This is always a difficult decision. What do you rate a place when the service is Terrible and the food was good. I wish yelp had different choices, they don't so I'll be kind and give a 3. Realistically the service was a -1 (yes, less than 0) and the food was a four. When the waiter stinks, I blame the waiter, when the busboy stinks, I blame the busboy, in this case even the manager was a disaster. Not only couldn't I get water refilled, bread etc... I couldn't place the order because the waiter was BS ing with another table of friends. Even when I finally got the check (after having to walk over to manager to ask for check) I waited 10 minutes to get my credit card back.
Now the food... It saddens me because the food was very good. Everything I had I enjoyed. If the service was good, I'd be there 2-4 times a month. I'm a local and that's a shame. I hope the owners read this and get the staff back to service boot camp.
I didn't realize how big this restaurant was! Â It's huge for this little strip mall. It was also a weird mix of waiters in tuxedos and clientele in jeans and sneakers. Â On one side of us was a huge family with rowdy kids and on the other was an overdressed couple on a romantic date. Â
Once I got past the ambiance, the food was tasty but not all that exciting or memorable. Â I don't think it's worth the high prices given how much exquisite Italian food is available in the city. Â That being said, they had a mushroom parpadelle that they prepare table side in a huge wheel of parmigianna that was fabulous. Â Other entrees were maybe slightly better than average and dessert was mediocre. Â I probably won't be back. Â Dinner for 2 (1 glass of wine, 1 beer, 1 dessert, 2 entrees) was just under $100, with entrees between $18-$40.
La Catena in Ardsley is a horrible in my book.  Four of us went 3 weeks ago on a Saturday night.  We had the hot antipasto which was a plate of hot bread crumbs, the fried calamari was the frozen kind with no tentacles, the cold antipasto stated that it included parmesan cheese.  We called the waiter over to say that there was no cheese in the antipasto.  The waiter in turn called the owner over who took my sister's knife out of her hand and RUMAGED THROUGH HER PLATE  to point out that there was indeed a piece of cheese the size of a dime.  How DARE he touch her plate and utensils!!!!! That should have been our cue to leave.  The pasta entre with shrimp and scallops was COLD, the tomato sauce on the chicken parmigiana was so thick and bitter it could be used to apply wallpaper and the other 2 entrees are NOT even worth mentioning.. We all had cocktails, a bottle of wine, 4 appetizers and 4 entrees so to not even offer  a piece of cheese  is very unbusiness like.  Good luck La Catena there are too many other restaurants out there with both good food and service.
Review Source:Bread and soup are very good. The main courses are less than distinguished. Had chicken marsala and some pieces of fat were in the chicken. Wait staff is interested in selling "upgrades" near beginning of meal ... then service diminishes - water glasses not refilled quickly, getting check and paying not all that easy. Used to be better. Food is less than inspired.
Review Source:LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. The food here is absolutely delicious. I have yet to have a bad meal here. The owner, Emilio, greets you at the door and is super friendly. The atmosphere here is relaxing and guests are pampered with exceptional service and delicious cuisine! La Catena's wait staff is exceptional as well, very attentive and accommodating!! Â When I walk in there, they make me feel like I'm part of the family!!!
And if you are a sport fan, well they have a HUGE screen TV at the bar area. So, feel free to get up from your table, walk over to the bar area, and do a "WOOHOO" if your team is winning. THEY WELCOME IT!!!!! They will even change the channel for you if you ask!!
Surprisingly pleased.
We loved the Spinach Fettuccine, which was finished right by the table in a huge bowl of cheese. It's worth a try. We decided to share everything so that we would have enough room to eat the handmade desert. The ricotta cheesecake was tremendous. Wonderful experience. The service was great too! Def go back there!
Have had three very pleasant dining experiences. Â Large, dark-ish interior (which I like), well-furnished, roomy. Â Many waiters and servers, polite and very (very!) attentive. Â Food is good to very good--had a fabulous halibut, delicious veal. Â Provides good value for tasty and edge-of-elegant neighborhood dining.
Review Source:This restaurant is a pleasant surprise. Â Located in a mall, the interior is warm, elegant, and expansive. Â We were greeted enthusiastically by the owner/host and this set the tone for the excellent service through out the meal. Â The food was delicious and plentiful. Â Unfortunately we were too full to try the home made desserts. Â I was surprised to find that I am the first to review this restaurant - hope to return soon.
