ---speak up. Nobody is on top of their game 100% of the time, but if I have an issue at a top notch place like the Red Hat, I say something. I don't judge an establishment on what I consider to be a problem - I judge it on how they correct the problem. Red Hat is our go-to place for a wonderful dining experience.

Absolutely loved this place and cannot wait to go back.  The location is right on the Hudson and must have some amazing views when its sunny.  We went during Tropical Storm Andrea!

The building itself is beautiful.  The menu options are excellent as is the staff.  We had a reservation at 8 but had to wait until about 8:30.  This wasn't a problem, had a great bartender and fantastic Montepulciano to pass the time.  And believe me, the lamb shank was well worth the wait!

This is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the majestic Hudson. The views are reason you come here.  The food is average and overpriced using the standard Westchester formula of $13 drinks, $25-$30 entrees and $9 desserts, they do put a special twist on it by offering 1, yes 1,  dinner roll per person, more though can be had by asking ( how nice) There is a  outdoor rooftop patio worth visiting  (drinks only!). Suggest eating elsewhere and coming here for cocktails and view.
Had to eat later once I got home:(

Great selection of different foods and everything we had was cooked to our liking - not a French restaurant per se though so check out the menu to see if it is food you would like.  I had the line caught swordfish - good to see places that are environmentally minded.  Also, we dressed way too fancy for this during the summer, no need for sport jacket/dress.  Great views of the river from most seats and outdoor seating.  We plan to go back for lunches as well.  Prices are on par for similar places.

My husband and I went here on Thursday for dinner with his parents. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and had a good time. My husband made a reservation earlier in the day for 7:30 (no 7 pm availability) and when we got there, we would have had to wait if we wanted a seat outdoors, so we headed inside. The restaurant itself is very nice, 2 levels, facing the Hudson, but it's incredibly noisy. My in-laws shared the beet & burrata appetizer while the hubby & I shared the rillette appetizer. Our appetizer was pretty good, and the pickles and mustard paired well with the meat and the toast they plate it with to eat it. My husband and father in law both had some of the craft beers, while I opted for the strawberry sangria, which I enjoyed, but my husband declared "too sweet." For entrees, hubby & father in law both had the scallops. They were cooked perfectly, sweet, and fresh, but paired oddly with small dish of under seasoned potato puree. Mother in law had the soft shell crab, which she enjoyed, and I opted for the lamb shank, which was just short of divine because the chef has a very light hand with salt. Otherwise, the shank was incredibly tender and falling apart, and the broth itself had a good flavor but needed salt (as did the risotto under it). Overall, we all agreed that our food needed some salt, but we still enjoyed our meal. For dessert, mother in law and I each had one profiterole (described by the waitress as "pretty big," but actually pretty average sized and overpriced at $6) which was good, but nothing spectacular, although the chocolate sauce was pretty darn good. Hubby had the tres leches which he enjoyed, but I found the flavor of the alcohol in it a bit overwhelming. Overall, for 2 apps, 4 entrees, 3 cocktails, 4 coffees, 2 desserts, and about 3 beers, the check came to about $300 with tax and 15% tip.

Makes me so sad to write this update but here's the 411 -- beware the burgers! The $16 quinoa burger had the texture of filler. Not easy to do a vegetarian burger but this one does not pass the test.

The slab of fish on the $15 tuna burger was fine but just like the quinoa burger, it suffered from a charred bun that was dried out to a crisp. We were also highly disappointed by the sweet potato salad that came on the side -- nothing but a pile of overly soft diced chunks that were NOT held together with any kind of memorable seasoning.

When we complained to the waiter, he apologized and gave us our key lime pie order on the house. It was very good!

While the two burger fell far short of my usually great experiences here, the $13 frisee salad was as lovely as ever. And the $15 carpaccio was delish.

And of course, the service was also as terrific as ever.

Red Hat is a great spot especially for spring/summer. The building sits right on the Hudson River and with seating outside, inside and even a rooftop, it has the feel of an upscale NYC restaurant but with unmatched views of the river. The drink menu was excellent - I recommend the Bourbon & Peach Tea, and the food which was mostly seafood was also excellent! Try the mussels or the Salmon. The only thing that could have been improved was the service, which was a little off, but certainly not bad. In fact the manger or owner insisted upon bringing my father a new piece of fish as it was originally not cooked to his liking. I would absolutely go back and I'm looking forward to enjoying a drink on the roof deck!

Location and view is outstanding!  The food is very good and there is an excellent range of menu choices!   That's the good news.   The bad news is that the service is very poor.   It is as though the staff was simply not properly trained.  This is the level of service I would expect at Applebee's, not at a place charging almost $100/person all in.   It seems they can pack the place in spite of the service but we will not be back.

The atmosphere was great, the service great, the food great. BUT I am highly allergic to MSG and it was in the food because I had a reaction to it the next day. What a shame. I can't eat there again. MSG is not needed. What do restaurants feel a need to add it to food. Was the food not good enough that MSG is needed?

Went for a Friday night dinner, on the late side, and can't tell you how impressed my friend and I were with this place!  From the warm bread to the delicious food and attentive service.  The tuna tartare appetizer is as delicious as everyone says it is and  we both had the salmon entree which was perfection.  The fish was cooked to just the right temperature, and the sides--fresh spinach and a healthful grain dish were seasoned just right...so tasteful but not overly contrived.  Can't tell you when we've enjoyed a meal in Westchester this much.  And the key lime pie--soooo fresh and well-made.  Can't wait to go back, especially when the weather is not freezing, to experience the outdoor dining option they offer on the river and try some other menu choices.  Loved it!

I would have given it 5 stars but towards the end the service got a little slow (when waiting for our check). Otherwise, the location was perfect, food was excellent, bartender downstairs was really nice, and the ambiance of the place was very cool! It was romantic but had an edge. I went for my boyfriend's birthday and even though it was a snowy/rainy night we we still loved the view. Definitely a must visit!

As for food, I got the scallops (delish!) and he got the hanger (steak) and loved the chimichurri vinaigrette.  Like I said earlier, we said no to dessert since we were so full and expected our check but then nothing. The waitress came back and asked if we were doing ok so we had to ask for our check which we then realized we were charged for a class of wine ($12) that we didn't order. That was the only negative.

We can't wait to return in summer!!

Went for dinner on a Saturday night; ate at the bar (like the horseshoe shape, but not the resin the bar is made out of - they cheaped out), and was SO DISAPPOINTED, with the food. Here's why:

    - Crispy Peekytoe Crabcake: Tasty; Nice Presentation; NO CRAB to be found anywhere! They should call it "Crispy Peekytoe Cake", as the crab ran away before he could be cooked..
    - Frisee Aux Lardons Salad: What makes this type of salad is the usual omnipresence of Lardons; this version, I had to dig deep to find a total of 2 Lardons (they were microscopic), in the entree size!! Close to flavorless because of lack of Lardons.
    - Atlantic Swordfish Provencal: FLAVORLESS (another HUGE bummer!)
    - Apple Tarte Tatin - Love the Tatin, but the Tarte tasted like it was made for the shelves of a 7-11!! (yuk - sent it back)

New York (Manhattan) prices, for Westchester flavor (i.e. bland & blah), so NOT WORTH IT - Take the train in to NY, and get some real flavor, people!

Pros: Warm & Crusty bread + Very nice & personable (rare quality) bartender + Decent, albeit limited, selection of craft beers (they really should offer craft, especially local varieties, on draft) + Location (during the day + in the spring/summer)

Fantastic French wines by the glass, unique entrees and delectable desserts.  The restaurant is in a converted factory, covering two floors, right on the Hudson River and offers great river views through floor to ceiling windows.  Since I was there in the dead of winter, outside seating was not an option, but we were assured by the waiter that it is offered in the summer on the patio right along the river, and is a big hit.  He also said the bar area, which is spacious and attractive, is very popular for happy hour.

Fantastic spot for brunch.  In addition to the great views of the Hudson River, the service and food are first class.  They start guests with a warm roll and I had a nice bloody mary to kick things off.  A friend and I split omelets - one with goat cheese & chives and one with mushrooms.  Their choice of sides featured a sweet potato & cranberry salad that was terrific.  We finished the meal with a panna cotta dessert that was amazing.  Hope to get back up to Irvington soon to try this spot for lunch!

    3.75 on this one.

I had been wanting to try this riverside bistro for some time, so when my friend suggested we try out their Hudson Valley Restaurant Week price-fixed lunch, I jumped at the offer. I was definitely satisfied with the decision.

The location of Red Hat is worth a star or two in itself. The restaurant is situated right on the water, giving you a view of the Tappan Zee on one side and a glimpse of Manhattan in the distance from the other. The day that I went the sky was clear and blue, so we sat outside and enjoyed our meal on their patio. I was pleased to see that many of the items on their Restaurant Week offerings were also part of their main menu. I ended up with onion soup, which was perfect, and a salad that was kind of unremarkable. This point is proven by the fact that I can't remember what was in it now, but I think that avocados were involved. I DO remember the profiteroles I had for dessert, however, and they were excellent. My only real issue with the meal is that once we were finished, it took about a half an hour to track down out waitress and get the check. Since my friend and I had been enjoying a leisurely lunch, maybe our server wanted to give us some more time to chat. I almost ended up being late for work because of it, though.

I returned here recently for dinner and like the options then a lot more. I started with the yellowfin tuna tartar, which had just the right amount of spicy kick to it. This was followed by the grilled Scottish salmon, and I think I enjoyed the baby potatoes and haricot verts that came as a side as much as the fish itself. Dessert was "something chocolate", an intriguing and fitting title for their flourless cake. It was smooth, rich, and satisfied my sweet tooth. We also had the cheese plate, which had a great sampling of dairy, fruit, and nuts. Unfortunately we had the same check-getting problem this time around, and as it was a Friday night it seriously cut into my drinking time. Luckily they have a good wine selection at Red Hat, so I was able to get a head start while waiting for our server to turn up.

Overall, I'd suggest dinner here over lunch. Though the afternoon meal was good, it wasn't anything spectacular. The profiteroles were its saving grace.

I was here last night with a group of ten people. When dinner was over, the bus boy spilled a carafe of ketchup all over me. While trying to catch the carafe of ketchup, he spilled a carafe of mayonnaise all over me. No gesture was offered by management, and the waiter could have cared less, despite us spending a ton of money on that evening (and many others).

    Won't be back.

My customer @Pepsi recommended me to check out this place.  I was lucky that I went in on a Wed nite, that's when they had the little jazz band going on.  Food 4 stars, services is 4 and Jazz is 5.  Totally made up 5.  Go there on Wed/Thur, it's great experience.  A little off the main attraction to head down to the river front but well worth it especially if you like Jazz.

I'm sorry to report that I won't be able to give a very detailed review of Red Hat....I'm am too distracted by the amazing roof top bar with Manhattan skyline views. Oh and those cheesy straw things they put out. And I'm a lil' tipsy from the stiff drinks they mix.

Great Ambiance, good food, and stiff drinks, what else do you want? Oh, a view of the Manhattan Skyline? They've got that too!

I am very surprised that this place was so highly rated. The ambiance and the location sets up for what you think will be an excellent meal. Unfortunately, it fell incredibly flat (so disappointed!)

Great drink list, however the unimpressed/uninterested did not provide much information when I asked which wine she would recommend. The brown butter gnocchi was delicious. Upon having this for an appetizer, I thought the rest of the meal would be the same.

The waitress was not rude- but more snotty and arrogant. She only perked up once my husband and I ordered 2 appetizers and the 2 most expensive entree's on the list. However, I then asked her which side sauce she would recommend with the Claiborne steak. Rather than give me feedback, she condescendingly described the difference between a Red Wine Reduction, a Bearnaise and a Chimmichuri. Thanks for the education, lady.

I asked for the steak MR and it came out W. Rather than force myself to have another awkward interaction with our server, I stomached it (well, part of it). The most lackluster $41 I ever ate.

The table next to us accidentally knocked over their water glass and 2 bus boys walked right past it, multiple times. Worrying that someone would slip on it, we threw our napkins on top. Another server walked past. We then had to ASK the server to have someone clean it up.

All in all, if I'm going to drop a pretty penny on delicious food, I'll be heading somewhere else. I'd come back for a drink on the patio or rooftop, but getting the drink myself. No need to tip a server there who doesn't appreciate our business.

As close as I've come to a perfect meal.  Let's start with the view.  We arrived at 6:15, well before the sun had set, an so we could look out over the Hudson river from a perfect seat on the mezzanine level.  As the evening wore on, the lights came on across the river, creating a beautiful, very romantic dusky view.  And then finally, it was night, again, gorgeous.  The exposed brick, lamps, and paintings inside the restaurant gave it a Roaring 20's feel that was a great ambience for a fine French meal.

The food was spectacular.  I drank the "Royale" - a cocktail of champagne and elderflower that was light, a little on the sweeter side, but perfume-y.  Mmmmm.

    For appetizers:
-Goat cheese & beet napoleon: a delicious layering of goat cheese and beets with nuts - if you like beets, I'd recommend it.
-Tuna tartare: the best I've ever had, it was seasoned with avocado and Asian spices

    For dinner:
-Lamb Shank: the shank was huge and meaty.  It was very subtly seasoned and soft, tender and juicy.  The stew it came in was delicious as well.
-Salmon Burger: I take my salmon burgers seriously, and this passed the test.  You could actually taste the spices (Asian) despite the panko-crusting.  And the sweet potato salad on the side (with pecans and cranberries) were sweet and creative, a good balance for the savory burger.
-Brussel sprouts: tangy, and at once crisp and well cooked.

    Dessert:
Coconut Bread Pudding: the bread pudding itself was delicious, as the coconut and banana were well blended into the pudding.  The coconut sorbet was a healthy idea, but  a bit too choppy.  The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the mint, mango and passion fruit syrup the pudding was floating in.  I guess I was craving a creamy dessert and this was too fruity to hit the spot.  Still, delicious and well executed.

Finally - the service at this restaurant was incredible.  Tied everything together to make for a perfect meal (or as close as I've ever come to one). Now I'm just goint to have to eat salads for the next week :)

Delicious food, gorgeous view, great outdoor dining, very romantic -- perfect for a special occasion. What else could you want?

My boyfriend and I watched the sunset as we enjoyed a relaxing and delicious dinner. Our waitress was wonderful, gave the perfect amount of attention, and made helpful suggestions when we struggled to order -- everything on the menu looked so delicious, we could hardly decide! It all turned out absolutely divine.

Very easy to get to from Manhattan via Metro North -- and totally worth it.

    The view is stellar.

The service is top notch, warm and friendly.

The food is exceptional, we loved  the steak, even though this place is categorized as under "seafood." The short rib was also excellent. I was reluctant to order it because another Yelper claimed it was "boring as hell."

I'm sorry but I found it to be perfection.

Oh, and did I mention the view?

My husband and I had a great lunch here.  He had white veal sausages with frites from the Bistro part of the menu and I had the salad Nicoise from the brunch menu.  The sausage was fantastic. It was split in half and grilled and came with a wonderful, very sharp mustard.  It also came with a heap of well-done french fries.  My salad was topped with 4 huge, perfectly cooked (rare) tuna slices.  It has just a few potatoes on it (perfect) and was a perfectly composed salad.  The wines by the glass were very good as well.

The bartender served us and we didn't go without anything we wanted the entire time.  It was a beautiful day out and we walked the dogs around afterwards.  A perfect lunch!

Now known as The Red Hat on the River, this French-themed restaurant is located on the Hudson River (moved from the original Dobbs Ferry location a few years ago to this industrial waterfront space, old space is now occupied by Mima's).

For the outdoor view, this place alone is worth the trip! Our lunch was nice, but slightly on the pricier side. We skipped appetizers, and just had our entrees: a leek and cheddar omelette du jour for my friend, and the vegetarian eggplant caponata sandwich on rosemary foccaccia for me... this sandwich will certainly bring me back for a second time!

Served with a summer corn salad, the caponatina was a perfect balance of "agrodolce" otherwise known as "sweet and sour". Caponata, is a Sicilian-staple, marrying eggplant, with tomatoes, capers, olives, raisins, pignoli nuts, etc. but their version contained the first four ingredients. Sliced fontina cheese completes this sandwich. The caponata is chilled, but the warm grilled bread soaks up the flavorings without getting soggy.

The omelette was lacking in taste, in color, in ingredients. They needed to add something to it: spinach, crabmeat, or shrimp would have been nice additions. I suggested ketchup to my friend, who feigned a look of "Ketchup on eggs? YOU???". Haha, well, if it's the ketchup freshly-made from New Jersey tomatoes only sold in Whole Foods through September for $5.99, then sure, why not :)

We opted out of dessert due to time constraints, but some round ball covered in chocolate sauce looked pretty damn good. The bill, along with an iced tea and wine, rounded out to about $55 with tip. But it's got a great vibe, I hear live music is there on certain nights, and the place gets crowded for brunch. For Westchester, it's a nice treat.

Came back here after a year and a half of dreaming about my very first and only meal at the Red Hat. It was totally worth the wait.

    APPETIZER:
WARM YUKON POTATO & GOAT CHEESE CAKE - The potato melted in my mouth. The dish looked super pretty too!

    ENTREE:
GRILLED SCOTTISH SALMON - Oh my. The roasted fingerling potatoes were awesome...and my salmon was cooked PERFECTLY and went so well with the mustard-herb-shallot vinaigrette. I have no complaints.

CLASSIC GRILLED HANGAR STEAK FRITES - I am drooling thinking about this dish. The hangar steak was flawless. With the bearnaise sauce it was an explosion in my mouth. They also give you a lot of fries, which were crispy and just delicious.

    DESSERT:
APPLE TARTE TATIN - I'm still confused about exactly how they make it, but it was really tasty. Combined with vanilla bean ice cream, it was the perfect ending to my perfect meal.

FLOURLESS VALRHONA BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE CAKE - Holy shitballs. This chocolate cake is absolutely, insanely delicious. If heaven existed, this would be it.

So I' d been to Red Hat twice before during lunch and enjoyed the food and atmosphere for lunch.  I decided to take my wife for dinner on her birthday and had a very lackluster experience.

Now don't get me wrong the food was quite good.  I had scallops and my wife had the duck.  Both were good, but not great.  The cheese plate at the end was poorly presented with big huge hunks of cheese and no knife to cut it.

What really set Red hat apart was the service from the hostess station to the wait staff.  The restaurant was empty, bu t they seated us at a table in the middle of the restaurant without a good view of the river just outside.

I hope the waitress was new because she didn't know a thing about the menu and didn't bring us a wine list until I asked her twice.  Then I had to order the wine by number because she didn't know the wine by name.  I also questioned whether she brought the right wine (a Rhone style Bourdeaux in which the bottle threw me) further flustering our intrepid waitress.

Upon review, Red Hat is fine if you live along the Hudson, but given the abundance of restaurants along the L.I. sound, I won't be going back any time soon.  No second chance for you.

Wow..what a gorgeous place.  Fantastic view of the Hudson River and Tappan Zee Bridge.  Relaxing atmosphere.

We sat upstairs and had a nice view of the sun setting last Saturday.  There was a half hour + wait for an outside table so we just kept our reservation which applied to the indoor portion of the restaurant.  They have a great rooftop bar/lounge too!

My wife began with a pear martini.  She loved it.  It looked very refreshing.  I had the Red Hat margarita.  So so.

She began with the Crispy Goat Cheese Beignet.  It was a salad with:
Coach Farm goat cheese, roasted beets, smoked applewood bacon,
greens, shallot-caraway vinaigrette.  She loved it!!!

I began with the House-Made Rillettes...the classic french duck and heirloom pork confit, sliced & served with pickled red onions, green peppercorn mustard, and cornichon.  Very enjoyable.   I really wanted the Risee Aux Lardons Salad described as a classic "bacon, egg & toast" salad, applewood bacon lardons, brioche toast, soft poached egg, and warm bacon-mustard vinaigrette but the waitress said it was a bit too large for an appetizer.

Her main course was The Claiborne Steak, an all natural, grass-fed12 oz new york shell, cabernet-veal jus reduction, roasted yukon potato hash, and mascarpone-parmesan creamed spinach.  She usually isn't a big fan of spinach but enjoyed this rendition very much.  It is described on the menu as creamed spinach but certainly did not appear to be creamy at all.

My main was the Grilled Double Cut Berkshire Pork Chop.  They use Snake River Farm heirloom pork  and  it came with Wild Hive Mills organic corn polenta, sugar snap peas, caper-currant compote, and a pommery mustard jus vinaigrette.  The pork chop itself was a bit chewy and dry.  The vinaigrette was essential.

For dessert we ordered two different items with the intent of bringing home leftovers.  The first was Coconut Milk Brioche Bread Pudding
with cashew praline, and mango sorbet.  The only part I tasted was the sorbet and it was fabulous.  We took most of the bread pudding home.  I really don't recall seeing the cashew praline but will check with wife.

Second dessert was the cheese plate...described on the menu as...

    Pierre Robert Triple Creme
    cow's milk (ile-de-France, France)
    buttery, rich & tangy

    Bayley Hazen Blue
Jasper Hill Farm, raw cow's milk (Vermont)
    silky & lightly sweet

    Pecorino Stagionato Latte Crudo
    raw sheeps milk (Italy)
    savory & pungent

Very generous slices accompanied by two types of bread, a cherry compote and an abundance of seedless red and green grapes.  We took 50% of the cheese home.  Overall a great plate!

    Service was very good.

I love almost everything about this place. Great food, great location, great decor, fantastic service. The owner really seems engaged with the place and it shows.

It's located in the loft spaces right on the Hudson river and I highly recommend getting there early during the summer for a drink on the rooftop. Hastings on Hudson who?

Inside, they didn't miss a trick. Feels like you stepped right into a Paris Bistro. Granted, it's probably 3 times the size of most of the bistros I've seen in France, but you get my point.

Now for the food. The Moules Frites alone is worth a visit. One bite and you'll feel like you're in Cannes- just fantastic. I also love their salmon burger for lunch, although their regular burger isn't too shabby either.

Now for the bad news. They don't have high chairs, which is a bit odd in such a family oriented town. Also, the menu can be a little hit or miss, but since I always get the mussels, I've never disappointed.

I don't think I have ever doled out 5 stars but this place is completely worthy of it.

My boyfriend and I decided to go on an adventure Saturday night.  Though I did find this incredibly restaurant on Yelp, the reviews were relatively dated but I figured, what the heck.  Boy was I pleasantly surprised.

We walked in without reservations around 8 p.m. and were told there would be a 30-40 minute wait at which point we settled in at the bar and had a delish dirty martini made my Janna (I'm sure I'm spelling her name incorrectly).  Something I had never seen before; instead of peanuts on the bar, there was an arrangement of hard boiled eggs along with a salt shaker (complimentary) as well as some light, fluffy and cheesy bread sticks.

I snagged a seat and shortly after, whom I believe was the manager, was kind enough to bring a bar stool over to my boyfriend (which I thought was very kind; certainly not the attention I see in NYC or Hoboken).  We decided to settle in and eat our meal at the bar which seemed less noisy than the dining room.

We shared the goat cheese beignet which was out of this world.  We continued on with a gnocchi dish with asparagus and a light cream sauce along with an appetizer size portion of their version of penne a la vodka...both just so damn tasty.  The bread is also not something to pass up (especially when sopping up the rest of those great sauces!).

Prices were a bit more than I would expect in a seemingly sleepy town such as Irvington, but I'll gladly pay $14 for an excellent dirty martini that does NOT need to be sent back.  3 appetizers, a martini and a glass of wine came to $73 but we did not have to pay for parking and it was not a fancy or pretentious restaurant.

The ambiance was so pretty (a tad noisy but the views could not be beat), staff so courteous and accommodating and of course the food was out of this world.  We will be back very soon, hopefully on a warmer day when we can take advantage of outdoor or rooftop seating.

I always enjoy going to this restaurant.  The food is very well done and presented.  The waitstaff could be more up to speed, but they're mostly ok.

The outdoor seating is really what makes this a fun place, especially when the sun is setting in the summer and fall.

In the winter I usually have a pot-au-feu which I really like.  There's also a mussel dish that is light.  Their summer fare is of course better.

The place is wonderfully decorated and the view of the Hudson River is great.  The owner is always around and is very friendly.

We loved it on Main street and we love it by the water.

Sit upstairs where it is quieter and the view is killer!

I have never had anything on this menu that wasn't great. The owner is always around and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

They have updated their menu to add some new items since they moved to the water and they expanded their lunch options which was great for all of us who work at bridge street buildings.

I'm sure this will be the first place we go out to eat once we return to the east coast!

Oh and they have patio seating both downstairs and they will open an upstairs outdoor patio this summer which looks great!

Beautiful setting on the water. I came here in the winter so I was not able to sit outside, but the new location has great outdoor seating on the Hudson River. The new location is actually in an old boiler room, but you can't tell from the work they've done - it looks great. There are two floors of dining: the top floor is more private, and the bottom floor is larger and is next to the giant windows overlooking the river.

The food is great and makes for a lovely upscale dinner out. Vegetarian options are a pasta or a salad (or you could probably ask them to make a vegetable dish for you). The pasta was quite large and was more than I could eat in a sitting. Dessert was a tasty homemade sorbet.

We hopped aboard a Metro-North Hudson Line train from Grand Central to meet my favorite Washingtonian's brother and his wife for lunch. The ride itself was gorgeous, and so was the view from the Red Hat. We sat upstairs and ordered a round of bloody marys for the table.

The soup on offer the day we went was carrot and it did not disappoint.

    Standouts on the menu include:
GOAT CHEESE & WARM YUKON POTATO CAKE
    SPICY YELLOWFIN TUNA TARTARE

Our waitress provided us with attentive service throughout the meal and had an affinity for calling the men at our table "dear". Thanks to her recommendation, I ordered the potato cake which was as good as she said it would be.

For maximum enjoyment, sit upstairs and enjoy a view of the Hudson while you eat.

Irvington is a really charming little town in Westchester, just south of Tarrytown.  The "downtown" is really just one street, and this place has the best breakfast there, or so I am told.

I checked it out recently with a friend, and we found the Bistro well worth the trip.

First of all, the restaurant is very nicely appointed - they did a good job restoring it and making it look like somewhere you would want to spend a bit of time.

It's not a big place, so if you want to have dinner, I would recommend reservations.  However, I was there for breakfast...

There is a small bar there, for dinner, and after dinner, and I guess you could wait there for a table if you did not have reservations.

As I said, we went for breakfast, and it was great.  I found their coffee to be extraordinarily good, for a restaurant.  I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I enjoy a good cup now and then, and this stuff was tasty.

My meal was very good, and filling - I could not eat all that I got.  Prices were reasonable, and the service excellent.

If in town, or nearby, I recommend stopping by this little place, and having a meal.  I will try and head back for dinner sometime, so that I can give it a full review.

Edit:  Went back in November 2007 for a dinner - found the location had moved to the waterfront...in a new larger well decorated (just remodeled) location.  Food was great.  Wine was great.
