This is always a difficult decision. What do you rate a place when the service is Terrible and the food was good. I wish yelp had different choices, they don't so I'll be kind and give a 3. Realistically the service was a -1 (yes, less than 0) and the food was a four. When the waiter stinks, I blame the waiter, when the busboy stinks, I blame the busboy, in this case even the manager was a disaster. Not only couldn't I get water refilled, bread etc... I couldn't place the order because the waiter was BS ing with another table of friends. Even when I finally got the check (after having to walk over to manager to ask for check) I waited 10 minutes to get my credit card back.
Now the food... It saddens me because the food was very good. Everything I had I enjoyed. If the service was good, I'd be there 2-4 times a month. I'm a local and that's a shame. I hope the owners read this and get the staff back to service boot camp.
I didn't realize how big this restaurant was! Â It's huge for this little strip mall. It was also a weird mix of waiters in tuxedos and clientele in jeans and sneakers. Â On one side of us was a huge family with rowdy kids and on the other was an overdressed couple on a romantic date. Â
Once I got past the ambiance, the food was tasty but not all that exciting or memorable. Â I don't think it's worth the high prices given how much exquisite Italian food is available in the city. Â That being said, they had a mushroom parpadelle that they prepare table side in a huge wheel of parmigianna that was fabulous. Â Other entrees were maybe slightly better than average and dessert was mediocre. Â I probably won't be back. Â Dinner for 2 (1 glass of wine, 1 beer, 1 dessert, 2 entrees) was just under $100, with entrees between $18-$40.
La Catena in Ardsley is a horrible in my book.  Four of us went 3 weeks ago on a Saturday night.  We had the hot antipasto which was a plate of hot bread crumbs, the fried calamari was the frozen kind with no tentacles, the cold antipasto stated that it included parmesan cheese.  We called the waiter over to say that there was no cheese in the antipasto.  The waiter in turn called the owner over who took my sister's knife out of her hand and RUMAGED THROUGH HER PLATE  to point out that there was indeed a piece of cheese the size of a dime.  How DARE he touch her plate and utensils!!!!! That should have been our cue to leave.  The pasta entre with shrimp and scallops was COLD, the tomato sauce on the chicken parmigiana was so thick and bitter it could be used to apply wallpaper and the other 2 entrees are NOT even worth mentioning.. We all had cocktails, a bottle of wine, 4 appetizers and 4 entrees so to not even offer  a piece of cheese  is very unbusiness like.  Good luck La Catena there are too many other restaurants out there with both good food and service.
